Guitar Hero: World Tour - Gen. Discussion & Info
I cant believe they didnt release this damn game yet. They let rock band beat them to the game release and the bundle release. Anyone who was on the fence would have most likely went with rock band already.

Stand alone game might warrant some but not a lot I think.
I see your point about an early release, but I really think GH:WT will outsell Rock Band 2 by a good clip. It's still "the" franchise for most people who aren't heavily involved in gaming (like most of us).

There's also some element of pooch-screwing that may have been the case w/ EA only releasing the 360 stand-alone software 4-5 weeks back. They could have done all 3 versions, or better yet, released bundles as well. Rock Band standalones are being sold to those who own the instruments; this market battle is being fought to get the bundles into peoples' homes.
Not that its impossible, if given the time and effort its beatable, but when you know the song, and I guess being a guitar player Im shaking my head thinking about where theyre getting these notes from. I mean the intro looks good, I could nitpick but I wont, but it's similar to how its actually played, but the main riff is horrendously overcharted, and the solo also.

I mean its either a change of philosophy going from Harmonix to Activision (harder=better?) or that they no longer have actual musicians making the charts like they do at HMX.
My guess is the former.

And I guess since I don't play guitar myself, the overcharting doesn't bug me as much. That said, I still prefer the old guitar hero 2 charts tenfold.
If anyone has an Ion drum set, they do not work with Guitar Hero World Tour.

Hopefully they release a patch for that.
I am sure it works being the RB ones work just will have a 4 pad setup instead of 5.
I am sure it works being the RB ones work just will have a 4 pad setup instead of 5.
...It doesn't work.

dammit, I was gonna wait on the game but now I find myself shopping around for a bundle online, simply because I want the drums. Damn you Activision!!!! :wall:
I'm getting this from YF360G too. Would've probably purchased it anyway. I'm a sucker for these games, even though I prefer Rock Band.
Yea, I always go the YF360G route on the GH bundles, its the most expensive thing on that site so I like maximizing my credit. Too bad they didn't offer the full band kit, but they didn't for RB, so not surprising. I might pick up the GH drum kit from YF360G if they are ever released that way and the site picks them up. The only problem is the Sunday release date means there is no way we have it at release, but my GH:A bundle showed up the day after release so who knows.

are there any good deals on the band kit out there? It's $190 everywhere I've checked. CC has an iTunes gift card or something but that does little to sway me. Or how about one of those coupon codes that can only be used on purchases of $100 or more... any major retailers have one of those going on?

I went to all my local game stores and they say that they cant take anymore reserves and that they have only ordered enough to fill the reserves meaning they wont have any to sell in store on release day. I know they do this because they dont have room for the oversized boxes. Can someone point me in the direction to where I can buy it on the day it is released? Does anyone know if Walmart, Target, CC, Best Buy or Frys will have some in stock on release day? I really dont want to pay $239.99 on line instead of 189.99 in store.

I've been watching videos online, and it seems if you have the RB1/2 drums and are planning on using them with guitar hero world tour, you're going to be fucked on some songs.
Namely songs like Everlong and Crazy Train.
Usually, on Rock Band, the red turns into a hi-hat and yellow will turn into a snare for songs that have fast hi-hat parts, so that you're able to hit the snare (yellow) with ease.
The thing is, though, the GHWT are made for the GHWT drums, so the snare parts will be in red, and the fast hi-hat parts in yellow. That means that it's going to be reallyREALLY hard to do these songs (on expert, mind you).

i guess it also goes the other way (using the GH drums on RB1/2), although I imagine it being a bit easier than using the RB drums on GHWT.
It'll be interesting to see what their DLC plan will be.
This. I'm sure I'll end up getting rid of the game after playing through and getting the achievements unless there is some amazing DLC

Hey, wasn't I the one saving you the other day when we were playing Painkiller, and you died every other measure, Romango?

No, but really, it's pretty impossible to do with the RB drum kit configuration.

After playing 3 songs, I've got a few first impressions:

Pros:
5 Levels Rather than 4 (For Drums At Least)

Cons:
Atrocious Interface
Hard to see score multiplier
Hard to see bass pedal notes (The purple color is too close to the dark blue background)
You have to use directional pad to navigate

Yeah, so I was rooting for this game over RB2, but it's just not happening.

I am tempted to order a stand-alone drumkit on eBay, but I feel like it's a bad idea. I'm assuming I would be out of luck if I had to RMA it somewhere down the road. Do you need some sort of proof of purchase from the retail packaging when you do an RMA? Does it matter if I buy a band kit from a secondhand retailer, as long as it comes in an original sealed package? I really don't MIND going the eBay route, as long as I'm entitled to the same hardware coverage that I'd get if I bought the kit at BB or something.

The GH:WT DLC is no on XBLM and it is...

At least it's copying the Rock Band price range of things and can buy seperate (thank God). Though we'll see how consistent.

Also...
She's a beauty if you can afford it.
Yeah she is but seriously?

Once you start shelling out that much cash for a toy, its about the time to buy a real guitar and learn to play it.

And I am fully against those people who also groan on about "learn to play real drums/guitar/ sing" but you start dropping 3-4-5 hundreds bucks on a video game instrument I think you have a slight problem.

Or you really rich to begin with.
I can't wait for this game! It's looking great so far.
I hope you don't mean that literally, because, man, the visuals look like shit.
Wow. That looks pretty nice, but if I were going to shell out that kind of money for a fake instrument for a videogame, I'd get the RockBand 2 Premium Drum Kit, which can also be used as a real drum kit. I know this is a GHWT thread, but still (also, it is believed to be compatible with GHWT).
Not the Ion.
Not the Ion.
Sorry, after googling a little more, I see that you are correct. I was going by the FAQ on the DrumRocker website, which still states that the kit is expected to work with GHWT, even though it does not. That may be remedied at some time in the future, however (or it may not).
For anyone who has played this game, is it worth getting? I mean it seems like the same game with a few additions.
I Think the most that people here have played is the demo, but basically I think I think it'll come down to this...

If you liked Guitar Hero III (meaning the note charts and design and such) more then Rock Band and the setlist catches your fancy more then RB2 then I don't see how you can't. Other then that instrument wise the guitar is much better then Rock Band, but so far the demo drums have...Left alot to be desired since the cymbals aren't of the highest quality.
I don't plan on getting the instruments, just the game. The setlist does catch my eye (Scream Aim Fire ;))
I Keep looking at the setlist and I keep seeing Coldplay and I shake my head.

My purchase of GH:WT basically hinges on the drum set. If the RB2 kit turns out to be better, then I'll buy that and just get around to a game-only GH:WT eventually. If the GH:WT drums are generally agreed to be preferable, then I'm camping out for a midnight opening at BB and buying the full band kit!

I've been holding out on buying a drum controller of any kind, specifically in light of the impending GH:WT release. So this weekend it's put-up or shut-up time!
I Keep looking at the setlist and I keep seeing Coldplay and I shake my head.
But then I see "Beat It" and I rock out like no tomorrow!!!

The charts are much better than GH3's.

Then I think about "Eat it" and remember there are starving kids in Japan.
The charts are much better than GH3's.
So I can't have a seizure of colors coming at me anymore? AKA Raining Blood intro.
Then I think about "Eat it" and remember there are starving kids in Japan.
There can't be a reference to "Beat It" without me thinking of "Eat It". One (or both) of these games needs to release a Weird Al pack.
I hope you don't mean that literally, because, man, the visuals look like shit.
Of course I mean that literally. I love the extremely over the top visuals of guitar hero. I saw the encore video of Crazy Train the other day and there were these enormous tentacles picking up fans from the crowd. That's my style ;)
So wait, the drums are now supposed to be worse than Rock Band 2? What the hell?
All I've heard is that the "cymbal" pads on some in-store demo units have got a couple of people nervous. I'm still chomping at the bit for legit, hands-on impressions from an unbiased civilian end user!

Yeah, those cymbals are going to break pretty quick around here. Luckily, I have access to a shear and break, so I'll be reinforcing the drums with some 16 gauge aluminum. (I did it to my rock band drums and they're sturdy as hell.)

Well fuck, if the cymbals break easy I'd rather go with rock band and it's replaceable cymbals.

But then again half those kts are fucked. ARG
So I can't have a seizure of colors coming at me anymore? AKA Raining Blood intro.
Actually, the intro to RB isn't overcharted. If anything, the actual part would require an extra shift up the neck, or at as far as I can tell from videos I've seen.

Touche, I only bring that one up because it was one of the first songs on the last tier that made me go "HOLY SHIT! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Though still love that song...
