But uhhh.... it's not a brand new system. It's a PSP and will always be able to play the same games from the PSN store as every other PSP.
Yeah thats why I said "I suppose there will always be downloadable games going to the PSN, so there will always be games coming out for it."

Seems a bit pointless, now if they bring out a Zune that can pay XBLA games and give me cheesemints, day 1 purchase :D

Ended up ordering Halo ODST last night since its very rare to get a new game that cheap lol. Not sure what I'm gonna use the $10 on yet. Can you use it on preexisting preorders?

I liken it to my beloved GB Micro.

---

Got Katamari Forever.
Apparently it's the ULTIMATE KATAMARI GAME! 30+ levels.

Got two of those Katamari toys from Gamestop that are supposed to light up when you get a text message.
They must intercept phone data noise because vibration doesn't make them light up, but I've seen them randomly light up when sitting near my lady friend's phone.

How much is Katamari Forever? And why should I spend that amount of money when I could go to my local Wal-Mart and get the original for $10? I should go back and see if they still have it...

Played some more Infamous. Got to the 3rd island.
Why is the second island harder?
I got all the Stunts, and need only 39 more shards and 3 more Dead Drops for 100% collectibles. Then I just need to work on the getting all the side-missions done :\

Yeah

KingBroly: It's $50 bucks and I don't know why you should spend it.

Yep. I used it on Brutal Legend, which you also get a $10 credit for. Let it ride!

Why should you buy a new game vs an old one?

Got Katamari for $32 off Amazon.
2xECA, + Kata coupon

Just wish I did it when it was in my GB. Could have taken another $2.50 off.

I went back to playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma since I'm super stoked for Sigma 2.

Oddly enough, as far as I can tell the game runs better without it being installed.
Is anyone seriously thinking about getting a PSP Go ?

Seems to me like it's dead before it even gets started, reasons being

1) Games are going to be the same or more as retail disks
2) Doesn't seem to be much support for current PSP owners with UMD disc libraries
3) Retailers seem reluctant to stock it, or advertise it much instore
4) It's $250

Seems like there's a real risk you'll be dropping $250 on a console thats in danger of dying pretty quickly.
I basically explained everything in a post in the PSP forum. Sony or MS just can't undercut retailers with game pricing, because if they do, they basically become the retailers biggest competitor (because if people could buy games cheaper as a download, that leaves retailers with more unsold stock they can't get rid of unless they lower the price and take a hit). Its why Xbox 360 retail games, PS Video Store, PSP UMD game downloads, and PS3 retail game downloads are usually the same, if not more than retail. If a game was never sold in retail, then its a lot easier to price it cheaper since retailers will never see the game.

The issue with supporting older owners is someone will try to find a way to cheat the system. If Sony offerred free downloads to them who ship their UMD games in, some could buy a ton of cheap used games at GameStop (possibly cheaper than download) and downloads just wouldn't sell. If people used UPC codes or something, people could get a download copy and trade it their UMD. Oh course Sony is never going to allow people to rip UMDs because if they did, people would probably rip the game and sell it. It's just too difficult finding a way to appeal to people.

And oh course some retailers aren't going to stock it, since retailers make money from selling games. One reason for the higher PSP pricetag is so retailers can get a higher profit margin, making them more willing to sell it. TVs and many other electronic devices are marked up at retailer pretty high just so the retailer gets a good cut. Most gaming hardware only makes a retailer $5-$15 or so. Selling games as download cheaper than retail (which isn't completely happening though) would make retailers even more reluctant to sell the thing because if people were buying downloads instead of their retail games, then the retailer doesn't get all that much money back.

Its priced at $250 for the reasons I mentioned, and for two other main reasons. There's no way Sony is going to take a loss on two gaming hardware platforms right now, especially since the entire company has been losing money for a while. They are trying to find ways to make some money because PS2 hardware sales just aren't there anymore, and regular PSP hardware sales are down a bit (which also made them some profit). Also, the PSP Go is basically a test (one reason its not cheap). If it doesn't succeed, that's fine, they still made money on everyone they sold. If it succeeds, then great, Sony will start pushing for DD more. But the biggest reason for the test is to see what Sony should do with the next PSP and PS4. If DD is doing well with it, then Sony knows they could go DD only next gen for their platforms. If not, they'll probably stick to physical media another generation. If Sony never tested the PSP Go and went straight to DD for their next platform (spending all that R&D cost), that could be a bigger financial disaster. And if they just went ahead with physical media regardless without truly testing DD only, that could keep them in the same issue with retailers and such even longer, along with other inconveniences.

Yes, I do plan to buy a PSP Go (although I have two PSPs right now). I will not get it on release, but within the month of October for sure. Why do I want one? I do want a smaller PSP, and there's no denying I don't really like UMDs. I love PSP games, but UMDs are annoying. You can't take many games when traveling with you, and hearing the UMD spin gets annoying. I just love having demos and downloadable PSN games on my PSP memory stick, which is why I tend to play them a lot. Having 16GB built in is also nice. That's one reason I don't feel the price is bad, because by the time you buy a 16GB memory stick, the prices between the PSP handhelds are almost the same. Also, having bluetooth so I can use my headset is a huge plus.

Oh yeah, a few things:

I need to preorder Uncharted 2, but not sure where I should do it yet. Part of me is leaning towards GameStop just because I'm use to preordering from them. Part of me is leaning towards Best Buy so I can get $10 off of a game, but I'm not too familiar with their process.

I am very close to buying Fate/Unlimited Codes for PSP/PSN. I do like Anime/Fighters, and I've heard some good things. While $30 might be $10 more than I want to pay, I dunno, I'm tempted to buy it (one reason I added another $20 to my PSN wallet).

I think I may also preorder NG Sigma 2. I really want to play co-op with a few friends of mine who want me to play with them. I was hoping for a deal, but I might just go ahead and pay full price.

I really wish I could fit in more time for games on weekdays, but its like I come home from work, have to cook, eat, drive around to run some errands, do laundry, etc. By the time I finish, its like I have an hour or two until bed time. Sometimes I get more time on the weekends, but many times I'm either working (for extra money) or going to a mall.

Anyone else occassionally have issues finding time to game because of work and other real life priorities?

So... is the new Ratchet game a full priced new Ratchet title? Or is it like that pirate bay DLC one? There has been so much coverage around it. I wish I liked Ratchet games... =(
I wish I enjoyed Uncharted...
I enjoy both series a LOT. Both are my two most wanted games this year (after I bought Dissidia).

I just found out that the recent SingStar update now shows what music you are singing to under your PSN name while playing. I noticed because Eviltude sent me a message about singing Vanilla Ice (since it was under my name).

Definitely. On weekdays, after running errands, doing homework, cleaning house, sometimes working, I'm lucky to have an hour or two to sit down and play a game. On weekends, I'm almost always doing stuff with my friends, so there's very little time there.
If Sony offerred free downloads to them who ship their UMD games in, some could buy a ton of cheap used games at GameStop (possibly cheaper than download) and downloads just wouldn't sell.
All they'd have to do is set a time limit on it, like one month, and after that the program would end. Yes people could send in cheap, used games from Gamestop but wouldn't get any new games coming out which is probably far more important than someone sending in a $10 copy of Ridge Racer.

I'm so tempted to get the Go, but Sony really needs to announce something like that, some way for me to at least get some of my UMD games on it before I'll actually get one.

I've been planning to keep my old PSP just to play a few imports I own. So I would be bothered if I couldn't transfer any of them to a PSPGo.
Also prices on DD need to come down. Not spending the same price for an inferior version of a product.
That won't happen as long as retailers have power.
Definitely. On weekdays, after running errands, doing homework, cleaning house, sometimes working, I'm lucky to have an hour or two to sit down and play a game. On weekends, I'm almost always doing stuff with my friends, so there's very little time there.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't have many friends yet where I live now, since only a few I know from college, cousin, and some from work are around me (although pretty much everyone is busy). I have met up with a few I've talked to on AIM for a while and did stuff with them (mall, theme park, etc.). But I tend to spend that time on weekends working, since I feel I might as well sometimes.

It's nice having the money to buy games again, but sucks about time (I'll probably buy 16 more games the rest of the year).

It can also be a bit hard to play a console game right now, since I either have to sit on the floor or a lawn chair (no sofa). It's a big easier to play PSP because I can lay down in bed, lol.
I'm so tempted to get the Go, but Sony really needs to announce something like that, some way for me to at least get some of my UMD games on it before I'll actually get one.
It seems that some publishers are launching games right when it comes out, and some (like NIS) plan 50% off the first week. I definitely know I'm buying Prinny that way. Wish I waited to buy Mana Khemia: SA the same way.

So GGT, what is everyone else looking at for the rest of the year? I've seen those discussions, but I wasn't around to mention what I will get. So far I'm looking at:
1. Uncharted 2 :ps3:
2. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time :ps3:
3. Tekken 6 :ps3:
4. MotorStorm: Arctic Edge :psp:
5. LittleBigPlanet :psp:
6. Jak & Daxter: Lost Frontier :psp:
7. Demon Soul's :ps3:
8. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 :ps3:
9. Gran Turismo :psp:
10. God of War Collection :ps3:
11. Sky Crawlers :wii:
12. Half-Minute Hero :psp:
13. Buzz! Quiz World :ps3:
14. Forza 3 :360:
15. Tekken 6 :psp:

I saw that.

I'm sort of tempted to get Disgaea, Prinny, and maybe Mana Khemia. I've wanted Disgaea since it came out but never got around to it :p

BTW, how much memory does the Go have?

Oh yeah, I really do want the game Gundam Senki. While it may be expensive, I may just buy it. I'm hoping an import store near me gets it in, but we'll see. If not, I might try Play-Asia. I'd like to get the cheaper Asia version, but it doesn't ship for quite a while.

Speaking of Gundam I am looking for Gundam wallscrolls to hang up in my apartment.

What the hell, "Square Enix Members" is actually giving things away? Anyone who owns Dissidia, go get your free postcards and flyers.

Edit: Oh, I see CAG's essayist is back.

fuck yes, Sony Conference starts in an hour. Hopefully we got some new info.

Off topic: My college was closed down today cause it might burn down. California wild fires are insane right now... fire is approaching my school and every firefighter in the area is making a stand. Epic.
fuck yes, Sony Conference starts in an hour. Hopefully we got some new info.
It's a keynote. I barely expect really anything to come out of it, just like 2007, 2006, etc.

Eh, kind of sucks I'm back into buying a little too many games. I need to buy other stuff such as a new PC, smaller HDTV for my bedroom, 75000 mile vehicle tune-up, etc.

I don't know how many Missions I have left in Infamous (I'm guessing 3-4, not including Side Missions) but I cannot figure out how I'm going to get roughly 5500 XP for the final power. Someone want to tell me if I'll make it or not? Or will I have to spend a couple of hours grinding XP?

Not many purchases for me for the remainder of the year. I'm going to finish the games I already have.

:ps3:Uncharted 2
:ps3:God of War Collection
:ps3: COD:MW2(maybe)
Oh yeah I forgot about that. Add

Lets see I'll be getting

:ps3: Demons Soul's, Gundam Senki
:psp: Persona, Prinny
:ds: Kingdom Hearts

I might get MW2, Brutal Legend and a few other PSP games(NIS is having that sale on PSN next week so I'll see what they have).
realize that the real sony presser is 3 hours later with actual games.
Oh really? Is that true? Then what the heck is this?

And... It's over (Except for the discussion thing).

- PS3 Slim sold 1 million units.
- Playstation Motion Controller releases Spring 2010

The rest of the keynote could be summed up in the first panel of this PA strip from 2007:

Rest of the year:

DS

Cooking Mama 3
Nostalgia

360

Lips #1 Hits

PS3

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Uncharted 2
Tekken 6
Alpha Protocol
God of War Collection
Dragon Age Origins
Assassin's Creed 2
Saboteur

Probably getting

Borderlands
Uncharted2
Brutal Legend
Persona 3 Portable (if it works on CFW, same for Motorstorm:Arctic)
Modern Warfare 2
Assassin's Creed 2
Perfect Dark XBLA
Forza 3 (maybe, probably not)

Probably some others I'm not thinking of, but those are at the top of my mind.

Firefight on ODST is really fun - I played with a few GAFers tonight and had a great time.

The PSP Go makes no sense because it's $50 dollars cheaper than a PS3, and more expensive than some 360 models. And downloading games on a portable is stupid. And it looks really uncomfortable to use from videos I've seen. There's nothing wrong with the current PSP model. I might actually have to buy a slim PSP if the HAXORZ don't keep up with Sony's firmware pretty soon, so I can keep one for emulators and playing games from memory stick, and one for real games.
