Guitar Hero 5 - September dlc: Papa Roach, Godsmack and more!

I was curious as to how many people were doing that at GameStops around me with the used, sorry I mean "pre-owned", copies. One store almost every manual had been turned around to show the code in Smash Hits and World Tour. Another store had all the manuals behind the counter so no one could do that. Would've only known about the one store but trying to track down a complete copy of InFamous around here is near impossible. Freaking idiots and destroying the stuff.
 
I got a problem, when I got back on to play career, the first song I played was What I Got by sublime, it sound acoustic and barley could hear the vocals at all. Then later in the song, could only hear the crowd sing. Same thing with Du Hast and Pretty much every song now. It was not doing this 2 hours ago, anybody got suggestions? Also, my audio settings are all on default.

Whats the deal wl the lag at times? I have not had a lag problem on any game until GH5. I've tried the calibration option but it fixes nothing, WTF?

:roll: Eh, like that code is going to ride for 3-6 months until it hits the sale rack. Get real. That's why I said rent it first. At least that way you put some money up for it. If someone is that interested in the code they wouldn't be buying used to begin with.
 
The guitar is not the exact same, it has some improvements but I don't know the specifics as I didn't get it since I'm good with my WT one. It looks like the fret board is longer and I heard they added a few bumps on the slider part so you know where you are now. Obviously it looks different as well. I don't think they had to do much with the guitar as I find the WT guitar to work great. I think I watched Xplay and they mentioned they tweaked the strum bar too.

When will they release a rated M Guitar Hero? Seriously, It's kind of annoying at this point.
 
Yea I think they have the right to do whatever or maybe they did it to for the ESRB. I played one song and like the radio version there was a pause on the word they didn't want to be heard, not a big deal for me though.
 
There was a GH:VH reveal trailer released on marketplace today and the meta details say the following:

I guess that info had been released previously, but I had missed it somehow. I guess it is on par with the other GH games, but man, I'm not sure how many people are paying $60 for that. Probably why they offered the game for Free with a GH 5 purchase in September. That said $60 for both games is a very good deal.

I got an email confirmation earlier today that my Van Halen game is ready to be sent out. Still trying to decide whether to keep it or resell it. I don't really know the first thing about Van Halen, but Dope Nose is calling to me.
 
I got the email confirmation as well, its nice that they did that, wasn't expecting. I love Van Halen so I'm looking forward to this although I'm on GH: Metallica right now.
 
I've been playing music games since GH1 and I was super down on GH5 (wow, already 5) and had zero interest in it.

My friend brought it to a party we were having, and it was the most fun I've ever had with a music game. Just not having to fumble around with menu's and shit makes it infinitely times better. It is the most perfect design that makes it the best music game yet.

I'm NOT going to be able to go back to RB1, where it takes like 5 minutes to get into one song.

GH5 is a HUGE improvement over that turd GH:WT, but best ever? Not quite. The shitty soundtrack which is the key to the game holds it back. Of course, that's personal taste involved. GH5 does have some nice new features though.

What engine does GH:VH use? Is it still on WT like Metallica or is it on GH5's system?
 
I submitted my GHVH offer day 1 and as of 9/10 it said I should expect my game in 4-6 weeks.

This is week 6 so I double checked and now it says October 2, 2009 - Your redemption is currently in process.

I called the number and she said that means it's shipping today...

So not sure who to believe but here's hoping!

Wow, that's pretty bad. I don't understand why they can't just keep the rating at "T" and plaster this on the box:

Fyi the GH Van Halen doesn't have a jewel case or case inserts and is stamped all over with no resale. Wonder how gamestop will handle trades on it. (I guess disc only would work)

All three systems feature some sort of parental controls. I don't understand why they can't utilize that and filter out 'M' rated songs based on who is logged in.

This was the reason I didn't bother with getting it for free with GH5. Damn Activision for shipping it out already though. I want it now dammit.
 
I'm wishing I bought GH 5 lost month as well. If I knew it was going to ship this early, I'd have done it no question. Damn my moving sometime this fall and still not knowing when it's going to happen.

Ah, so I'm not the only one ;).

I got mine today as well. It appears to have shipped from MN and I'm on the West Coast so I'd expect most people who are getting the first batch to get them today or tomorrow.

As I wrote in the GH deal thread, I assumed it was a rejection notice with my original submission enclosed since it seemed like there was no way it could contain a game. It never occured to me this would come as a "promo" disc in a cardboard sleeve. Oh well...
 
i'm not bothered by the lack of case... i can always find an old case and print out cover art for it...

but the lack of a manual, even one sized for the promo sleeve, is kinda irritating. not that we shouldn't know how to play, since this came free with GH5... but still...

Internet sarcasm at its best. While I understand I got the game for free I would have not bought GH5 without the promo so I had expected a copy with a case, manual etc. (and marked not for resale was expected) But can't do anything about it now.

I'm having a huge amount of internal conflict about the game.

On one hand, holy fuck $120. I've never bought a Rock Band or Guitar Hero title so I'm not used to paying over $50 for a game.

On the other hand, holy fuck Daft Punk!

On the back of the sleeve there is a web address to print out a manual.
 
Well my status on the GHVH redemption site changed to Shipped yesterday so hopefully it will show up today!

Random thoughs:
Kinda cool that we are going to have the game almost 2.5 months before the "release" date. The fact that it comes in a plan sleeve is odd. The game must have gone gold, but they don't have the retail packaging available yet. For some reason I wouldn't be surprised if this game still doesn't get a standard retail release (I'm not even sure what this means, but I could see it hitting "Games on Demand" or some other format) especially with the whole "buy GH5, get GHVH free" and 2.5months before it releases. Also I watched the trailer on XBL for the game and didn't realize that they completely omitted Michael Anthony from the game, then again they are doing the same thing with Hagar and GH:M did it with Newstead and Burton. Oh well no more rants.

For those that have it, is this just GH:M but with Van Halen or did they bring over some of the new features from GH5 like party play, no instrument restrictions, etc?

EDIT - finally, for those that have it, if anyone wants to do some of the band achievements when I get it let me know.

I'm disappointed and all about Van Halen, but It'll be OK I guess. Like most of you I'll print a cover and I don't know about the manual... I like having them, but it's not a deal breaker.

Mine shipped Oct 1st, arrived yesterday (the 5th).

I don't know about the features - haven't played it yet. But you could download the manual to check into it I suppose:

It's GH: Metallica with Van Halen.

I'd love to get some of the BS band achievements. I'm only good at guitar and bass though. I need them for Smash Hits and 5 as well. Shoot me a friend request.
 
Since this seems to be the most active GH thread, I'll post here.

I'm new to the GH series, but have played rock band for quite some time. I recently picked up a wireless les paul controller on clearance, brand new in the box. I'm used to strumming in a downward motion away from your body (towards the floor) when playing RB, but I notice that this controller only allows me to strum upwards (towards me). Is this normal with the GH series of games? If not, is there a fix to this?

Exchange it though, it's the best guitar out there.

Yeah, mine did the same thing, but only after heavy use. The little plastic part snaps. If it was broken out of the box, definitely exchange it.
 
I don't mind the DVD sleeve for the Van Halen game, fits perfectly next to the manual in the GH5 case.

Cool, I sent you a FR. Actually these band ones shouldn't be too hard since they can be done on beginner. The problem is finding people to play, but I have at least one more and the fan is a damn good "singer" on beginner. ;)

So far I have actually been enjoying the game. Yes it is definitely GH:M with Van Halen, but the VH songs are excellent for the most part. They are definitely the type of band that you can 'forget' about and then when you have 25 of their top songs in front of you like this you get that "oh yea, that's why these guys were so popular" feeling hit you. The throw in tracks are solid for the most part, although there are some puzzling ones and some carryovers from other games and RB but whatever, you aren't going to get 100% winners in any music game.

They did make these achievements very hard though. 5 star every song on expert for all instruments? Complete the careen on Expert+? Whatev.

It also doesn't sit well with me that they cut Michael Anthony from the game, but I guess that is how it goes with bands. Especially when they replace the original bassist with the lead guitarist/band namesake's offspring.

Cool. Do you still need them in any of the other games? Aren't there similar ones in WT & GH5? What about Metallica? I guess I need to look them up again.
