Depends on the context really... I'm definitely not "casual" compared to most of my friends. But I definitely wouldn't consider myself "competitive." If I have to put a label on myself here, it would be "enthusiastic."
i'm not casual

i'm strictly business
Oh that's just what we call pillow talk, baby, that's all.

When can we expect to hear more from SDT about compents in the T6 stick? I know you said it doesn't have sanwa in it but what about quick discounects? Will you be able to say anything before the release?
I'm casual i.e. I've played a ton of fighters, but I'm laid back, I don't go out looking for competition too hard, etc. I'm more of a huge fan of them than hardcore into them. I'm not going to be analyzing frame data anytime soon, for example, though I might gleam strategies and combos off of videos. I really need to move to an area with local competition.
Same here. I try to play every fighter that comes down the line, but I don't play them to be the best around(can't really with my lack of Live Gold). I play them to enjoy them.

When you start playing fighting games based on memorized frame data numbers is when you've gone too "hardcore" with the genre, IMO. It's one thing to know from experience that the start-up for move x is kinda slow, but when you know the numerical data for said move off the top of your head is another thing entirely. I know there's a community for players like that, but I think they take it too seriously. They play just to prove their "elite" skills, nothing more.

I just don't think enough people play fighting games for the fun of it anymore. Fighting is about quick reaction and instinct, not numbers.

Intermediate players 4 life, yo.:joystick:

TvC is pretty casual with the nunchuck/wiimote combo of pressing a directional to do moves.

That said, i have my modded T5 stick + GC adapter ready to whoop you fools onine with the inevitable 2fps online the wii is known for hits with the US release. Watch out!

I really doubt anyone knows the frame rates for each toon out there, or could even list off the data for their player of choice. People use frame rates to learn how to make better combos work, seeing what can link better with x move, or what would be a better counter for y.

I see this as no different from people who play sports games and know that picking a play over another will work better for what they want to do. Or a fps knowing the specs of a weapon will work out better in a given situation than some other weapon. Same could be said for rpgs or rts.Fighters have frame data, the system is based off of this data, I think a lot of you have a strong misconception of those who enjoy working out the ins and outs of fighting games.

Some enjoy learning the specs of what they like to play, I don't think it is because they want to prove how " elite " they are, they just want to know why something works and why it wouldn't.

I wish I could be a game overlord. I'd decree that anyone caught playing or endorsing anything Mortal Kombat-related that doesn't include Johnny Cage hates America.

AMURRKA.

I'm pretty casual. I buy pretty much every fighting game on the 360 but in the end I don't play it competitively like some of you do.

Tho buying a TE stick is definitely not casual when I tell my friends about it.

I finally got a team I'm comfortable with in Mahvel. Felicia/Cammy/Psylocke. Dem bitches is raw.

lol EDIT: I just got 3 ragequits in Scoreboard with this team. The fuck!?

same here
though only reason i got a TE stick was due to it being incredibly cheap
You sound just like the people on GAF and SRK.

This is pretty much my opinion on the situation.
Very true.. lack of arcade release isn't a big deal. Japan is going to stop playing? OH NOZ WHAT WILL WE DO NOW?!!? I doubt Japan will stop playing, they have PS3's don't they?

Also, GGs to shinryuu. Your Abel is pretty solid. I was going nuts when our last match ended, it was sooo close. Sorry I had to leave after only a few matches.

I noticed you guys were talking about character changes a few pages back, I want buffs for these guys: DEFINITELY VEGA, Blanka, Honda, Chun, Sakura, Dan, Viper, Abel, and Gen.

I think they do.. some shit that Blanka does makes no sense to me whatsoever. For example, I love cross-up Blanka ball.. but it's only good at the end of the match, cuz even when it hits it's unsafe! Successful cross-up Blanka ball = SPD... does that make sense to anyone? WTF?

Oh yeah.. and to the GAF/SRK minded people who think lack of arcade & console set-ups are too much of a hassle = death of the scene, you need to check out UMBC game night some time. The best players in the Mid-Atlantic come down every Wednesday and show their l33t console set-up skills.

Got my first ragequit today, feels nice...

He would have survived that I believe, but whatever. Won't be playing with "adogg1" anymore.
Blanka needs a buff. not claw. claw aint green.
Like most vegetarians, Blanka is ugly and unimpressive. Claw = beauty, so he automatically deserves a buff more than Blanka.

I've mentioned that not getting an arcade release isn't a big deal, and I stand by that. But the thing that confuses me is that if people have the time to go to the arcade, how do they not have time to play each other on a console instead? Seems a bit odd to me.
We are hommies, so I am just going to say this:

When I was playing CVS2 at MGL/SVGL with friends or SFIV at SJSU, both places were there. I didn't need to call up or make plans ahead of time. I knew what time they opened and closed Sun-Sat and I just go whenever I wanted. When I was rolling out to SJSU for SFIV by myself, it was late on random weekdays and I got a handful of games in before having to head out. Just showed up basically.

Having the time to do that is completely different than having the time to setup a big get together. The last get together I went to was at some dudes house I didn't know, but someone in my crew knew. There were easily 40+ people there more than half there for SFIV. Was that something everyone just dropped by for? Nope. The guy got the house to himself and let people know about it a couple weeks ahead of time.

It's just inconvient to just randomly drop by someones house and play, friend or not. Lots of us here have jobs (some of us two jobs), significant others and all sorts of stuff going on. With Arcades I can just drop by when I have the time and it's open to me the same way a Supermarket or a Best Buy is. Though I would love to play for free on Consoles all day, with sticks I know work correctly, most of the time it's more of planned thing and ends up being harder to play because everyone has lives and plans (which change).

Tekken is nothing but gay/incest fantasies. :nottalking:
snip
I guess I can see what you're trying to say. As easy as it is to plan get-togethers, it's that much easier to show up at an arcade. Being a console-brat and not an arcade-rat makes me think differently.

GGs also. Are you practicing with Ryu? I can never tell if anyone is anymore since Ryu is my worst matchup, no matter what my character is. You still managed to DEFEAT SHENG LONG, though.

I still main Abel/Seth, but have added Ryu to the mix. Threw him into my list of mains around early Summer or something like that, I can't remember.

Minus some really ridiculous shit, he's just fun to play.

Are YOU practicing Gouken?

Yeah, remember when you could just jab him out of his rolling attacks all day? That was fun. Electricity? Sweep. And he's still a bitch to deal with.

Blanka doesn't need anything in SSFIV. No nerfs, no buffs. Claw, on the other hand, desperately needs some invincibility frames on his backflip kick, or something. You can sit next to him after he's knocked down and start jabbing, and all he can do is block. Anything else gets hit by the jabs.

Agreed completely. Blanka can eat a dick though.

I'm sure I can test it or look it up but I'm lazy.

For one of Gouken's corner shenanigans does:

EX Palm DP--->FP Fireball---->Ultra

do more damage than

EX Palm DP--->Ultra

I'm did pretty well for my shopping in Japan. I got almost all the fighters I wanted except Melty Blood 2 which I just couldn't find cheap. I'll try to get a pic up so I can share with you guys. A lot of it's just 100 yen stuff I got solely to sell off.

Even tough I had fun I can't wait to get back to the states and try out all my goodies and wait for Tekken 6.
blanka def needs something.

claw needs a dick. one of you guys can provide.
What the hell could Blanka need? Please enlighten me, because at the moment, I can't think of a single thing that he needs to be better than he is now.

Yeah, I did that to someone online the other day. I felt pretty awesome, and I was surprised I didn't get a ragequit. I only really try it when I get them near the corner, and even then, sometimes I forget.

Sorry I wasnt clear, but I'm just fukcing with you guys... plus I really don't like Claw... alot.

Also, didnt realize T6 PSP was releasing in november? I thought it was all oct 27? in a way that's good but I wanted something to at least play on the metro rail/bus. ANy exact day in Nov since I see no date yet?

Why would you want to risk doing that? Seems like a dumb thing to do. You miss, you get nothing. You hit it...well, there you go. That's like trying to cross someone up with Gief's lariat.

Well it requires precise timing and it's something that I've learned to do consistently. I think I should be rewarded for it. Unfortunately, I don't think the SFIV developers even knew about it.. and that's why it gets punished.
Paul has the best ending (as usual)....

Also, the game has in game flyers (on walls/street poles) with Church's Chicken!
