Hey, my gf's little sister is in love with Fable 2 and her mom likes to watch her play. But she finished it twice now and wants a different game. Could someone help me figure something out? She likes the companion (dog), the quests (like getting a quest and finding where to go), something that they can work together on (like the mom help her figure out quests ect.).

I was going to say Zelda, but they don't have a Wii. So PS3 or 360...

I know it's probably useless asking here... but some help would be appreciated.
Hm, quests, companion dogs...Fallout 3!!!

No?

Dead to Rights Retribution?
How old is your gf's sister?
14. Although shes mature and plays violent games.

Was thinking of that, but it may be too complicated. And I don't think the Companion is that important, I think they just think it is.

I was thinking RDR, Mass Effect or something... not many games like Fable on consoles this gen.
Anyone get Singularity?

Reviews seem generally positive and 20.00 credit from Amazon + free Prototype isn't bad.
I was tempted but I'm not sure I need another FPS at the mo. I already have Prototype and I suspect the game will drop to $40 fairly quickly.

Played through the first couple of chapters of Alan Wake, game is awesome.
Torchlight has both a dog and quests. PC requirements arent too high.
Combat is drastically different, but this is actually a great recommendation.

Fable 2 is kind of like Zelda, a little bit -- Darksiders is a great Zelda style clone, but there's no quest structure or companion (I'm just thinking base gameplay here). 3D Dot Game Heroes is also similar to Zelda... they tell you what you're looking for and give you the general direction, but no actual quest structure...

Mass Effect would be just as complicated as Fallout 3, maybe moreso.

RDR/GTA4 have the mission structure you're looking for and the sort of open world, but the combat is radically different... and I'm not sure you'd get the stop and talk to people about quests interactions like in Fable/Zelda/Mass Effect.

It was fun... it's a shame the graphics were subpar... it felt like I was playing max payne 1 or 2 on the 360 with flashlight time instead of bullet time. :\

Go see if Singularity is cool.

Thanks mang.

What about Oblivion? Or a JRPG?

Bear, what about Tales of Vesperia? It has a playable doggie character? Plus the game is pretty to look at, and it has a storyline so that could keep both the sister and mom interested. Also, i hate that I'm going to suggest this but Dragon Age has the payable War Dog as well, and most people (besides me) like it.

As much as I love Dragon Age (even more than Mass Effect), I'd say that it isn't the best game for a 14 year old. It's very dialogue/story heavy, equipment management is complicated, and the combat is somewhat difficult compared to something like Fable 2.

Tales of Vesperia, though, is actually the game I had in mind when I suggested a JRPG. I think it's perfect for someone her age, so count this as a second vote for ToV.

I'll third ToV, while the game structure is a little different than Fable II; I could see someone who enjoys Fable liking Tales of Vesperia's combat. Plus if the mom ever got a mysterious urge to jump in and learn to play Tales of Vesperia is also multi-player during combat. The only problem would be if she doesn't like anime...

Sweet suggestions, I lent her Mass Effect and she's liking it so far. And I like the idea of ToV, also Darksiders seems like a possibility.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am seriously so suprised at how great Gamestop's service has been lately. I got Lego Harry Potter CE from their website, it shipped yesterday and got to my house today. Awesome considering I didn't pay for shipping.

I have no idea. The demo revealed that Lego Harry Potter, like all the other Lego "X" games, is a $20 affair that will reach its appropriate price point in 4-5 months.

The opposite is something like Assassin's Creed 2. I got it for ~25 from Walmart a couple weeks ago and I feel like I've fucking stolen from them.

Agreed, I was amazed when I ordered Sin and Punishment: Star Successor last Friday and it arrived today; it is nice to have 3 day free shipping that is actually 3 days. Also, relating to S&P2 I'm amazed that the Poster is in alright condition because the game and poster were in a padded envelope with nothing rigid to keep it from being bent, and I've gotten some scarcely damaged packages before.
! Theres gotta be a bunch of those hiding around. No one bought that thing.
I bought the game (along with many other CAGs during the cheap Amazon deal) and absolutely love it. No way it's ever leaving my PS3 collection.
Yeah, don't waste your time with KZ2.
Killzone 2 is a pretty good game, and this is coming from someone who isn't a big FPS fan. It's worth playing alone for the awesome graphics.

Crap, another light gaming day for me. Only played Soldner-X2, since I went mountain biking with co-workers after work.

I'm waiting on Trinity Universe and Hot Shots Tennis: GaG to ship from Amazon.

All of the characters in Lost Planet are a bunch of whiny fucks.

I would rather have 1-dimensional Gears characters over these terrible character designs.

It's been mentioned numerous times, but all kotaku cares about is hits. They don't give shit what they write as long as you click stuff.

I unlocked a few of the extra ops missions in Snake Eater, they remind me of Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions which is a great thing. I'm finally getting into a flow with the controls now - still not ideal by any means, but I can manage now.

Where's the DLC card ninja?
It's a second printing of the game, no DLC included. You can buy it (for 1200 allards) on the US marketplace though (after you play the game and browse it in your history.)

Playing some Arkham Asylum tonight. Really starting to click with me. I'm not a diehard batman fan, but this game makes you feel like the goddamn Batman. Though I think they overuse the Joker and the constant shit popping up in the HUD is annoying too...gotta look for an option to turn it off.
edit: wow, no option to turn off all the pop-ups...do I really need to be reminded to hit R1 to jump on a gargoyle that often?? Hope they fix that in 2. Small complaint though.

also got my Purple Flame Shield in Demon's Souls after pelting the red dragon with arrows for a year, only to have him fly off right before I killed him. It's like they thought of every conceivable way to make life hard for you

With Mushihime, don't you need to buy a Japanese points card in order to buy the DLC? I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure. Just want to clarify so that nobody shows up at your doorstep with a gun, threatening to blow your head off because you lied about MS points.
