What's the story with the Blade Runner Ultimate Collector's Edition?

Just a way to cover possible short shipments or are pre-orders affected as well?

Also, the HD discs are all one-sided, non-combos right? I still can't decide whether to go with the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD version.
I believe that the Blu-Ray only has DD sound on the archival editions - someone correct me if I'm wrong - while HD DVD has DD+ (both formats have TrueHD for the "Final Cut" movie)...here's the back of the HD DVD:

Plus the blue case looks worse with the artwork...if that matters to you ;)

maybe WHV actually sent items to people who ordered from them first, instead of to the distributors :D

i got mine last week but i still haven't opened it up yet since i left it at my office

here's some crappy pictures

Do they sell the movie as a one disc movie? I saw the commercial on TV and it looks interesting, never seen the movie before but seems like my cup of tea. I'd love to get it as cheaply as possible.

Are you talking about Blade Runner? If so, it only comes in the five disc set.

Which isn't a bad thing because the non-blinged out one is only $27.95

Yes sorry, I was talking about Blade Runner. I was really hoping for an under $20 price since it would be a blind buy for me. I'll wait on this, maybe some CAG's will trade their copies later on, or if I have the guts I'll place an order therough WHV again.

Linkin, the Blade Runner set is well worth the $40 MSRP, nevermind the discounted $28 Amazon price. It is one of the best scifi movies ever made and you get 5 versions of the movie in this set + a boatload of extras. Even for a blind buy I'd say jump on it.

Also, I highly recommend people to buy the new Queen Live HD DVD. It is AMAZING.

Look what the UPS man just left under my doormat.

Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains The Same, The Bourne Trilogy from Amazon and Blade Runner: Complete 5 Disc Set from WHV.

Only one I checked out so far was the Led Zeppelin one. There's nothing wrong with it and it looks pretty good. On par with the Queen HD-DVD.

I hope I'm getting Bourne Ultimatum for Xmas. I know I'm getting Transformers (kinda bought it myself to make sure), and I think I'm getting Oceans 13.

Linkin, buy Blade Runner. You wont regret it. But FYI, you might not like the movie that much the 1st time, but it gets better the more times you watch it.

I went ahead with the Blade Runner briefcase set on HD-DVD. Bookmarking on HD players usually tip the scales for me. Hopefully I get it in a few days.

Also, between the A3 and A30, there's a $20 difference (or thereabouts) on Amazon. I'm looking to pick one up for the guest room, but that TV only supports 720p. Is there any reason to go with the 1080p capable set or are there other features I'm unaware of between the two players?

I guess I'll get Blade Runner after X-Mas, since I should have a good amount of Gift Cards for Best Buy...thanks for the encouragement gusy :)

For those of you wondering on the Crank HD DVD (German) import, a user at AVS has posted impressions:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=946214

Basically its VC-1 coding and it looks phenomenal, he couldn't see a sound improvement over the DVD. I'm so getting this with Fantastic Four: RotSS

EDIT: Just found out that Crank 2: High Voltage is in the works  Awesome!
Chelios faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.

Guess he didn't
die
after all.

That's awesome news. I was wondering how they could do another one. I can come up with one of two scenarios:

1. It's a prequel since it's highly unlikely he fell hundreds (more like thousands since he was able to get a phone call in) of feet, smash a car, bounce another hundred feet or so and hit the pavement, and lived.

2. They'll act like the first movie never happened, which would be kinda cool. Then you could have a bunch of those movies and as long as they completely ignore the others it'd work.

It's going to be a direct sequel picking up immediately after the first one.

Empire caught up with Crank co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine recently and they spilled some details about the Crank sequel, set to shoot early next year. Warning: There are spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the first film.

"Crank 2 will pick up exactly where Crank one ends," says Taylor. "It's a true sequel. Jason Statham will return. It's not a prequel, it's not his brother, it's not a dream sequence. He will [scrape himself off the floor]".

As you'll no doubt remember, Crank ended with Jason Statham plummeting from a helicopter clutching the bad guy, since he was already doomed due to the poison that had been injected into his body and would kill him if his heart rate dropped below rutting rabbit levels. This would seem to make it tricky for the character to come back.

"We're finding that a lot of people were thinking, 'Oh, Crank 2 can't be done'," adds Neveldine. "But we came up with an idea, we wrote the script, and after the studio read it they couldn’t believe that we pulled it off. And of course, the best test was giving it to Jason and Jason turned down every other project so he could do this, start this in the spring of next year. He was so excited, he couldn’t believe it".

As are we! For ridiculous, hilarious, literally adrenaline-fuelled antics, Crank was hard to beat. And the directors promise this will go bigger.

"It’s going to be more sexual, more violent – more of everything," laughs Taylor. "We realise with a movie like Crank, you can’t do a sequel and do 60% or 70% of what the original was. You have to go twice as hard. So that’s what we’re going to do. If we’re going to live up to the first one with the sequel – we’re taking it WAY past the point of the first one".

Crank 2 is set to start shooting on April 25, 2008.

as much as I love the bourne movies, I really wish Universal would've used the theatrical posters as the covers for the first two.

I think they capture the mood of the movies perfectly --

1. A man on the run, no idea what the hell is going on
2. A man on a mission
3. A man at the end of his journey.

Bastard... i know Warner isn't going to send my Blade Runner till the new year...
Someone please explain the quote in Sarang's sig to me. I have long been entranced yet baffled by it.
""Blu-Ray! We park our bike in your back door!""

You know. 40 year Old Virgin. HD DVD puts it in Blu-Rays ass!

You should check your MyExpressCheckout thing and see if they shipped your order.

As long as you don't have a super old order (from September), you should be getting it soon.

Thanks. I haven't watched that movie in its entirety.

I'm thinking about picking up the regular 5-disc HD set on Wednesday.

Is Best Buy's $34.99 price the best B&M price this week?

Also I bought my first HD-DVD in over 3 months yesterday. Transformers. It looks frikkin fantastic.
I asked this in the other thread but wasn't answered: Are there any non-combo versions of Bourne Ultimatum?
I don't believe there are. Frustrating since I really want the set. Combos have been holding me back from a few movies I've really wanted to watch.

fye rebates seem to be broken

if you pre submit you can get an insane amount for each movie

i got $30 gift cards for Simpsons Movie, Bourne, Superbad

$20 gift card for I Know Who Killed Me and Reescue Dawn

and there was an offer for $30 gift card for Stardust I just filled out

you can presubmit before you buy to see if its worth it :D

Just got the Blade Runner briefcase set from Amazon. I'll post pics of the contents in a few if anyone's interested. Looks like this "LE" was limited to 103,000.

On a side note: Anyone know how Warner does the disc exchange process if they do at all? Disc 5 of my set is scratched all to hell. I doubt they'd want me to send the whole thing back.

I don't know what crawled up Best Buy's ass but they upgraded my BOGO order up to 2 day shipping for free.

Just got it today.
If you don't mind importing, Amazon.co.uk has the HD DVD only version available:

With way better cover art I might add.
Australia also has it.

Which is nice since their dollar is weaker than ours.
Well, it's official for me. I've turned purple (or neutral, whatever it's called).

Picked up Bourne Ultimatum and Spiderman 3 from BB.
Weak...:nottalking:....jk.

I saw that 5 star review for Blade Runner, I'll definately have to pick that one up sometime soon.
gold box has the lawless and naked beneath the water for $13.25 EACH
I can vouch for Naked Beneath the Water being a great film; maybe I'm a little biased, cause I'm in it.

Still, all CAG should support indie horror films and pick this one up. Som of the effects/gore and editing are amazing.

I watched part of Blade Runner and how the fuck did they get a movie from the early 80s to look so good?

Really there's 0 grain, tons of detail/beautiful scenes and it doesn't feel dated at all.

Damn, damn, damn, I can't wait to watch this film soon.

Yeah unfortunetly i pre ordered on day one... grumble

I popped in Bourne with my new 360 and at first it wouldn't read. On the second try it did.

Anyway, I'm taking my add on and 360 to my dad's house over the break. When I popped in Bourne it updated the firmware (I'm assuming). So, does that mean my firmware is up to date and can play all the movies before Bourne came out? I won't be able to hook live up at his house, so I need to know if I have to put in other HD DVDs to have them update too.
so swhers the best place to order/get bladerunner?

is the wbstore coupon still circulating? how much does it come out to?
WB Coupon is DCBM, Blade Runner comes out to about $23.

On another note, Beowulf has be set for February 26

anyone know what the Land of the Dead re-issue is about? Just to non combo or are they adding stuff? i think uni likes combo disks so why would they re release it as non combo? Thats Warners thing

i hope amazon ships out eastern promises or the kingdom tomorrow so i can get them before the holiday

Hey cool - not to get too off topic - but do you carry a major role in that movie? I've been a horror buff for many years and it's good to see a CaG getting a piece of the action ;) - Did you check out Horrorfest this year?

It's just going to be a non-combo and that was Universal's (Unleashed/Army Of Darkness) thing before Warner started to do it
It's just going to be a non-combo and that was Universal's (Unleashed/Army Of Darkness) thing before Warner started to do it
whoops i forgot about those

i remember they axed the special features from those too, since they were all on the SD side

edit: guess these are missing extras too

Unfortunately, 'Dazed & Confused' and 'Land of the Dead' will lose most of their bonus features in the conversion. The combo versions of both titles featured the majority of supplements on only the DVD side of the sics, and since Universal will not be re-encoding the stand-alone versions but simply dropping the DVD side, that means the extras will be zapped in the process.

The studio has confirmed that 'Dazed & Confused' will now sport not a single special feature, while 'Land of the Dead' will retain only the screen-specific audio commentary with George Romero, producer Peter Grunwald and editor Michael Doherty.

It doesn't work like games. If you got an update, it should make it the latest for all known disc issues.
