Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 8/21 Dragonforce Track Pack

My friend and I just discovered an insane glitch in GHIII! I haven't searched the Internet, so this might be old news, but still:

We were in the Xbox Live mode doing Player Matches > Co-op. We were trying to 100% a song together for the "Legends...whatever it is" achievement. Frustrated at a particular part in the song, I exited out to the Practice mode, where I went over the troubling part a couple of times. Thinking I got it, we headed back to Live to Co-op it...

...and our song started at the exact point where I was having trouble!

It's crazy. We finished the song from that point, without missing a note, and I got my achievement! :hot:

He didn't though. I figured it was because I was hosting. We repeated the steps with him hosting, and it worked like a charm. He got his achievement next.

So we got to tinkering. Here's what we came up with:

Xbox Live > Player Match > Co-Op with a friend on your list.
Enter a song.
Play just a few seconds and then exit out.
Head back to the main menu, go to training, and select "Practice."
Play the last section of the song you chose.
Now, return to Xbox Live > Player Match > Co-Op and enter the song you just played in Practice mode.
You should start at the very end of the song...the spot you played in Practice mode!
This can help you get the 100% achievement!
(Only the one creating the match has to do these steps. The other person can just wait for the invite.)

What's more, if you then return to the Xbox Live > Player Match > Co-Op menu and do songs on Expert (we were doing 7 song sets), the game keeps putting you near the end of songs. In many cases, we would enter the song, only to see "You Rock!" The song would be cleared without us playing a note!

Some songs had us play portions at the end. Never really figured out why some songs did, and some didn't. Many of them we 5 starred, by basically doing nothing.

Sorry for the large post, but I am pretty excited at the moment. It was kinda funny and bizarre to find such a thing.

Note: Changing your character/difficulty/etc. should have no effect on the glitch. And if you are after that 100% achievement, it's only the person setting the game up that gets it.

I am going to bed now, but will post more tidbits if we figure them out later today.

I'm the said "friend" and everything he says is true...it was very weird/funny and an easy way to get 100% while in co-op:bouncy:

and yes, I realize how crappy it is to record your TV while playing, but it was the quickest thing I could think of at the moment...and I also realize how crappy the camera is and that the video would be better with sound:-({|=

Just to update everyone, we now stand at #31 on the Tour Group Rankings which means we are just a few spots from being on the top page of the leaderboard! One of the great things about the tour groups is that they are CROSS PLATFORM so everyone can join regardless of if you are playing on 360, PS3 or Wii! :D Now you can easily compare your results to others across platforms!

Lets get everyone signing up to represent the CAGs! If you have already signed up then lets start shredding online and gaining some more groupies!

Signed up for the tour group.

I concur about the timing issue in this game. I was never this bad in GHII.

I think my 3 favorite songs to play are: La Grange, Lay Down and My Curse. Barracuda is pretty fun, too. I hate that stupid Holiday in Cambodia.

When I went to the Adult Swim tour last week, the person who won the GHIII contest chose to play Holiday in Cambodia in front of everyone on the giant projector. I kept calling him a pussy. And he sucked at it, too. :D

I would have at LEAST played Number of the Beast...

Anyway, I haven't had any timing issues with this game.

I never realized how many crappy songs are on this game until I bought it and started playing through the career and bonus sections. Oh well. I'm still having fun with, and at least I can skip the songs I don't like. Can't get the achievements for them, but I'm not a whore for those.

Has anyone tried the code to unlock all songs? Weak, I know, but I hate those goddamn boss battles. I just want to play the songs, and try to get as many stars as I can, but I don't want to have to beat a boss first.

Actually there are a lot of great songs, but aren't necessarily fun to play. The tracklist was better on paper. I think I had more fun playing songs in II.

One thing is for sure, the cover songs in III destroy the covers in II. There are only a couple that are truly bad(Pride and Joy, LaGrange).

So, I'm having some pretty major issues here. When I start up the game it seems to take a little bit to get going, but when I click the "Press any button to rock" it sits there for like 1 minute+ before brining up the HDD to pick my storage device.

Then, the first time it will save, it'll take about a minute as well. After that, my theme for my friends list stuff is reset (I have a darker one set than the default). My gamerpic is gone, my gamerscore is at 0, etc. Yet, I'm still online because my friends list and messages still work.

While like that saving seems fine. And if I sign out of Xbox Live and sign back in things behave fairly normally (though saving still takes longer than it really should).

Anyone have any issues like this with GH3 or any other game? Any thoughts?

I noticed this game loads extremely fast to the point that I have to speed read the splash screens at load to make it through them. Then if I'm in career and just going from song to song, I don't have enough time to read them at all.

for the people that have bought the soundtrack...is it worth it for the 3 downloadable songs are am I better off spending my $10 somewhere else?

Eh, I would argue it isn't really worth it. I haven't tried them on Expert, but the Tina and AFI songs were somewhat fun on hard. The Manson remix is tough, but just repetitive and boring.

I've had more fun so far with the Foo Fighters and Velvet Revolver packs than with this pack. On the plus side, you do get the metal version of Devil Went Down to Georgia on the CD (unless you would rather acquire it by other means).

You'd be better off purchasing the Foo Fighters or Velvet Revolver song packs IMO. The Marilyn Manson song is just plain awful!

I signed up for the CAG tour group, as well

It's that inital time when it hangs looking for the harddrive and the inital saves that sorta seems to log me out of Live but not really that's the problem...

EDIT: The update seemed weird when it happened. I think I might try to clear the cache tonight and see if that helps.

Apparantly the boss battle pack is up for download, and it's the best price: Free.

From what I gather, in the devil went down to georgia, you play the devils part. And my friend is telling me its much harder than Through the Fire and Flames for him.

Yeah the boss battle pack is up, downloading it now, won't get a chance to try the songs out until I get home from work tonight. Wasn't expecting them to be up today which is nice.

Well this is good news that the Boss Battle pack is out and free, but man, Rock Band already has lined up DLC for every week between launch and xmas and I'm sure there is more to come including the full album downloads. What they annoucned so far is cheaper than GHIII and you can buy individual songs too. I hope GHIII has some tricks up their sleeve for for the next 6 weeks because they really dropped the ball on DLC for GHII.

Should be interesting...

My guess is that GH content won't budge unless until they get blown out of the water by RB. Then we may see some price breaks and better bundles.

me and my friend where just sayin the other day that we should be able to play the boss battle songs just in quick play as they are some of the better songs in the game, glad to see they came through with this today.

One of the other gaming podcasts was just talking about how the GH dl's should be more like iTunes, where you can purchase 1 song at a time. It will be interesting to see the chaos that will follow RB's first round of dl's.

Will this Boss Battle ALWAYS be free? Just curious if I should download it now, and maybe use it eventually if I get GHIII. If not, I will wait and save some space.

There are no guarantees that it will always be free. I always pick up every DLC pack that is released for free even if I dont have the game. Figure I might get it someday and i'd rather be safe than sorry.

How big is the download, BTW?

I DL'd it a few hours ago. I'm pretty sure it was around 77mb.

Don't forget that you can always re-d/l anything by going to your d/l history. I would think you could d/l it and then delete it to save space. Then d/l it again when you need it without having to pay for it since technically you already "own" the item. That's how I understand it anyway.

Dear god, Morello on hard is a bitch. I don't even want to try Slash or DWDTG just yet...

On another note, I still think that Neversoft is WAY to generous with the 5-star rankings in this game on expert. I could barely finish expert on GHII, and yet I've already 5-starred more songs on expert than I ever did there. Hell, it took the White Zombie song to give me my first 3-star (and Tenacious D will probably be the next).

Perhaps you're just getting better.

Alright, I think I got everything working properly now. The update still never said it went through, but I'm not getting that messed up behavior anymore and it doesn't tell me to update each time I start the game, so that's good.

I tried linking my gamertag to the guitarhero.com setup and it was telling my that it couldn't find the password or something. Not sure what I was screwing up, but maybe I tried it too soon? I had only played one match online when I tried and it was the first time I had logged into the Live component of the game.
Perhaps you're just getting better.
Oh, I'm not denying that. There's been a gradual curve of improvement over each GH game I've played, but I'm also very modest. :D It just seems like I'm getting ratings I don't deserve based on my missed notes, etc. Not that it's too easy, but that the game is too generous, if that makes sense.

I think the lower-tier songs in GH3 are a lot easier than those in GH2, but the last couple of tiers are much tougher. Plus, like -Never4ever- said, you're probably just getting better, much better than you realize. ;)

They have been having some intermittent problems with getting gamertags linked and accounts created due to the higher than anticipated traffic on the site. I suggest going back into the xbox live menu in the game, getting the code and trying to link it again on the site. That seems to be working for people.

As for the group we are holding right around 30th right now. We got a nice shout out on CAGcast #97 this week from CheapyD so hopefully we will get a boost in sign ups! :bouncy: Here is the link!

Anyone else think they withheld these songs from other game modes on purpose? I mean really, they're obviously on the game disc already. I think they just held them back to say "See! We're giving you free songs, we're not so bad. Now go buy the other packs!". I'm not one to complain about free stuff, but technically we paid for these tracks already when buying the game. :whistle2:(

Fine, I'll take the compliment. :D

I hadn't heard that 2.8 multiplier average before though. Interesting, I'll have to start looking at that...

I did a search through the thread, but didn't see this mentioned. Is the wireless Les Paul guitar going to be available separately? I noticed some places have the PS3 and Wii versions available, but not the 360.

Any word on this?
I just played the demo and this game is FAR off from GHII...it just doesn't feel right. Doe sthis change over time or am I going to waste $60 on this?
How so? The retail game feels pretty good to me, as did the demo.

I doubt it. Every little thing in a game takes extra work, more than you might think. I'm sure it just wasn't ready yet.

finally got this game [ thanks to yourfree360games.com ] and have a few questions about the guitar:

1. when you attach the neck and it clicks, you can still push the neck down into the body a bit more but it springs back into place... is that normal?

2. the strum bar feels loose. if you grab it in it's neutral position it moves quite a bit. my x-plorer isn't like this. is this normal too?

To answer your first question, yes. To the second, no. My strum bar doesn't feel like that.
