Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

@BingoBrown I updated my old post. I was able to get them to cancel my preorder, however everyone else I know on forums were not able to(they prolly didnt try as hard) . Basically I just told them that I am going to close my credit card before the game ships anyways, because I don't need the card anymore anyways, and that this policy was INSANE and intentionally hidden, not clearly displayed during the preorder and checkout process. I also told them I thought the beta/demos was a way to encourage people to preorder a game, test it out, and decide if you like it, so then they can buy it if they enjoyed it. Cuz honestly, that's how it was when I grew up. I also told them I learned my lesson, and that I am ignorant for not scouting the website for these obscure policies, and assuming that the online store was identical to the walk in store.

They replied with some stock copy/paste email that made zero sense. It even mentioned Barnes and Noble refunds in it...
Basically, they closed the status of my order, and canceled it. Feels good to win.

unfortunately Gamestop.com is different than the store.
There was no $5 pre-order fee, and their policy (which was hidden and not under my order info and checkout process) states that if you receive a promotion from a preorder, you have to buy the game and there is no cancel button anymore. Since you ordered the game with a credit/debit card, this info is saved, so they can charge it once the game ships. It's literally like your card is being held hostage...
If you preorder it in the store, you can cancel regardless of promotions handed out.
Gamestop even gave me THREE Eternal Sonata faceplates as a preorder bonus, and later I canceled the preorder, and they didnt care.
 
CTL is alright, played more tonight, but still would rather have guardian. My only problems with CTL is that the meatflags are really weak. One shot from a shotgun and its over. Also it shouldnt down you. I dont think a smoke downs you, not 100% sure on that. But one shot from a shotty and you drop the meatshield and are downed. You shouldnt be that vulnerable while having the meatshield. It almost makes me not want to pick up the leader. one of my biggest complaints in gears 2 was the meatshields were too strong. But that was only because i couldnt break it up with a smoke. It doesnt help that the pistol you start out with is almost useless. It takes 2-3 rounds to down someone. People can rush you too fast with that exchange rate.
 
Held my own as the Leader on Old Town yesterday, used the little pillar area where the Longshot/Torque Bow spawns as my cover zone and killed 7 enemies alone like a badass while we were holding their leader. Mmm yeah.

For serious, though, I'm terrible at Gears Of War 3. That was one shining moment out of 500 failures. I think I have to take your Retro Lancer advance, McNutSack, and start using that. Like a pro, I'm rocking something like 9 wins 27 losses when playing with 1 buddy. Last time I checked I had something like 213 kills and 214 deaths, so at least I'm almost even.

I have my moments, but I either need to practice more or give up trying. I'm a Gears fan, but not a huge one. Not sure if I'll pick the game up. I want to have Thrashball Cole and the Golden Retro regardless, just in case.
 
I think it is sad that you don't get points for holding the leader in CTL. I can hold him for 29 seconds and than get rushed and downed, some else picks up the leader and gets the points and credit and I get nothing. Seems wrong to me. Even if you don't hold him the whole 30 seconds you should be rewarded for trying to complete the objective and not just running around killing people.

For Cole Train, you need to play in 50 matches to unlock him. You then need to play as him in 10 matches to unlock him for play in Gears 3 retail.

For gold retro lancer, you need to play 90 matches to unlock. You then need 100 kills with the gold retro lancer to unlock it for Gears 3 retail.

I've got them both unlocked and it feels good!! :)

Thrashball Cole .. play 50 matches to unlock in beta then play 10 matches with that skin to unlock retail.

Gold Retro - play 90 matches in beta to unlock in beta and then get 100 kills with that skin to unlock in retail.
 
CTL on Trench just sucks. As the leader, you can't really pick a camping spot, specially on the spawn where it makes more sense, because sooner or later, the other team will spawn right next to you.
 
What I hate about CTL is trying to escape when you are being captured. Whenever I get released via smoke nades, the enemy recovers from the smoke faster than I can get on my feet. So he just gnashers me while I try to stand up. I should at least be invulnerable until I get on my feet, just so I can have some sort of chance to do something.

Yeah that gets annoying. I was playing a match today where our leader wasnt even moving. I jumped into a game already in progress, and shot our leader out from being captured and he just stands there slowing walking forward. I wish there was a way to report these guys. I heard if epic catches people AFK or doing the rubberband trick they will strip those users of all beta special unlocks. But since im banned from epic forums, i dont think i can report them.

I'd hate to say this cuz it's cliche, but you're definitely using it poorly, and maybe just need more time to figure it out. It's a close - midrange weapon, and using it from a distance is just wasting your time. I seriously use this lancer against shotgun battles, cuz for me it's more effective and faster than a gnasher. It's amazing how many people rush at you from 50 feet away, in the open, behind no cover, thinking they can get up to your face and pop your head off...Seriously, these people need to equip a rifle and play less retarded. Me and my friends have only lost 1 match.

My k/d is 9.0 and my win/loss is 14.0. I use retro lancer and sawed off shotgun.
Sawed off is only my last resort if I am out of retro lancer ammo or dont have time to reload, and it's a good gun to use if an enemy is sneaking behind cover, slowly getting too close to you. However if 2 - 5 enemies rush at you, you're only gonna kill 1 - 2 before you die. If you had a gnasher, you could potentially kill all of them. But this is a small price to pay, and they can only rush you like this if you're hiding in some obscure isolated corner with no escape route...

Man, I really love this game. If history repeats itself, me and my friends are going to be nearly unbeatable...cuz no one is willing to put their shotgun down, and therefor cannot compete against a good team like us, who use mainly rifles and focus fire on enemies from a distance.[/QUOTE]

Read through this and gave it another try. Holy crap. MVP on my first try using it in KOTH. I guess my problem was that I was treating it like the regular lancer, and the Retro needs to be treated sorta like a shotgun. Only for close-range and just fire from the hip. Only ADS when they're a little bit far off, but still pretty close. I think I may start using this from now on :D
 
They also need to fix weapon pick ups. I am so tired of downing/killing a guy, than trying to revive a team, execute an enemy, pick up the enemy leader etc and wind up drop, picking weapons. I wish I could bind it the d pad or something
 
weapon pick up needs to be faster imo. takes way too long to get it in your hand. so many times ive been downed cheaply mainly because of the circle to go all the way around
 
Man tonight has been 3 bullet down night. I dont understand how i go down so fast while i have to put a whole clip into someone. I even had a situation where i was up by the one shot, dude was rushing up. So i started to unload on him with my retro, easy kill right. After he couldnt move, he starts shooting me back with a retro and kills me. WTF?

I just witnessed an epic glitch in Checkout (God i wish i recorded it).

Dude with a Retro Lancer charged someone who was hiding behind a counter (The one where the Turret spawns), and lances him through the wall XD. Right afterward his character glitched out and he couldnt move and we ended up leaving him alive until he was the last person left on his team XD.

You can be behind cover sometimes and if someone runs by the cover you are behind while charging you get speared. It's fucking stupid.

The more I play the more I see more "Gears of War 2-esque" problems and bullshit. It's like the more they add the more broken stuff gets.
 
I told you guys the Retro charge had its own vacuum. ;P

We really do need to play sometime though Hustle. CTL with randoms is a painful experience and none of my friends will play it again without a full team. I sent you a FR to make sure I didn't forget again because as soon as I pick up Portal 2 and Homefront I probably won't ever touch this beta again (unless more unlocks show up).

Speaking of which are there any other "absolutely must unlock in beta for retail" unlocks left besides Trashball Cole and Gold Retro?

I was retro lancered behind a wall near the snipes. It was more towards the area you can climb up, but behind that at the end of the checkout lines. Saw dude rushing 100 miles away, so i backed up behind a tall wall, he somehow got me anyway.

Ive been playing CTL now, still run into people who want to rush in and shotgun the meatflag, instead of just throwing a damn smoke.

Ive been having fun trying to kill people with the gorgon pistol. Usually i can down a rusher with it, but once i remember dude just rushed right through it and shot me down, it was BS.

If anyone wants to add me to play with thats cool. I dont use a mic, but i think i play pretty smart. Might not have the best KD (1.0-1.5), but again i try to play smart, which can go a long way in CTL.

I cant wait to find out what week 4 surprise is. Rod also said that if you see one of the starting guns with a certain camo, all the other starting guns have it too. There are just different ways of getting it for each weapon.

The only reason I'm fine with the pick up setting is because I remember how bad Gears of War was with weapon sliding pricks. It totally ruined the game.

This setup literally forces you to need cover and clear areas to go for the good weapons. I do agree that the delay for the circle to finish, or even the selective nature of the pick up prompt, can be annoying, but I can get over it if it forces people to play tactically, rather than being a cowboy in the game.

That and the moonwalk glitch where the two I never minded. The quick pick up suits Gears. It's a fast paced game and it's something I wish they would have left in.

I agree. I am not crazy about the priority as it is set now. Clearly I would prefer to grab a downed enemy or save my teammate over grabbing a smoke grenade. Super annoying.

Also, I started using the retro lancer to unlock the skin. As others have said, many times you just bump the guy without performing the charge kill (even when it seems lined up and there seems to be no reason for it not to hit). Has there ever been an explanation behind this?
 
I'm gonna be playing today definitely.

And yeah CTL is painful with randos, sometimes even with a premade group, the game will screw your team and respawn the whole time behind you or respawn your time on the other side of the map while your leader is being capped. I miss weapon slide personally, what I don't miss is active longshot downs.

Or an enemy barely charges anywhere and bumps you, does massive damage to you then melees you and you're down.
 
Ok, today is definitely dumb fuck day for KOTH. I've already played maybe 5 matches where my team has gotten decimated because everyone thinks its fuck team deathmatch. I'm literally alone at the circle for maybe 75% of the entire match while my ENTIRE TEAM is just running around doing whatever the hell they want. Seriously, this is the mode I enjoy the most, but you CAN NOT WIN if your team isn't actually trying to take the hill.
 
Apparently being tagged by a Smoke while holding the enemy leader captive counts as an automatic down for the tagger. I swear this beta is f*cking hilarious. I hope they have enough servers for launch otherwise I'm sticking with the campaign and maybe Horde. Peer-to-peer = people running through half clips of Retro to one shot you with Gnashers, downing you from mid-range with Sawed-offs, Retro charging you from less than three steps away and demolishing you with three to five shots of Hammerburst/Retro at any range. Nothing has changed. The only thing keeping the game fair and consistent are the servers. Whenever you aren't on one it's GoW 2.5 at best with every 1v1 a roll of the dice to see who wins. Very disappointing.

Dominator: If your team isn't playing the objective you'll know by the first round. When that happens just switch to TDM mode and f*ck the loss. It's not your fault. I have to do this at least every 3 out of 5 CTL games because my team will never pick me up or support me to save their lives. When that happens I avoid both leaders and my team at all cost to salvage what little fun is left to finish the game. If I can't then I leave. Simple as that.

They really need to devise a way to severely penalize these players or dramatically increase the exp rewards for those who play the objective. It's sucks when you've downed and captured the leader a million times by yourself in a single round, but because you couldn't hold them for the win the game couldn't care less. Even if you did it while you were your team's leader it seems. Same for capping a trillion rings and still losing. Terrible set up IMO. Halo Reach was onto something when they gave players xp bonuses based on performance even if you lost because your team was absolute ass or left and you toughed it out.

I swear to god that bullshit is the new two-piece. I lost count of how many players did or attempted it for three games straight. If they miss the melee then they blind fire like crazy. It's honestly no different than mantle kick abuse. Beyond wack.

Pretty sure you can get all 5 starting weapons with gold, just not in the beta. Who knows how to get them, gold hammy was gamestop pre order bonus. Could also be in LE or EE, who knows, could be in regular edition. Just some ideas.
 
Played for a bit and had a solid day, just kinda got tired of it. There's always 1 person that eats all 8 gnasher slugs square to the body and then I reload after emptying my gnasher completely, the 9th shot puts him down somehow.
 
I had my chainsaw revved and the guy walked right through it, and when that happened, my lancer did a regular melee animation (like when you melee with a shotgun). Then the guy walked away from a death for free. Awesome.
 
The shotties are so much cheese. I get more headshots and one shot kills by hip firing than by aiming. I still have a lot of fun with it but the game is pretty broken.

Oh and i got a awesome tip for some noobs. I suck ass with the shotgun, so i heard that if you turn up the look sensitivity to 15, it works better on shooting from the hip. SUPER AWESOME! worked so well. try it out.
 
It says the codes will be sent by May 8th.

Do we have to buy the addon(s), games on demand or avatar gear from now to May 4th, or do the previous purchases count? (I don't expect people here to know immediately, but if you find out these answers, please respond.)

How can they track how long you've played Gears of War? Gears of War 2 has stats tracking, but I didn't think the original actually had a time tracker of any sort.
 
I just heard that a lot of people who are already in the beta will be getting more codes soon. If someone has an extra code and wants to do a random act of kindness and send it to me that would be awesome. I was a big Gears 1 player and have been playing Gears 2 lately... Now I'm looking for something to do since school is wrapping up.

Lonewolfed 10 CTL matches yesterday for the character unlock and probably only won 2 of them. They seemed to either end up as stalemates for a majority of the match or are over in less than 2 minutes with careless leaders.

I received the "better with friends" notification email but no code was enclosed. I'm guessing I either need better glasses or the codes are shipped in a following message? I was initially under the impression we all had to wait until May 8th but apparently that isn't the case. What gives? No point in even asking me for my code either. Someone already beat y'all to the punch so I'm saving it for them assuming I still have one.

Last night I was playing CTL. I had frags and tagged a dude on the back. He was probably oblivious to it because he ran around the corner and right to the his leader. BOOM! I LOLed.

I also upgraded the Skunker medal to level 4. Now my title reads "Skunk God". So... I'm a god to the skunks? I LOLed.
