Calling people out and then ignoring them is some grade school shit. You just got a SS (super smokin'!) grade from the douchebaggery patrol.
Way to take that out of context. The original post was that someone claimed the DS has a good RPG every 5 seconds, which Rei no Otaku replied that he only played two during the DS's entire lifespan, at which point SL4IN suggested he play more games. MSI Magus defended Rei's viewpoint, citing that he's already downloaded and played every RPG that's come out for it. My argument was that he would have enjoyed those games more had he not pirated them.
A large chunk of NTSC-US DS rpgs are really junk or just average.

List
I can understand Dragon Quest IV and Joker, but Final Fantasy IV and The World Ends With You? Which DS RPGs aren't junk?

Now that I'm almost done with ToV I've been think about the next new RPG. So what's the buzz on The Last Remnant? I haven't really done my homework on it but from the pics I've seen they don't exactly inspire me to play it.

Its from the Saga team.
Its UE3.

All signs point to stay away.

Why wasn't Akitoshi Kawazu fired long ago? SaGa's are pretty awful
Though I liked SaGa Frontier, because I had the guide.
Weapons do change in Eternal Sonata.
I must have forgotten about that. The last time I play it was it's release date.

I didn't meant that whole list is bad. I want to prove that Nintendo DS doesn't have as many quality rpg as people said it to be.

I like Saga frontier as well and also have the guide for it.
Seriously, who is buying the Saga games?
I am. I like (some) of the saga games , the ones that I've played at least. Saga Frontier 1 and 2 and Final Fantasy Legends 1 , 2 , and 3. I have Romancing Saga on the PS2 but haven't played it yet. Saga Frontier is probably my favorite one and I would love to see it get remade with all the missing content restored to complete the game , but I know that'll never happen. I'd also love to see the old SNES Romancing saga games get translated and released over here but that doesn't seem very likely either.

Remove a character story.
Due to time constraints, some plot points of Asellus' story were removed. During those events, Asellus was supposed to visit Dr. Nusakan's clinic, Bio Research Lab, Lambda Base, and Furdo's Workshop so that she would find her true identity so that she would decide to live as a human being or as a mystic. These quests were also intended to affect her scenario's ending.

The fact that each of the seven main characters had a unique quest certainly gives SaGa Frontier great replay value. The fact that the plots tie together at places is especially cool, as it gives a sense of an overarching plot that encompasses all seven quests. Unfortunately, the game feels unfinished and unpolished in places. In fact, there was a planned eighth main character, Fuse, whose story would have helped tie the various plot threads together. Sadly, this was cut due to time restraints, and he merely appears as a minor character in the game. Combine this with a rather shoddy English translation, and you have a game that is somewhat difficult to fully grasp the overall plot.

What's missing from SF1?
Quite a bit actually. I can't remember offhand everything that was taken out of the game but the plot guide on gameFAQs mentions most everything that was removed.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/game/198537.html

What I do remember was that originally Fuse was also gonna be a fully fledged main character (bringing the roster up to 8). The side quest involving fuse (shield card quest if I remember correctly) was gonna be fully fleshed out for his story. Lots of other side quest areas like the Shrike Bio lab were gonna be connected to characters stories.

If you've ever used a gameshark on the game and used the region map code , you'd see there were a lot of regions that were unused in the game. Originally everyone at some point would've gotten the region map , thus making a lot of those unused regions serve a purpose. Lots of other things.

If you liked Saga Frontier at all , reading the plot guide is really informative about how much more indepth the final game was going to be.

Edit: Damn , beat me to it.:bomb:

Has anyone tried The World Revolves Around Me (not to be confused with The World Ends With You)? In this game, you play a selfish princess who gets snubbed by a lvl 99 adventurer, and so you go on an adventure of your own to show him you're not just a spoiled brat. I'd play it despite it looking like a girly girl game.

^ Sounds like an interesting/unique premise. The chick on the cover looks like Princess Peach. It does look very girly, which is a huge turn off.

another Saga Frontier fan here. Also Romancing saga 3 got a fan translation and is worth checking out. The FF legends games are good too.

I like SaGa Frontier II and Romancing SaGa despite their glaring faults.

The original SaGa Frontier is pretty good too.

The series is a little painful to play, which is why I've never finished one of the entries.

Perhaps if the designer simplified the combat/equipment/status development and focused on the non-linear exploration and story progression the series could be wholly successful.
For Lost Odyssey, their are some slight changes in appearance. If I recall, they have some minor changes when your equipping accessories such as Elton John sunglasses.

For Eternal Sonata, I don't recall any changes with different weapons/armor. The Tales series is well known for their individual class titles which grant different looks. But Eternal Sonata doesn't have any class titles.
So so fly. You're my hero.

Does the same hold true for ToV?

Yup. Not only in battle but for cuteness as well. Also there are equipment like hat you can wear that show up in and out of battle. There are also different costumes too.

I loved the original SaGa Frontier. I played some of the first one, but didn't enjoy it nearly as much, and I never tried Romancing SaGa. It'd be awesome if they remade or released the original with all the things they took out of it.

Sounds interesting, I'd definitely pick it up if it were localized.

That's it. I'm buying Tales of Vesperia.

I haven't played too many games in the SaGa series but I gave Frontier, Frontier II & Unlimited a chance. And boy, did they suck.

When I was a kid I did have FF: Legends III for the GB. But I don't remember much about it other than I never beat it.

The only SaGa games I played were FF:Legends II and III on the GB. I never beat FF:L II, but III was great. I loved the whole time-travel aspect, and the airship was the coolest. Probably my favorite RPG for the old b&w Gameboy.

I liked Frontier, liked the fan translation for RS3, liked FFL2, liked RS1 for the PS2. Disliked USaga and its randomness.

My biggest problem with them is that they have a high learning curve. Once you figure them out, they're really fun, but if you haven't figured them out... it gets really confusing and you get lost really easily and battles are much harder than they should be. They are definitely games that need strategy guides.

I can most definatly agree with this. The first time I played Saga Frontier I was totally lost as to what I was doing (it didn't help that I started with one of the most non-linear characters in the game , Blue). Later I picked a strategy guide up for it and eventually picked the game up on clearance at KB*Toys. After that I learned the tricks of the game and enjoyed it a whole lot more.

Aw, I'm a little over half way through the game (I think), and I haven't even tried any of that stuff yet. >_

Just beat Tales of Vesperia. The best RPG I played since Persona 3. It's got a lot of replay value but I'm burnt out, I need an action game to fire up these ol' bones.

The name makes me laugh, it's like "Strong Adventure: Seasoned Killer"... Whoever named the game put very little effort. How is the translation?
The name makes me laugh, it's like "Strong Adventure: Seasoned Killer"... Whoever named the game put very little effort. How is the translation?
The game is actually based on a Japanese novel (Brave Story) wherein a boy is transported to a fantasy world (wherein he is referred to as a Traveler). So it makes sense. I don't imagine much effort was made with the name though, considering most of it was already defined.

Of course, having said that I'm sure you already knew all of that, so I'll just chuckle at the 'Strong Adventure: Seasoned Killer' bit and wait for others to chime in some more.
I know you're just being snarky
:D

The novel is excellent, btw. Their is also a Gonzo-produced anime that came out a year or so ago that I really enjoyed.

I got the novel too. Btw Alexander O Smith did the translation for the novel, known for the translation on Phoenix Wright and many Square Enix games.
How long does a normal run of ToV take?
50-60 hours if you want to do most of the side quest
Do it. Its the best JRPG this generation.
Even though it is a good game, that's not really saying much.

The game does reuse a lot of stuff from Abyss and even Symphonia

So is this the last year of the PS2 RPG? After Persona 4 and Ar Tonelico 2, I don't see anything coming next year (unless you count Marvel UA 2).

Yeah, it's basically Abyss with HD graphics, less loading and less slowdown right? I want to play it, but not until I finish Abyss and Symphonia (I'm about halfway through both).
