Just got the update, played a little bit of MI2 in DTS, it sounds awesome. The whole volume issue is gone.

What's the "dynamic range" option for?

What's the "dynamic range" option for?
Probably to somehow adjust/toggle the decibels, I'm no audio expert by far, but I know it's sometimes adjustible because it can affect the noise and distortion dealing with compression/conversion (or something like that IIRC). Essentially, I think the wider the dynamic range the better and if it's too narrow for example things can sound quite flat. Could be wrong though as the dynamic range can actually refer to many things in separate fields.

While the Heroes date has been known for a few weeks now, we have pricing and additional info:
Heroes: Season 1 on HD DVD, this August 28 (day-and-date with DVD release). It will be a standard HD DVD release (tentatively 6/7 discs, subject to further confirmation) and will be priced at $79.98 SRP. The main feature will be presented in 1080p High Definition Widescreen 1.78:1 video with Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 (English) audio. English [SDH] & French subtitles are provided.
Someone on AVSforum mentioned that Entertainment Weekly reported that the HD-DVD (and the DVD, I think) will have a feature that will let you play individual character arcs in sequence. Sounds cool if its true.

Very nice.

Should be around 60ish on Amazon.

Which is just low enough IMO for a blind buy.
I forget, but where do you change the options for the HD-DVD player?
Bump. And where's this Night Mode option? I can't find where you can toggle it.

When you're playing an HD-DVD, press A and then go to advanced options.
Thanks Linking, I assumed it was through the dashboard (which would make sense)
I did the same thing, It took me a bit till I figured it out. They should have an option on the dashboard.

the update seemed to fix the weird problem Clerks 2 (HD) had on the add-on player.

anyone have the DVE HD-DVD disc? I already have the SD disc and I'm wondering if I should purchase the HD-DVD version.
Bump. And where's this Night Mode option? I can't find where you can toggle it.
I believe the "Dynamic Range" option is the Night Mode. Default should be "off."

I got tired of doing links so I stopped.... I know that this doesn't guarantee we will be seing them, but its a really good posibility. After all, thats how so many titles started.

Now that the patch is out I can finally enjoy the NIN concert. No more clicking when TrueHD is turned on and the audio test finally works right.

Yes the HD DVE disc is a worthy purchase for the $15 or so that it costs. It is much easier to find the pattern you need and just works great.
It doesn't have all the video walkthroughs that the SD side does. So if you're new to this kind of disc calibration then it may be a little overwhelming at first. Just flip the disc over and watch over the videos and then calibrate in HD.
fuck!!! 300 is a combo disk!!!!!

there goes the hopes of this outselling the bd version...

fuck man
Even if it only sells 1 copy, that's still more than it'll be selling on BD (this year, anyway). Like The Matrix, Batman Begins, Troy, etc, 300 is "exclusive until further notice". Basically meaning WB is holding it until BD-J and BD-Video 1.1 is working.

Uhhh...Wrong.

Other links as well. Same day. HD will have an exclusive game.

It will outsell the BD version. The HD DVD version has exclusive IME and a game. In the past, with something like Departed, both BD and HD had the same features so most of the neutral people bought the cheaper BD. While on the other hand, Happy Feet, which had TrueHD vs just Dobly Digital on the BD, and Happy Feet was higher on the Amazon charts.

That's weird, I saw two other places (including this universal site: http://homevideo.universalstudios.com/title.php?titleId=3229) has the msrp at 79.98. I know when it does come out, it'll be cheaper, but just wanted to point out the difference. I'm not sure who to believe.

Most people don't honestly care about special features when it costs them extra money and they are given a choice. If people followed that logic speical edition vresions would be nearly equal to the regular versions on new releases, in the end though they are lucky to be a solid fraction of the sales. I'll be buying it on HD though. Also, though I loathe using just Amazon sales numbers as comparisons, currently the BD version of Happy Feet outranks the HD version by just over a 100 spots...
Toshiba HD-A2 will be $299.99 next week at Best Buy BTW.
The 360 add-on is too damn expensive.
Same price at CC too, and yeah the add-on no longer seems like such the deal it used to even if it was recently improved somewhat. I'm just glad I got in on a fully fledged player for only $40 more than the addon.
Best I know of is at Warner's store with the WBWEL code.
Or Deepdiscount.com, the prices between them and Warner are almost the same (I think deep discount is about $1 more). I ordered from Deepdiscount myself just because I've never had a problem with them.
Or at Best Buy next week....I believe if you buy it, you get two free HD-DVD's. Cehck Speedy's thread.
You have to buy it and an HD DVD player to get the 2 free HD DVD movies.

+++++ Purchase either Matrix Trilogy set & a Toshiba HD-DVD Player & get 2 more free HD-DVD movies instantly

For both, Circuit City & Best Buy

just FYI, the $299 HD DVD player at CC/BB doesn't do 1080p tho the 360 one does

so if you got a 1080p set, 360 drive is still the best since the XA2 is about $600

If you have an Elite or VGA connection that accepts it.

So does all copies of the 'complete collection' come with the free Animatrix download from LIVE, or is it just certain stores/chains?

Beginning this Sunday (May 20th) and continuing until June 16th, consumers buying Toshiba's HD-A2 model player will receive an an instant, in-store rebate of $100. During the final week of the promotion (from June 10th through June 16th), Toshiba will extend the $100 rebate to any Toshiba HD DVD player, and will offer an additional $100 rebate to consumers purchasing both an HD DVD player and a 42 inch (or larger) Toshiba HDTV.

I wonder if this brings the HD-A2 from $299 down to $199 next week?
hmm I may bite on getting that for my downstairs TV at that price. Especially if its $199.99 with 2 or 4 free HD-DVDs
Its actually with 5 HD DVD's right now...that and if you get the Matrix set you get 2 additional HD DVD's @ Circuit City.

might be a stupid question, but the 5 free hd dvds (7 at best buy/circuitcity) do you get to pick them from a store (bestbuy/circuitcity) or is it a mail in rebate thing? If it is a mail in rebate do they have a good selection? If it is intant at the store, do you have to take the 5 movies then or can you get a gift card or something? Most of the movies that have come out so far that I wanted, I have purchased.

I am going format neutral now with the great deal on the Toshiba's HD-A2. Can you explain how you can get 7 free HD-DVDs? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I just read Speedys Thread. So this Sunday I go to BB and I pick up the Toshiba's HD-A2 and Matrix and then I get two additional HD DVDs and then you get a mail in form for the other 5? And my last questions are the $100 rebate will come off automatically on the player and what movies should I pick up? Thanks for all the help.

I thought the A2 or A20 was suppose to be the first low cost 1080p output standalone player. What about outputting TrueHD to a receiver, can these standalones do that?
