Guitar Hero 5 - September dlc: Papa Roach, Godsmack and more!
It did only cost 280 points so I would think it wouldn't be all of them. I wish I could remember how large the Rock Band export was that would be a decent indicator of how many songs. I think Rock Band 1 export was like 1.5GB or so and you got like 50 Songs. With that in mind the 40 songs does appear to be on spot.
Actually, I did some looking around. In the GH forums, people are saying that the first batch (for 280 points) is 35 songs. Not bad for 280, but still no where near what RB was able to accomplish. Oh well. It does look like GH will continue trying to acquire licenses to be able to transfer more at a later date (at another charge I'm sure).
Thanks the the info.

35 is what I came up with.

Also another thing to note which may have already been posted in here, but the Du Hast version isn't the english version, which I'm quite happy about. Make sure you play as a guitarist as Johnny Cash on that song too at least once. Dear lord I screwed up so much because I was laughing so hard. Johnny rocking out, headbanging with his acoustic guitar to Du Hast. Comedy gold.

If I had been paying attention to the import process, you can actually see the songs in the list before you do the import. I'm an idiot.

Well, 35 is not as good as I was hoping for (compared to RB2's RB1 list), but at least it's a start. I'm guessing they will keep trying to get acquire more licenses for more transfers.
The price comes out to 10cents per song. I wonder if they will stick to that in possible future transfers.

I doubt they will keep to the 10c per song though. They say once the 20 digit code has been redeemed it can't be redeemed again. I mean I guess they could call it GHWT Import 2 and then reset the key redemption but I doubt it. I'm wanting the Smash Hits to get put up. I also wonder if they are going to allow for the import of Guitar Hero Metallica songs. If I knew for a fact that they would I would get a used copy now before people start stealing the codes out of them. Been borrowing my buddies copy for a while but I know he will want to import them if possible.

They are adding more later. I think all in all between the two games you will get all but about 6 songs 'exported.' I posted it earlier in the thread (I think).

There was no definite figure given for exportable disc songs until today, IIRC.

I know DLC for Guitar Hero 5 will not work with World Tour, but will the DLC songs currently on the marketplace for World Tour work on Guitar Hero 5?

Anyone able to get the GHVH site to work? I'm trying to register for the free copy, but it wont load. I guess the site is getting slammed.

You go into the Options menu in GH5, then there will be an item called Import Songs. Then you select the GHWT Import and you will have to input the 20 digit code that is on the back of your GHWT manual. Then it brings you to the option to download the songs, 1.29GB and costs 280MSP

ah ok. is it a download or do you then need to put in your GHWT disc?

i'm just curious because my buddy has my GHWT disc and i'm afraid that dickhead will try to import the songs over to his console.

Just mailed my letter out. Game should be here by October 13th. Nothing beats paying $90 for Batman, GH5, and GHVH.

I'm diggin' the game so far. I had numerous problems with WT and Metallica in that it didn't register my hits properly. I thought it was my Ions, but I guess it was just those games as GH5 works just fine. I do have problems with star power though (seriously, activating it is the worst) and reading the faster charts as I'm used to RB, but overall, I'm enjoying the game much more than previous titles.

"Deadbolt" and "In The Meantime" so far are my favorite songs to play on drums. Finally a game has decided to put older Thrice in.

I need to grab the drums, but last time I heard the WT drums were possibly broken. I'm not going to buy a possibly broken plastic drum set lol.

I would adjust this game more if I could properly adjust the video lag. Either that, or hitting the notes is WAY too forgiving this time around.

I don't like how achievements pop up mid-song, and I don't like how the "this song will resume in " screen blocks off most of the chart, that's pretty much the point of the screen.. so you don't lose a streak.

Other than that, the game is great so far, and I don't know if it's been said yet or not, but the animations are insane. In a good way. Did they go with motion capturing this time around or something? Everything's so smooth.

The notes are very forgiving. I was messing around seeing how far off I could hit the note and get it to register, it was pretty crazy some of the things you can get away with. At one point I wasn't even like keeping the beat of the song at all and it was still registering my hits and continuing my streak.

The achievements thing doesn't really bother me, mainly because I've taught myself to not be distracted by on-screen pop-ups while I'm playing.

Lastly, yes, the animations are awesome. Everything seems very fluid and looks great. They did a very nice job. I don't like though how the drummer doesn't ever really look like he's actually playing the song that you're playing.

I hate this game.

Well, maybe not exactly, but it has given me a horrible first impression. First off, you need to download some of the songs. What the fuck? I paid for these songs! Why the fuck do I have to download them? That's bullshit! Well, as I go further down the list, it looks like most of them are free DLC from GHWT. But then again, I still paid for these songs. They appear in my song list, albeit grayed out. I don't know if they factor in to the advertised 85 or so songs, but if they do, then that's even more bullshit because then I really did pay for those songs, no doubt about it.

Second, the GUI and HUD are horrid. Everything is so small, and stuff is moved around for no reason again. Instead of the star power and rock meters being pinpoint indicators with actual needles or a fighting game style bar, the new star power and rock meters are now tiny glowy stripes that are more like vague suggestions of how well you're doing. That is such a step back.

Also, when you fail a song, the GUI lists "new song" way down and out of sight from "retry song." When I first failed a song, I chose "exit" because it was right next to retry, and I expected it to take me back to the song list. It took me back to the main menu. When I purposefully failed a song again to see if there is really a "new song" option, I had to scroll down the list for such a long time, and you can only see three options at once, that I actually began to wonder whether there really was a "new song" option. Apparently there is one, but you have to go down like seven times. That's so annoying. It would be quicker to just choose exit.

The thing about the interface that grinds my gears the most is that when you do go back to the song list after you finish or fail a song, the game takes you back to the top of the list every time. That has never happened before in a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game (maybe Smash Hits, I don't know, never played it). That is so damn annoying that I can see myself not playing this game as much just because of it. Now it usually takes even longer to get to a song that I want. I can't just go down the list in order anymore. Not cool in the slightest.

The game also feels kind of loose. Not exactly Guitar Hero 3 loose, but loose in that it feels fundamentallly different. It's like the strike line timing is different somehow. It can't be lag because I'm playing on my old CRT, and I already calibrated the game. It returned zero lag, as expected.

Finally, the set list is perhaps my least favorite out of every GH/RB game. There are a handful of standout songs for me, but most of it doesn't grab me. Also, most of the standout songs for me aren't technically brilliant guitar songs. Mostly repetitive chords. It's probably not representative of the other songs, but I've got to wonder how the other songs stack up. Even Megadeth's Sweating Bullets is a rather lackluster guitar song.

Here's hoping for a better game in Van Halen.

The only songs that I had greyed out were the GHWT DLC. The download was to update the songs to be able to be used in Guitar Hero 5, which sucks but is legitimate.

My ass is legitimate.

Come to think of it, I think I now have these free DLC songs on my hard drive twice. Great. More hard drive space that I didn't need to have taken up by the continuing trend of removing stuff from the disc that should have been there in the first place.

No Eagles? No Ozzy? No REM? No Hendrix? Two of the 35 tracks as guitar duels? What the fuck?

The import was a big part of my interest in the game - I spent a lot of time with World Tour on my friend's PS3, and just couldn't get into it. Seeing that less than HALF of the game's tracks import and that ten of the 28 that do import are in Rock Band either on-disc or as DLC...fuck that.

I decided to pick this up along with Batman:AA at the BB's B1G1 50%off sale.
I haven't opened it yet. I'm still contemplating whether or not I really want it.
But with the free GH:Van Halen, the BB deal basically gives me 3 games for $90.

I had picked up GHSmashhits a couple weeks ago during the BB sale, but I decided to return it today (un-opened). I had only picked it up so I could transfer the tracks to GH5. And with GHWT only allowing 35 so far, I can't imagine smash hits will allow as much as I'd hope.

I picked this up today and being the diehard rock band fan boy I am (ion drums, over 700 total songs, a restraining order from most harmonix employess), I am thoroughly enjoying the game. It seemed to fix the complaints I had with WT and the setlist is pretty good. I'l have more impressions later on.

I think the calibration is completely broken as it returned 0 lag for me as well, but I feel like it's lagged badly. As you said, the striking feels completely off. Either that, or like SEH said, the game is VERY, VERY forgiving, which I don't like at all. I want the note to completely disappear at the strike line, but sometimes it goes past it even if I hit the note, and it completely throws me off.

I'm a bit discouraged by what I'm hearing with the "too forgiving on the strum bar", and lag.
I think I'll wait a few days before deciding if I'll actually keep this. As long as I keep my reciept and don't open the game, I can return it and get RB:Beatles instead.

I need to hear that this is the best GH. And I have a feeling it's not.

I've got no lag at all. Calibration worked fine for me. I'm at 0 video lag (plasma) and I have 22ms audio lag due to my surround sound. With things calibrated, I have no problems hitting notes and FC'ing songs on drums.
Didn't they say they were going to add more WT tracks later?
That would change things. Given that this is Activision, though, I've got a little bit of doubt that that will actually happen.

How does the import system work? It's supposed to use a one-time-only code...are you going to be able to reimport later if they actually do license more songs?

After giving it a little more time, it's growing on me. The strum bar isn't as forgiving as I had thought, it's just that the songs were way too easy. It still feels a little off. The animation continues to amaze me. I can't wait to unlock characters. I've already got
Shirley Manson
, but no one else yet.

Sidenote, "Sowing Season" by Brand New is pretty cool, and I'm going to check out the CD it's on ("The Devil and God are raging inside me")

I had played GH2 for a while this month and decided to go back into WT today. Man I kept hitting the notes with bad timing. I seemed to gradually get back into the swing of things but initially I was cursing messing up so much that I thought it was my guitar. lol
Might seem like a dumb question, but how do you change your band mates?
Go all the way to the bottom and select band members or whatever its called. Then, just move over to whoever you want to select and either choose a random character (that you can customize) or one of the GH characters.

I didn't know you could do that. Holy crap. That is freaking awesome. All 4 slots filled by Johnny Cash. Let the heavy metal humor begin!

Just tried to make a character.. holy crap, you can literally customize everything. I'm a little sad that I rented this instead of buying it.. I will definitely pick it up sometime down the road. They did a great job on this. Still prefer Rock Band 2, though.

It's pretty bullshit that they have no short hair option, though. All they have is the "buzz saw" haircut, which is a shaved head. I wanted to make Trent Reznor.

i didnt have to pay for my DLC from world tour, just had to download a free update. i know the dlc was free because i saw them in my playlist, playable while downloading the other songs. and on the subject of the song list, im am so happy that you dont have to play career mode to get the songs. career mode is fun, but sometimes you just want to jump in like i did with 3 friends tonight. well, now the bad news, my strum bar on my WT guitar is busted, it only registers about half the notes when strumming down, of course.

i did pay 280 points to import my world tour set list though.

is there not an option to download the smash hits songs?

21/48 songs from Smash Hits will be available for import:

Caught In A Mosh - Anthrax
Cult Of Personality - Living Color

I figured I'd chime in about this. You have to press up twice to get to the "new gig" option. It's seriously not that difficult, not sure why you had such a hard time navigating what should be a simple menu.
