nope, Lifeforce was side-scrolling. That too was a great game :)

I love Lifeforce. But I'm pretty sure that isn't it.
nope, Lifeforce was side-scrolling. That too was a great game :)
Every other level was vertical :)

And Woobacca #3 is Blaster Master I believe.

Edit: Crap ruined by the 45 second limit on posting!
Every other level was vertical :)

ohh yeah, totally forgot about that.

Quick hint -- the name sounds like the singular form of a popular prescription drug. ;-)
Caveman Games (?)
Shinobi
Blaster Master (OH NOES MY FROGGIE!)
No, Yes, Yes
I figured any in-game screenshot of Blaster Master would be stupefyingly obvious, but I guess it's also hard to forget the intro sequence.

....Xanac? (hopes he is right since this is try #2 and the hint makes me think I'm right)

Also, is that first one...like...based on the BC comic? :/
....Xanac?
yep, except it's spelled with a "Z". They made a sequel called Zanac X Zanac for the PS1. Came out in Japan only and is really freaking expensive.
Since the other ones I've posted have been answered pretty much immediately, here's one that is probably less well-known:
Here's another shot from this game, dunno if it'll help a lot though:
Top one is BC's Quest for Tires......I was eventually gonna post that one.
lol yep that's the one
It might be, but I have it on Atari 2600. Tons of two-player fun. It's one of the few 2600 games I still play.
I thought Intellivision because of the colors and the graphic-style. I'm stumped.
Remember these?
1st one had to be a game based on B.C. commodore 64/128 maybe?

2nd one looks like the shinobi game from the sega master system?

I'm prolly wrong on both. :p
Here's another shot from this game, dunno if it'll help a lot though:

I used to play this game, I think [ on the atari 2600 perhaps?]... I thought it was Combat (not Combat 2) but I think you said it wasn't though... I can remember what this game played like, but not the name though...

Now someone just needs to post a screen from Adventure with the dragons that looked like ducks. :p
Well, here's another one for you guys to try. Shouldn't be too hard.

gamequiz32.jpg
Damn, as a self-proclaimed adventure game enthusiast I should know this, but I don't. There weren't too many that feature live actors I think.

I'll give the other guys a chance to guess this (Mr Unoriginal, BlueWing, etc) and post the answer tomorrow if no one knows it.

Then I'll educate you all on this great game and instruct everyone who can to go get it.

Well, according to digitpress.com it was adapted from an Intellivision game. Waddya know? :)

I'm stumped on this one. Really looks like Combat, that would have been my guess. After a tiny bit of research I see a game called "Tank Plus" but I don't think it's that either

Any takers yet?

BlueWingX, good job on the puzzle you handed us. Just happened to see the first cover of Nintendo Power when looking for release dates. Your last clue helped. :)
Dunno why, but I loved this game as a kid.

Makes sense that it would be rare and expensive, considering Compile is no more. Not that I'd ever part with my copy (it is the best shooter I've ever played, though Gradius V comes darn close), but what does it go for these days, just out of curiousity?
How about these:

Holy crap did I love this game growing up. Worth every one of the 300 seconds it took to load up. It made me giddy just seeing it again.
Never heard of Shufflepuck Cafe til just now, but looking at the screenshot I think I would have loved it.
It rocked. Character-based air hockey for the Mac. You could adjust everything -- including the size of your stopper thing. The difficulty was crazy.

there's 2 copies on ebay, 1 BIN for $150, one auction starting at 99.99. You lucky bastard! How does play compared to the original? I loved the power up system in that game.

Heh, well I guess I am lucky that I have a friend in Japan and that we're both Compile fanatics; we knew about it well in advance (though not Compile's bankruptcy), so he picked us each up a copy the week it came out. Anyway, it plays a LOT like the original, but about 10 times more insane. Powerups work similarly, although you have three ships to choose from (plus the original ship!), and the ship you select affects what kind of weapons you get. It also supports two players at once, includes the old Zanac (2 or 3 modes to choose from), and has an amazing soundtrack. It will make your thumbs sore!

BTW, even if you can't afford Zanac x Zanac, there are still a few more shooters Compile worked on that did come out in the U.S. that you might not be aware of (back in the day, companies just didn't go out of their way to recognize the small guys)........

The Guardian Legend (NES)
Gun-Nac (NES)
Power Strike (Master System)
M.U.S.H.A. (Genesis)
Robo Aleste (Sega-CD)
Space Megaforce (SNES)
Blazing Lasers (TG-16)

I think that's about all of their U.S.-released shooters, but someone else chime in if I missed any.

Okay, the guy who posted the Nintendo Power cover games inspired me, so here's my twist on it. Name the games and what they have in common. Hint 1: They are all early 80's releases, but that in and of itself is not the link in this case. Hint 2: Yes, they all showed up on the Atari 2600; that's not the connection. You'll have to be pretty old-school to know what I'm talking about. I'll drop another hint if no one gets it.
I want to say The Guardian Legend, but I'm not sure if that's right.
It's not The Guardian Legend. I'm surprised no one has gotten this one yet. I thought it was a somewhat well known NES game. Maybe not that many people reached the final stage (which is shown in the screen shot). It's an unusual level compared to the rest of the game. I bet if I posted a picture from any other part of the game, someone would get it fairly quickly.
Or, rather, they all had individual cartoons about them?
Yeah that's got to be it!

Edit: Did a quick search and found this:

------------------
Saturday Supercade
------------------

Five segments made up this series of video game-inspired cartoons which ran
for two seasons on CBS. The first season lineup featured: "Donkey Kong,"
the adventures of a gorilla who escapes from the circus an keeps on the run
to avoid captivity; "Donkey Kong Jr.," the misadventures of Donkey Kong Jr.
and his friend, Bones, in search of Kong's missing father; "Frogger," the
story of a frog and his companions (Fanny Frog and Shelly the Turtle) as
reporters for the _Swamp Gazette_; "Pitfall," the exploits of a treasure
hunter, his niece and their cowardly pet who travel the world to unearth
lost treasures; an "Q*bert," a teenager who battles the evil Coilee Snake and his
accomplices (Viper, Ugh and Wrong Way) with the help of his girlfriend,
Q*tee.

"Frogger" and "Pitfall Harry" aired only during the first season. For the
second season, they were replaced by two new video game-derived segments:
"Space Ace," a handsome, gallant space hero who, with his lovely partner,
Kimberly, protects the heavens from the evil Commander Borf, who plots to
rule the universe; and "Kangaroo," the misadventures of three youngsters
Joey, Katy and Sindey, who run into all sorts of problems at the local zoo,
including the Monkey Biz Gang.

_A Ruby-Spears Enterprises Prouction. Colour. One hour. Premiered on CBS:
September 17, 1983-Auguest 31, 1985._

All the games require a long vertical screen, rather than the regular wide or 4:3 screen on arcade counterparts? All the games had coctail table arcade versions?

How could I forget Saturday Supercade? I had a good friend play drums for a pop-punk band by that name for YEARS.

I feel like a dupe.

Yep, you got it. The key was that they were all part of the same show, and all part of Season 1 (as the description says, some of the shows were rotated out for Season 2).

Let's see here... capitalist_mao was indeed right. That was Under a Killing Moon, the first of the 3 FMV Tex Murphy adventures. A damn fine series of games... No new puzzle yet, but I'm thinking about it. :) In the meantime, here's a couple of my arcade favorites.
