Goozex has a New update you can now trade your UMD,DVD,HDDVD,Blu-ray

I've been getting matched up like crazy. Bad part is I filled my 5 request spots already and there is a wide gap to reach the "20 open request" level.
Also, can anyone reccommend a good postage scale? I'd like to weigh my items and print postage out through Paypal. I assume I can do that even if the person did pay through paypal, right?
Bought this on Amazon over the weekend: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T8W8HU/ref=ox_ya_oh_product.

Can't attest to its usefulness yet, as it hasn't even shipped, but it's fulfilled through Amazon and you can get free shipping since it's $27. Seems to have good reviews.

Even a cheap food scale will work. Just round up to the next ounce to be safe.

That's what I had been using, but since moving my new job has a digital postal scale in the mail room so I just bring my games/movies in and weight them here and print the paypal shipping and stick them in the outgoing mail.
does anyone see any box sets at 100... cheapest i seen is 150 nice price but they take so much room
you're trying too hard........
if they're taking up too much room, then don't buy them.

that is why i passed on the friends box sets.. yes they are a good buy at 200 pts each but where the hell would i stick 10 sets : )

those stargate sets look tempting at 350 each.. if they had all 5 season i probally would of grabbed tehm
Yep, just basically think of the cost of the site this way:

$1 to request a game. About $3 to ship a game/DVD first class in a bubble mailer from paypal shipping (USPS first class, and including cost of a mailer bought in bulk).

So you're looking at $3-4 per game/movie you get (less depending on how you maximize points--i.e. trade high value games/movies and request low point ones gets more bang for your buck). i.e trade in a 1000 point game and get ten 100 point games/movies and you drive the cost down since you only shipped out one item to get those points.
when you ship you can save a dollar if you DON'T use goozex's system. You can log into paypal yourself and input all the info yourself and not get charged the extra buck.

CAG has a wiki on it: http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Shipping_via_your_PayPal_account

Wow. Someone actually took my Land of the Dead on HD-DVD for 200 pts. I was pretty suprised. A couple of my other HD-DVDs are first in line. That is pretty sweet. I thought I'd never get rid of these things.

I've never used Goozex's own shipping label app. Does Goozex charge $1 fee to print a shipping label, on top of the postage cost?? That's ridiculous.

I've always used Paypal to print shipping labels, and even if you didn't have a Paypal account, you could go to usps.com and pay the same price as Paypal.

Received my first two Blu Rays today. Both we're brand new, still in the shrink wrap (Quantum of Solace and The Prestige).

Only downside was it was supposed to be Casino Royale rather than Quantum of Solace--but both were on my list and Quantum is 150 points more than Casino so it's his loss, so I still left positive feedback.

Is there a big difference in the picture quality of a movie like "Superbad" between Blu-ray and standard DVD? I have it on Blu-ray but might turn it in for the 400 points and just get the regular 1 disc unrated version for 100 points. I use a PS3 as my Blu-ray player and I have a 50" 720p Sony LCD RPTV if that matters.

Blu Ray is always a big difference in PQ.

The question is do you really care about PQ on a comedy like Superbad? I don't, so I'm fine with my DVD.

I generally only buy Blu Rays now, but when it comes to upgrading a DVD to Blu Ray, it really has to be a film heavy on eye candy (great cinemetography, great special effects, etc. etc.) for me to bother with it.

But for a comedy, I'll still pick up a DVD to save the cash since I don't care how good it looks really. i.e. I grabbed The Wedding Crashers for $5 a couple months back.

Yep, that's what I always use. The estimates of price I was listing were including the price of a bubble mailer.

Those could come down a bit for me now since I just got 100 #2 bubble mailers of eBay for $25--so that's down to .25 cents an envelope vs. the $1.25 I was at before from buying a box of 25 at Staples for $20.
walmart has 5 packs for 3.88 for #2, just a heads up if you need some in a hurry.
I used the Size 0 bubble mailer from Walmart, fits a DVD/Game perfect

A couple of my DVDs don't have an insert. Do I have to list these as disc only even if they have the case? I know you would with games, but I'm not even sure if these movies came with any kind of insert (not all movies come with one). They need to add a disc+case option already.

Yeah, I just go with #2 when buying in bulk as they're a bit bigger and I can fit a small boxed set, thicker case, a few DVDs/games, etc. when the need arises.
Ugh, nobody really does get standard def. Maybe it's just my crappy movies.
I've sent out two DVDs--Interview with the Vampire and Fire in the Sky.

But yeah, being a game trading site, there will be more demand for Blu Ray since many have PS3s and/or stand alone players given the demographics of the site.

So I figure I'll have problems ditching a lot of the DVDs I listed as well.

This.

The only time I would say PQ on Blu-Rays are worse than the DVD is when they go crazy with the edge enhancement kind of stuff that makes people look plasticky. This happens on old movies especially like Patton. But other than that Superbad on Blu-Ray kills Superbad on DVD. Have both, seen both.

On another note, this new update is one of the greatest things to come to Goozex. All of the BDs I've posted got requested within a week and all of them were ones that would not have been worth posting on eBay.

I think the prices are a bit high on a lot of blu-rays myself. Prices are probably high for a lot of DVDs, as well, even at $5, as I have no trouble finding used DVDs around here for $1-2 a pop. Still, I like the idea of trading games for blu-rays, so I've requested around 20 since they added this feature, plus a few DVDs. Received about 10-12 of the blu-rays in the mail so far.

I've got a bunch of Gamestop credit left from the last Blockbuster buy-1-get-1 flip, so I've moved about $100 of that credit to Goozex by buying games at Gamestop that are in high demand on Goozex. Probably move another $100-200 in Gamestop credit to Goozex next month and turn that into a bunch of blu-rays.

I do it just as a way to get rid of the. At least I'm getting $2.50 or so worth of points out of them after shipping (postage through paypal and price of shipping) vs. having them gather dust.

Some I do just give to a friend or family member if I think it's something they'll like. But otherwise, might as well get the points if it's something I'll never watch again or upgraded to Blu-ray.

I've traded and requested a lot of blu's and dvds. The 100 point ones seem like a waste but like dmaul said it's still $2.50 towards a blu-ray that I don't have to buy once I get feedback.

So far I've received on Blu
Pineapple Express 400 points
Risky Business 300 points
Prison Break Season 3 800 points
Master and Commander 300 points
In the Line of Fire 300
Tyson 400

So far this is working better than I expected.

Unloaded about half a dozen DVDs and one HD DVD so far. Old collector's edition Full Metal Jacket got me 350 points since it's rare I guess. I've got the HD DVD so I didn't need it.

I'm not too big on the "value" of getting rid of a 100 point ($5) DVD since shipping is costing you between 2-3 dollars, but it's not like I'm going to watch them, so I may as well reduce the clutter.

I have a question for the people who use goozex a lot for games... do they update their database frequently? I have a few blu's I want to add to the site but they still list them as coming soon when they've been out for a while.

Friday the 13th (2009)
Chasing Amy (Canadian Version... it's listed on their site but as unreleased)
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Children of the Corn

All are blu-ray and are listed as coming soon despite them being available for over a month.

The way I see it, you are trading 3 random DVDs and $6 cash (postage) for a 300 point blu-ray of your choice. Probably wouldn't find a store that would do that swap. Selling common DVDs on Ebay/Half.com/Amazon nets a big 50 cents per DVD these days. I actually sell mine at my annual garage sale for $2-3 each with great success. Since I never pay more than that for a DVD, I at least break even.

I'm starting to wonder why I want discs, however, as it's more convenient to just have the movies all on an external HDD.

duckydan: The Canadian Chasing Amy blu-ray, from what I understand, is just the DVD on a blu-ray disc. Bad quality, not really an official release. The domestic release is going to include new commentary tracks and documentaries that should make it superior to the Criterion release of the DVD. It will also be an actual high-def print of the film.

I've never searched for a game and not found it--though I have very mainstream tastes so I have searched for any obscure niche games etc.

I suspect the movie database will get better over time. There are tons more things out on DVD and/or Blu-ray than there are games on the systems they support, so it's harder to be as comprehensive.

That said, I've notice some fairly big movies not coming up (like your list) so they do have some kinks to work out in getting better coverage. I'd be shocked if it didn't improve going forward.

As I own the Canadian Chasing Amy I would beg to differ. The quality is very good (although barebones with no extras) and it is an official release. The Weinstein Company sold all of their Canadian rights to Alliance Video. They also released Fanboys and a few other blus that are not available stateside as a result of the fact that the Weinsteins are failing. That said it looks and sounds very good (possibly the best it will look due to how it was shot) I just no longer want it.

Likely because a US-release is coming out in November, I believe with more features, along with Clerks.

haven't looked at the goozex forums - do they update databases based on user suggestions? Torchwood Season 2 blu isn't on there and thinking about unloading mine

atleast the things that i want... i seem to be near the back of the list. Have not been matched with anything i want for a while.

Also it so annoying when people dont confirm that they have received their item. My dc shows that this guy received this movie like 3 days ago but they still havent confirmed on goozex.

Yeah, I hadn't had problems with people not reporting feedback for a long time. Last time was when they gave 100 free points for joining, and a lot of people just signed up, requested 100 point games and never used the site again.

I'm guessing expanding to movies has brought an influx of new members who don't care or don't understand how the system works etc.

I feel for those of you still trying to raise your feedback. Mines long been high enough for unlimited offers and getting points instantly on accepting a game/movie to send out, so I don't even bother PMing the slackers and just wait for the system time out to get feedback.
