Guitar Hero: World Tour - Gen. Discussion & Info

I don't know what everyone talk about they both are good in there own ways I personally like how Guitar Hero notes work better.

Drums regardless either company these things are plastic you want something not going break you got to spend the money for it same thing with anything.

Song Selection is preference either way. I like GH and RB I love how Gh finally got Tool, Lp, Blink, Korn. While Rb has more weezer and an more of old school rock in it. Though I do like how up to date RB is with adding track packs each week.

Personality whatever the hell that means I love Judy Nails, but I dont care who I play as.

Rock band has 4 player online when Gh has 8 which I think is sick!. Don't forget Neversoft put out Thps3 for Ps2 first ever online game. They know how make online work.

Red ocatane makes better instruments then who ever is making hmx.

All in all though as you see I do like Gh better, but I still like rb a lot as well.

Fixed and oh man, we can have looooong debates on this. Les Paul detachable neck vs. gummy strum bar. It isn't about who's better, but instead the lesser of two evil's instrument wise.

Haha so basically what I am saying it is like 50/50. They both have work down the line and will being see tons of controllers coming out anyways with how popular this game is becoming it will be almost real in that way some people like Gibson over Fender, Some people like Pearl Over Ddrum and so on. whatever you like its up to you. If your like me and just see it as a more of I love games if its good i can care less then it doesn't matter to me.

OK so to those who have used the GH:WT drum kit - would you say that the cymbals are about on par with the regular pads from the RB ONE kit... or worse? or better? I ask because it seems most complaints about the GH kit so far have stemmed from the cymbals.

Anyone try to switch the symbols with the other slot. And see how the orange one works in the yellow spot or however its setup.

"+There are new guitar fret combinations, specificaly when there is a long fret you're holding down different notes will appear so you got to hit that while holding down the long fret."

Do you mean chords? could you rephrase that Im not sure what youre trying to say.

Thanks for that link. Looks like I'll be going with the Game/Guitar bundle and picking up the Rock Band 2 drums with my hastings credit.
Hey guys here is a really in depth review of the drums compared to the Rb ones. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=325585&t=973621
much thanks for that link. It is an enlightening review... the only problem I see is that a lot of his complaints stem from the reviewer's experience with actual drums. If I've never touched a real drum set in my life, I'm not sure if the placement of the cymbals would really be an issue for me. Meanwhile he said that it's quieter on the whole than the RB2 drums, which is pretty important to me. Hmm...:whistle2:k

I'm getting the guitar bundle...I'll just play with my RB drums till I hear some more feedback on the GH set, hopefully I'll get to play with it a little at gamestop tonight

I think the real thing is Hmx + RedOctane made a perfect team and it should have never split up. We would have had perfect instruments if they didn't and a perfect game.

The hi-hat to snare comment is really important. In RB, there a quite a few songs where this comes into play - the biggest example in RB2 would be Everlong.

It's too bad I've never actually played the GHWT set, but I'd really like to see how this feels. 'course the problem is I doubt Everlong woulda been unlocked on the demo unit anyway.

On the bass pedal - sounds like GHWT missed an absolutely HUGE opportunity. RB1 and RB2 both suffer from a pedal that is way too stiff for double-bass hits (16th's at high BPM's). Low BPM songs allow a half-assed effort, but seriously the RB stock pedals just aren't capable. From the SDer's review, it certainly doesn't sound like anything's been done to reduce stiffness.

Watch this video of Santeria on expert and you'll see what he means:
Does anyone know if walmart will have the kits out to play with tonight at the midnight launch?
Mine's had it out for a few days.

I still didnt see what he was talking about.

Also, god damn that was brutal to watch. The presentation is god awful.

it really feels like there's no hype for this game unlike there was for the first Rock Band game. I guess the whole band game thing is getting worn out, despite the fact that you can see almost entire sections devoted to these guitars and drum sets.
Does anyone know if walmart will have the kits out to play with tonight at the midnight launch?
I used the new guitar tonight at my Walmart. Felt like all the others really.

You serious?

You have to hit notes while still holding other notes down. It does it right at the beginning. He still has to hit blue and yellow while continuing to hold the red note down

I have been playing it for 5 days now and its trumphs rock band 2. The the new guitar is far superior than what rock band has to offer, the songs are fantastic, but thats a matter of opinion, but its the gameplay that makes such a difference. When you play on expert you feel like your actually playing along, if you like guitar hero, this is the shit, if you like rockband, this will probably be a lot more difficult, but you will definitely like it.

Anybody here using the Guitar Hero World Tour drums on Rock Band 2 rather than vice-versa? I just got it for the PS3, but the drums do not work on Rock Band 2. It recognizes it as a microphone!

Wonder if the PS3 got the short end of the stick again?

well I've been planning on hitting up a local BB's midnight launch and things are coming down to the wire.

Of course I've got all these DOUBTS about the drumset now, but we'll see. I might just choose to believe that, as a first time video game drummer, I won't really notice the flawed cymbals.

Hmm but something I thought of about the cymbal layout... the location of the cymbals probably makes it easier to use the kit in RB... since both games can use the same color layout... that's a good thing right? Ha I'm trying to convince myself to go through with the PLAN
So who has the drums?

I love the way they are built. They look and feel sturdy. Will they hold up in the long run? Who knows. I am trying to get used to them... Been playing Rock Band and Rock Band 2 and to go from those drums to these are a bit of a pain. I continue to look at the cymbals most of the time. Can't get a real good groove yet. I was never an expert drummer, though. Unless you count Silver. ;) I believe they will feel more natural with time.

The guitar, of course, kicks the Strat in the butt over and over. There is no doubt at all which is better.

Yeah, I know the guitar kicks the shit out of it, I just need to know if the Gh drums are better than the rb2 drums (with cymbals lolol)

Hell, I really would like to get that ION kit, but I'm about to have to start paying for car insurance.

They also work vice versa with RB, and has a Midi in it for E-drums and probably some cool computer hacks to come out.

Then I am probably not the best to answer your question. I still have a Rock Band 1 EL drum kit which has not broken and no pedal has snapped. One in a million? lol. I played every song on Easy/Medium/Hard. Tried a few and passed a few on Expert. But not very good there yet. Probably an Expert tour would kill the kit and pedal? ;)

ION is probably the best way to go if you are serious. But these Guitar Hero World Tour drums do not seem bad at all. My biggest fear was answered when I put the drum kit together. No stores around me had any demos or kits, so this was my first time with them. I thought the cymbals would fly off or something, but there is a knob-like device which you put at the very top of the cymbals and everything really holds up. Was pleasantly surprised by them.

Actually, this is what I would like you Xbox 360 users to chime in about. They currently do not work on the PS3 version of Rock Band 2. And I was wondering if it was the same for Xbox 360 users.

Would be interesting if it worked for one and not the other. Or if neither work. Let's hope a patch is underway.

I'm actually pretty much the same level of skill as you then 7, but my kick pedal has snapped and I'm rocking a crappy replacement from the rock band hit kit that makes it nigh impossible to do doubles, which is the main reason I want a new kit.

I still am wondering if there will be a patch to let you use the RB2 cymbals in Guitar hero with 5 lanes. (that is worded really badly, but I think you guys can understand it)

It is backwards with the 360. I am sure they will patch it for ps3 though. Hopefully same thing wont happen that happened last year with the gh3 guitar for ps3 owners.

Anyone how to get the Guitar Hero drumset to work with Rock Band 2? I just finished playing GH4 for a while, and now I want to switch... but it seems as though Rock Band just thinks it's a normal controller.
is there a universal code for to unlock all the songs from that gamestop promo, and if so can somebody post it.
according to the slip I got, in order to redeem the 84 song unlock code you would have to:

1. go to http://www.guitarheroauditions.com/

2. go to the "pre order it? click here to unlock your 84 song code" link

3. Enter the transaction number located on your pre-order receipt.

Alright, fuck the Guitar Hero drums. Shouldn't have ever trust a game called Guitar Hero with drums, but fuck it I did and in less then two days it's fucked. The cymbals have gotten to the point where if you smack one it may count it as a red note as well. So my consensus is Rock Band 2: Drums >>>>>>>>>>> Guitar Hero: WT Drums. The fact that they hype how sturdy it is repeatedly (looking at you Travis Barker) and it turns out to crap out like this (with it already being a bitch to register a hit on it in the first place) in less then two days, then Red Octane can suck it.

Also more I look at the presentation the more I hate it. The Havok engine is really needed for this game? Really? The ONLY time the animation makes a difference or hit's it's pinnacle is when the singer dances during Thriller and THAT'S IT. At first it didn't bother me, but playing two hours at my friend's house and it's really dawned on me that this game has disappointed me totally. That and Tool is great on paper, but Schism is really one of those songs that will bore your other bandmates...

Oh yeah and got around to singing in the game and basically you can't tell how you're doing when singing a verse, so another strike for the presentation. That and some of the parts that should be talky, aren't and even the dot that detects your pitch keeps going so it is a bit distracting. Also instead of cowbell you just got to make random noise during songs (and you will get it alot in this game).

So once more, good for guitar and bass. Though for parties and everything else, stick to Rock Band 2 because this game is undeserving of the hype and media blitz that we'll soon get...

This is the first review I've seen... not a good start.

maybe there are bad sets out there or something, but its 6 am in california... my and my brothers just finished a 5 hour marathon of guitar hero and the consensus is the drums are great and superior to rock band's. no problems here with symbols needing to be hit hard or being mixed with the wrong colors. plus id say the new guiar is the best one of the bunch by far. as for the mics, theres really no difference as far as i can tell, but in game it seems like guitar hero is less forgiving on pitch. but still, i like the career mode in ghwt more than rock band 2, its just easier to navigate and seems to keep to the point more, a lot less (if any) repetition here. at this point the only problem with it i have is that weve played for 5 hours + and everyone is tired.

My GH drums work perfect. I don't have to hit the cymbals dead on, extremely hard or any of that nonsense. There's no cross registering between the pads either. My only complaint is the cymbals drop lower while playing (from hitting on them) but a small piece of plastic tube can fix that.

Bard, you can see how you're doing to the right of the vocals. Lose your multiplier and you did worse.

The drums work great in RB (The main reason I got them). I mostly got the pack for the instruments, but GH:WT will be a nice little add on to play when Im bored of RB.

I hope most of the negative talk this is getting on message boards isn't from biased RB fanboys :| I'm a huge RB fan myself, but I have no complaints about my instruments.
