Grammy nominated King Diamond screams "Metal Heads Unite!!"
Well my friend, are you in LUCK.

And since this is a metal thread, not a punk/hardcore thread, I'll say this. Everyone should check out Ritual Carnage. Awesome japanese death/thrash, really melodic sound too. Great shit.
SWEET! Thanks Sneaky, I knew you were big into crust. But I didn't know where to start...I'm sure this will give me a primer at the least
And since this is a metal thread, not a punk/hardcore thread
This isn't 1984 anymore; the lines are way too blurry to make that kind of definitive statement. *especially* from someone who posts a lost of crust punk songs in this thread. (er, waitaminute, I'm confusing this one and SOTM).

Take Snatch's mention of The Exploited, for one example. Sure, "Punk's Not Dead," "Troops of Tomorrow" and the like aren't metal at all, but when they hit their thrash stage, by the time "War Now" and "Let's Start a War" came out, it was pure metal, despite Wattie's hairdo.

And, jaysis christ, mid-90's Victory Style hardcore is as metal as metal can be without the hesher guitar lines. Which reminds me, Snatch, hunt down "Jud Jud" if you can.

And, I'd argue, before you dive headfirst into Sneaky's list, hunt down two albums that help bridge hardcore punk and crust: Raw Power ("The Hit List" is the easiest thing to find by them) and Siege - Drop Dead LP. *especially* Siege.

If I can find it those myke I'll definatly get them. I was listening to The Exploiteds fuck The System earlier in my car and was digging it...though it reminds me a lot of Napalm Death

Dood, I wasn't saying it to bitch, chill

(and yea, I keep crust out of here, and just post it in SOTM usually)

I was just stating that this thread is more so for traditinal styles of metal, not so much the hardcore stuff. Crossover is even pushing it. But mentioning shit like Negative FX is just pure hardcore, and doesn't really belong in a "metal" thread.

And  at Siege. God I haven't listened to Drop Dead in a long fucking time. I haven't heard Raw Power though, but I'm currently fixing that.

Also, get Amebix's Arise! as it's usually referred to as the first "real" crust album.

I'm not trying to start a fight - besides, I see how you roll with Vanilla Gorilla, so I'm not goin' that route. I just take my sweet-ass time explaining myself. That's news to no one.

Man, I haven't listened to Siege in a fortnight either. One of these days I'm gonna get around to putting my lps on my iPod. I've almost forgotten about the records I have, from Siege to Hiatus, Homomilitia, Calloused, etc. It's like shopping for records every time I look through them, b/c I've forgotten what I own.

Hahaha, holy fuck, I never thought I'd see someone mention Homomilitia.

I actually have VG on my ignore list, but sometimes I can't help but respond to his blatant lack of knowing what the fuck he's talking about (good god this was a hell of a grammatically incorrect sentence).

I just put on Drop Dead. fuck it's so good. To think this is the album that effectively started grindcore and crust.

EDIT:Also:

\m/ Kvlt.

Well, I've got discogs of Sham 69, Descendents, Misfits, Exploited, a greatest hits of the Stranglers (my partner recommend them to me), and Dropkick Murphys, that I really need to delve more into...got drunk last night and went on a spree lol

To be honest, I've never really been one for grindcore...closest I get is Napalm Death. Listening to some Sham 69 right now though...

Metal heads and punks alike should check out the "Adrenaline Radio" podcast. I've been listening so far, and have heard Amebix, Nausea, Antischism, and a few others. Good stuff, though there is a bit of banter that's unneeded. Reminds me of the radio show I had in 1997. *snif*
fuck yeah, Execration Text is insane.
I was listening alot to Nile while I was holed up at home working on my animation. It kept me pumped upped during the drab sections.

Nile is my favorite Death metal band right now...

Only good quality Necrophagist video I could find.

Why hasn't somebody posted this info?
"KING DIAMOND's new album, "Gimme Your Soul ... Please", will be released in North America on June 26 via Metal Blade Records. Massacre Records will issue the album in Germany on June 29.

"Gimme Your Soul … Please" track listing:

01. The Dead (King)
02. Never Ending Hill (Andy)
03. Is Anybody Here? (King)
04. Black of Night (Andy)
05. Mirror, Mirror (King)
06. The Cellar (Andy)
07. Pictures in Red (Andy)
08. Gimme Your Soul (King)
09. The Floating Head (Andy)
10. Cold as Ice (King)
11. Shapes of Black (King)
12. The Girl in The Bloody Dress (King)
13. Moving On (King)

Revolver magazine recently reported that KING DIAMOND's new CD was inspired by a painting called "My Mother's Eyes" which the band's distributor in Denmark stumbled across while surfing the Net (and which Diamond has since bought for the new CD cover). The more Diamond looked at the image of a battered blond girl with blood covering her white dress, holding out palms affixed with protruding eyeballs, the more it captivated and inspired him. "I can feel the energy of the front cover in all the songs we wrote, and it will definitely affect my lyrics," he promised.

Diamond wrote the music for the new album from December 2005 through February 2006, then recorded the basic tracks in his basement."
They're fucking good. I saw them with Cannibal Corpse last year.
Damn right, Muhammad is awesome.

They're very skilled, but they could do to write some more interesting material. They tend to get boring after a little while.

Also, Bloodhag + Kylesa + Genghis Tron = ONE OF THE BEST fuckING SHOWS EVER.

Genghis Tron's new material is fucking amazing.

I've liked them for a while, picked up Annihilation around my birthday last year and was hooked.

I've gotten into Exhumed lately, and I have to say, they're pretty good.

Also ordered Butchered At Birth by Cannibal Corpse for $9.60 on Ebay.
I never really saw the appeal of Celtic Frost, but that song isn't bad.
Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion is all you need, just stay out of the Cold Lake haha.
I never really saw the appeal of Celtic Frost, but that song isn't bad.
Celtic Frost was one of the first metal bands to use odd time signatures in their riffs as well as incorporate elements of classical music (to give some of their songs an orchestral feel). You have to remember, most bands at that time were playing straight metal. Celtic Frost was out of left field and they influenced a lot of bands.

To Mega Therion is the first record you should start with.

I'm going to "check it out" in a few.

Sounds of the Underground has some pretty sweet ass bands announced so far..

Amon Amarth
GWAR
Job for a Cowboy
Goatwhore
Darkest Hour

I'm stoked for all of those. I'm going to the Dallas show in July.

Yes, that's Corpsegrinder back in his Monstrosity days, looks small huh? This album is pretty hard to find, I got it on vinyl for $30 from a guy in Brazil on Ebay. The cd pops up now and then on Ebay.
I just wanted to stop in before I ran off to class to say:

Selfless ruled, in response to your avatar.
I just wanted to stop in before I ran off to class to say:

Boris is a band I've always been curious about. I never listened to any of their albums though.

They're easily in my top 5 bands. I own a handful of things by them, and have their entire discography downloaded. They play in so many fucking genres it's amazing.

Going to see Cannibal Corpse on April 27th and then see Celtic Frost on May 6 at the Sonar. The Maryland Deathfest added some new bands. Cynic cancelled their show, but Malevolent Creation has been added! And now for another video...

Only somewhat related to metal (well, to be fair, if Lemmy had his own cooking show it would still be "metal"), Lemmy's blues band The Headcat is playing in town on May 12.

I don't think they're that good (even considering the inclusion of Slim Jim Phantom in the band), but...it's *Lemmy*. Should I go or not?

Oh and RIP Dead (of Mayhem), you truly lived up to your name.

Hmm...I'm waiting for the new KD album too...and Megadeth.Too bad Metallica post-poned it til next year...Is anybody going to the Sick of the Studio concerts?

From what I've heard the new KD album is going to be "Give Me Your Soul...Please".I do not know the story behind it yet,but King said it's a very dark story. The album will contain 13 tracks, and will be released in North America on 26th June by metal Blade Records and in Europe on 29th June by Massacre Records.

And there will be a tour...but a small one :( for now, there are only 6 venues up with tickets in Denmark and Sweden.

Ok, people I'm going to see Cannibal Corpse tomorrow at the Sonar. The headlining bands are Psyopus, Job for a Cowboy, and The Red Chord. I heard of Psyopus before, but not the other bands. I was wondering if any of you who have seen Cannibal Corpse live know what the setlist is? I know for sure that Hammer Smashed Face will be the last song of the set, along with maybe Stripped, Raped, and Strangled. Also, I'm thinking about maybe getting a CC shirt at the merch table there, anyone know the prices and what else I can expect to see on sale there? Thanks.

They'll probably play Perverse Suffering, but other then that, it's gonna be show-to-show.

And Job For A Cowboy fucking sucks.

Wow. Cant believe I just found this topic. Old school metal head here, since the early 80's my friends, so yes, makes me old.

This is in no way meant to be a spam message, but I run a podcast called MSRcast, and we are part of Metal Injection Radio, at metalinjection.net/radio...

So my fellow gamer metal heads, check out the show, and let me know what you think.

Evil C.

So I agreed to referee a rollerderby bout in Dayton the night of the Headcat show. No big loss, since I was pretty let down by what I've heard, and Lemmy will surely lose some of his mystique if I leave a show he performs without having a persistent ear-ringing for four days.

Though I did buy an Isis dvd today (I don't buy a lot of music videos). Great stuff. I'd love to see them live at some point in my life.

Now I shall prepare myself for the inevitable "Isis isn't metal, they're " argument.

DANZIG: Complete 'The Lost Tracks Of Danzig' Details Revealed - Apr. 3, 2007
If you've been craving new DANZIG material, then get your music player ready. On May 29, evilive will release "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", a two-CD set comprised of 26 previously unreleased tracks that span DANZIG's entire career. All of the tracks were recorded during the band's seven-album "arc" that began with 1988's "Danzig".

"Whenever I've made a new album, I've recorded more songs than were needed for the final CD," said Glenn Danzig. "The songs that make it onto the final album 'fit' or 'flow' together as a whole. Consequently, some tremendous DANZIG songs have never been released, not because they weren't great, but because they didn't fit the overall vibe of the particular album, or for other reasons."

When Glenn began the "Lost Tracks" project, the songs were in various stages of completion — some were still in demo form, some had no vocals, some needed a different mix, a new bass or guitar track, or some other type of tweaking. So, after spending months tracking down and reviewing the original tapes, Glenn entered the studio and completed the tracks, handling the vocals and finishing all instrumental recording himself.

The 26 songs on "The Lost Tracks of Danzig" are presented in chronological order; the first two cuts are "Pain Like an Animal" and "When Death Had No Name", both songs that have their roots in late SAMHAIN but evolved into two of the very first DANZIG tracks and intended for the band's self-titled debut. Fans will also find a song entitled "Angels of the Seventh Dawn", originally recorded for the 1990 album "Danzig II: Lucifuge", "Crawl Across Your Killing Floor", considered for "Danzig 6: Satan's Child", and the controversial "White Devil Rise", which was recorded for 1994's "Danzig 4p" and is Glenn's conjecture as to what would happen if Louis Farrakhan incited the passive white race to rise up against and start a race war with the Black Islamic movement.

Danzig also liked to include cover songs on his albums so "The Lost Tracks" will feature T.REX's "Buick McKane" (1992's "Danzig III: How The Gods Kill"), DAVID BOWIE's "Cat People" ("Danzig 7"), and "Caught In My Eye" by THE GERMS ("Danzig 6"). One of the CD's true treasures is a sparse acoustic version of "Come to Silver", a song that Glenn originally wrote for JOHNNY CASH (who reportedly loved it), then recorded it (with Jerry Cantrell on guitar) for 1996's "Danzig 5: Blackacidevil".

"The Lost Tracks of Danzig" will also contain a special 12-page booklet with a forward personally written by Glenn Danzig, a sentence or two with the history or an anecdote for each track, and plenty of vintage photos.

Long before NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON or GUNS N' ROSES, there was Glenn Danzig. Danzig is arguably the most versatile talent to emerge from hardcore's first wave — a graphic designer, photographer, comic book publisher and composer who writes all his bands' music. His songs have been covered by GUNS N' ROSES, METALLICA and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE. He's written for Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. Glenn Danzig has received many titles, from the Godfather of Dark Metal to a man of integrity, but most agree that over his three-decades career, his intense musical and lyrical statements have left a permanent mark on rock music.

Founder of the MISFITS, that band pioneered dark horror/hardcore punk and has become a seminal band of the genre, despite only six years and a few albums. The goth metal-punk band SAMHAIN quickly followed and in just another few years became a noted outfit. Darker than SAMHAIN, DANZIG's music evolved into a potent mix of gothic metal and blues with a Satanic twist. In 2006, the ever-surprising Glenn Danzig released his second classical album, "Black Aria 2", which debuted in the Top Ten — imagine, the Godfather of Dark Metal keeping company on the Billboard classical chart with Itzhak Perlman and Andrea Bocelli.

The complete track listing for "The Lost Tracks of Danzig" is as follows:

Disc One:

01. Pain Is Like An Animal
02. When Death Had No Name
03. Angel of the Seventh Dawn
04. You Should be Dying
05. Cold, Cold Rain
06. Buick McKane
07. When Death Had No Name
08. Satans Crucifiction
09. The Mandrake's Cry
10. White Devil Rise
11. Come to Silver (Acoustic)
12. Deep
13. Warlok

Disc Two:

01. Lick the Blood Off My Hands
02. Crawl Across Your Killing Floor
03. I Know Your Lie
04. Caught In My Eye
05. Cat People
06. Bound by Blood
07. Who Claims the Soulless
08. Malefical
09. Soul Eater
10. Dying Seraph
11. Lady Lucifera
12. Under Belly of the Beast
13. Unspeakable Shango Mix

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=69819

This sounds potentially good. It can't be worse than the double-live album. Moreover, "Caught in My Eye" should be fascinating to hear Danzig sing.

I guess When Death Had No Name was so lost they found it twice.

Also, is that the girl's flat-track rollerderby you're refereeing? My sister is one of the Philly Rollergirls - the flat-track league in Philadelphia. I haven't seen a bout yet but I want to.

Yeah. I'm the head referee for Cincinnati Rollergirls, though I've worked in Dayton, Indianapolis, and North Carolina as well. Our league is *thisclose* to becoming WFTDA certified (Philly is, among about 40 others). I'm really hoping to be able to work the East Coast Regional Tournament in Columbus in August, though they tend to choose more experienced refs (I've only one year in the bag).

Ask your sister if she'll be in Columbus for the regionals (either skating or attending). Also, what's her skater name?

Now I'm going to take a moment to rediscover the controversy over the song "white devil rise."

EDIT: By the way, go see a bout live, but be sure to sit in the "suicide lane," and not above the track. It totally changes the game from a fan's viewpoint.

I saw Isis a few weeks ago with jesu. Decent live show, though I had to leave early due to class the next morning.

And they do play metal, just that same type of sludgy post-rockish metal as bands like Pelican and Cult of Luna.
