Stupid !@#!$ Fry's. I live very far away from the two metro Atlanta locations. The distance difference from me is .1 miles, so either store is as good as the other.

So, I called on Sunday to ask if BD movies will get the same priority as DVD releases. In other words, should I show up there at opening time and risk being told that they'll get put out sometime in the afternoon (thereby requiring me to stay in Atlanta all day) or should I show up some time in the evening/afternoon and risk being told that they are already sold out? I was told that they put out "all" new releases first thing in the morning. I knew that their definition of "all" was likely different than my definition of "all" (mine includes HD-DVD and Blu-Ray), but I had clearly specified that I was talking about the $14.99 Blood Diamond movie on Blu-Ray Disc.

Sure enough, they had NONE and all they can tell me is that "it's weird because we got them and we just don't know where they are." I asked about a rain check because they can't just bait and switch and they said "no, because it's a sale price." Well duh. F#$kers must not know what a rain check is for!
LOL! "we don't know where they are XD!!!!"

I know about the Fry's near Gwinnett Place mall. Where is the other one?

If Blood Diamond is still ringing up $14.99 in store, could someone let me know?
I know about the Fry's near Gwinnett Place mall. Where is the other one?
One is Duluth (678-405-6800), one is Alpharetta (678-280-0550). The Duluth store has been open longer and is off of i85. i85 has a few exits in my town, so even though it shouldn't matter which I go to after passing through or around Atlanta, I stick to the simple one... Duluth. They've also been open longer, so they were the first I located and visited and remembered the directions to. The other is off of GA400. Because I live south of Atlanta, I'm not familiar with GA400 at all. Both are equidistant to me, so I've never had any reason to go to the newer Alpharetta store.
Is there a code to input for the 10% to take effect or is it just automatic?
It's just automatic. You'd have to have bought 3 hi-def movies awhile back for the promo to take effect, which is good for a year.
Glad i waited on the fifth element, odd about the remaster.
They got alot of complaints about the first one since it sucked so bad.

im curious at how bad it is but i dont want to open it...might as well pop in my dvd version from the sound of it
Are they planning on ditching the MPEG-4 codec anytime soon? This is for hi-def in general.
AVC? No, Sony loves it. So does Fox. But Sony especially will probably always use it, simply because using VC-1 would give Microsoft money.

Ahhhh, they should just come up with a better one then

The "bad" one used for 5th Element was MPEG2. Due to early mastering software immaturity, all early BD titles were. That's why I'm pissed off about The Terminator and Terminator 2 Judgement Day. I would have waited! Just for that, they don't get my business at all. At least, not until a remaster happens (hopefully 5th Element will set a precedent here).

So yeah: Either VC-1 or AVC make great BD movies while MPEG2 makes garbage. That said, I've noticed a lot of issues with VC-1 encoded titles. Planet Earth is terrible in some places! Even so, the "benchmark" title, that Nine Inch Nails thing, is VC-1. Their compressionist actually couldn't get VC-1 to encode properly until Microsoft stepped in and modified their encocder to support their difficult material. Unless Microsoft is willing to do this for everyone else's VC-1 encode issues, I'll take AVC whenever possible.

Oh, and I never really likes 5th Element. I know it's supposed to be some kind of visual effects showcase title but nothing impressed me too much and the story (or, dialog, I should say...) seemed like it was for kids (...Chris Tucker). Childlike story + un-funny sexual inuendo do not mix because it begs the question: Just who is this movie FOR?

They had trouble due to the number of flashing lights/motion.

No hollywood movie is like that and Microsoft wasn't expecting anything like that when VC-1 was created.

Which is understandable since the live show is almost like watching a strobe light.

Excuses excuses.
There's plenty of strobe light-like scenes in films.
Guess they haven't shown up in high definition yet.

I'll take a nicely AVC encoded mp4 video please.

It's not an excuse that what Rob Sheridan ("their compressionist") said.

Strobe light visuals mixed with 30FPS isn't anything like hollywood films (24FPS/way less overall motion)

The fact that Microsoft tweaked it enough when they came to them is a great sign.

That is true.

Sweet Jesus!...hope I can find one out there.

I highly recommend anyone that likes Rescue Me to pick up season 3 on blu-ray during DD's 20% off sale. The picture quality and sound on it is fantastic, and this is the cheapest it will be in a LONG time.

Thanks for the heads up. I managed to get a copy of Million Dollar Baby when that was clearanced. Hopefully, I'll get lucky again!

oh man cool thanks, i just hope one of the stores around here has it, most of the targets around here only have that hd/bd endcap and the selection is usually limited
I would appreciate a copy if anybody finds an extra. I looked at my local Target today but came up empty.
Same here. I suspect an employee hoarded them since when I asked if they had it he was pretty quick on answering me... in fact a little too quick.

The Fifth Element Exchange Program

When Blu-ray first launched, there were great expectations for the titles released. That was especially true for 'The Fifth Element', which had been a home theater enthusiast favorite on DVD. Unfortunately, the results were less than stellar, but Sony is here to atone! Those who purchased 'The Fifth Element' in its current form can exchange the disc for the new, cleaned up version of the film, due out July 17th.

The disc will come as a BD-50, encoded with AVC, and have two lossless/uncompressed audio tracks: the same PCM track from the original release (which was quite excellent) and a 20-bit Dolby TrueHD track. The extras remain the same, but the film has been remastered for a cleaner/crisper video experience.

Right now, Sony is taking down your name, mailing address, and phone number and will contact you closer to the release of the remastered version on how to exchange your disc. When you call, have that information ready, or if you are emailing, make sure to place it in your message. Here is the contact information:

Phone: 800-860-2878
Email: [email protected]

Not truly a "deal," but a *very* kind gesture towards people who bought this movie expecting high quality and were let down by it.

great news...i guess i wont have to ebay my crappy copy from DDD after all, just emailed them and also inquired if there were any plans for any of the other letdowns...mostly Stargate, lol

Picked up a couple of copies of "the Brother's Grimm" on Blu-ray $7.06 each today at Target! (Tollway & Park in Addison, TX)

These had the big red/white "as is" stickers on them like they were returned or something. They are brand new, factory sealed.

I love picking up "cheap" presents for friends & family! :)

I don't often say nice things about Sony lately, but that is a goddamn class act. Bravo for 1) acknowledging your fuck-up and 2) correcting it for people who suffered because of it.

So Terminator and Terminator 2 are bad transfers? (I picked them up with GCO, and PS3 coupon for T2)

I was very disappointed that Terminator 2 didn't include the Ultimate edition scenes although their director commentary kept making reference to it!

They're decent transfers, but not the best. Still leagues better than DVD though.
90% of people would never notice. Enjoy the movies.

Damn, where does target usually have their clearence DVDs?

The choices are a bit random IMO. I think they'd do better if they did packs of genre; ie:

Mobster- Departed, Goodfellas, Smoking Aces & Untouchables

or by actor

Depp - Corpse Bride, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas & Sleepy Hollow

Nazi - Leathal Weapon 1, Lethan Weapon 2, Payback, Road Warrior.

It could definately take off if they get the right selections.

Is it true that Warner mails out your shipment as pieces when they come in?

I want to make a big order but I don't want it to get held up by 300.

Yes they do. I've bought from them a couple times.

Most recently, I ordered Dukes of Hazzard, 300, and TMNT on Monday. Got Dukes of Hazzard on Thursday.
