GameStop Ad 12/26-12/29: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/weeklyad/current/122612/pdf/olfsi_122612.pdf

6 pages of meh, but some highlights from the last 2 pages:

 • B2G1 on any Pre-owned Wii or DS games p.7
 • Double In-Store Credit when you trade any system p.8
 • 50% Extra In-Store Credit for every game you trade p.8

I know this is usually litepink's thing (props), but I'm not about type out the whole ad when the .pdf is readily available. I wikified the thread if litepink or others would like to add other items of special interest.
I had a PS2 with a non Sony wired controller, bought from Gamestop ironically, that the guy tried to refuse. First he gives me shit about the controller even though I called and was told it was okay for full trade %. He goes, what if some kid buys it and Kingdom Hearts ( apparently the controller didn't have one of the push features? ) I call his bluff and he goes about testing it with one game, works perfectly. Then he takes another disk from next to the register and puts it in and gets a "magical dual shock error code" which in all my years gaming I have never seen. Rings it up and takes 10 off for a refurb fee, I call his bullshit out, that I watched him play simpsons hit and run and it ran fine and demanded to see the other disc he put in. He mumbles it was just a psone game. I told him I knew what he was doing and it was kind of shitty to advertise a bonus and try and knock it down with a refurb fee ( this gamestop is famous for refurb fees on anything you bring in, game missing a manual -.10 off refurb fee etc ) When I call out the fact the psone game is so scratched to hell its lucky to even play and as a "playstation specialist" he should know that ( it was on his shirt lol) he relents and knocks off the refurb fee.

Lesson of the day : be firm with these gamestop derps and you'll win the day.
I wouldn't accept your knock off controller either. He could have simply told you that instead of being a douche about it though.
Did my trade, but not before falling victim to Gamestop Logic. I brought the PS3, controller with USB, power cord and HDMI cable. I tell him up front it doesn't play games and I'm fine with the refurb fee. Then I'm told because I didn't bring the ORIGINAL AV cable that came with the PS3 they can't take it. I am like...what the fuck. I tossed that crap away on day one and have been using HDMI from the beginning. I am offering them a BETTER CABLE than the outdated junk that was packaged with the PS3. Then he adds that I can buy a cable from the store and trade it in with the system. The cable costs $17.99 plus tax.
Of course I've left it until the last day of the trade promo to do this, and its 8.45 pm. No time to order a $1 cable from amazon or what have you. We work out that with the purchase of the cable, I'll be walking away with $95.71. It's a 40GB PS3 that doesn't read discs. So I think about it while he's serving other people, I even checked ebay on my phone to see what a non working system will get (about $40 to $60, it seems). So I did the trade. Eesh. A strangely ironic consolation when I get home is that, as well as the HDMI cable, I still have the controller charging cable. They weren't concerned about getting that, apparently!
those cables are standard and packaged with every ps3, gamestop didnt do anything wrong. logic or not
Not everyone has a TV that uses composite.
What TV other than the cheap Sony 3D one doesn't have composite?

It's not about "wrong", its about being in that grey area of customer service where they have the right to either help or hinder the customer, and Gamestop's default option is almost always the latter. I gave them everything needed to hook up a PS3; they no doubt have dozens of 99 cent cables laying around the warehouse where the PS3 will be sent to be fixed. It would have made more sense for them to just take the HDMI, as I wasn't asking or expecting to get the $4.40 separate trade credit for it - they sell those used in store for 17.99.
Still, I'm coming off as bitter when I'm not really that bothered in the grand scheme of things. I couldn't have gotten $95 for a broken system anywhere else.

Deal is over now - time for the graveyard.

Almost all of mine don't have composite. I only have one that does.
