Guitar Hero: World Tour - Gen. Discussion & Info
All things considered, it's a great way to play these great artists, but since they were late to the DLC bandwagon, I have too much invested in RB to blow a bunch on GH DLC. I want to get Blind Melon, some Nirvana & Smashing Pumkins, but I think I'm going to wait it out and see if they hit RB.
You hit the nail on the head right there. That's my exact same line of reasoning for why RB will always be my preferred platform for DLC. Any time something good comes out for GH, my first reaction will be to wait it out and see if RB ends up getting it. Once you've got a huge library available from one disc, you wanna put all your eggs in THAT basket, so to speak.

Even with WT's ugly-as-sin interface, it would be my "main" platform if it had the bigger tracklist. But with an export-enhanced RB2, I am really reluctant to invest in anything else!

Just got my USB to MIDI cable from RedOctane. Too bad I'm still waiting for my 360 to come back home. Pretty neat that they give these out for free, I can use it with all my electronic musical equipment now for MIDI controlling.

Just picked up a used copy of this game today. Not really all the impressed so far. Especially with the DLC, not a whole lot there really.

Boo, my $60 GH:WT guitar only bundle has a broken guitar now too. Thought I was lucky it wasn't dead out of the box. It's only been played for a little over two weeks, and probably only a total of 6 hours on it. The dreaded non detection of the down strum, of course, it happened while I was practicing up strumming so I just thought I was really messing up. Not sure if it can go back to Amazon for an exchange or refund or I'll pay shipping to Activision, which makes no sense at all. Amazing that all my guitars from I, II, and III are all fine.

Update, a few hours after I emailed Amazon about an exchange or refund, they replied (5AM!) and by 11AM they had a new GH:WT Guitar Kit for the 360 on it's way to me, along with the link to print the return label postage paid by them. Awesome. Hopefully this next guitar is more reliable or I'll have to go the Radio Shack route and replace the switches myself.
My guitar was dead out of the box! I held down the "connect" button and nothing happened. What the fuck?
By any chance did you have four controllers connected already? Batteries in the guitar? Pressed the sync button on the console? I'm just trying to think of every possibility here!

I got this game last week and have been loving it. Last year, I hated GH3 compared to RB1 because I felt GH3 was soulless, but this year, GHWT blows RB2 way out of the water for me. I like it's look, it's superiour soundtrack, and it's just more plain fun, unlike RB2 which is just more of the same.

I believe the exact opposite of everything you just said. :p

Also, I am considering upgrading my guitar from the X-Plorer - can anyone give their opinions on RB2 vs. GH:WT controllers, or should I stick with my trusty X-Plorer? I already have a wireless Les Paul, but I prefer the X-Plorer so it is going to my cousin.

I think it's an acquired taste. For some reason, RB2 just didn't click with me the way RB1 did (which I was horribly addicted to). Also, and I know it's snobbyish, ever since I picked up a real instruent, I can't play these games on main guitar without thinking i'm just hitting buttons to an MP3...:(
anyone know a good microphone to buy for this game... or when the Red Octane one is being released?
Looking for one myself...not so much into the drum thing (well...maybe, but the apartment's just to small :whistle2:|), just want the guitar and mike.

Apparently *ANY* USB mike will work, so I am looking at this one by Logitech: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/xbox_360/devices/3505&cl=us,en

Hoping to find it somewhere today and will give report to see if/how it plays.
Yup my guitar has bit the dust partially:bomb:, strumming works if you strum up but not down, and the slider still works but I've gone to playing with th guitar I got from GHIII. So quick question, if I return this to Best Buy, do I need to return the game as well or can I just return the guitar? I still have the box as well. Wow, you'd think with the money I paid for this guitar that it would have lasted longer than this and I'm not a heavy GH player nor a metal strum grinder.
Just got back from the mall, replaced my guitar bundle for another one and got in-store credit because its now 79.99 instead of 99.99 for the bundle.:bouncy:Used the credit to purchase End War. I'm going to try and see if I can get 5 more free songs with this new guitar and manual, hehehe.:D Rock on!

Thanks for all the heads up on the Bumm guitars.
I was going to get the guitar bundle so I could get my 5 free songs.
But now I think I'll just stick with the game disc only, and keep using my GHIII guitar.
Now that a few retailers have it at 44.99.

*UPDATE* So I got both the guitar bundle and the Logitech microphone last week at CC...the mike works fine, so anyone wanting one now because there's nothing in sight direct from Red Octane go get it. Had lots of fun with it over the weekend.

One thing about the guitar, darn I hate that touch strip! I had to disable it because something kept triggering it...light or something and it kept registering as a strum when clearly I was not...very frustrating.

Well I grabbed a warranty on my new guitar, decided that after a while the guitar probably will not work so got a 3yr plan for $9.76 with SquareTrade using WARRANTYSANTA, chaching.
so you think that mic works as good as the one that Red Octane makes... when it one day is sold separately?
No idea, but I've kind of middle-low voice and wifey has that pitchy, squeaky voice. The mike worked fine for both of us and it responded on-screen as well as I could expect, if that's any help.

I don't know much about this game, can Guitar Hero 3 songs be imported into World Tour? My friend has both and I'm not really versed on the music games.

My guitar's blue button appeared to die after just six songs. I say "appeared to" because I tried it a bit later with RB2 and it worked fine for the few songs I tried. WTF?

Sooo is the 5 Free DLC still working? The site is still up and I will be receiving my bundle in a few days and was wondering if I was gonna be able to get my Eagles track pack for free. :)

So how do I get these 5 free songs everyone is talking about? I recently received my guitar bundle from Yourfree360games

hmm... I just remembered that my copy of the game actually came from a guitar bundle (purchased on eBay). I have the "owner ID" in the manual, but where would I find the serial number that the site prompts me for? Would that be on the guitar itself (in which case, I'm outta luck)?

Yeah, my guitar is junk. Blue button *may* work for 5-10 minutes and then just fizzles out. Back to Costco it goes. What a PITMFA.

It should be inside the battery compartment. I don't remember if you have to take the batteries or not, but I do remember that you can't miss it. Just take off the cover.

heh, may as well email the guy.

Thanks for the heads up on the DLC promotion still being active, I just got mine today and its good to see some free stuff for actually caving in and getting this on top of RB2.
Are people getting their 5 free songs, I've not heard a thing or gotten my email yet.
After registering, it says either 4-6 or 6-8 weeks (can't remember which), so it'll still take some time.

Free Springsteen DLC coming:

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2009/01/13/the-boss-springsteen-is-coming-to-world-tour/

Activision just announced that Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen will be making his video game debut on Guitar Hero World Tour later this month. Tuesday, January 27th to be exact. The Springsteen DLC will be released as a FREE download through February 4th and include the tracks "Born to Run" and "My Lucky Day" off his latest album Working on a Dream. If you wait until after February 4th to download the Springstreen tracks, expect to pay 320 MS points.

The Springsteen pack sucks. My favorite songs by him are pretty light on guitarwork though. Spirits In The Night, Atlantic City, etc. Prove It All Night would have been cool though. Can't beat free though. They probably figured it would be unwise to sell songs by a hero of the working man. Hence the temporary gratis period.

was about to buy this for 60$ on amazon, never been a fan of the genre but for 60$ ill give it a try. Whats weird is i listen to a lot of music and am not a fan of these games. I have over 15k songs in itunes. how is the dlc and do a lot of good songs get uploaded in the creater? I would assume there are certain people that do make really good tracks and some that are extremely dumb.

RedOctane makes better guitars IMHO, but Rock Band 2 is the better game overall. DLC library for the Rock Band series dwarfs the couple track packs that have been put out for GHWT. $60 for game and new guitar is still a good deal to play some of the exclusive songs on GHWT. Definitely check out Rock Band 2 if you enjoy these types of music games.

GH gets an irregular trickle of DLC, whereas RB is guaranteed new content every week.

Best course of action is to buy RB2, then borrow/rent/mail-train a RB1 disc and pay $5 in points for the "export." At that point you'll already have a huge library of songs, and you'll never want to bother "starting over" with DLC for a different game. I honestly don't think I'll bother downloading anything for GHWT, because at this point I already have a huge investment in RB2 that I'd rather just keep adding to that library.

GHWT's only real use for me is the single player. But when I've got people over, I put in RB2 and there is no motivation to ever switch discs.

Can't say it any better myself. But I do enjoy the WT guitar more for some reason, that is, before the strum bar started to screw up on the down strums. At least they're replacing it for free.

well, this is mostly for single player. Friends are all in toledo and bowling green that play this game. Kent i am with friends that hate the genre with me. I guess ill hit up this deal and see if i can get rockband 2 on the cheap somewhere.

As far as hardware goes I actually have preferred the GH guitars (never tried the RB2 guitar... definitely didn't care for the RB1 guitar though)
