went to walmart, didnt see the A2 anywhere on display, went to the counter and asked if they had it , and it was behind the counter hidden under a bag, told my sister to expect to see a package in her name so i could take advantage of the 5 free a second time, feels good getting about 225 dollars worth of stuff for about a hundred, but im sure there'll be another killer deal before long

I think the HDMI to DVI would look better. It's ranked about the same as a reg HDMI cable which both are ranked above Component Cables.

For stuff that is encoded with Dolby Digital Plus/True you are better off having the player downconvert it to DTS than Dolby if your surround sound reciever does not have HDMI on it. DTS is going to retain a bit more of the original audio quality over standard Dolby which is always helpful.

From the main page, just click movies and then about halfway down the page theres a row of five gray boxes, one of which says $13.99 HD-DVDs.

I use HDMI to DVI. It gives excellent PQ, but beware. There are known handshake issues between the A2 and DVI. So if the picture doesn't show up, try switching your TV on/off or changing the channel.

Probably not. Since they didn't include it with every 360 sold, it's not guaranteed that everyone who has a 360 will be able to use it for gaming. But it will probably be included in the next gen Xbox. If the rumors about it being included in a future 360 model, it will probably be just for HD DVD movie playback.

I really don't like the idea of paying anywhere from $20-30 for movies that I'll only watch once and never look at again. Plus, I'm moving in the beginning of January, so I might not even be here by the time they finally ship my free movies.
 
So anyways, I went to Walmart tonight and got Blood Diamond and Full Metal Jacket Deluxe Edition for $15 each. Awesome.

Crazy. I was wondering why TMNT was missing from the Toshiba site one. I'm just afraid that if I send in the form with TMNT on it, they'll reject my app.

anyway, over at avs, someone is reporting that Fry's B&M has also reduced the price of the A3 to $98.

looks like fw has confirmed it.

nm, YMMV as it was a Fry's in SD and they are pretty much regional with pricing.

You could always call them. Doesn't hurt to ask. I know I would rather have TMNT and Syriana than the other selections.

Before I send in my form I may give them a ring and see if I can use that Sears form.

I just connected my HD-A3 and it was playing for about 5min and then I got error code: 408bc504

I haven't updated the firmware but I assumed the firmware out of the box would atleast play Batman Begins...no dice, I'm out of blank CD-R's and I don't want to unplug the ethernet cable on my XBOX360 since it seems to be faulty when I unplug it sometimes it won't connect to XBOX Live again.

So anyone have this problem before firmware update? Did the update fix it?
 
Well, I updated the firmware on my A3 and it won't play Batman Begins, but It finally played Transformers...Tried Batman Begins on my XBOX360 HD DVD player and it worked perfectly. I think I might take it back to Best Buy for a refund and just stick with my XBOX360 HD DVD player.

ill call the number this morning and see if it is legit...i don't know why it wouldn't be if it was posted on the sears web site...
 
These deals on the A2 and A3 are nice but the fact that they're not 1080p kinda blows it for me. I mean I guess they're good for people that have 720p TVs but if you have a 1080p its just not worth it to not be able to view your movies in full resolution.

Anybody know if the 360 HD-DVD can playback in 1080p?

If you've got a 1080p monitor, it'll display 1080i content in 1080p.

Yes it will with the addon buy only through HDMI.

The picture would probably not be better, BUT you would get regular DVD upconversion, which you wouldn't get over component. Just make sure your TV's DVI input is HDCP compliant (some older ones aren't).

Actually, the add-on will do 1080p with a HDMI cable, VGA cable, or if you use a PC and software to watch the movies.

Why does it say that the hd-a3 is $199 even though it isn't? What is the point of that. Either I'm missing something or you had a little typo;) . Lol. Hopefully I'm just missing something.
