Grammy nominated King Diamond screams "Metal Heads Unite!!"
Has anyone bought Overkill's new album Ironbound? My copy is defective. All it plays is static. I've googled this and a lot of people are complaining about this problem. I can't register for their forums or read any threads there (you can't use any free email service to register/see posts, so fucking stupid) so I don't know how to resolve this issue.

Anyone else have this problem?
I do not know how to resolve this issue, but I can tell you to take all measures to do so, because this is probably their best album since Horrorscope.

That's what I've been hearing. I'm going to try to contact the label and see if they can send me a replacement copy.

I just ordered the new High on Fire on Amazon. It's only $7.98.

THe Best Buy version has 3 extra tracks. They don't add much to the album in whole but its still pretty good.

Also my Overkill CD works pretty well; I guess you got a bad cd mastering job.

I also like to mention that the new Tryptikon album is coming out soon...that's with Tom Warrior from Celtic Frost.

Is it really that good?

I was a big fan of overkill (still am) but every album I heard after horrorscope just didnt seem as good and didnt have "sound" that I grew to love in overkill.

Under the influence, years of decay (my favorite of theirs I think) and horrorscope were my absolute favorites of theirs and actually liked every song on all 3 cd's. But everything else just never had what those 3 had.

Damn. Best Buy has it for the same price too. Oh well.

Is your Overkill from Nuclear Blast or E1 Music?

Those are great albums too. But you're right, every album after Horrorscope hasn't been up to snuff with their earlier work. There's been a song or two on each album I liked, but overall I barely listen to them. I think because Bobby Gustafson left the band. I know he wasn't on Horroscope, but he was essential to those first four albums.

Did you like Feel the Fire? Blitz's vocals on the title track are amazing. I love towards the end of the song where he goes "Higher, higher, feel the fire. She burns at the stake like a witch..." He had a damn good set of pipes. Still does too.

Maybe Ill give it a try again. I came into overkill after that album and I think I heard a couple songs and it didnt jive with me, but maybe I didnt give it a fair shot. I think just the other 3 I mentioned were what defined overkill for me and they had the sound I loved.

I probablly suffered brain damage when I saw them in concert. They played near me with exodus one night.

Couple of things I wanted to say:

1. I wanted to order the new Exodus cd. Nuclear Blast is selling a limited edition version of the cd with different artwork and an extra track. Unfortunately, when I totalled out everything in the shopping cart, it costed about $19 plus change (Tax and shipping included). On amazon.com, the regular version is $13. So basically if I wanted the limited edition one, I am shelling out $7 for one extra song. Nuclear Blast is making this online only so you can't find this at a store. To me, thats bullshit!

I guess I'll go for the regular version.

2. I saw the Missing Link Festival in Oakland, CA last Saturday. Here was the lineup and my review:

Bison B.C. - I have their 2nd album and its decent but this band was boring on stage. Their sound was muddy and they had no stage prescence.

Black Cobra - This band had the same problems as Bison B.C. but their sound was cleaner which was a minor plus.

Valient Thorr - I never heard of this band but they were incredibly entertaining. All the band member look like degenerate hillbillies. Their music wasn't incredibly sophisticated but they made that up with charisma. The lead singer is pretty crazy.

Priestess - This band wears their 70's influence on their sleeve. It was nice to hear a band actually sing as oppose to growl like the first 2 bands. Also I can sense there is a lot of talent in this band. The main strike against them is that they seem to lack hooks and a killer instinct. All in all, I would say this band is fair.

Baroness - I know this band gets a lot of good press but I never gave them a chance. So after finally seeing them for the first time, I have to say that this band is something of a revelation. I can't describe them very well but I guess they are more arty than other bands. There were a lot of interesting sonic textures in their music. I suppose some people will never get into them but I was impressed.

High on Fire - I love this band and I've seen them 10 times before (they are a local band afterall). Unfortunately, this was the worst HOF concerts I have seen and its not the bands fault. The feedback was killing them almost the whole entire set. There were songs I could not distiguish at all and I know their discography really well. Its a shame.

Between the Buried and Me - This band sucked. I don't know how to describe them. Its was a cross between Frank Zappa, Evanescence and any generic emo-screamo band you can think off. Musically they were all over the place.

Mastodon - Mastodon was solid. I have one problem with the show and that is that they play most of the material from 'Crack the Skye' and saved songs from the previous albums for the encore. That's too bad because I would love to hear a little more variety. Still, they were good.

Speaking of Exodus, I've been listening to the shit out of Shovel Headed Killing Machine for some reason.

Sadly, I think it might be true unless his official site and official Facebook page were hacked.

If so then RIP thanks for your contributions to the music I love.

RIP RJD, so glad to have seen Heaven and Hell the last 3 years when they played CT......The Devil You Know was a solid record and before the illness caught him that band was tight and on top of their game. I doubt I'll be moving the way he did on stage at 66+ years old.

This year killed it.

Gorguts killed it this year, Impaled + Asphyx + Autopsy were awesome, Repulsion's lack of guitar presence in their sound ruined it for me, Incantation + Deceased for good and each did Dio covers in tribute, Nirvana 2002 were awesome, Pestilence + Pentagram were good, Entombed were decent (poor set list imo) and Obituary were Obituary.

Some my highlights were watching Autopsy rehearse the first morning of the festival before it opened, speaking with Luc Lemay of Gorguts for a good half an hour at the diner on the corner, taking a piss next to Martin Van Druunen and getting signed Autopsy/Asphyx shirts.

That's what I heard from MetalSetlists.com board. "Lack of guitar presence" in their sound? Does that mean the mix was too low or little variety?

What Dio songs did they cover? I was going to see Howl and Pentagram in a couple weeks but the show got post phoned. What didn't you like about the Entombed set? It's a shame cause they would have been one groups I would have been excited to see.

Did you catch Possessed, Watain or Sodom?

Those are definitely highlights!

Guitar was way too low in the mix, couldn't hear the rhythm parts at all. I remember hearing the leads a bit, but not easily with all the blast beating. Guitar needed a serious boost.

Incantation covered "Mod Rules" and Deceased did "Stand Up and Shout". I only caught the tail end of Incantation's, but Deceased's was awesome.

Don't know about Howl, but I would definitely recommend going to see Pentagram. They are just too good at making otherwise average, mid-paced songs so groovy.

I was excited to see Entombed, but left disappointed. Too much death'n'roll and I was not pleased with how the classics sounded. They really need a second guitarist because the sound was weak and I could clearly hear the lone guitarist playing some parts rather poorly (a couple of sections of LHP come to mind, *shudder*). All of this was painful to watch/hear, especially with Petrov drunk and pouring beer on himself, not that it affected his performance.

Sodom cancelled a couple of weeks back and I did not catch Watain. I popped out of Impaled to check out Possessed, only to find out they had already played the only song I really wanted to hear (The Exorcist). Drums were way too loud, rhythm guitar was too low in the mix and Becerra was painful to listen to (not the good kind). I went back inside after a song or so to catch the rest of Impaled's set.

I hate when mixes are off especially with black or death metal (makes them sound very muddy). Hopefully, Deceased's cover of "Stand up and shout" makes it on a tribute album or some compilation.

HOWL is pretty bad ass if you like Sludge metal, they are being touted as Relapse's "next big thing". Pentagram is my second favorite doom metal band even putting them over Saint Vitus, Cathedral, Electric Wizard, Candlemass, and Witchfinder General (first being of course Sabbath). I have been wanting to see Pentagram for about a decade, and I really hope they end up being re-scheduled for the local show so I can finally see them.

Man, that sucks they couldn't have gotten someone to play because I could imagine the old stuff would sound terrible without a second guitar. :(

Any idea why Sodom canceled? Yikes, I would have done the same since Impaled rarely disappoints live. (did Ross blow fire?)

Howl sounds like they'd me up my alley, I'll check them out. As for Sodom, I think they had visa problems. If the guy from Impaled blew fire, he did it while I was out watching Possessed, because I didn't see any.

It's amazing that Sodom is still having visa problems. You would think after being together over 25 years they would have that shit together by now before they do any tours.

Definitely recommend you check them out their latest album is called "Full of Hell". I'm seeing them with Black Cobra and my local Ohio boys "Struck By Lightning" in a couple weeks I can't wait! :applause:

Damn shame they had visa problems I know many people who wanted to go this year because of them.

Here is a pic of the fire breathing I found

I heard a few cuts of the new Howl record and I'm impressed. I read a couple of reviews...some are not glowing. Still, I like what I hear. I think the best review was on Stoner rock.com. They said that there needs to be more variety (the songs stay on the same key apparently). Still worth picking up though.

I saw Black Cobra a few weeks ago and they were ok. I wasn't floored by them. Maybe I should give them another chance though.

It's good for a first full length effort I hope they are perform well live. I have heard mixed views on Black Cobra, the whole two person band thing is intriguing though.

There is another 2 person band I like called Jucifer. They were more interesting to me live and on record. Both bands are different though.

Not all of their stuff is sludgy. They have a lot of variety actually. I heard their latest album is really heavy but I haven't listened to it yet.

Oh cool I'll have to check them out more then.

Any of you guys seen Maiden on the current tour? I'm thinking about going to the Chicago show. I'm glad Dream Theater is opening, but I'm not too excited about the setlist they've been playing.

I have not yet but plan on seeing them in Cleveland/Cuyahoga Falls next month. It is a large amount of newer stuff but I like most of new tracks they are playing. Granted, I would love to see The Trooper, Aces High, Phantom of the Opera, The Evil That Men Do, Infinite Dreams, Moonchild, Powerslave, Die With Your Boots on, Caught Somewhere in Time, Where eagles dare, The Prisoner, etc. However, I have missed them too many times and finally I have the means of going this year.

I'm pretty excited about the Maiden setlist. They're playing almost half of Brave New World, which is probably my favorite album of theirs.

Here's what they've been playing:

1. The Wicker Man
2. Ghost Of The Navigator
3. Wrathchild
4. El Dorado
5. Paschendale/Dance of Death (rotating every show or so)
6. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
7. These Colours Don't Run
8. Blood Brothers
9. Wildest Dreams
10. No More Lies
11. Brave New World
12. Fear Of The Dark
13. Iron Maiden
14. Encore:
14. The Number of the Beast
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name
16. Running Free

I'd replace a couple of the Dance of Death/A Matter of Life and Death tracks with some older stuff, but overall it's a great set.

I'm more of a Two Minutes and Where Eagles Dare kinda guy.....its an ok setlist but for me, thats not what I'd drop $100+ on.

I'm actually heading down to that show as well. I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan, but I figure it's better to see Maiden late than never.

Playing six older tunes is really not bad for a band with that many albums. I wish that my date was getting Paschendale and they replaced No More Lies with The Trooper. The interesting thing is Brighter than a thousand suns was played the first date in Dallas then the next date they replaced it with Wrathchild and put Dance of Death in replacement of Paschendale. The Wickerman, Ghost of the Navigator, and Wrathchild are three great songs to start with even though I would rather hear Murders in the Rouge Morgue or Killers than Wrathchild.

It just depends on which "Maiden" you call your own.....the "classics" or the "classics to Maiden Fans from the 90's". I appreciate that they tour different "eras", I just don't dig this current setlist as much as I would ones that ventured further back into the past. I mean, if I never hear THE TROOPER again I'd be ok.....and I agree, WrathChild can be mothballed.

Any of you guys gonna check out the Big Four show in theaters on Tuesday?

This a gem for a very whacked out movie:
I'd go as far as to say that Grand Magus' new album is their best yet.
So far Momument is my favorite album. Grand Magus sometimes goes dangerously close to Manowar territory sometimes though.

New Danzig album brings the funny with the song titles, as usual ("Ju Ju Bone" "The Revengeful"). Should have it when I get home. At least it looks like he's singing a little on this one, rather than hissing and screaming like he's been doing half the time since 6.
