Man, that box art is TERRIBLE and it looks even worse on the bundlet set. As for the guitar it looks like they sprinkled some glitter on it, which isn't really only positive in all this.

I always thought that the cover art was a placeholder image.
Not sure if I'm the only one who hopes drum fills are changed in GH5 but I'm not a big fan of the drawn out drum fills in World Tour.

You mean the long silence on drums and Activision figures its a good idea to ruin it by just drumming randomly for points?

I think someone coined the phrase "trying to do a nice sounding drum fill until resorting to whaling on the drum pads cause you've got 10 more seconds to waste" in the scientific community.

Edit: Here's the achievement list for everyone's early morning reading: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/guitar-hero-5/achievements/
Hmmm, looks like there's avatar support in GH5.

For better or worse it's the exact same guitar as the one in GH:WT. Only difference is the faceplate.

As for the cheezmints, I look at the perform a song with four singers and just do it alone and think of that Family Guy episode where Peter asks "Hey from up here does it look like I'm surrounded by abunch of robot penises?"

Going back and playing some World Tour tonight, I forgot how intentionally shitty they make your guitar sound when you're playing a sustained note with a Rock Band guitar. I wonder what the chances are of that carrying over into 5...

BEGIN RANT

I remember thinking Guitar Hero 5 would be just another quick cash but the announced setlist so far looks like its gonna be a ton of fun , least it is to me at the moment (Never Miss a Beat!!!). Not to mention some of those party modes or w/e sound like they might be good , 4 guitars or 4 drums should be fun.

some song choices are hit or miss but then again some are just pure awesome (Deadbolt is gonna be sick!) I just hope the last 25 artists get song choices that are just as , if not, better.

More gameplay videos and seeing the last 25 unannounced songs left should help me decide if its worth buying or renting Guitar Hero 5 come September 1st or if not just wait it out with more Rock Band DLC till Rock Band 3 arrives =/
(also awesome to hear more Muse and Arctic Monkeys made it into the setlist! plus Eagles of Death Metal woot)

So far all the songs from the "leaked" Joystiq setlist seem to be the ones popping up if you're wondering what the last few songs are.

Thanks , i just finished looking up the rest of the rumored setlist......but now i feel a little underwhelmed , i guess because some choices are once again meh....

that and reading about that new Rock Band Network coming later this year, holy cow does that have potential...... BUT i am also excited to see Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World , also the GH:WT dlc will work for it (if i end up buying any) , so all is not lost......yet.

I don't know, yea I knew about avatar support, I just think its totally not Guitar Hero with avatars. Its not going to be mandatory so that's good.

Surprised that no one's talking about this, IGN has a preview up that talks about transferring songs over to Guitar Hero 5.
Basically (for a fee) you'll be able to transfer "some" songs from World Tour and Smash Hits over. Though, I wonder what the 6 songs out of World Tour's DLC songs don't work with GH5 are.

Whoa, that's some good news. Shame I already bought GHWT but having it that convenient (off one disc) is nice. Hopefully they keep it up for DJ Hero and future iterations.

I like that importing is becoming the standard for rhythm gaming since having all my songs in one place.

Now they need to figure out a way to make these plastic instruments with more storability since my Rock Band kit and Guitar Hero kit is taking up prime real estate in my closet.
being able to import songs was a big deal to me. this makes it much more likely that ill be getting the game on day one.
That and a free copy of GH: Van Halen may just have me sold on this one.
That and a free copy of GH: Van Halen may just have me sold on this one.
i have no desire to get the VH version, i havent bought any of the band versions (except aerosmith which i bought on clearance, played one song and flipped on goozex).
That and a free copy of GH: Van Halen may just have me sold on this one.
Sold for me as well, I love VH.

i still havent heard how much its going to cost to transfer over songs, which worries me. rock band was $5 i believe. so ill be pretty upset if activision goes for $10, especially considering theres 2 games.

What worries me more is that they made sure to mention the fact it was "some" songs and not all songs... if it's like RB, and it is all the songs minus 3, good deal. But if it's something like, just 1/2 the songs can be imported, that's not going to be so hot.

I am not putting it past Activision to purposely not be able to transfer large chunks of games like Smash Hits so that they are still able to sell copies still, rather than people just renting / borrowing and importing the songs.

Don't forget, you can transfer the Smash Hits songs as well.
I'm thinking of picking up a copy at BB this week for $40.
As it is now, I usually only play RB2. And the biggest reason is the fact that for $5, I was able to transfer almost all songs from RB1, and All DLC.
I'd much rather play a music game with hundreds of songs to play, instead on one with just 80 (not that 80 is a small amount).
Hopefully they'll decide to allow transfer of the Van halen and Metallica tracks as well some day. However, I HIGHLY doubt that will ever happen, because of all the licensing fees.

One thing does concern me.
First off, How much will this "transfer fee" be?
Secondly, and perhaps even more importantly, How many songs from GHWT and Smash Hits will be transferrable.
All they have said is "SOME" songs will be transferable. If "Some" means 95%, then great. If it means 20%, then F that.

Also gotta wonder WHEN they actually plan on implementing their transfer method. I forget the exact timeline, but I know I already had the RB1 tracks exported to my hard drive like a week before RB2 came out. Meanwhile GH5 is right around the corner and there aren't any details yet!!

Guitar Hero 5 DLC won't be backwards compatible with GHWT so they are forcing everyone to buy GH5 to keep all their songs together.

Transferring World Tour songs costs 280 points and requires you to input the 12 digit code into the main menu of GH5. A total of 560 points to get World Tour and Smash Hits songs into GH5 doesn't sound too bad.
As long as its a sizable selection. There's already a 99% chance that you won't be able to transfer the 3 Tool songs from WT :( , but I'm hoping the cooler songs from WT & Smash Hits make the transfer other wise I'll just pass on the entire process and hunt down cheap discs.

Also, $30 each for GH5 and GH Van Halen moved it from me being neither, to Day 1 purchase. Good job activision.

I decided to pick up Smash hits for $40 at BB, just so I can have more songs to import.
So last night I was playing GHII to get through the career mode on hard. Wow, do I hate some of the songs they have moved from GHII to Smash hits.
Normally I hate hearing people say "the track list sucks", because I believe we all have different tastes in music.
That being said, I thought the whole purpose of Smash hits, was to give drums and singing options to the "greatist hits". So how in the "F" am I supposed to sing a "lamb of god" song?!?
I think I may just return the smash hits, and stick with my GHWT songs to transfer into GH5.

Hopefully TRU lets me PM Best Buy's B1G1 half off sale next week. If so, that coupled with my $30 GC means I'll definitely snag this along with something else.

So I was able to score my copy early, not a bad game. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of World Tour or Smash Hits anymore so I can't import songs. Kinda sucks, might picked up some used copies with credit and just hope people haven't attempted to redeem the codes before. It's wierd seeing your avatar with the guitar hero characters. Just seems out of proportion really.

Do you play on expert drums? If so, how is the charting? Are the songs fun to play for the most part?

I can barely play medium on drums. I'm also not an expert on the charting. The songs are definitely fun to play. Play That Funky Music was loads of fun, for me at least. I've also unlocked Shirley Manson and they did a decent job on her character model.

I see. I'm glad to hear that the songs are fun though. I was just wondering about charting because I absolutely hated the charts on WT, with some being ridiculously undercharted, and some being really overcharted. I'm hoping they did a better job this time around.

Yeah, my friend got an early copy. I Can already say that the animation is a BIG leap over GH:WT where it doesn't feel as cheap. Party mode isn't really useful minus it being only way to use No Fail plus if you want to change instruments with a full band you still gotta press the guide button and turn it off. The guitar feels nicer with it feeling a bit more rubbery on the strum bar and starpower button, but not that big a leap. Overall it's good, but not enough to make me stop playing Rock Band 2.

I don't know why I find this funny but I just unlocked Johnny Cash as a playable character and decided to play Blur's "Song 2". It was just extremely entertaining to watch that, especially the end after the songs over and they do that win pose. Hilarious.

A friend of mine had his 360 banned so he gave me his codes out of his Guitar Hero game. They all come over to my place to play these songs anyway. Well the Guitar Hero World Tour Import size is 1.27GB. I'll post the songs that were available to be moved over after it finished downloading. The Smash Hits import is not available yet. This is the site that the game says will have the list of importable songs: http://www.guitarhero.com/songimport/. It doesn't seem to be active yet though.

Thank you.
How many points does it cost?
I sure hope it's MOST of the songs. I've heard it's only 40 though.

It did only cost 280 points so I would think it wouldn't be all of them. I wish I could remember how large the Rock Band export was that would be a decent indicator of how many songs. I think Rock Band 1 export was like 1.5GB or so and you got like 50 Songs. With that in mind the 40 songs does appear to be on spot.
