Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

Does Walmart B&M require a preorder? If so, is it to late to get one, or mandatory for the 70 LE?
Just figure go there monday night and buy it with little wait, go home and play.

A lot of people will be buying shiny, new copies of Halo 3 this week, but some of them will get home to find scratched discs straight out of the box.

Early reports from lucky early owners of the Halo 3 Limited Edition on gaming forum NeoGAF found that the game discs have broken free from the hubs that were supposed to secure the discs into place.

Unlike the regular Xbox 360 green game boxes, the Halo 3 Limited Edition ships in a black tin box with center hubs too shallow to adequately hold the DVDs in place. As a result, consumers may find discs that have been freely floating around inside the box that have been scratched up by the very hub that was supposed to keep it in place.

“A friend just opened 3 copies of Halo 3 Limited Edition and with all three copies both disc were loose inside of the package and scratched to death,” explained the original poster of the thread. “This Limited Edition has a piss poor plastic nub and foam pad disc holding design that is a major flaw and the discs pop off with ease.”

Although Halo 3 has yet to launch to the public, forum participants who work at game stores have chimed in with their own experience after examining (by shaking and listening for loose discs) their inventory.

“I picked up 2 collectors tins today at work, and they both felt like the disc came loose in them. This is a horrible sign,” said one store employee.

The same conditions may also apply to the game in other territories. “I saw a few PAL copies yesterday … and they were all the same. Every LE had two loose discs in the box, both badly scratched. The one we tested seemed to play ok but they're getting sent back as faulty anyway. It's not like they could be sold in that condition,” reported another store worker from overseas.

So far, reports of scratched discs apply only to the $69.99 Limited Edition, but not to the $59.99 Standard Edition or the $129.99 Legendary Edition.

Finished it. Despite the fact I never played 1 or 2, I loved every minute of it. Whether this, or Bioshock is GOTY is difficult to decide. Great game nonetheless

Yeah, every copy is like this. Check the Halo thread for more. We had to open up three copies at work because they looked like they were tampered with and all three had bad scratches. Standard and Legendary are fine though.

damn, damn, damn, i didnt want the legendary edition and i dont want the regular edition....why the hell dont they just stick with the nice slim halo 2 metal case, i love those

Maybe manufacturers need to stop being creative with DVD cases and just use a freakin' standard. Seems like every movie I buy has a different case variation. I like the longstanding "yin-yang" style the best. Holds the disc well, easy to eject it. Not like some of these cases that have a devil's grip on the disc (HBO series box sets) where you worry about snapping it in half trying to get the damn disc out.

That one came with scratches, too. They packaged the bonus DVD and game on the same spindle and put the game on top, thus causing scratches.

I'm told that the Legendary edition comes in a normal 360 game case, but has seperate cover art from the regular edition.

I'll pick up the collectors (If I can find one on launch night, since I haven't preordered...) and regular edition and return the collectors if it's scratched and return the normal if it's not, I guess.
are the collector's scratches made by the master chief himself?
Apparently so man, apparently so...

I guess my copy will be all scratched up. I'll tell people that it was made by Master Chief.

you are absolutely right...i dont know why but i was thinking it was side by side like Lost Planet...that would be the example i was going for;)

Lost Planet's was kind of an overlapping one, that one was good. Stranglehold's approach was nice too (the CE disc was in the spindle, the bonus DVD was in a CD sleeve behind the instruction book).

shit, gamecube cases had a devil's grip. although the disc were smaller so the leverage wasn't enough to snap the disc, i always had that thought of snapping in the back of mind when taking a game out.
who cares, as long as it works eh?

no, not at all. you can't be serious.

Microsoft will surely hear my wrath, if my 70.00 game which I payed (56.00 thanks to cag) is scratched. I'll really destroy whos ever on the other side of that phone and boy will I feel bad. I don't see how they don't see these problems happening.

We can always call Microsoft and ask for a replacement or something. If my copy is all scratched up. I am so calling....

Two discs stacked on top of each other, a lot of people's game disc had scratches then, too.

The MS support lines are going to be blowing up on Tuesday, hope my 360 gets back before then.

fuckin awesome...

Oh, if my copy from Liongames looks like shit, MS is getting one hell of a fun complaint call from me. I''ll demand they overnight a new copy before I send in the scratched one.

I switched my pre order from Limited to Regular today so I should be safe. I didn't like the fat metal case anyway so I am kind of glad I am getting the regular case.
Still getting it.

My Halo 2 CE had no scratches at all...
i'm sure this halo 3 case is different.
i'm sure this halo 3 case is different.
True but...idk

I just thought about it. Whos more at fault? Microsfot for packing it like shit or the delivery companies for probably throwing these boxes around?

How do multi-billion dollar companies hire and pay morons to design these boxes?

How much money is MS going to lose over shipping and replacing all of these discs? The stores will have to send back all defective returned units. I am sure people will call and request replacements.

What is MS thinking?

And for the record, my H2 CE was in perfect condition disc wise.

i'm suprised at the skimpyness they used in securing the disks. All they needed to do was put a damn PROPER holder thing in the middle..... Talk about shameless cutting cost.

i'd say it's the case manufacturer for making faulty cases and MS for approving the use of it. the delivery company is just going about their business, i doubt they're treating halo 3 deliveries extra rough or anything.

I ordered the regular edition from Liongames, so I'm not worried about my copy.
Still, how hard was it for Microsoft to screw up the case on the limited edition, especially after they screwed up the Halo 2 limited edition? All they had to do was use a standard 2 disk DVD case.

Yeah, the smaller radius of the disc was a lot nicer in that way.

Well when I get my game at the midnight release at my local gamecrazy im gonna open the game in my car and if it has a few scatches I could really honestly care less but if its over the top bull crap scratches im gonna walk back into the store and bitch slap the employee and ask (demand) a new copy.
