Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info
Wait if they do charge for the DLC, does that mean no matchmaking for those without the maps like in Halo 2?
They only did that for the last mappack. All the other mappacks, you had to wait for them to be free until they came to matchmaking.
I played this today, first time in a week or two and after Call of Duty 4 its not near as fun. I would try this game in but I will keep it just for more maps at least.
That's how I feel, too. It's a shame, but Call of Duty 4 ruined Halo 3 for me!

yeah the maps will probably be between 5 and 10 dollars like they were before, but i'll pay it, i still love this game and i know it will only get better with new maps, good times, good times.

I'll wait for the map packs to be free. Just like I did with Gears and Vegas packs.

CoD is taking up all my time anyway, so I doubt I'll be going back to Halo again anytime soon, unless they do another 1 day gametype like the Halloween thing, that was actually fun.
It won't be free, it will be overpirced and become free in 6-10 months, just like what happened with Halo 2. MS or Bungie knows everyone will buy it just so they are not locked out of games. When wasthe last time you saw free maps out of the gate? MAYBE in a few months. I still need to download the Gears maps because I think those are free now.
the halo maps were free in like 2-3 free months from their release.

QFT.

For those bitching about the price, it's obvious they're not the cult/hardcore Halo players MS is banking on to buy new maps immediately.

I miss the 2v2. I can understand why it was pulled but it's alot more fun then the 2v2v2v2 especially when your getting Team VIP 50% of the time. That mode is worst then Ninja Juggernaut!!!

As per Joystiq:
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/halo-3-heroic-map-pack-available-on-dec-11/
If you've grown tired of traipsing through Snowbound in your desperate lust to eliminate squeaky-voiced, trash-talking cyborgs, the announcement of the downloadable "Heroic Map Pack" for Halo 3 should be just what the doctor ordered. A strange sort of physician that cures ills with video game news... it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, really. But! Let's focus on the facts: December 11th, three maps, 800 MS Points ($10).

Included in the set are "Standoff," a symmetrical valley filled with "entrenched bases and fields of boulders" and, after about 10 minutes, enormous piles of heavily armored corpses. It's joined by "Rat's Nest," which is described as "an indoor vehicle paradise," and "Foundry," a Forge-friendly sandbox that's ideal for shifting stairways, bridges and tunnels to your twisted heart's delight. Build almost any kind of map you can think of, it says here.

Additional fact:For the patient lot among you (admittedly not a great strategy in the game itself), the maps will become free on the Xbox Live Marketplace in Spring 2008 -- right before the next wave of maps is expected.
I'll buy it...10 bucks is no big deal, though I'd rather have 4 for that price to avoid establishing a new acceptable rate of $3.33 per map...prefer the $2.50 standard.
$10 for three maps? Thats sad
I don't think it's too bad, some people play Halo 3 a lot online and will be happy to get new maps, they'll get a lot of use out of their $10.

Personally I rarely play it online, due to being teh sux at Halo, so I'll wait till they're free.

not if you're Bill Gates.

Is it possible to be "teh sux" at Halo? I am a horrible FPS game player, and even I am semi-decent at Halo 3.

Very possible, pray you never find out by me ending up on your team :)

Going to wait on these unless I get my headset situation taken care of. Even if that happens though, still doubtful I'd pay 800 points for 3 maps.

The way the GEARS OF WAR maps, were free...just like these ones....I bought it for my kid, but he rarely played those maps, not everyone is buying map packs...And this time I wont buy them, no way.....once fell on to a trap, not twice....
if call of duty 4 didn't exist, i would totally get these
QFT.

I'm not even sure I'm going to play Halo 3 anytime in the next month. (Call of Duty 4 / Mario Galaxy / Zelda: PH)

Will they do something simular to Halo 2 where you're not allowed to play matchmaking without purchasing the map pack?
Will they do something simular to Halo 2 where you're not allowed to play matchmaking without purchasing the map pack?
They only did that for the LAST map pack. For all the others, they didnt put them into the major matchmacking playlists. However, I hope they do lock out you cheap bastards. Go spend 800 points on some shit XBL games.

This is too much for 800 points. Activison charged that much for CoD 3 map packs that had 5 maps per pack. Plus, an 11th map was free. PDZ charged only 400 points for 5 maps.

This should of been 400-600 points. I'll just wait on these until Spring.

It's pretty expensive, but the real problem for me is that it's really only two maps. Foundation sounds fun, but I don't play that many custom games and I was hoping for some expansions to matchmaking. One BTB map and one Team Slayer/Objective? I'll probably still get it as long as they make a playlist with the new BTB map... I am that desperate, and I'm a sucker for map editors, whether I play the maps or not.

If I remember correctly, with Halo 2 they made temporary "premium" playlists that included the purchasable maps, so that buyers could play them in matchmaking until they were free to everyone.

Or we can spend $10 on something other than 2 maps and 1 blank one. Think about it. How many maps did the game ship with? $60 for the WHOLE game and compare it to $10 for three measley maps. I think theres something wrong with that.

They need to bundle the map pack with a melee/AR downgrade. Yes I'm still bitching about it. Melee/AR tops nearly everyones most kill/most death lists.

Lets look at the evolution of the melee

Halo:Combat Evolved - No Lunging, not too powerful, good as a last hit if OUT of ammo

Halo 2 - Short Melee Lunge, Takes 3 hits to kill a full shield

Halo 3 - Longer lunge, A counter melee with more health wins, powerful melee over all previous melees.

Just my interpretation

$10 is too much for 3 maps. And since they wont be included in matchmaking, they are even more worthless.

I'll wait till spring, when they become free and are included in matchmaking.

Once again, if Bungie would let you pick exactly what you wanted to play in Social, these maps would have more value.
Good call. Now for those of us who don't own the memory unit, the question becomes do we go out and spend $30 $50 on one (then get the half-price content, buy the maps at full price for $10, or wait until they become free?
you can just do an account recovery

Who says they aren't in matchmaking

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12983

"Simultaneously all of the DLC maps will be rolled in to the regular Matchmaking playlists as well and then as folks are getting matched up, the game will take into account who has what maps in the matchmaking process. So you'll see Team Slayer on Standoff show up in the Team Slayer hopper as well as in the new DLC-focused playlist."

Ahhhh, very good! That makes all the difference. Of course, reading back thru this thread I now realize thats its just TWO maps for $10, as one is just a blank slate kinda thing for use in forge. Either way, I'll wait for spring, but its good to know people with no friends who play Halo can still make use of the 2 maps before they become free.

Foundry isn't a blank map, per se. Its a map constructed entirely of forge editable items like containers and such, so you can modify it anyway you like (from bungie.net).

yeah i still think of it as 3 maps, foundry is supposed to be a great level for forgers, but it is still a normal map like any other, they are gonna have the new maps in matchmaking, just on a seperate hopper to no cut out the cheap bastards that are gonna wait for the free maps, don't get me wrong i'm all about saving a dime, but i love halo and i will be all over these maps when they come out, i'm way excited for this. also it sounds like bungie is gonna post more pics after this weekend, can't wait.

Microsoft and Bungie can kiss my ass.

I guess the 10 gazillion dollars they made a few months ago just weren't enough.
