I think I've about had it with movies from Amazon. The last dvd order I made was a TV box set. It took 3 tries to get a set that the cases were not busted, discs scratched, etc. The 3rd one I had to take a good disc and a good case (or the least damaged) from the 2nd set to make a good set.
I know it's more than likely the mail system, but the first shipment was in a box and packed well. That had to have been damaged before shipping.
I had the same issues a number of months back when TDK was out and they were running a sale on Batman animated DVD's. I had a couple of seasons I ordered get scratched up in shipment, and I had to go through two additional sets on one of them to get it all resolved. They were very hesitant to send out the third set, and if they said there was an issue with the third set, all they'd do is consider them defective and refund my money.
I order quite a bit through Amazon and for the most part, I don't have any issues. Occasionally I do, and most of the time, it's not an issue to get it resolved. Sorry you had a bad issue with them.
I got my $9.99 copy today. I have to say that this was the WORST shipping I have ever got from Amazon. My stuff has always been sent in a cardboard mailer of some-sorts but this was in a plain bubble mailer and the box art (slip-cover/case) looks like it has been through a war. I guess I cant really complain since it was only $9.99 but I am disappointed with the shipping (especially since I paid for Prime).

Make them exchange it. They play favorites with Prime members (at least I've always gotten preferential treatment). There should be no reason they won't take care of you. Especially due to the condition of your item.
I agree with the above, NJMane. If it looks like crap, you get them to replace it at their cost. You shouldn't suffer with sub-standard product because it was discounted. It's a shipping issue on their side, and they should fix it, becauase it's an issue.
My Ghostbusters and Dr. Strangelove came in a box, while my copy of Benjamin Button, ordered at the same time, came in a loosely-packed bubble mailer. I think anything for a single movie gets a bubble mailer, and anything more than one movie gets a box.
