I was cracking a joke at how all this crap takes place in CA. Not to mention I replied at 3:36AM, so sue me for misreading your statement.

New SF4 looks bangin, new VF5 looks banging. I'm going to hope that Sega never brought out the VF5.1 build to consoles cuz they were waiting for this 5.2 build.

Sega has been doing a good job lately though haven't they? Sonic 4 looks good to me thus far.

Good news about Blazblue, even though I hardly played the PS3 copy I bought.

Also Capcom finally got to me. I re-bought Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, even though I have the JPN version. All the rebalances alone make TvC UAS a completely different game.

I see a lot of people dropping their mains in favor of trying out the "new" cast. There has been so much talk amongst my friends of who their new mains will be or (if they will stick to their current mains), that we all needed to make sure we don't have like 52 Dudleys and 30 Adons in our crew :)

TvC is still fun. What is annoying? Capcom decided to throw the shortcut system in the US version :(

haha, same with my group of friends. Actually, we all use a different character in SF4 so we get a variety of matchups. The problem is, we don't have anyone that uses some of the more popular tourney characters like Ryu or Gief. It's funny cause when we all mentioned who we might use in Super, we all said a different character.

Speaking of my friends, one of them beat Mike Ross.

Shortcuts in TvC? Dang.

And me dropping Gouken is less about trying new characters, and more about how he'll probably not have enough of his shit fixed.

I see way more Ryu than Ken now. I'd say 70% Ryu and 30% Ken.

Every fighting game is the same. You have your top-tier whores, your bottom-tier whores, your people that try out every character, your players that will only pick females or only male characters, your players that will only pick strong or quick characters, your players that will only pick shotos, your players that will only pick anti-shotos, your players that will pick characters that they started playing in SF2, or in SF Alpha, or in SF3, or in SFIV, or in SSFIV. You see what I'm saying? Just like we all fought good Vega's, Gouken's, Gen's, and Guile's in SFIV, I'm sure we'll fight a little bit of everyone in SSFIV.

Brings up the question: why do you main who you main? I know Jim played Balrog in SF2 and if I recall correctly he played him in SFIV too. Last I remember, Hank mained Gouken, uraizen mained Cammy and Viper, I know we have a lot of Ryu players too.. a Zangief, and a few others... I main Blanka, as you can probably tell, even if you've never fought me online.

Why? Well, I've always been a charge-character player, for almost 15 years probably... I'm almost 24 now so that sounds like a good estimate. I used Blanka in SF2.. but then again I also used Chun, Honda, and Guile a lot.. I didn't use Bison because by the time SF2:CE came out on Genesis.. I was already used to only having 8 characters to choose from. :)

He was kinda terrible in SF2 Remix for PSN and XBL (when I started playing SF "for real" again), but I stuck with him because he was always a favorite of mine over Honda... also.. I thought Honda was too strong, and honestly.. kind of cheap. So, I remember my first SFIV match.. I bought the game when the GameCrazy opened at 10am. I played a dude from UMBC.. I picked Guile and he picked someone else.. I beat him. I didn't pick Blanka but after a day or so of owning the game, I knew who my main would be. I already saw that Sagat was ridiculously strong and Vega and Guile were really weak compared to him... Blanka, on the hand, had a lot of things that I liked: short simple combos, a flashy Ultra (w/ good chip damage), lots of cross-up options, etc. He grew on me pretty quick and I probably won't abandon him when Super comes around.. I just hope they don't make him too much worse.. I know he was OK in SFIV, but not great.

Yea, it's annoying. I'm sorry but I hate shortcut motions. There should be an option to turn them off or not have them in the game. I get what Capcom is trying to do, but why do I have to get annoyed/punished because I'm not new to Fighting Games?

FPS/3rd Person Shooter companies don't make things easier for new players in their games. When I was playing GRAW2 competitively, I had to learn that shit from the ground up and there wasn't any easy option for anything in that game.

I agree with your choice with Gouken. Make your life easier, pick someone better ;)
Man... I feel so stupid right now.

Didja beat it on Veteran? Cuz that was easy.

I played my first game of TvC yesterday at a Gameworks and it was pretty fun. I would like to invest in the game, but $80 for a stick is sort of out the question right now. If only GS.online still had it in stock, I could sure burn some credit.

Also, what would you guys do? At Gameworks yesterday, I was on a SFIV cabinet and then a little girl goes on the other one. I guess she chose beginner mode (where it lets you fight the cpu 3 times before being linked to the other cabinet) since the thing didn't go "Here comes a new challenger", but when that happened, I didn't know whether to pummel her or give a few shots to make it look like she could beat me. I went the latter, but still felt pretty bad.

I show little mercy. Only because none was given to me when I was a kid. I constantly got killed in Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. I'm still emotionally scared. :(

Ryu will always be my test dummy for any new sf. Just grew up playing with him as a wee lad in a environment that was full on chun and comb throwers, he has just stuck. Picked up Cammy for super because she was a faster paced toon and I have a British accent fetish. Think Alpha was the game that changed a lot of how I play with custom combos and a faster t2 speed. SF4 was more a Ryu/Sak time. Any more for me it's just who is fast. I like a more aggressive play style so if they play that way it is who I will pick up. Big reason why I enjoy GG/BB so much more than SF.

I would show no mercy. Back in the SFII days I watched an 8-year-old decimate a series of college guys at the arcade and learned a valuable lesson that day.

No mercy, I find that showing mercy is actually quite insulting to the other player because you're not playing at your best. Even if it is just a little girl, I don't think you should hold back. Hell, she may of learned a thing or two if you beat her down.

You guys are nuts. Generally if they're really bad, you can tell right off the bat.

Plus, given the situation and that I was playing the computer already, I would probably be so bored that I'd give the game away.

why do you main who you main?
If the game has been out for a while, I look at the tier lists and read up on why they are where they are.

I generally pick characters that are hot girls but then I move into characters that are just annoying and have tricks. For example, Sagat and Ryu are solid top tiers that just do a lot of damage, so I don't like playing them. I play Sakura/Akuma, Sakura for the reset mixup, Akuma for the wakeup games. In T6 I pick Alisa because she has really good whiff punishment and annoying movement. GG:AC I went with Jam because her voice is annoying and she had that one sick combo that did like, 90% but was hard to set up because she has no range, otherwise. ST/HDR I picked Ken because jab SRKs are annoyingly safe and because of kneebash mixups.

The only fundamentally solid character I picked up would be Noel from BB, and that's only because that game takes forever to learn and I started with Noel.

When I picked fighting games back up seriously when HD Remix came out, I tended to play charge characters more often. I picked up Balrog in HDR/ST actually because of his tools to deal with shotos. I carried him over to SF4 when it came out and just really like how he has a lot of offensive mixups but with a lot of solid defensive tools. I've messed around with other characters in SF4 but just keep going back to the Rog, although I don't really play with him in HDR anymore.

I also really like playing Honda in ST/HDR and would LOVE to see him get some beefs in SSF4.

----
On a side note, I put an Octo-gate in my SE over the weekend since I have a second stick now. It made a HUGE difference for QCF characters (I tend to ride the gates). Surprisingly I still had no problems doing headbutt -> ultra with Balrog either, but I did find the overhead/low rush a little tricky. Still not sure if I wanna switch my TE over as well or keep a square gate in it. I guess I'll have to fuck around with it some more.

I did almost every Normal 3rd Trial for all characters in SF4 today. I cannot for the life of me get a break with El Fuerte, Rufus, Gouken and Fei Long. El Fuerte's last that move there seems to boggle my mind on how I'm supposed to do it. I read I'm supposed to get all the inputs out before the first hit. How is that even possible? Fei Long...why do I need to do the triple Rekkaken 4 times throughout his trials? Is that the only move Fei Long has?

Everyone else's trials just seem to fall into place. Those 4 just have something...not so right about them that's very frustrating.

I honestly don't know why I main the characters I do. In SFIV, Vega was the only character that "clicked" with me, so I stuck with him. It wasn't until a couple of months after I really learned to use him that I found out where he was tier-wise.

I've never been a huge tier-whore, ever. I just use who I feel comfy using. Whether it be Joe/Rock/Yun/Terry in CvS2, Lucario in Brawl (lol), Vega/Gouken in SFIV, Necrid in SC2, or Tony Hawk in HD Remix, it's always been about the comfort level. I rarely check tier lists, and when I do, it's only to see how good my main is.
I agree with your choice with Gouken. Make your life easier, pick someone better ;)
But I already use Veg...oh wait...:(

yea, I was completely skeptical about watching a gouken video and had a preconception that I would have seen everything already and could do it....already

my god that was an amazing friggin video. absolutely the coolest shit I've seen on a SF4 video.....ever.

if you ever want to get good with fei long, you will learn to love that move (rekkaken) and will constantly use it to zone the character or punish missed hits. you said you're stuck on the normal trials, not the hard ones? ive done all the trials multiple times. If you explain the ones you're stuck on, I'll coach ya through it

Well, I've been playing Abel because I wanted to play a grapple character that wasn't quite as slow as Zangief. Lately though, I've been playing M.Bison, trying to get back into my charge character roots. Though with SSFIV coming, I might have to pick up Makoto, though I'm not even sure if she'll keep her shenanigans.

That Gouken video was pretty awesome btw.

If you haven't already checked it out Joo's collection has been up since Monday. Got a chance to watch some of it yesterday, shit is pretty bad ass. He really goes into depth on these vids explaining how it all works. If you are a Marvel player at all you owe it to yourself to start dling this.

Also Dizzy you are slacking, there is so much misinfo in the pre order thread for super.

I started playing Tekken online again, which means I started getting angry again because simple things like Asuka's white heron mixups become impossible to block. Or even stupid things like Yoshi's df+3, I can't parry, and then I have to eat the WS mixup.

Oh and I can almost never tech throws, thanks

The next KOF better be like $20. They owe all the people that paid full price for that half-assed roster and horrible netcode. (I'm one of the suckers who paid in full.)
