Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

Hey, drop me some friend requests if you guys feel like playing. I should be on most of the evening tonight unless something social comes up. I'm a steady 37 on lone wolves. Haven't played any other types of ranked matches, but I'd probably be a decent teammate for some of you and could use some partners for Legendary / metagame achievements.

Also, anyone have any guesses about the new maps that are coming out. The latest Bungie newsletter says,

"Two of them in particular will cause a Three Mile Island scale pant-fill-disaster in the Halo community. I can’t say why, but some of you will figure it out correctly and be able to say I told you so later."

I'm always holding out hope for a return of Blood Gulch myself, but that's probably asking too much.

I thought they already established that the new maps were not remakes?

Also, where is the best spot to get the Used Car Salesmen achievement?
 
Oh, did they? Pity. Well, I still hope it's Gulch-esque. I'm not sure about the Used Car award. I got it by accident the first time I played campaign...I guess I might suggest a map with the spartan laser. Hit a vehicle with that and you'll cook everyone on it. A wraith could do the job, too, but I honestly have no idea where I got mine.
 
Used Car Salesman is the one where you have to kill 3 people on a vehicle right?

I nailed it used a Tank and hitting some vehicle about 10,000 yds away got it for me.

Crow's Nest. When you get to the hangar, go to the back where the 2nd Phantom is waiting to land. Destroy the front turret with the MG or melee it. It's a glitch, and voila, achievement.
 
Hey, I tried to take pictures in campaign and bungie says that I have already saved 50 pictures, but when I go to my service record it only shows 6. wtF? How do I fix this?

The Ark or whichever level it is where you start off with a sniper riflle There is one part where you should be able to get rockets and 2 prowlers come rushing at you. Each of those two prowlers have 3 brutes each in them.
 
quick question. ive already beat campaign on normal and now im playing on legendry. but im not playing the level in order. and does it matter if i beat some of the levels on co op and some of them on single player? or do they all have to be on single or co op and cant be a combination of both?

For the achievement, it doesn't matter. I did levels 6 & 7 on Legendary Co-op FIRST, then went back and completed the others missions on Solo Legendary. It's ok to jump around.

if you do NOT want the achievement, but just want to see the legendary ending, without beating the whole game, just Co-Op with someone who has unlocked the last level, and start from the last rally checkpoint. it's kinda cheap though.

btw, when you beat it, let the credits roll. don't touch anything.

i already beat it on normal but now im playing on legendary for the achievement. and when i beat it i forgot to watch the credits but ill watch them this time after i beat that level on legendary.
 
Played several hours online at a friend's house yesterday. Why is it, in an Oddball match, that everyone wants to kill you when you don't have the oddball? It's really fucking annoying to be a step away from the carrier and get gunned down from behind because the assholes just can't stop shooting.

I just want Headlong, Waterworks and Containment. Or at least new maps similar to those. That desert map sucks. And I still want ranked BTB.

Who knows? It would be nice if they did because even though Valhalla is a great map, it is too different from Blood Gulch.
 
Our multiplayer design teams are hard at work on a couple of things. One of them is a fun, seasonal addition to the matchmaking playlist which should keep you entertained for about 27 hours around Halloween. No specifics yet, but suffice it to say that if you want to spend your witchy holiday playing Halo 3, we’ll give you some spooktacular reasons to do so.

I just killed a guy with a mongoose. Funny thing is, I wasn't on it. I am going to upload the screen caps soon/when I am not feeling so lazy.
 
Late to the party, but started playing today. Played the single player for a couple hours, then hopped online for an hour or so.

Good times all around. Graphics are phenomenal, especially the jungle in the beginning.
 
i must be pretty slow, still trying to beat the game on legendary. Though i've played a few games on multiplayer i'd prefer get the legendary campaign out of the way first as i'm pretty much new to halo. Anyway i'm gonna send FRs to jtwise, level1online, and tahoemax since they expressed some interest some co-op action sometime. Anyone else interested feel free to shoot me a FR :)

Yeah, but I'm closer to the ball then they are. Killing me means the ball carrier holds the ball for a few more seconds. This makes them less likely to win. It's just plain stupid.

You need to learn how to circle your prey.

Wait for the right moment, when everyone's killed each other off, then close in for the ball grab.

Chances are, ball carrier will be low on health.
 
finally got "we're in for some chop" last night, playing tsavo highway on legendary, got lucky with a trip mine under a damaged chopper, my buddy that i was playing with was pissed, he only needs 4 more online/campaign achievemnets to get all 1000
 
I'm surprised you can have "too many" friends. I'm still an Xbox Live n00b, but for the record that's ridiculous.

I'm currently very irritated at my ISP. I just upgraded to a 3mb connection and the network still has these spats where it just cuts out altogether for a second or two and ruins my slayer games. Shouldn't be a big problem with co-op, but until things get sorted out I think i'll be avoiding MP games. It's too frustrating missing kill after kill because of a lag spike. Offhand, in case anyone knows, could it be something to do with my firewall setup? I'm not sure how I'd find out, but if I could fix it on my end I'd be very happy to do so.

Do you have the correct ports open on your router? If not try this thread http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114243 . That might be the problem, or part of it.

The max you can have is only 100. You will come to that barrier someday aswell.

On the friends list limitations: I don't mind, honestly, because otherwise you just end up not knowing the people on your friends list. What I WOULD like, however, is an ability to add tags to gamertags, and sort them by where you know them. Or groups, or something. You know, have a CAG group online, or tag buddies with "R6:V player" or something.

Q: Can I get achievements in this playlist?
Yes, it is set up as a Ranked Playlist, and players will have some good opportunities to pick up a few of the harder MP achievements without any of that pesky guilt.

Too bad it's not coming till 3 am EST, still I'll be playing.
 
Played Halo 3 for like 10 mins today. Man O Man is the MP gameplay slow. It might of been that I have been playing TF2 for the past week or so.
