Grand Theft Auto IV - Gen. Discussion & Info

Did anyone else try installing GTA to the HDD? When I did it seemed like it had significantly slower texture loading and more slow-down than when reading directly from the disk.:whistle2:s
wow 280 congrats man. Nothing like making money for playing games. I think you timed the auction perfectly that will never sell higher

Yeah sick sell... great timing.
Yeah only bad thing is the dude still hasnt paid up yet, and tomorrow will be a week after.

But the DLC sounds cool. I thought it would be something like Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories were on PSP.

I some general GTA IV questions:

1. Is there a mission or friendship that unlocks the ability to have a car waiting outside of Niko's apartment at all times?

2. I blew up the race car that the meathead gave to me. Is there anyway to find another so I may complete those racing missions?

Also, I am playing for the first time in a year, and I am up to the lawyer missions. Any advice for my future endeavors would be appreciated, so I do not miss anything. (I am looking to receive some achievemnts) Thanks!!!

1. Not that I know of. I have 100% completion and have to find my own cars. :p The safehouse on the middle island has a sports car shop right around the corner. I always go there for a fast car.

2. You can use any car for the races. The car you are given is pretty uncommon (Comet/Infernus?) so if you lose it it'll be hard to find another. The car shop on the middle island has cars more than fast enough to win all the races.

3. There's no missable achievements (except for Liberty City Minute). All the achievements can be obtained even after completing the main story. And I'm not sure if you've already done this yet, but when you have to choose between Dwayne and Playboy, if you choose Dwaynes friendship then you get Playboy's place as a safehouse.

Kind of similar question to the one he was asking - it's still possible to 100% the game even without Michelle at 100%, right? I just beat it and I want to go ahead for 100%, but she's only at 92%.

If any friends leave or die they will not count towards 100% completion so you're okay. According to this Michelle doesn't count towards 100% regardless.

Awesome - thanks!

I'm a bit freaked out right now. So...many moons ago I completed GTAIV's single player 100% in hopes to get the Key to the City. After it took Rockstar so long to get their shit together, I decided it wasn't worth the effort to get that stupid key.

Well...this morning I got a package, and inside was the Key from Rockstar that was promised to people who got 100%. I'm perplexed to say the least.

im plugging away at the story mode right now before i get lost and damned. im really loving everything about it. even jumped online with it and really enjoy that as well. im also going to try to get 100% without cheating though (not looking up locations for jumps and pigeons) so i prob wont get 100%. time to play some more

Props Broly, sounds like a great surprise.

Quick question about the Cleaned The Mean Streets, how do you capture the people??? I just used the computer and shot the people once I found them.

NOTE
Achievement states that you have to capture 20 people using the LCPD computer

Kill them. Kill em all.

Seriously, you just have to kill 20 of the current crimes I think? (sorry, its been a while since this one). And the ones on foot are easiest to get - just run em down.

The last mission (after choosing revenge) of the game is very frustrating.

I think the best method to take out the goons in the old Casino is to head to the right and go up on the roof to take out the guys outside and inside (through the holes in the roof). The motorcycle chase isn't too bad.

Any suggestions for the helicopter? The controls are horrible and I get blown up before I can really get close to the boat.

VERY frustrating Rockstar. Way to ruin a great game at the end.

I chose "Deal" the first time and I think it's harder than Revenge. Now, that might be because the casino fight is exactly the same in both and I was already well practiced after failing deal a dozen times. Catching helicopter is hella easier on the bike than it is on the boat.

I never had a problem killing the goons. They dont move around too much so that makes them easy fodder for rockets and the sniper outside and M4 carbine inside.

As for the Heli, I just tried to stay as high as possible. Even if you get shot you should still be able to get far enough.

The storyline *requires* that you get shot down so that you crash into Happiness Island for the final firefight.

I figured that out as I crashed into the land with the boat.

I finished it now, so its time for some biker gang wars in the Lost and Damned. I think I may wait a week to enter the code so I don't get sick of the game.

Some support that the 2nd DLC will be with Luis Fernando Lopez?

luist.jpg

I took this screen cap today, you can climb to where Luis appears during the museum mission, in the window. Then you can even climb on top of the roof of the building. Where
you can see Luis running durring this mission in the end credits for TLAD.

The next DLC has to be with him. And it seems that he will be more involved with these diamonds, and gay tony.

Yeah I didn't like the last mission too, failed it twice then put the game on the shelve. Came back to it about a month later and done it first time.

Last mission was epic. I think the money mission is harder than revenge. Only because i kept getting blown up trying to get into the damn boat.

Was it just me or is that song from the first trailer always playing during the last mission on the Journey channel? Cos i beat it twice and both times that song was playing. If that was supposed to happen then big ups to rockstar cos that song really goes well with the last mission.

This might be late, but IGN are morons. In their review of GTA IV, i think it was, they said Salavtores mansion is in the game. Now there is an area that looks similar to where Salvatores mansion was, but there is no building in the game that ive seen that looks like his mansion.

Then in the IGN video review of Lost and Damned they said there is a mission that explains how Eddie Low escapes prison and goes on the killing spree. But if you actually look at the timeline, the killings start way before that mission even happens. Plus there is no evidence in that mission that Eddie Low is even on the bus.

This is how rumors start, and now a lot of people think salvatores mansion is that stupid building that looks nothing like it.

Very interesting, this makes me want to replay the game more. I did some research and found this, it is similar to the fallout wiki. I want to see the connections, now that I know where to look

I know this is a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways:

So I followed the achievements guides and videos to get the 200 pigeons. And of course I get to #200 and it says there is one pigeon left.

I don't know which one I missed but I am definitely not in the mood to go back through the list again. There isn't an easy way to find out which one I haven't killed is there? The dots on whatheydonotwantyoutoknow don't show it right?

Combat, I don't know if this helps.

Does anyone still play this after beating it? I haven't touched it once since beating it.. same story with GTA IV when I beat it. I played online maybe once or twice after GTA IV but that's about it.

Yeah that's the map I used. Apparently I missed one somewhere. I guess I was hoping there was some magical place that could tell me which one it is lol I just don't have it in me to do it all over again. I'm sure there's not but I thought it might be worth a shot.

I've started playing alot recently just going around doing odd things I missed before. Been catching criminals with the police car picked up a couple of achievements. Flew under all the bridges.

I was really worried before I didn't have Stevie in my phone contacts so I thought I couldn't do his car delivery missions but I went into my phone messages and went to the oldest ones and there was a car pending for me in there. So i'm doing them now.

Also i'm going around trying to meet the remaining strangers that I need and i've read a little about perverts around the city too? Whats exactly are they?

Combat, start from the last one and go backwards. I did they same thing except I reconciled every 10 to make sure I was on track, hit 180 and was 1 short. Turns out it was around 170 something I missed one. Maybe a little more of a moral booster to think you won't have to go back through so many.

I went back into the game to try and grab the Liberty Minute Achievement. Saved over my other save where I had probably half of the cars found. :wall:

Ouch, that really sucks. The text message cars take FOREVER to get.

I beat the game a few weeks ago, and have been going back to do all the side-missions and what not. I'm enjoying the game way more now that the story missions are over, although I just missed the Liberty City Minute cheesie. The vigilante missions are awesome in this installment, I love taking down the criminals with the siren blaring, haha.

Finding all the pigeons is more than a bit intimidating. I don't want to go through all the trouble and end up missing one or more, which is what seems to happen to most people.

You know I never understood the back up, you call them and they go to the location you're at, getting out of the car there on the sidewalk. You can't call them at the crime scene because you shoot out of window of the vehicle.

I just played the game for the first time since October. I beat this the day Saints Row 2 came out, and went back to it for TLAD. But my question is, can the "No More Strangers" achievement be done after the story is finished, or must it be done earlier?

Yeah you can do it after beating the game and you'll need to keep doing them after you get the No More Strangers achievement to complete all of their stories if you're going to try and get 100%. If I can ever find those last 2 pigeons, all I'll need to do is a few stranger quests and taking my friends out and I'll have all the achievements. Damn pigeons make it too easy to keep putting off.

I can't tell if I goofed up on the car hijacking. I don't remember if I responded or turned in the car from email. Is there a way to tell?

I could find an original GTA thread but I decided not to. I probably have been playing for about 2 hours now and I have literally done nothing but drive around and play a couple minigames (Bowling and Pool). Not including the tutorial couple of fights.

When does the actual fighting and shooting start? To top it off I don't even think the driving around is as fun as it used to be during the PS2 years.

Thoughts?

Am I the only one who thinks the start literally sucks a--?
I haven't played in awhile but I think you pull the cell phone and get started really through everything through there.
Yeah. That is what Im doing but so far it is just picking someone up to go someplace else. The minigames are after you pick the first girl up and go on a date and then drop her back off.

look for little dots as you drive around. those dots usually trigger missions and what not. you have to start the missions before anything good really starts. once the story starts moving, it really keeps moving.

Just stick with it for a little while longer and then you'll start the fun missions (shooting, car chases, etc). The game has a really good storyline if you are willing to put in the time.

Im not planning on quitting I just was kind of shocked at how long it is taking to get into anything really resembling a typical mission.

Yea most of the time you dont get missions through the cell phone. Look for the icons on the map. Right now there might be a big R for Roman. Stick with it and it picks up pretty quick.

i got this game at the midnight launch and played the game for about 2 weeks. could not get into to at all so i stopped playing it. The Lost and the Damned comes out and i get that and play all the way through it. So I go back to the regular game and got hooked on it for about 3 weeks and finally beat it. I'm about 75 percent done with everything and i still keep going back to it to get the other achievements. So yeah give it time and you may be like me and finally open up to it.
