Golgo 13's No Pantsu Anime & Manga Thread

I've been meaning to watch Haibane Renmei for more then a year now. It always gets good reviews and comments. Too bad I can't ever seem to find the time.
Is FMA ever gonna be released as a complete collection?
Yes. When they're absolutely sure that double/triple-dipping won't cause consumers to buy their stuff.

Funi is well known for milking FMA. I remember they delayed the LE version of the FMA movie by 2 months so people would have to buy the regular version if they wanted to watch it on dvd, meaning they would probably also double dip two months later once the LE came out.

I would bet that Funi does a complete collection with the Premium Collection OVA dvd as an exclusive, if they really want to boost it, they'll add in the FMA Movie Blu-Ray as well.

Why include the BR movie when you can sell it separately & jack up the price by 1 & a half? Or if they do include it, jack up the price by 1 & a half anyway.

If they do release it by itself, they'll do it a year after they release the Blu-ray with the $200 boxset. People who want the blu-ray now will have to suck it up and wait, or drop $200.

FMA cost me enough the first time, i'm wondering though how long it will be before other Funi series get the DBZ "remaster" treatment, cuss you know everything looks better in widescreen right? :wall:

They cropped the top and bottom of the video due to flaws in their masters, not because they *wanted* it to be in widescreen. Of course, that still doesn't forgive the saturation issues... or the content of the show.

That is a line of pure horseshit, Funi stated many of times that oh we see more that way since an extra little hair of video is seen on the sides. If such a flaw really existed in the masters then the previous dvds , which show far more picture would have exhibited it. DBZ is the guinea pig series, everytime Funimation wants to try something new they do it to that franchise first.

I was looking for some manga to read and I noticed Yotusba from the creator of Azumanga Daioh, so I'm wondering if anybody's read it and can tell me how it compares to AD?
I'll wait until the rest of the FMA volumes go on sale, since I already picked up 3 vols that were 5.99 at BB :/
You would be better off buying a set off ebay versus waiting for a sale, the value really dropped on them since those season sets came out

No, I'm serious. If you do a little searching online, you'll be able to find pictures of how bad some of their masters were, with warping and soforth, though I have no idea why they couldn't just acquire new masters from Japan. Your grand Funimation conspiracy theory is pretty silly.

YES, YES, Yotsuba is FANTASTIC! I've been reading the Japanese version since 2003 and I can't recommend it enough!

It is a fact that the Funi masters are terrible. I do not believe that had an affect on them making it widescreen though. If you look at the old dvds, the quality is alot worse than the remasters.

I'm watching Ergo Proxy right now and it is beautiful and all...but I really hope they start explaining things soon.

Using an automated program to do the re master corrected colors and blurred out defects........along with a lot of detail. The aspect ratio though was done deliberately , I remember full well the Funimation line about changing the aspect ratio so that we can see "more" of the picture, along with the comparison shots of Kami and others pointing this out. I highly suggest looking on the Funimation forums about this, or check out the gigantic Anime on Dvd thread about season 1 being released.

Oh and Kirin Lemon I take it you didn't follow the series as it was originally released? DBZ was Funi's first real franchise, while not including the eyecatches for instance isn't a big deal it was decided that since people were watching on Cartoon network oh gee we can't make them buy the same episodes they just watched, lets release it out of order. Thus why the dvd releases skipped from Freeza to Buu then back in between or why GT's second half got released before the first half, oh excuse me " lost chapters" .
Cool. I'll probably pick up some manga this weekend, so I'll keep an eye out for it.
Be careful about picking up Yotsuba. It's release has been put on an "indefinite hold" so it may never be fully released.
I'm watching Ergo Proxy right now and it is beautiful and all...but I really hope they start explaining things soon.
It's a long build up. You probably won't see any real progress until the last 5 episodes. Ergo Proxy is highly cerebral & verbose about existentialism so it can be quite a lot to wrap around one's mind. I'd say it did a better job exploring those themes than the Matrix movies (and I loved those movies... even the shitty sequels).

Yotsuba is indeed good, very good slice of life. I'm annoyed it hasn't been animated yet. :bomb:

Yeah, I was hoping to see new of it being animated, but manga's fine for now.

It's fine with me, as I'd rather be able to get some of it than none of it.

ergo proxy was intriguing at first but i didn't like it towards the end.

i will say though, possibly the best opening/ending sequences in anime. the song by monoral + the visuals are great and paranoid android to end it... nice

Speaking of opening and endings, my favorites have to be the ones in Samurai Champloo...

Intro

Ending to the very last episode, San Francisco

Hmm I wonder if I'll finish Ergo Proxy then...my wife is Asian and she gets bored easily by existential themes in anime.

One Piece remains near the top of her favorite shows.

I'm a little over half way through Monster. This is the first anime I've watched subbed. It took me about an episode to get used to the subbing, and now it's not even an issue. It has the potential to be the best anime I've seen.
or why GT's second half got released before the first half, oh excuse me " lost chapters" .
First quarter would probabably be more accurate , also to note that it was skipped on TV and on DVD. If I'm not mistaken , Funi's defense for doing this was that the first quarter of GT was "too boring" and that fans wouldn't care about the show if they started from the beginning (which I belive the ratings in japan for the first portion of GT supported that notion) , which after seeing the "lost chapters" I would completly agree with what they did.

Did they mess up or "butcher" the show because of it , I'd go and say yes. Was it for the better? Possibly. Was it all just a marketing tactic to get people to watch GT , then get them to come back to re-watch and buy the lost chapters later? I'm sure. Either way , the fact was that the move helped funi make money off of GT and ultimatly that was what mattered.

I liked Samurai Champloos intro theme , final ending theme and halfway ending them , but was never that big of a fan of its regular ending theme.
This is the best opening

One of my favorites as well.

My favorite openings:

2nd ZZ Gundam opening

Gunbuster 2

RahXephon

And of course, Evangelion

Needless to say, I love mecha.

Could you actually watch all of ZZ?
I have tried on a couple occasions and its just so bad.
Only thing I liked about it was the 1st opening because it was funny.

The first half of ZZ is garbage. It actually gets good in the second half. Mainly because Tomino came in after he got the go ahead for Char's Counterattack, and took the reins.

Awesome, I'm glad you enjoy it so much! I don't think anything has come out since Monster that's even come close to being as good.

I Can't forget Najica Blitz Tactics opening. God I love that song.

Can't forget "Justice" for Vandread the Second Stage.

Also, the classic to end all classics...
Ah, I think I made it to episode 13. Can I skip ahead in the series to the good part and not care about the rest?
Unfortunately, not really. You could probably just read a summary of the first half if you want, but you did need to know what happens.
