That's a silly statement.
Bayonetta can be beat by mashing square/x (or whatever the punch button is). This won't work if you want to do the Alfheims or get a good ranking, but if you just want to beat the game, this will work. Dodge, mash punch, get hit, mash punch. I know, I did it when I orginally played on 360.
That said, I understand what you meant, I just wanted to give you a hard time.

In terms of variety, I'd guess your assumption would be correct and it would be more like a DW game than any of the staple action games.
Dare I ask... what did you have equipped when you played? Did you grind to get some of the more godlike accessories and blow through it by mashing? If so, then yea, I could see that being done, just not on the higher difficulties. Same shit for DMC, you could mash if you want, but it's certainly not encouraged on the higher difficulties if you plan to beat the game.
As with most musou games you can just mash if you want, but more moves are there if you want to use them. The only thing with FotNS that's different from say Dynasty Warriors is that it takes a lot longer for the move list to open up. Especially for Kenshiro.
Hmm... I mean... for $10, it might be fun just to mindlessly beat the shit out of people. Imma try the demo again and let that be my final judgement.
