Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

Liquid: Done, I'll be on by 11pm. The combination of a physics geek and a math geek will triumph over all. But I don't want to do level 8 again...

Duck: Join if you so please. Send me an FR. Please specify you are from CAG so I don't get confused.

Steve: Open your campaign lobby, and when you choose a level, it lists the highest difficulty completed for both SP and coop when you highlight the level.
I think I need to do Chapters 2-6 on Legendary to finish that up. How do you check which levels you've completed on which difficulty?
just go to campaign form the title screen and then go to switch the mission, u can see what u have completed for both solo and coop for each level.

Let's say I beat a few levels on Legendary solo and then some on Co-op. Does that make any difference for completing the game on Legendary?

wtf is with the terminal achievement?
i have been to every terminal, i have hit the green button until there is nothign more. most of the time after a coupel screens of text i get the red screen and then it, "searches" and brings up more text.
id say half of them had a fragment ends here.
do they have to accessed in order?

No, you just have to make sure it goes to that red error screen then you read the rest of what it has to say. I had the same problem also.

No you don't have to get them all in order. Just get to fragment ends and that's it.

Tried tonight with a couple of friends to get the metagame achievements. Utter waste of time. We suck, and Im reremined of how much I cannot fucking stand the campaign of Halo. Worst single player fps Ive played in years. Im gonna stick to the multiplayer and who cares if Im missing a couple of fucking helmets?

Play on a lower difficulty?
Play on a lower difficulty?
Were playing on Normal with some skulls turned on. We just suck as a team I think. I dont even care, cos I didnt even like playing thru these campaign levels the first time. Now after getting all skulls and terminals, this is easily the 4th+ time Im going thru these levels and I just dont have the stomach for it.

It sucks cos my friends suck at multiplayer, and campaign is all they want to play, and Im the opposite. I love playing against real humans and cant stand the campaign mode. So basically we can never play with each other.

To get the Legendary achievement can you just finish the last mission on Legendary?

On another note...this game needs a fucking patch fast...I had the security shoulders and now it says that they are locked...WTF!!!! Also I want my damn Graduate achievment...also I wish there was a way to exclude maps you never want to play, for instance, I fucking hate "Isolation". Worst fucking map ever! Enough venting...I'm having a bad day....

Being able to sort servers by map and game type is apparently some sort of technological hurndle that may never be overcome. Perhaps in another few generations of copnsoles you may be able to play what you want, when you want. If Moores law holds up...

Bummer...I should have played through it on Legendary first...I really have no desire to finish the game again soon.

One more silver skull for me, woooo!

The meta-game achievements are individual based: each person must score 15000 or 50000 on his/her own to get the achievement for that level.

Honestly, it's a hell of a lot easier to do it by yourself than as a team. Just go for lots of battle rifle/carbine headshots and try to get the 1.5 time multiplier at the end.

Finally got all the skulls tonight. Pretty awesome when you are playing co-op with 3 others who know where to find them with their eyes closed. And yeah, I heard the easiest way for high metagame scores is to play by yourself on normal with multiple skulls turned on.
Sorry about leaving the game earlier, I got kicked due to my crappy internet connection. Were you guys able to finish on Legend?
Ah, don't worry. My service has that problem sometimes, too.

We finished chapter 7, then they dragged me into matchmaking for an hour.

Look me up tomorrow if you wanna do anything for chapters 4-6. I'll be on/off throughout the day while I finish up homework, or just let me know a good time.
Hey I was there. I rule.
Indeed you were. Indeed you do.

Further evidence of my sucktitude was when I decided to jump out of the Warthog and walk in the last level.

wow, if you hate i dunno why youd even bother in the first place.
to anybody else wondering, its FAR easier to get the metagame scores by yourself.

thanks to those who replied to my previous question.
Is anyone else getting The Pit as the level on Team Slayer every fuckin' game?
We got it literally 5 times straight earlier tonight.
That is what I HATE about matchmaking. You never get what you want, so you always end up playing a shitty map like The Pit like 5 times a night.

Give me snowbound damn it.

Has anybody else seen how Bungie.net and Halo 3 Multiplayer Rankings are off a bit when compared to each other?

For instance, my Highest Skill Level on Halo 3 Multiplayer is 30 but on Bungie.net its 29 and my EXP is 77 in Halo 3 but on Bungie.net is 75.

Takes a couple of hours/days to update. When there are less than 2 million unique players playing halo 3 everyday, then they might become instantaneous, like in Halo 2.

I've been running through the campaign meta game with 4 skulls turned on and I've cleared 20K on the first two missions on my first try. I'd recommend turning on the following -

Bigger explosions, Grunt Party (those don't help your score but can make the game a little easier since the grunts will explode and take out nearby enemies), Fog (may want to take this off when you reach later levels), Famine, Tough Luck, and Catch.

With the catch skull, enemies fire their weapons very infrequently because they are too busy chucking grenades. When they are in the grenade toss animation, they can't dodge your grenades, largely negating the tough luck skull. Also, bigger explosions will grab more enemies in your grenade tosses, (also negating the tough luck skull) which will give you tons of points in the process.

If you have already played through a bunch of times, then I think you are in a great position to nab all those achievements because you know exactly where to go and what to do. Just blaze through it!

fuck. Tried metagame on Heroic and Legendary and it was just too hard. Did it on normal with 4 skulls and ended up with like 10560. I had 8x SKULLS . This is gay.

Plus arbiter kept stealing my Brute kills.

Don't know which skulls you have turned on but you should be more than able to get the 15,000 or 50,000(depending on the mission requirement) if you go through the level without dieing too much and complete it in a reasonable amount of time. The time multiplier pretty much put me well over the requirement for pretty much every mission.

What I did was famine, and a few other skulls on normal. Popped in a extra controller so I could respawn next to them if I died, and pretty much got the scoring achivements alone except in the last level I had the wife ride the hog with me (lmao).

Now just gota get the Legendary, Rank, and free for all achivements.

That would be awesome of you could because my friend hasn't beaten it yet so we started where he was on chapter 6 and are now STILL in chapter 8, so it would nice if I didn't have to play through chapters 1-5 to get the Legendary achievement but I would think that Bungie would have noticed that.

I think that Bungie messed something up somewhere, which is why we kept getting The Pit. There is zero doubt in my mind that they are going to fix it.

That's the thing, I had the skull where if you die you start back at the begining on. So I played cautiously, and it took me about 55 minutes. Didn't die.

You want to play some time? No, you say? Tough luck, you say? That sucks. I wish there was a way for me to play the maps that I want and the types I want without having to play with people just on my friends list. I guess this mode would be somewhat revolutionary, never done before, and too complicated for Bungie to put in a game with such a small budget and a short amount of time to make.

Before they fix anything I think they should fix it so that shit stops breaking.

Or maybe they can just give everyone their money back and start over with the Halo games. Atleast redo Halo 3. This is one of the worst FPS I have ever played. Only 2 that I can think of that I hated more are Battlefield and FEAR. Battlefield sucked and FEAR just got old about half way through.

depends on the mission but most of the levels, the time multiplier starts to decreasae in 5 minute intervals after the ~20 minute mark.

If you didn't die with that skull on, you'll either need to put on more skulls (if you take that long so you get more multipliers for the other things you do such as killing, headshots etc) or go for the time multipliers. If it's say like on the first level, you'll have to finish in half that time(doable, I finished all of the meta scoring in about 20-30 minutes except some of the longer ones which have a becnhmark of 50,000 for the achievement.)

The time multipliers make a huge difference. I was able to get most of the time the 1.5 or the 2x multiplier so it'd multiply my final score by that amount. Put me well over the achievement requirement for every level.

Here is a tip for those working on the killing frenzy achievement (10 kills in a row without dying).

Crazy King on The Pit. Totally ignore the hills and run straight for the machine gun turret. Hop on the turrent and kill all the guys that are vying for the hill. You should be able to rack up 10 kills pretty quickly as three hill spawn points will be directly in your line of fire. Here are some other tips when attempting this:

1) you are vulnerable to someone coming from behind. There is the vent that will carry someone directly to your pertch so watch your radar for a pissed person who is coming to knock you off. To reduce the extent that you annoy the other players you should...
2) get off the turrent and hide behind the wall behind you, especiallywhen the hill moves out of your line of fire. No need to draw extra attention to yourself. But if you do draw fire...
3) just drop the turret and run away. It isn't worth the risk of losing your streak because they got a lucky grenade stick. Most people will just give up when they have scared you off the turret. And if you have taken some damage...
4) use the regenerator on the ground behind your shield. It will prevent a stray bullet from killing you.

If you get lucky you may get a triple kill or an overkill in the process. Happy Hunting!

Oh crap....wasted nearly an hour trying to get some skulls from a checkpoint when I didn't know you had to start from the beginning. Ah, the gayness of it all.

Thanks for the tip. Now just to hope that Crazy King and Pit show up..

Anyone have suggestions for the Headshot Honcho and Mongoose Meltdown? Those seem pretty easy but I'm having a hard time getting them. Especially the headshot one. I'm sure I got 10 shots in campain before.
Anyone have suggestions for the Headshot Honcho and Mongoose Meltdown? Those seem pretty easy but I'm having a hard time getting them. Especially the headshot one. I'm sure I got 10 shots in campain before.
I got Headshot Honcho playing The Ark on normal. They start you off with a sniper rifle, so just try to get 2 or 3 brutes from afar, then pick off the grunts and jackals with headshots while you can, for the first part of the level. Also, using the battle rifle against the grunts gives you a good amount of headshots, too. Try turning on the Grunt Birthday Party skull to help you, I know it helped me get a good grasp on how well I was doing using the battle rifle against the grunts.

The ranked free-for-all achievements like mongoose mowdown are easier to get in the King of the Hill or Oddball gametypes, since people are usually more focused on keeping control rather than killing. Though, I remember getting my Mongoose achievement in Slayer on Isolation. I've found that a lot of those are just coming with time, if you play enough.

Also, this achievement requires 10 sniper headshots, not BR/carbine headshots. It unlocks as soon as you pull off the 10th headshot. Another good spot is the very end of Tsavo Highway, when you're fighting all the brutes to bring the second shield down.

My ffriends and I beat the ark with well over 50k points on legendary and we did not get the achievement. Anyone else have this problem? I guess I should also note we did not have enough without the multiplier if that matters.

The achievement doesn't specify that they need to be done with the sniper rifle.

Headshot Honcho
Kill 10 enemies with headshots in a ranked free for all playlist or in campaign.

If you want the achievement, you will do it with a sniper. It can't be obtained any other way right now.

It has to be individual scoring and not the combined team score, each player needs 15k/50k for the achievements. Going through each level on normal with 3 skulls and the time bonus worked great for me. You don't always need to kill every single enemy to get to the next area/checkpoint either, so use that to your advantage.

If at the end how much does each skull multiply your score by?
Lol at the checkpoint thing. I got the skull on the first level by running through the level.
