Anybody who mains Abel, does anyone have any tips for playing better as him? Just small tips, I know about most of his move's properties. Not all of them, but most. So anything you throw at me is useful. Just small ones like, for example, Abel's Ultra is able to go through projectiles or any type. A comment that small would be appreciated! :D;)
distgfx do you have SFIV for PS3 or 360?

Do want

So, I've been playing mostly random select as of late. It's weird how I can be solid with characters I never thought I would use, like Ryu, Balrog, Cammy, Guile, etc. Meanwhile, when there are characters I actually want to learn, like Rose, Rufus, and Seth, I get mopped. :]

Especially in UMK3. Whenever I'm doing some in-person casual games, it's random select like 92% of the time. I agree that it's a great way to "discover" characters that you otherwise would never have bothered with!

True fact:

I have been playing KOF98 on/off for the past few days and i really am not having any fun AT ALL. I even got pretty good with clark and im pretty good with iori already, but failing to find a third i like and just not having fun with the game. I will likely just cut off my KOF game time till 12 comes out and hope i can adapt to that.
Also backdash for the ultra, which you have to do pretty quickly.
you don't have to for trial mode, because you just need to hit them with one hit for them to count.

but in a real match, you would FA backdash after a cannon spike.

Only 3 weeks of school left, then I can really start taking SF4 seriously.

Question...

everyone mentions cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. short, fierce headbutt --> super with Balrog as being a BnB combo with boxer, but what advantage does that have over using cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. strong, jab dash punch --> super? I know the timing is a little more strict on the second one, but it seems way more damaging.

I understand using ultra in place of the super in the first combo (so it'd be cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. short, fierce headbutt --> ultra) and that makes sense to me, but just wondering why people would waste super in this situation....

i think most use the ultra instead of the super

and the super to just finish the match?

usually when i watch rog players on utube videos they use their supers on the last round since rog doesnt really need to EX anything

for the 2nd one i thought that was impossible?
since the jab dash punch makes ur stick go forward, u wouldnt have a back charge to do into the ultra?
distgfx do you have SFIV for PS3 or 360?
Technically both but I prefer playing on my PS3 since I have a stick for it.

Rog's super does a lot of damage too. And he can build meter fairly quickly. He doesn't need to do FADC out of moves, so he doesn't waste meter on those. He just either uses EX or supers.

+ due to damage scaling after the heavy buffalo, the ultra doesn't take off as much after longer strings/more hits.

When I can, I would rather hit the Ultra straight up or after cr.lk into heavy buffalo.

Can't remember if I added you or not to my PSN Friend List.

If you're ever up for some Abel or Seth matches let me know. I main both exclusively so don't expect too much variety in terms of my character selection :)

EDIT: FR sent on PSN

I think I need to get more into SFIV. I might snag the PS3 version soonish, just to be able to play against everyone in the FGT. I've barely played it as of late, though I did smoke some random dude on XBL yesterday.

You're gonna wheel kick into me and then tornado throw me, aren't you?

Oh well, I've never seen a good Seth.

Of the many things Seth can do on knockdown......maybe :)

Mentally I'm at a point I may just stop playing randoms on PSN entirely. Just feel that when playing FGT/SRK/local friends members only, my skill level either stays where it is or gets better. With randoms, I can't do half of the stuff I want to do because of all sort of random shit I don't see from normal players. FDP EVERYTHING

No idea if that makes sense or not.

DO IT. PSN!

Tried randoms on ranked this morning and everything came down to the line. What got me all riled up was losing to the same tactics over and over. Jump back, hadoken, c.roundhouse when I jump/dash into range, DP me in the air, jump up and knock my DR/HS. I don't know why, but when I play randoms I tend to suck a lot more, plus a lot of Ryu/Ken/Akumas like to hop back into a corner and force me to go after them, because everytime they come after me, they lose.

What I do enjoy is a Ryu throwing an Ultra at me on wake up and me EX SK through it to kill him :)

I also got my first rage quit today! Ultra'd an El Fuerte as he botched a run towards me and dc'd right in the middle of it. Unfortunately, I was too worked up on finding the other foos who beat me to harass him with messages.

I understand where you're both coming from, I can't get my 10 straight wins in a row because of it.

I learned one thing earlier. >_<

Stick > Foot
DO IT. PSN!
I will sometime. You'll beat me down though. I'm terrible. :)

GGs Phrost. I know I suck. I just need to practice more. SFIV is by far my weakest SF. Flowchart Balrog Scrub Match '09 was fun though.

 Fo Sho Yo.

I've been trying to finish up all the Hard Challenges in SFIV. I got most of them done but I'm having difficulties with a few, namely Balrog, El Fuerte & Gen. I think a large part of it has to do with my controller. My brother might sell me his SF pad so maybe I'll have better luck then.

Anyone here do all the challenges?

Question about Balrog. I have trouble pulling off his Dashing Uppercut. 90% of the time he does that dashing gut punch instead. I don't have this problem with the dashing strait & dashing low blow. Am I wierd or is this a common problem?
Where the hell you been man?

I've seen you post about FG's/SFIV in every thread around here but the actual FGT :)
I just forgot to check the thread from time to time.
Did you get it at GS? I wanna pick up the PS2 version like right now. Been working 7 days strait, haven't had a chance to check.
Yeah, I got mine at Gamestop.

i'm having trouble landign balrogs ultra in hard #4. for the dash ex upper i add an extra standing jab to the combo after the first 2 cr.jabs.

i'm having a hard time with viper's 3rd hard trial, fuerte's 4th, cammy's second, fei longs' 4th, and blanka's last hard trial.

I don't remember rogs 4th, is vipers 3rd the super jump cancel? I just tigerkneed the shit out of everything and hoped it would work, and it did a couple of times.

do a backdash after focus attack with fuerte, makes it easier seeming, and time your lk before fuertes back hits the ground.

I just have viper gen and Abel's 5th left.
I was hoping for more Blanka Furashu ;)
haha

its weird i practice with balrog, but blanka feels more natural.
i dont even practice blanka or never really have. only to do his horiz roll... haha

anyone experience this too?

lol bison vs bison was fun

Yeah, Balrog's 4th is what's giving me trouble. I can't seem to pull of the the dashing EX upper on a consistant basis, he always does the the other dashing punch. Also landing the Ultra after the headbutt seems pretty tough, but I pulled it off once while trainning.

Went to GS and asked for Samurai Shodown Anthology for PS2. The guy pulled out Samurai Warriors and started to ring me up. Long story short they didn't have it. :(

I feel bad for ya but damn, that's just too funny.

Yeah, the damage scaling from that 'Rog combo is just ridic... I think I'll start doing just cr. lk, headbut --> ultra instead of the 2 jabs first. I guess it's situational, if you know you can hit the job combo it's kinda dumb to pass up free damage.

all about the match i guess..

i gotta work on my ex dash upper combos.... as in try them. haven't even looked into it yet, although I feel that my 'Rog is coming along nicely considering how little i've used him

GG's to distgfx. Wasn't meant to embarrass at all, my point with Abel was to hopefully inspire and encourage :)

Many, many tools once you score a knockdown. Keep em' guessing!

I whiffed so badly, I even missed Gouken's throw -> Ultra

I did learn one thing from your Abel though. Roll -> Tornado Throw, why didn't I think of that? At least I kinda started to figure out how you played your Abel.

Your Seth though man... wow, just wow. :whistle2:o

GGs!

I hit exactly 5000 BP tonight.. I'm now retiring from ranked mode. Also, I played DOA4 for the first time and.. well.. first impression? Terrible VF knock-off. :(

Be careful with your timing on the Roll--->Tornado Throw with Abel. Try it out on live competition so you get a knack to when it's fine to throw it out and when it's not. Obviously EX TT has faster recovery so if you miss you are alright, but time a standard TT after Roll wrong and you eat all sort of nasty shit :). Practicing the timing on just EX TT or TT on wake-up helps as well.

Maybe I'm being humble, but as I always say my Abel/Seth still have a long ways to go.

That match when you played Akuma was hilarious. At one point I was thinking "There's no way that Raging Demon is going to hit me", then I land after a jump and BAM.

EX TT... got it. That match with Akuma was indeed hilarious, it was hard trying to find the right time to do it with you. It all worked out in the end though, didn't miss a single one. :D

There's always room for improvement, no? Either way, you're still damned good with them as you are.

EDIT: Oh yea, for Ryu, what was the combo you use to get someone in the air and hit 'em with his Ultra on the way down? I couldn't remember it at all ... so I whiffed it.
DP (when they're jumping at you) > Ultra?

Ooooh, FADC! That's right! Thanks man.

Me Me! :)

Is it embarrassing that I can't FADC correctly?

Really? I can do it, but I find it hard to do in the heat of battle because my mind's racing.

I found that doing cammy's dive kick is pretty easy with a square gate. I usually go 3219+k, like a triangle. I've been getting about 90% success doing it that way instead of doing 2149+k.

 ggs those were fun asianX :)

the double dan fight was silly when we both ultra'd

I literally lol'd as well when I was against ur Abel and we were both low on life avoiding everything and then I run in and you kill me with your toe >_

Those games were priceless. Loved the Dan mirror match as well. If I remember right with both EX Shoryu at the same time then Ultra'ed at the same time....but yours hit :)

The whole time I was playing Dan I was saying to myself "Oh god, how the fuck do you play as Dan" :)
Really? I can do it, but I find it hard to do in the heat of battle because my mind's racing.
I think it's more that I never really sat down to practice. Spend about 10-15 minutes in Training Mode just now attempting to FADC Abel's Rekka....success!!

The problem was that I was waiting until after the move hit to FADC it, instead of doing just that but also preparing to cancel the first hit. We'll see if I have the confidence to try it out in matches.

Got the 4 on 4 SFIV this Friday (as well as a bunch of random side matches) as well as a possible SFIV local tourney in about 2 weeks.

Well at least I hope you felt the struggle of playing Dan

I still need to play other CAGs sometime...

I am at least confident with my skills as Dan now, unlike I use to be.

I wish the tournament bracket patch would hit soon since it'd be nice to get tourneys up and running easily. I'm also waiting on the full costume pack whenever it's released.
