HD DVD thread - Toshiba: HD DVD DISCONTINUED, REPAIR/SUPPORT CONTINUES, NO BLU PLANS
If Toshiba can lock up both Walmart and WB as exclusive supporters that could be huge.
They will likely get neither. Also, Bill Cunt is saying that the news article linked to above is old news (which would make sense, because there were those same WB exclusivity rumors flying around at the end of the week where Paramount went exclusive).

You honestly take Bill Hunt's word on something like this?

The guy who had a party held for him by Sony and was basically frothing at the mouth when Paramount announced they were dropping support for Blu-Ray (which Mr. Insider knew nothing about)?

have the fixed all the other titles on that wb site yet...

im prob going to make another order soon.. i never saw any of the "oceans" movies.

i also wouldnt mind getting the potter set. I really only remember/saw like one or two of those movies

I'm not saying he's right or wrong, I have no idea. It certainly wouldn't surprise me though since we did just hear similar news a couple of weeks ago.

New Line is making an announcement "soon" - not necessarily about exclusivity, just regarding FINALLY GETTING THE LEAD OUT OF THEIR ASS and releasing stuff. I need me some Nightmare on Elm Street & Freddy vs. Jason in HD.

blames lack of region coding for delay
Oh well, fuck them.

I don't see any other studio shitting their pants because certain movies are available in other regions.

Read this. Amir doesn't know anything about it, and is looking into it, it may not be totally true.

Either way, the only people it really hurts is NL. They can choose to charge a premium for HD discs, or force people to buy the SD version. It's their loss.

That came straight from a the New Line EVP of marketing.

"Since we sell to independent international distributors, we have to be more sensitive to their release dates than a major studio," Lasorsa added. "But for second-party acquisitions to which we don't have international rights, we will be day-and-date on all three formats."

Basically, so they don't want to sell the region free HD DVDs until their international buyer's theatrical runs are up. Kind sucks, but atleast it won't affet stuff like LOTR.
wow ppl are feisty (and ignorant) over at the digest smackdown forums
no shit, it's the gameFAQS of HD movies...........

Weinstein better get off their asses and release this as soon as possible on HD-DVD.

The dead have risen. In a sale that once seemed as slow as a zombie, the Weinstein Co. snapped up North American and Mexican rights to "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead."

While R-rated horror movies didn't perform well at the box office earlier this summer, Weinstein's "Halloween" bucked the trend with a record-breaking Labor Day opening. The latest sequel to Romero's 1968 horror classic "Night of the Living Dead" premiered late Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival and spooked out crowds.

Weinstein paid $2 million to $2.5 million for the rights Tuesday after several offers were considered, including some for video-only distribution. The Weinstein deal includes a theatrical commitment.
i hope weinstein doesn't totally change the movie tho like he did with zombie's halloween
I don't think he will.

Diary Of The Dead is already in the can/completed and I doubt George would have signed another contract that took away creative control from him.
Very nice. Let me know if the pitch speed-up annoys you, I've been thinking about picking those films up myself.
I don't really notice it so it doesn't bother me that much.
I remember they were saying Land of the Dead was to be a trilogy. I guess not now?
As far as I know, it wasn't. When Romero lectured at Full Sail in Orlando (2006 maybe? I can't remember), he didn't really seem overly happy with Hollywood's hand in Land. He wasn't as abrupt as Savini about ills of Hollywood, but you got the vibe he didn't want to do anything with a large budget/studio support ever again.

To take it slightly off topic, Romero is a work horse. He pulled two shows that night at Full Sail and was still willing to shoot the shit with fans at 4 AM. Not too many 65+ year olds I know could do that.

If only there was less "Um. Do you hate Zack Synder for remaking Dawn?" or "Don't you hate fast moving zombies?" questions at those things. To actually hear him discuss his career about being on the edge of Hollywood is extremely interesting. I only regret I didn't get him to sign my Dead DVDs, video tapes, and copy of Road to Fiddler's Green xbox game. A Dawn of the Dead print though will just have to do.
Warner has confirmed it will bring 'Twister' to HD DVD (and Blu-ray) on January 8, 2008:
wow, its been a long time since i saw that movie. i remember it being pretty good, bet it's gunna look awesome in HD. :D

I'm going to be importing the shit out of that one, fuck cost I must have it.

Underworld arrived in the mail today.

Unfortunately I can't watch it right now (damn errands), but I'll post my opinion on it sometime later today and also how it compares to the incredible picture quality of Underworld Evolution.

I really hope I get my HD drive back before Transformers drops. I really want to compare the SD and HD versions on a SDTV of the movies I bought from Amazon, and I'm using the SD versions as trade-in fodder for Transformers.

I'm hoping they are just behind after that whole month of being shut down thing, if they are actually no longer shipping orders in pieces then I have a huge issue.

I've made a giant order with them a few months ago with titles going all the way into December and I'll be damned if I going to wait until the 18th of December to get all of my movies in.
Is anyone getting this?

Too much for me for a movie I haven't seen in probably 10 years. That said, I did get the non-case edition and I'm anxious to see it.

Picked up Land of the Dead to make my 3rd foray into the HD-DVD market, and I have to say between that and Blood Diamond, the picture and sound quality that I've seen so far has been simply amazing. Well worth the extra money for the movies. Probably looking to snag Black Snake Moan next.

If those impressed you, Black Snake Moan will blow you away.

Shrek The Third 11/13:
'Shrek the Third' will hit HD DVD November 13 day-and-date with the standard-def DVD version, in a feature-packed next-gen edition brimming with exclusive content.
Supplements mirroring the DVD version include nearly a dozen featurettes, lost scenes, a DreamWorks Video Jukebox and theatrical trailers.
Exclusive to the HD DVD are "The Animator's Corner" picture-in-picture commentary featuring storyboards, deleted scene pitches and technical goofs, "My Menu" customizable character menu skins, and web-enabled features to be made available after street date, including a "Shrek's Trivia Track," "Donkey's Digital Coloring Book" and more.
Tech specs may disappoint, however, as DreamWorks has opted to not support high-resolution audio with 'Shrek the Third,' with the disc including a Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track (1.5mbps) only.

Man there are lots of announcements of new releases. I feel rather weird in that none of the upcoming releases really excite me except for Return to House on haunted hill.

Because I've seen everything else, and that just looks like a fun as hell party movie.

Finally got my HD-DVD add-on set up last night. I ended up watching 300 and it looked much better in HD over my parents upconverting DVD player. I'm probably gonna run down to Best Buy after work and pick up Hot Fuzz and possibly Shaun of the Dead. I know it's cheaper on Amazon but I have a rewards zone coupon.

That Bourne set is going to be nice.
