CAGiversary!

Hey guys, I figured since we totally hijacked that DS Lite thread to talk about everything from cider to live local music....we might as well have a dedicated thread for it. Especially since I think we definitely have the most robust discussions in the Southeast CAG forum!

I'll kick it off by describing my recent EB experience:

I hit the Northlake EB (the one with the cool manager) today to grab some B2G1 goodness. I ended up getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (XB), RE2 (GC), and RE3 (GC), all complete and mint for 86.65. Considering that MvC2 goes for $50-60 on ebay, I thought this to be a pretty good purchase! As I was leaving, the manager guy told me that the North Dekalb store had some rare shit right now too, and that I should check it out. What a nice guy!

Anyway, I f'n hate that EB, but I figured it was worth a trip (its not that far from home). I ended up getting complete mint copies of REZ (PS2), LoZ Promo disc (GC, the one with Master Quest), and Cubivore (GC) for $72.20. Cool.

I also got 3 used DS games (preparing for the Lite on Sun) for B2G1. All three of the games (Trauma Center, Advance Wars, and MarioKart) were complete. But, somehow, as the dipshit was ringing me up, the Trauma manual somehow disappeared from the box! Since they insist upon slapping those damned clear stickers on the edges at sale time, I didn't notice the missing manual until I was on the way home. Jackasses!! Well, they had another complete used copy, so hopefully they can help me out tomorrow....but I'm not counting on it.

In the meantime, this dude with a baby was trading in 20 Xbox games (and getting ripped off, I might add), and the clueless employees there couldn't seem to get it all worked out. That poor bastard must've been there for about 45 minutes, and still hadn't gotten the right trade in credit. UGH.

My two trips today really showed me how utterly opposed two EBs within a few miles of one another could really be. And that is why I always go out to Northlake!

On to more beer talk!!

Posted this in the main deals forum in case it's not a local goof or whatever, but I couldn't ignore the locals so here's a minor deal on a brand new game and some stuff I found on Walmart.com for good measure:

Not an earthshattering deal, but I was at the Walmart in Lilburn, GA at Pleasant Hill and Lawrenceville Highway and I saw Call of Juarez for Xbox 360 for $50 instead of the MSRP of $60. It's $60 everywhere else including Walmart's website. Since I can't find a worker in electronics at 1 AM, I did not get it scanned so maybe it's a misprinted shelf sticker as the PC version is MSRP at $50. The sticker did specify X360 though.

I also saw Blitz The League for Xbox 360 for $19.99.

While I was looking at the website I found DiRT listed as $55 for Xbox 360 and there is a lot of stuff for sale under $10 (look for the option on the left side of the page at the video games page). Most of it's junk, but there were a few gems that could have been missed like Timesplitters Future Perfect for Xbox for 7.82 and some others.

Hey, gang. I've been ignoring this forum lately, but I'm doin' alright. I got myself a Wii over Memorial Day weekend! So, that's cool.

I may have asked this before, but does anyone on here play Contact for the DS? I need more virtual friends on there!

I own it, but it's been months since I played. Think I still need one or two people to fill out my island, so maybe we should hook up.

Yeah, we should. Unfortunately, connecting on that game is more difficult than a mid-air refuelling. Give a holler if you're on AIM or some such thing.

Has anyone seen any PS2 headsets/mics or Wavebirds around lately? I would like to get 1 or 2 of each, and they seem to have mostly disappeared from stores. I realize that the GC stuff has mostly been clearanced out, but Nintendo ought to push out a few more for the Wii/GC players...

Man, sometimes it feels like I'm the only southside CAG here. Jonesboro area, but in about a month and a half I'll be getting the fuck out of clayton county and up to northside with my wife and a friend of hers. Don't really know the areas too well though. Anyone have any advice on north by northwest (intentional reference) geography based on safety? Right now just about anything is better than here.

I really didn't NEED to swear, but I've never had the reason to pull a shaq-fu. I'm proud of myself now.

Kennesaw, Acworth, Roswell and Alpharetta are all pretty much low crime. Marietta proper can be sketchy in some places, as can West Cobb. That's about it, housing prices usually keep out any riff-raff. Some roving graffiti bandits are popping up, but I hope these areas never see the type of stuff I've been hearing about going on down there.

Good luck on selling your house, from what I've heard on the radio. I'm counting the days until I can move back home (East Cobb/Kennesaw).

Next time I go out I'll look specifically. Personally i"m more upset I didn't buy more wavebird recharable batteries. It's the greatest thing ever and I should have bought 4 of them.

Are they not available anymore?

Anyone seen DiRT 360 at a CC in the metro area? It didn't come off the delivery truck when it was supposed to at the Duluth store and all stores in my area either have an empty spot by the divider or no divider at all. It's not even on their website to search for it and all of the CC employees are clueless as to how to search their inventory or that of local stores. The reason I ask is because I received a Gift Card with the idea that I could use it for DiRT.

I work on Wednesday and I'll try to remember to check it then.
I work on Wednesday and I'll try to remember to check it then.
Thanks, but I found one today. It must have been delivered today as they had none Sunday or earlier and no divider in the racks either. On the other hand they didn't have The Darkness, The Bigs or Hour of Victory on the racks which should have arrived today unless they ran the 3 copies of DiRT out first!

On a related note, has anyone seen Virtua Tennis 3 (360) at a CC? I'd definitely get it for that 16.96 clearance price. The girl at CC said they couldn't check on availability of items with their old system, but they were "getting a new system on the 18th." They've looked up items for me before for both in store and local store availability so I don't know what the deal is, but I've been told the same thing repeatedly at four or five stores.

I got the same spiel about a new inventory system from a nice old fella at Buckhead CCity last week, too. I actually found two Platinum Wavebirds there, and bought one of them. I'd like to track down a gray one at some point.

CC is officially switching to a new POS system on July 18. I haven't started training for it yet so I can't give an opinion on it. The training computers sat in our store for over a year before they were ever put to use though.

Hi guys.

I have been reading on CAG for some time now, but haven't had a reason to post. I didn't realize there were so many of us around the ATL area. I live in a tiny town of Rockmart and check the nearby Gamestops pretty regularly. I usually get around to Rome, Hiram, Woodstock, Kennesaw, Cartersville and Douglasville. There are 2 Gamestops in Cartersville that have some pretty good finds. One is a converted Rhino that still has a few Genesis, SNES, and PS1 games if anyone is looking. Also, did someone mention opening a comic book store in Hiram in this thread?

I actually used to work at the EBgames inside of Perimeter Mall. I hated the management but I loved the customers. (except for the occasional oddball trading in his entire dvd collection 5 minutes before closing >_

The new one in Rome isn't terrible. I usually scrounge through Hiram and Douglasville. The old cartersville Rhino I haven't been in since the conversion. Good to hear they've kept some legacy product.

Also, did someone mention opening a comic book store in Hiram in this thread?
A couple months back. All the ITP guys in here said Hiram wasn't good enough. It isn't anything exceptional, but we're getting a CC and a BestBuy right at the main intersection so nyah.

Welcome Ultrawolf. I dont know the names of malls around here (I don't go to malls very often), so I don't know where Perimeter is.

Did you suffer under the DM Karen? Now there was a brilliant lady. Years back, she had her stores organize the games on the walls and behind the counter by... the color of their spine or cover. I kid you not.

We all know as customers, we go into a game store and tell them, "I'm looking for something in chartruese."

Found a Virtua Tennis 3! They said they would set the "last one" aside in cust service, but the line was so long that I perused the clearance bin and 360 section first and found a VT3 mixed into the 360 section. CS was still packed when I left so I didn't ask if they had one set aside and the VT3 I found was on the front of the closest end to CS; ie the lazy place to "return" it to the floor so my guess is I found the copy they would "hold" for me. This was at the CC by Lenox Mall downtown. They had a bunch of Tony Hawk American Wastelands for 17 as well.

Perimeter Mall is right off 285 on the north side of the city just east of the 400 interchange. They have a Cheesecake Factory which is worth the trip alone.

Holla, Sugar. I drove through your town twice this week.

Holla, Darlin.:D
That's cool. I didn't think anyone would have even heard of it.

Yeah, the only problem that I have with the one is Rome is that their games aren't usually complete. I'm also a picky ass gamer.

Damn, that really got my hopes up. Me and a buddy of mine drive to a great store in Woodstock. The only problem is that the gas we are burning for the trip is killing my funding. One in Hiram would be great. So, if the OP reads this, you have 2 customers already.

It isn't anything exceptional, but we're getting a CC and a BestBuy right at the main intersection so nyah.

Please don't tease me with this? Really? Life would be so much better with a CC and a BestBuy closer.
Woodstock? I can't think of a store there.
The store's name is ComicBooksEtc!
It is in a small strip mall off of Parkside Lane next to a Johnny's Pizza.
I have been going there for almost 2 years now and the owner Rick is really great to deal with and very professional.
The web address is http://www.comicbooksga.com/

I don't know if anyone cares, but I stopped by the K-Mart in Rome, GA last night and they had several copies of Tomb Raider Legend for the XBOX 360 clearanced to $15.

Thanks for the welcome Tybee.

I've been reading the forums for a while now, but never realized there was a thread for ATL gamers. So now I have a reason to post!

A couple of weeks ago, at the Best Buy on Highway 41/Cobb Parkway in Acworth, they had a few copies of the Gears of War Collector's Edition Tin for $39.99 if anyone is interested.
Yeah, the only problem that I have with the one is Rome is that their games aren't usually complete.
Tell me about it. I still have an empty Zelda WW case from either Last Christmas or the one before when I picked it up for my little bro. Empty as in, it had the original case, original art, instructions; the game disc (which he showed me was in perfect condition as I always ask to see disc condition) was not included. #-o

Same here.

Me and a buddy of mine drive to a great store in Woodstock.
Hey, a buddy of mine worked there for a while. Here's a pic of us in the store when I brought him his Easter basket a couple years ago. Yes, it's blurry. Kid taking the picture had the shakiest hands.

Please don't tease me with this? Really? Life would be so much better with a CC and a BestBuy closer.
I wouldn't lie about something so wonderful. The big intersection of 278 and 92 where they built the SuperTarget a few years back? Across from that Target they're building tons of stuff to further congest traffic. Little strip malls with generic strip mall stores. Stand alone, they're building a Best Buy and a Circuit City within about 300 yards of each other.

And that Publix that closed when Target opened, that's going to be a Staples.
I don't know if anyone cares, but I stopped by the K-Mart in Rome, GA last night and they had several copies of Tomb Raider Legend for the XBOX 360 clearanced to $15.
Not bad. I've stopped hitting that Kmart, because they've got that nasty habit of marking their clearances. So the stuff sells. And I never find nufin.

I'll have to check that out either Sunday or Monday. I've wanted that for quite a while, and I bet I could trade my standard copy in for at least half that.

ewww...I know what you mean. I have finally gotten in the habit of checking every game case before I walk out the door. I have bought a few games only to notice that they were cracked or someone used the disc as a replacement for sandpaper

Cool. That must have been before I started going there. I believe Seth was the guy's name that was always there when I went in. Before that we went to a comic shop in Austell. It wasn't bad, they just didn't get a lot of the books I was looking for. And don't even get me started about the one in Rome...

I usually go to Hiram at least once a week, so this absolutely wonderful news to me. You have just made my day!

You are absolutely right about the traffic. Sometimes when I am unlucky, I have to drive to Smyrna to work and the stretch on 278 in Hiram is usually just as bad as Windy Hill at 5pm.

Not bad. I've stopped hitting that Kmart, because they've got that nasty habit of marking their clearances. So the stuff sells. And I never find nufin.

They have been slacking on their price marking lately. Tomb Raider was turned in the case where you couldn't see a price tag. And it was marked $20 but scanned for $15. Hard to leave that kind of deal...

I will keep my eye out for any YMMV deals and post to this thread when/if I find any.

I thought about that myself but I am quickly running out of room for my games and the tin is about the size of 2 or 3 regular cases. I originally saw the games over a month ago there and saw that they were still there a couple of weeks ago.

I swear everything that's wrong with Gamestop/EbGames is in the management. I heard she got fired recently (finally), I don't know the whole skinny though but it's ALMOST enough to make me want to go back to work there.

Perimeter Mall is in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area.

Wolf, I don't know if Karen got fired, but I know she's gone.

But who did get fired... Kathy the Regional Manager, her best friend and the entire reason Karen was a DM with EB in the first place. Kathy was fired for reasons I can tell you if you like. PM if you're wanting to know the story. It's nothing terribly dramatic.

Karen should have stayed with clothing stores. She was with EB, left for a time, then came back. Why? My theory was just to give the store managers and customers a hard time.

The new DM out here (forgot his name, I'm terrible with names) seems to be a decent guy. But time will tell.

Oh, thanks for the location. I had a friend who lived in SS I think. Is that the mall with the Cheesecake Factory?

Hi guys.

I don't know if any of you are interested, but I just posted a link in the auction forums. I am slowly selling off my PS2 collection and since we are all in the same area the shipping should be super fast.

No go on GOW, that was a huge waste of gas.

Damn, sorry to send you on a wild goose chase.

I am really surprised that they sold out since they had been sitting there for almost a month.

I will definately keep my eye out for anymore and let you know.

I feel like an :booty: right now...

Wait--- they gave you the case and everything without the game? Even after checking? Owww.

Worst case for me was buying a "new" Donkey Konga 2 when they were clearancing them out... only to come home and find no game with the Bongos. I went back and said something and WOW~! there's the game. (The other workers cursed the "idiot" who forgot to give me the game since they gut the easier to steal items)... different store though, but ouch to your story none-the-less.

Well, I hit 2 CCs checking the clearance games today, and found what I was looking for in Buckhead: Avatar and Meet the Robinsons for Wii for 16.96. I should be able to trade these in at EB for one $50 game, and then even go back to CC and get my price adjustment to compensate for the 25% off sale that starts at CCity this Sunday.

Anyway, the point of all this being, Northpoint CC has only Happy Feet and Ice Age II left. Buckhead has one Avatar left, and maybe 2 Happy Feet or Ice Ages.

I just put a couple of hours into Avatar. It's decent fun, but nothing I'd really want to play for days. Of course, I have never watched the show at all. I imagine that helps to endear the game to someone. Meet the Robinsons got pretty bad reviews... I may try it later.
Gears of War advertised for 44.88 @ Brandsmart 7/7 to 7/10.
OOS when I went on Saturday. Madden 07 360 was $9.88 though.

Honestly, I've taken advantage of several of their deals and I've never been there. I just PM them, but I can't recall when the ads are in the paper as I saw this on the online viewable version of the ads.

Would anyone be able to pick me up a copy of HD-DVD A Scanner Darkly either today or tomorrow from Fry's? I'm afraid I won't be back in town until next week and I really want this movie. But I don't want to pay all that shipping.

If you can, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Two things:

I spotted five Wiis at the Snellville Walmart on Wednesday night. Sorry, no PC access to post earlier. I saw two more at the Sears in Gwinnett Place Mall today.

Also, if anyone sees a non-pink DS Lite in a Blockbuster/Gamerush please PM or post. I have a value card at BB that would pay the majority of it, but the only DS Lites I've found on the eastside of the city are pink. Thanks.

Thanks, just don't trouble yourself too much. I've been calling a bunch on the eastside by entering different zips in the store locator, but I've already noticed five stores that never came up and I had to get the phone numbers from the blockbuster locator instead. And yes, I'm looking for new only in this case. I work downtown so I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere from there on my break. Of course, no GRs show up downtown in the store locator!
