Exactly. I hope shit keeps advancing in ways that annoy him. Hopefully by next gen he'll wise up and quit gaming (or go Retro only) and we won't have to read his non-sense over and over and over....
As long as the game is good, who cares?
Good games are useless if they arent in genres or styles you are care about. I'm sure there are some sports series and racing games which are fantastic games, but that doesnt mean anything if you dont like the genre.
DMK just wants all innovations to cease and for everything to be stuck in a 1990's time warp.
The Tales series and Tri-Ace were abhorring it up even then. Plus, I'm all for innovations that start with the controls.

I've been playing more and more Disgaea. I've almost clocked in 14 hours or so. I've grinded my characters (all 6 of them ) to be at least 10 and my highest (Lahral) is just about 20. Either way, I'm enjoying the game more now that I'm not so concerned with grinding.

you forget about portable gaming, dmaul. That will still cater to me for quite some time.

Easier to play while sitting at the computer, It might be even easier in the future to sit here and complain about next-gen.

If it didnt carry the Fallout name, I wouldnt care at all. I could just dismiss it as another shooter. It just bothers me to see old franchises getting disserviced in this way.

Shooters, and multiplayer action (in the case of RPGs), are infecting everything. Every RPG dev wants to be Tri-Ace now. Its mostly team based action-rpg, with Square-Enix leading the charge. Pure turn based is vanishing at a frightening speed.
I would prefer a turn based Fallout game, if it was 2D and had come out 7 years ago.

As it stands, Black Isle does not exist anymore and some people can accept that, others can't. Fallout 3 absolutely nails the Fallout atmosphere and universe. It's a great game. Not AS great as the old Fallout games were back then, but it'd be almost impossible for it to be with that old team gone. For good. I'm happy with what it is, because I get to be in that universe again and I get to kill radscorpions, and use Nuka-Cola, and make smartass replies.

VATS is what Fallout would be if it wasn't turn based. Things change, DMK. I would say that something along the lines of Valkyria Chronicles would probably be better, but the way things are with Fallout 3 are just fine. The game really does remind me of what I pictured the turn based battles playing out like when I played those games 10 years ago.

Crippling an enemy's leg so you can back away from them with enough AP left to attack without being attacked is just as valid an option here, except it's movement speed, not movement due to AP. Same goes with attacking limbs to remove weapons or again, attacking legs to catch up to someone who's running.

Fallout 3 is done better than anyone else in the industry could have done a sequel to Fallout in 2008, and still recieved a huge budget to do it with.

fucking people drive me nuts. Of course you're going to dislike the game when you go in "dismissing it as another shooter" and expecting turn based. We've known for over a year it isn't going to be turn based!

Sick water effects, Wii!

In the early days, before people could see it in action, VATS was originally advertised as being a second way to play the game - Two different play styles contained within the same game. I was following it and was paranoid about how you could even have two distinct systems, why you would want to, and what system the game was really designed around.

So, the only reason you follow it, is to bitch about it. Seeing as how you will never play Fallout 3.

VATS never advertised tying movement to AP, it was always a targeting mechanism. Using movement based points never really works well in 3D either, because it's hard to quantify how the numbers mean anything, unless you stay hex-based, which could maybe work, but cut your sales in half.

Fallout 1 and 2 will always exist and they're both long enough that I could play them every couple years and be happy. I'm glad to have something new with the Fallout setting.

That Wii Bond shot is hilarious. Must be using some slick Quake engine stuff there on that water.

We'll see. Portables will probably be fully 3D next generation, and feature a lot of online play. Possibly could even be download only games. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for those innovations. ;)

VATS shooting is the +1 AP targeted shooting from fallout, regular shooting is representative of the other actions you would take. I'm happy with it. Sorry you're missing out on the next Fallout RPG.

People tend to forget that the old Fallout didn't even have an overworld, it was just a map you clicked on different locations to, and got random encounters on. How do you expect a turn based system to work on world the size of Fallout 3's?

FFXIII and FFXIII Versus aren't going to have turn based combat? Didn't XII have an option to make combat more like the old school turn based, maybe active time, battles?

I follow all sorts of games, even those on platforms I may never own. You have to, someday those systems may have enough relevant software to be worth owning (late cycle PSP). I'm glad I followed Valkyria Chronicles, which looks to be largely a good game, despite some unorthodox conventions.

I'll definitely play Fallout 3 on the PC at some point, in the same way that I may play Persona 3 someday. In regards to Fallout in particular, I'd want to see if the fans produce any worthwhile mods. Oblivion wouldve been nearly unplayable without the btmod to fix the user interface to more of a PC style rather than a console style.
Huh? Where do you live? I'm going to miss not having snow days anymore. I think waking up and not getting ready, just praying that the news channel will give you good news, and finally seeing your school listed is one of the best feelings in the world.
PA.

I finished the Halo 2 campaign and popped in GTA IV. Just now killed
Playboy.

Lost Odyssey came out after XII and had turn based combat (and was actually good!).

To be fair, I've never liked ATB. Depending on the game, you can either pause it to stop the action or go into a submenu where ATB is stopped. That may have been the beginning of the destruction of pure turn based.

Played a bunch more P3: FES Answer today and wanted to just file another complaint about taking out the socializing aspects. Its just a dungeon grind now.

I also put a little more time into Castlevania OoE. Maybe its just me not playing a Castlevania game in awhile, but this one seems like the difficulty has been ramped up some. I hardly remember dying much in DoS.

And I played more Ass's Creed. Just running around the first big city and doing all the "rescue citizens" and stuff like that. Seems fun right now, but I can understand some of the complaints I've read about it from others saying it can get repetitive. But its still new and fun for me, so we'll see as I continue playing more.

On the surface, Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns. The interface for the most part is, but damn is the rest of the game everything Oblivion isn't. Anyway, fun game.
Who here is Nirran on XBL?

Btw I send friend requests to most of the ggters.
lol sorry that is I. Sent out some friend invites from here and didn't see an area to say who I was so sorry if you got confused. My friend list is kinda dead since I haven't been on in awhile but with gears 2 and using gamefly I'll be on a lot more so sent invites to everyone in the ggt that I saw and didn't have added.
I've always wanted a blue patterned carpet.
If nobody had said that that was water, I sure as hell would've thought it was carpet. I'll never say anything bad about Conduit's slightly-too-fast-moving water again.
Same here, show yourself Nirran.
*shows self* lol sorry added a lot of people before and haven't been on much but with gears 2 coming out and using gamefly I'll be on a lot more and my friend list was kinda empty because of never being on before.
Don't remind me that 30 Rock is already on Hulu. Its a no go for Canada.
Lessee...30 Rock, Gym, 30 Rock, Piano Lesson, 30 Rock, sleep.
Good day!
Oh...

Canadia...

:whistle2:?

I await the release of Dongslayer!!!

Hey GGT. Got a new laptop and am setting it up now. P7350, 9600m GT, 4gb ram, 320gb. Pretty sweet stuff. It should be able to run new stuff decently at low/med and 1280x800

I'm borrowing Fallout from a friend to see how well it runs on my computer. If it runs well, I'll probably pick it up. If not, I'll wait for a sale on the console versions.

I need to upgrade my computer, but I'm not sure if I just want to put some new parts in this or just say fuck it and buy a lappy once I get a job. It wouldn't take me too long to save up for a Macbook Pro methinks.

Edit: I need to upgrade because my hardware is shit now that I'm on vista. Runs slower than on XP, and freezes way the fuck too much.

Vista likes good hardware and plenty of RAM for sure. If you have that, it's fine. XP is just faster because it came out in 2001. ;) It doesn't require much.

I just finally ordered more RAM so i could join the 4 GB club now. :)

Are you then suggesting that Fallout is the sci fi/post apocalyptic version of Oblivion? I know nothing of the Fallout series, but if it's anything like I'm assuming from your post, then I may have to really look in to this game.

No. It is a great game, with Oblivion's interface.
I thought Fallout 3 looked awesome, but the more I hear it being called "Oblivion with guns" the more I want to stay away.
That is a bit of a misnomer. Fallout is a great game. Oblivion is terrible. See the difference?
Played a bunch more P3: FES Answer today and wanted to just file another complaint about taking out the socializing aspects. Its just a dungeon grind now.
Yeah, that was one of my complaints about The Answer. My other was the fact you couldn't choose a difficulty level.

I also put a little more time into Castlevania OoE. Maybe its just me not playing a Castlevania game in awhile, but this one seems like the difficulty has been ramped up some. I hardly remember dying much in DoS.
It's not you, OoE is actually harder then the other DS Castlevania games
No. It is a great game, with Oblivion's interface.

So it's like an open world where you customize what you look like, wear, and wield as a weapon?
That is a bit of a misnomer. Fallout is a great game. Oblivion is terrible. See the difference?
I think you have that backwards, sir.
It's not you, OoE is actually harder then the other DS Castlevania games
No.

(a) I beat the last boss for the bad ending, which isn't really an ending, at like level 25.
(b) I'm unsure how much game is actually left (though I'd wager, not much) as I'm too busy grinding out kills of specific monsters on these fucking scavenger hunts to actually have a new area open.

Man, I can't pick up Fallout 3 until Friday, and then Friday night I'm going to a party so I won't get to play it until Saturday.

Life=hard.

Finally making GTA progress FTW!!!

Ah, it's all so clear now. Thanks for clearing that up! :D

Yes, it just isn't boring and eat cock like Oblivion.
