You can still find some if you know where to look, but yes they discontinued getting new ones.
YMMV. I don't rent movies that often, but I did notice that they had Blades of Glory for rent in the HD DVD section of my local BB the other day.

Yeah, Blockbuster.com is actually getting BETTER with their HD selection (both HD/BD actually). Before it would take FOREVER to ship, but now they have been really good. They actually shipped Knocked Up on MONDAY in HD...which was a nice surprise as they rarely ship early lately.

I did find a store that rents Blu-Ray now, so that is good for me also....the selection is decent, not great, but decent.

Lucky.

I had my Next HD-DVD shipped Monday but Knocked Up went straight from coming soon to long wait.

Looks like I took 1 of 5 copies ;)

However, the estimated shipping time is getting longer...hopefully it gets here sooner. Shipped: 9/24 - Estimated Arrival: 9/27

Same thing with my Next.

Usually they show up either the next day or the day after.
anyone have any answers to my questions?

is "next" a decent movie to watch?

Anyone know the PQ of "the last starfighter"
Not sure abou NEXT, I'm going to blindly buy it...

Last Starfighter got 2 out of 5 stars of PQ...guess its pretty bad.

I really enjoyed Next. Mind you I didnt watch the HD DVD version I plan on getting that one on HD DVD because it lends itself to ba a decent quality movie in HD. I'm still on the fence about getting knocked up in HD though. I just dont know if its worth buying a comedy in hd. I'll buy it regardless though.

Next is decent. If you like Nic Cage you'll enjoy it more than if you don't. HD DVD picture quality is much more detailed which makes some of the cheap CGI more noticeable.

Haven't gotten around to watching Last Starfighter yet, got it on my desk from BBV.
offtopic..

what does everyone think about this deal on a 42 in 1080p tv..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101097

it seems good to me. im planning on selling my 37 in olevia (possibly bundle with a 360) for around 800.. and i will prob sell that sound system that comes with it since i doubt its better than what i have now.

if i dont bundle maybe i can get around 600 straight up for my tv alone.
Seems like a pretty good deal. I know Best Buy has Samsungs with a FREE XBOX 360, which could be sold to recoup some of the costs....

Here is the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat131500050063&type=category

50" Slim DLP for $1500, with free Premium 360 basically. You can also get an Elite for $100 more or Halo Console for $50 more

not bad.. but i dont know if that would work.. i have limited space in my bedroom and i think lcd's work best on my stand.. plus tax would prob suck on that big purchase

Well, if you have a TV Stand, the slim depth DLP MIGHT work....all depends what type of stand. Plus, it IS a bedroom, so 50" Might be overkill. I was assuming this was your main TV.
:lol:So how the hell does Hogwarts work anyway? Is it like a boarding school or is it college in that after high school, you go to Hogwarts? I've only really seen the first two Potter films. That should put her, theoretically, at a legal age (year 5 of school/college/graduate school, not of age).

I don't know. I don't think anyone knows. And to be honest, I don't care too much. I only know Hogwarts is a place with magic wands and pubescent girls - what else do you need to know?

warnerstore is pissing me off
look in the hd dvd software section of avsforum, lots and lots of people are canceling orders. It's almost like warner is AWOl. It apparently can be a huge pain in the ass to cancel orders too. Nobody knows what is wrong with them, but they haven't shipped a thing since like Sept 10th.

To the guy who was asking about Next, I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, the budget is low so the CGI isn't good and Jessica Biel couldn't act her way out of a paper bag but I loved the plot and the dialog is fairly decent.

Also the PQ on this title is really good. At least Tier 1.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know that both Resident evils are up on amazon germany's site. I've been waiting for them but will probably wait and see if xploited cinema will post them as they look much easier and probably quicker to get as well.

here they are:

Enjoyed the movie, but the looks on Cage's face half the time I just couldn't stand to NOT laugh at him.

Just watched KNOCKED UP last night. The 360 add-on asked to download a COOKIE for the HD-DVD. Basically, you just have to let your 360 download this cookie, which is 11MB I believe. I thought my disc was faulty, because it sat on a LOADING page for a good 10 minutes probably. So, if anyone does this, just WAIT!!!

As for the movie....it had its moments....way too long for a comedy though.

good job paramount.. you definitely caught my attention now

Final specs are in for the highly-anticipated HD DVD debut of 'Shrek the Third,'

Expanding upon the picture-in-picture video commentary feature found on other HD DVDs, the "Animator's Reel" will not only present an entire alternate version of the film in storyboard form, but it will further utilize the format's HDi technology to offer a "contextual seamless branch" to lost scenes and other content.

'Shrek the Third' is also set to push the boundaries in terms of what's been offered as web-enabled content on previous HD DVD releases. DreamWorks says a number of additional exclusive features will be made available for download the day the disc hits stores, including a full-length subtitle trivia track, a movie guide with files on characters and talent in the film, plus an interactive coloring book feature that allows you to digitally paint your favorite scenes.
As previously announced, the disc will also provide users the ability to customize their own menus based on famous 'Shrek' characters. Once customized, the user's menu will become the default menu for the disc, even after it has been ejected from the player.
Additional features identical to the standard DVD edition of the film are set to include audio commentary, multiple making-of featurettes, deleted scenes sand more.

Please excuse my ignorance but is this due to be released in the US, or should I pick up a copy next time I'm back in the UK?

I heard that New Line plans to release it eventually but I haven't heard any date or anything.

I would guess it's coming sometime in 2008, probably early.
Holy shit.

1)Why is that $45?
2) Why is it coming out so much later than the DVD?
$45 is a lot for a 2 or 4 hour special. It hasn't even aired on tv yet, and on amazon it looks like it comes out the same day as the dvd

I know this is kind of late, but I didn't see it posted.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the US HD DVD release of Battlestar Galactica (2004) Season 1 on 4th December 2007 priced at $99.98 SRP. With the 12 colonies of man virtually destroyed in the climax of a hundred-year war with the Cylon Empire, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) gather up the few humans left and embark on a journey to find the mythical planet Earth, not realizing that the Cylon robot is no longer a recognizable enemy. Battlestar Galactica is a complete re-imagining of the 1970s series - upping the ante on the action, adventure, and drama that made the original so popular.

The Sci-Fi Channel hit series is now coming to HD DVD with all 13 Season 1 episodes and the mini-series which started it all spread across six-discs in 1080P Widescreen with Dolby True HD 5.1 Surround audio. The DVD extras are also ported across, and are accompanied by “Encyclopedia Galactica” - An interactive guide including ships, characters, colonies and flight training manual and a behind-the-scenes Picture-in-Picture feature – both on the mini-series.

Oh and apparently universal said Razor is not coming to HD DVD, so Amazon is confused. :bomb:

Dammit, I love bsg too much not to upgrade but do I want to part with that much cash for something I have seen on tv, seen it again on tv in HD, and own the dvd set.
I hate Blockbuster. Don't carry HD DVDs in most of their stores, and they have a "long wait" for Blockbuster online
Really?

My HD-DVDs queue is doing pretty good. All of the Heroes set is "available" while Knocked Up is long wait.

Anybody use Netflix for HD rentals? Wondering if I should go that route for stuff I want to watch, but not necessarily own...
Thanks for the tip.

Defintately. I hope they release the whole trilogy on HD DVD at the same time, just like the HP boxset.
Anybody use Netflix for HD rentals? Wondering if I should go that route for stuff I want to watch, but not necessarily own...
I've been with them for almost a year (when I bought the HD DVD 360 add-on) because no one locally rented HD DVD's. So far I've been pretty well satisfied, I've received one disc that wouldn't play all the way through out of 65 rentals.

There is a 'mail' facility here so my disc only take 1 day to send in, and 1 to get a new one (ie. I mail it Monday, they get it Tuesday and send me a new one for Wednesday) so it's quick.

finally finished heroes season 1.... what a fucking show. whoever hasnt bought it needs to get it

and yea netflix woops bb

now i can focus on smallville again... fucking warner.. how do i go about cancelling an order? i may have to just order from amazon or fye as i do not want to wait any longer

Guyver, I've watched as you've commented on all these tv series on HD DVD. Which is cool, you are a fan of the medium. So please tell me you intend to get BSG season 1 in december :).
