Unfortunately, 'Dazed & Confused' and 'Land of the Dead' will lose most of their bonus features in the conversion. The combo versions of both titles featured the majority of supplements on only the DVD side of the sics, and since Universal will not be re-encoding the stand-alone versions but simply dropping the DVD side, that means the extras will be zapped in the process.

The studio has confirmed that 'Dazed & Confused' will now sport not a single special feature, while 'Land of the Dead' will retain only the screen-specific audio commentary with George Romero, producer Peter Grunwald and editor Michael Doherty.
Just a side note...most of the time I'll say "fuck the extras, go with the HD disc" but in this case...if someone wants Dazed and Confused, but doesn't own the Criterion Collection DVD, they are insane. The transfer is pretty damn good by comparison anyway and will serve nicely until a good HD DVD version shows up.

Just picked up the Will Ferrell "HD DVD starter pack" at Best Buy, but I already have Blades...

Anyone want a sealed copy of Blades of Glory for 15 bucks? (shipping included)

Just picked up the Will Ferrell "HD DVD starter pack" at Best Buy....50 bucks for Anchorman/Old School/BoG isn't bad at all, especially when I'll make about 17-20 bucks on Ebay selling Blades.

Is it dubbed in English? I don't do subtitles unless its Anime.

Yikes, I couldn't imagine watching that movie dubbed and not wanting to kill small kitties. :)
Is it dubbed in English? I don't do subtitles unless its Anime.
I feel the same way somewhat, but after seeing it in the theatre I can definitely say it's worth it.
Anyone see The Kingdom? I saw a commercial for it and they made it sound a hell of a lot more interesting than the previews I saw in theaters.
No.. no lossless audio track.

I saw it in theaters, not worth a buy.. rental

Check out what I just got from XploitedCinema...

I posted this in the HD DVD imports thread but I figured some of you that don't import may not see it. Anyway's I popped in Crank and I was blown away. I checked out a few random scenes and there's absolutely no sign of grain and it looks like its a flawless transfer. The sound is incredible as well, by far my favorite HD DVD so far. This movie defines "the look and sound of perfect."

I really, really hope the "fuck YOU" on the disc was written by someone and not part of the disc itself.

(Yes, I know it isn't. Yes, I've seen the movie.)

HD-A3 is down to $178.52 @ Amazon.com and is now back with the 10 free HD-DVD offer. The selection has changed from last time, though.
I never seen Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black...which one should I watch first to enjoy both films in chronological order?
Riddick is the sequel. Watch Pitch Black first.
Riddick is the sequel. Watch Pitch Black first.
Thanks. I could have sworn that I heard Riddick was a prequel at some point.

Pitch Black is easier to enjoy first anyway. Was a way better movie IMO - I actually walked out of the theatre 10-15 minutes early for Riddick.
Thanks. I could have sworn that I heard Riddick was a prequel at some point.
The video game has the title in it. Escape from Butcher Bay is a prequel to the events in Pitch Black.

EFBB > Pitch Black > Dark Fury > CoR

riddick is a great movie..very underappreciated.

Watch the director's cut.

The riddick character is awesome..just like Malcom Reynolds in firefly and Jason Bourne in the Bourne movies.
Play Escape from Butcher Bay first before even watching Pitch Black, then once you're done with the amazing game you can enjoy an even more amazing movie.
Being that the game is not BC and that my XBOX isn't plugged in, I'm waiting for the remake that's supposed to hit XBOX360 sometime soon.

pitch black was awesome.. im still waiting for amazon to include cor in a bogo or something..

too bad they dont seem to be copying the bb sale this week

Picked up six movies today.

Eastern Promises.

Holy god. Best movie ive seen in a long time, took best buy 3 hours to find it on hd dvd, but damnit its worth it. Pq, Audio, Movie, all great, definite recommend.

Now onto the other 5 I bought.. Kingdom.. Hot Rod.. Black snake moan.. Heartbreak Kid.. Balls of fury..

i wish they would pump out an update for the hd players to improve dvd upscaling..

i like how the ps3 automatically stretches 4:3 non widescreen dvd's to full screen.. with the hd player theres no way to stretch the images.. i have to go into the setup and change display type to 4:3

i am currently using the a2 again since transformers doesnt wanna work on the a3. we need another compat. update

I'm wondering about the fate of the Add-on .

The Toys R Us clearance is hopefully the first step that will lead to the Elite HD DVD rumor coming true .

Major Nelson subtlely mentioned to be ready for a CES/HD DVD announcement .
Most likely hardware related , not WB exclusivity .
I still think adding a built-in HD-DVD drive to the Xbox 360 would be a huge mistake and giant stumble by MS/Toshiba.
How? Thats like saying it was a huge mistake for Sony to put in Blu Ray in the PS3.
they would have to shuffle pricing again...

they would have to match the 399 40gb ps3 pricepoint
Sure but then more people would have it and use it. The only people that have the HD DVD player at additional cost are the people who want it. Now if if it was already built into the system many gamers/people would probably take advantage of using it ( the same people who otherwise wouldn't buy the add on player ).

It's pretty much all about people trying something. Like I said they may try it since it comes with it and actually really like it unlike now whereas now it doesn't come with it and most regular average joes wouldn't go out and spend another 179.99 on it just to give it a try.

Also anyway you look at it it's pretty much the same price as the PS3 anywho. I'm not sure why they are trying to hide it so much.

This may be incoherent. I'm kinda tired and I tried to word it as best as possible :D
How? Thats like saying it was a huge mistake for Sony to put in Blu Ray in the PS3.
It was.

Sony putting Blu-Ray in the PS3 was a very premature decision and they sacrificed a ton of console marketshare for a tiny market/foothold. Since the PS3 wasn't the knockout blow they were imagining it would be, they would have been much better off just eating standalone player cost right out of the gate and attempting to get the PS3's cost back to a more realistic price. It would have had the same effect and it wouldn't have been at the cost of potential PS3 sales.

And while the idea of having a Blu-Ray player in every home with a Playstation may have wooed studios in the beginning; The end result was that it deluded their attach rate, undercut the companies making standalone players and really kind of proved that right now gamers don't care about HD movies (if they did, the current numbers would be a completely different story)

To compare it to a past mistake, it's almost on the level of when Sega decided to focus on online gaming with the Dreamcast. Very good idea but about 3-4 years too early.

If MS were smart they would stay the course, build up their lead and prepare to put a HD-DVD drive in every version of the Xbox 360 successor. That way they don't split their fanbase, don't give the PS3 anymore opportunity to catch up, don't sacrifice any marketshare from added cost, and by the time the 360's successor is announced/released hopefully HDM will be mainstream with people realizing that both formats are here to stay.

The only way a 360 with a built in HD-DVD drive wouldn't be a MASSIVE mistake is if Microsoft confirms that no 360 games will ever utilize it and if it only takes the Elite's place with no added cost.

The add-on was clearanced over the summer at some places. I don't necessarily think one is related to the other unless we see clearances at multiple retailers.

Where? Podcast?

Damn, Warner just loves sending me free shit. Just recieved two boxes, one containing another copy of Blade Runner and the other containing Best Of HD-DVD Vol 3 (too bad I bought Departed/Goodfellas during the Amazon BOGO). Both are from canceled orders that are showed as canceled on their site.

They also seemed to mail out my Pan's Labyrinth today, but that's one I actually wanted so they charged me :)

Yeah i Just also received the Harry Potter Giftset and Ocean's Trilogy which I canceled. I did not get charged. Are they going to end up charging me or I just got free stuff?

Awesome. I have a free Blade Runner on the way, but after that, sadly my mega-order-turned-free is exhausted.

I'll take Blade Runner off your hands...I can trade you for Knocked Up or Bourne Ultimatum...both sealed.

Yes , on the podcast . Probably no big deal .

From what Ive heard, expect exactly that. $449 Elite with HD DVD drive (though it will be Toshiba's newer one capable of playing 360 games). = Bundled Remote.
Hmm...B2G1F sale + 360 stuff, or PS3..

:whistle2:k
I'd say go for the B2G1F + 360 stuff...the PS3 can wait. Just get it by next X-Mas, it should have a friendlier price drop then and it should have more games and the couple of hits now will be Greatest Hits by then so win win ;)
Craigslist?
Possibly, but I won't jack the thread any longer.

It's really too bad no giftsets are included in this. I'd jump all over the Ocean's Trilogy in a heartbeat.

Theres no way a built in hd dvd player would benefit the 360.

Why?

Cost. It would raise the price of the 360 drastically.. :(

I cant find cat people at any best buy or circuit city damnit
Yeah i Just also received the Harry Potter Giftset and Ocean's Trilogy which I canceled. I did not get charged. Are they going to end up charging me or I just got free stuff?
When I called Warner back it a few months ago, they said they it shown as cancelled in the system, they had no records of a package going out, they wouldn't charge me and that I could either keep it or pay money out of my own pocket to send it back. To quote the phone person "HEY FREE MOVIES :bouncy: JUST KEEP THEM"
I'll take Blade Runner off your hands...I can trade you for Knocked Up or Bourne Ultimatum...both sealed.
Sorry, I already have a sealed copy of Knocked Up I am trying to get rid of and I already have the Bourne Trilogy.

Now that wouldn't be half bad.
