It is a little obnoxious, but it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Maybe you've got all these additions to the game, but one thing really stands out. Manufacturing little bonuses only costs money, so an easy fix to give fans "a little something extra" is to claim that they're getting something unlockable.

Is ordering at Gamestop justified? Not for the internet-savvy. Likely even before release, you'll be able to find out the unlock code from the internet, as it's highly unlikely each game would have its own code.
Not every single unlockable code is generic. Some of the pre-order bonuses, like Fable 2 Pub Games, the Too Human armor sets, they were DL codes with the standard MS 25-digit download format. Those were all unique.

The Mercenaries 2 costumes and the Army of Two weapon pre-orders, they use the content downloader inside of the game, and those codes weren't 25-digit MS-style format. They could be unique or they could be generic.
When I picked up Mercs 2, I started chatting with the employee about Silent Hill: Homecoming and he told me you get a copy of the movie as a preorder bonus. I checked the site and it didn't mention it, but figured I'd post that info here just in case.
It's on the website now, maybe someone should update the OP. I would usually do In-Store Pickup but that says while supplies last and Store customers it says at the time of reservation. Has anyone reserved this in-store and received the movie right then and there?

"Reserve Silent Hill Homecoming and receive a free Silent Hill DVD movie.

Online Customers: DVD will ship with the game.

In-Store Pickup Customers – DVD will be available at designated store. While supplies last.

Store Customers – DVD will be available at time of reservation."

They've also got preorder bonuses for a few new games, including an art cell for Castlevania Judgment and a two song CD for Chrono Trigger (which makes it sound the same as the japanese preorder bonus). They've also updated the pages for Red Alert 3 for PC so you also get a free copy of Red Alert 2, a multiplayer map with a GameStop in it, and a Red Alert 3 bonus DVD.

I did not see this in the OP, so ill mention it. If you preorder Silent Hill Homecoming, you get the Silent Hill Movie for 9.99, yes it sucks. Although, when i came to pick up LEGO Batman and asked about a preorder bonus for silent hill, he just gave it to me. He later realized that he was supposed to scan it and the price would pop up. He let me keep it though because it was his mistake. So overall pretty good to me.

EDIT:

Nevermind this was mentioned.

Actually I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be free, if they start to try to charge you extra for preorder bonuses I'd tell them to get bent.

Geez. I update one game, then three hours later, five more have suddenly gone live.

Anyway, nice nice collection of bonuses. Added bonuses for Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party, Castlevania: Judgement, FIFA 2009, Chrono Trigger.

OMG, Chrono Trigger comes with a music CD? I though that was Japan only. I guess I might actually preorder from Gamestop this time. That Castlevania bonus is awesome, too.

got my lego batman keychain :) i got the joker.

what do we think about the email that gamestop sent out re: getting another book with the online pre-order of fallout 3? i'm torn between that and the amazon version..the amazon verson is making you pay for the clock...and 30$ more seems rediculous i think..
Yeah, I said this outloud along with this face. :whistle2:s
must be 2 major songs. that Union psp game just came out had 52 tracks (must been hell of short )
Yeah, I said this outloud along with this face. :whistle2:s
I was so excited when I saw the title was updated with Chrono Trigger. (BTW, thanks for the listing, OP.) Then I saw "CD with 2 tracks." The medley track is supposed to include A Premonition, Guardia Kingdom Millenial Fair, A Wind’s Yearning, Frog’s Theme, Warlock Battle, Epilogue ~To Close Friends~, & To The Outskirts of Time. So I guessing it's a pretty long track maybe...?

But still, if you want to make something enticing, perhaps listing it as a "2 track CD" isn't the way to go. Woudn't it have been more appealing to break the track up but provide for seemless transitions to make it sound like one big track?

I think I'm going to try and hold out for a $10 GC offer from CC on it. It's released the week of Thanksgiving/Black Friday, so who knows what stores will offer.

But the Valkyria Chronicles artbook, not THAT'S enticing.

That Moon bonus slip cover is pretty nice. Not fancy or special or anything like that, but I wouldn't mind having more DS games with slip covers. Watching the trailer, it looked very Metroid like with vehicles. Looks like a hand cramp FPS.

I was hoping to pick up Chrono Trigger later for cheap, but with that "2 track" CD, I just might need to budget some more cash for video games.

Somebody needs to mail me one of these. Or Batman. I'm good with either. :bouncy:

No. Opinion based on looking at the pic. Sorry to alarm you.

New bonus item, on top of the CD and poster, for Fallout 3: a Vault Dwellers' Guide. It's for online orders only. This game is bonus-happy.
Motherfucker! I don't want to purchase like 5 copies of this game to get all of the bonuses, but this is one sweet PAX shwag item. MUST HAVE...

Seriously. It's like all the retailers are trying to one up each other on the preoder bonuses now. I don't think I've ever seen an exclusive online preorder bonuses on top of preorder bonuses. How many promos can you have for one game?? Has anyone seen or heard about this new item before?

It was given away at PAX.

The extra Fallout 3 bonus might push me over the edge to order from GameStop instead of Circuit City (free $10 gift card).

Ah. Are there any pictures or details online other than what Gamestop listed?

Any chance that the Chrono Trigger preorder bonus CD will show up at Amazon too?

ETA: Don't know if this coupon is common knowledge, but you can use EBAFFDS to get 10% off a DS/PSP/PS2 game at ebgames.com. That takes some of the sting out of the price difference from Amazon.

Might pre-order Chrono Trigger DS, but I'm also waiting to hear any limited edition Chrono Trigger bundle DS lite since it is being released close to Black Friday.
Came in expecting an Order of Ecclesia bonus :(

I guess a cool bonus is the only way anyone will buy that crappy Wii game
Giving Konami's history of offering bonuses with their Castlevania games, I'm sure an Ecclesia bonus is right around the corner.

Since you've changed the page to remove the "Expired Items" section, I'm guessing you'll be removing expired items that are likely no longer applicable?

Izuna 2 shows a release date of 07/22/08, though is still listed under the DS section. That was one I noticed on quick glance, though there may be more.

I didn't want to make any changes to the OP without bringing this point up to you.

The website says the laser cell for Castlevania: Judgment is available at the time of reservation. Isn't it a department from their normal "available when you pick up the game", which is designed to discourage people from preordering for the bonus and not picking up the game?

Thanks for the code! Unfortunate it can't be combined with SAVER.

Is that Far Cry 2 pre-order bonus upgrade to CE online only, or in store? I have it paid off in store..
Thanks for the code! Unfortunate it can't be combined with SAVER.
I didn't even need to use SAVER; the value shipping option came up as free automatically. There was even a banner at the top of the page that said "Free shipping for orders over $25." I guess they are matching Amazon's free shipping policy now.

AFAIK only EB is doing the free shipping over $25 promo. That makes me wonder if I should reorder Yggdra Union for the $4 savings and return it with my GS online receipt when it arrives. Decision, decision ;)

Yeah, I'm kind of wishing I had used this coupon for my Yggdra preorder instead (if it even existed last month; I found it googling today and that was the first I'd heard of it). I'm half expecting that Amazon will end up offering the same bonus for Chrono Trigger, and if I end up switching the CT order to Amazon I don't know what else I could use this coupon for.

I try to keep as up to date as possible, but the only time I remove a preorder bonus is if the Gamestop.com website no longer shows it available. In the case of Izuna 2, the bonus still shows up online. At the beginning of this thread, I let folks know games that have release dates that have already passed may not have bonuses available in-store.

So since Pure is already released though the pre-order bonus still shows on the GS site, am I still able to pre-order for the gift?

they just had a stack behind the counter. my store only got a sack full of jokers, so you just need to find a store that has batman, frosty.

Yeah. I'm so tempted to place an order for it and then return the first copy to the store. A total $4 saving - as good a deal as Amazon's one even after it's gold boxed. I haven't opened it yet since I just received it in the weekend.

Maybe I should just do it to screw GS since they screwed my preorder bonus last time (Ninja Gaiden stylus).

If you preorder from EB.com or GS.com and use giftcard/store credit as payment, is the money taken out of your card immediately? What if you want to cancel it before it ships, will the money go right back to the same card automatically?
If you preorder from EB.com or GS.com and use giftcard/store credit as payment, is the money taken out of your card immediately?
Nope.

Added bonuses for Fracture, NBA Live 2009, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, and Petz Monekeyz. ... I expect you all to place your online orders for Monkeyz. NOW.

How dare you mock Monkeyz?!
Nope.
So, the purchase would be responsible for making sure there is enough credits on the card around the time when the preorder ships? Otherwise, I would imagine the order would automatically be canceled due to insufficient fund. Right?
