Picked up an A3 for the guest room. Having some audio problems at set up so I hope someone can help me out.

I connected it to the TV with HDMI and the receiver via optical. It's outputting via the optical fine now, but I still get fed sound through the TV and there's a slight delay there causing a slight echo. I couldn't find a way in the player menu to cut down the audio signal feeding through the HDMI. Am I just missing it? Right now, I have to either cut off the speakers of the TV (which means the guest will have to go into the menu and turn it back on for the TV) or just turn the volume down. A slight inconvenience.

Thanks.

HD for the "guest room"?

Can I be your guest?

Better yet, can you get me a job where you work? ;)

well this is wierd...i finally found a replacement for my severly dented HD DVD Forbidden planet set at Best buy and now when i opened it it looks like it just has the regular DVD 2 disc set with no mention of HD DVD anywhere on the discs, the carboard wrap around the tin definately states HD DVD...anybody ever heard of this?
he may have meant disturbia
I tuned that guy out because I thought for sure he meant Disturbia, but if Suburbia is out in some region for HD DVD, someone point me to it.
hbk, mummy returns, and serenity just arrived :)

seriously i think i have a backlog of over 15 movies that i have yet to watch
I know the feeling.

I still have to watch Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum, Blade Runner, Eastern Promises, Frighteners, Polar Express, Traffic, Serenity and Troy: Director Cut.

That isn't counting the DVDs I have and The Kingdom HD-DVD from Blockbuster Online.

I'm been furiously watching away, but I'm still backed up on multiple versions of Blade Runner (including the Final Cut), The Aviator, and Harry Potter 2 & 5. Hot Fuzz and Children of Men will be here tomorrow, with Harry Potter 3 & 4 early next week. Plus whatever I get after I inevitably get sucked into that buy 3 / get 2 sale at Best Buy.

did you update the firmware?

Did you change the settings on the setup menu to the correct audio input?

the only reason youd get a signal feedback through either source is because both are plugged in when they shouldnt be.
I just watched The Kingdom and holy shit is it a stinker.

I haven't cringed that much during a movie in years.
Why? I know quite a few people that have seen it that thought it was enjoyable. I don't know anyone that thought it was terrible.

I enjoyed it greatly. It felt like one of the old hong kong detective stories that ends in some crazy action scene.

Personally, the part of the plot I wasn't too thrilled about was:

The good guys only found the bad guys because they were attacked and they followed them back to their hideout. This is pretty much my biggest complaint - the deus ex machina was too blatant.

Heck, I would have accepted even some kind of CSI babble to link point a to point b.

However, it has one of the more decent tactical gunfights I've seen in recent history. I would probably recommend this movie as a rent, but caveat it for the weak plotting.

Was it just me, or did anyone else find the dolby digital plus soundtrack on the HD-DVD a bit weak? The sound had to be cranked up, and it didn't utilize the surrounds too much. (I thought it might be the calibration of my system, but the opening studio logo music was loud and rich in comparison)

It's a star-vehicle that is packed to the gills with cliches, bullshit character/story development, everything that is "hot" in Hollywood right now (shaky-cam all over, arabs, attempting to add a super deep meaning at the end) topped off with the director clumsily trying to pull your heartstrings.

I can imagine the guys at Universal going :bouncy: we got an oscar/golden globe winning blockbuster on our hands :bouncy:

It's lame on an even worse level than Babel or Crash.
Not sure if it was the disc or the 360 hd dvd add on...I finally got around to watching smoking aces. It is the combo disc, and I had let my friend borrow it awhile ago to watch it on the dvd side. Towards the end of the movie on the hd dvd side, it would freeze up, skip forward and a whole bunch of time delay problems were happening. I tried taking the disc out, made sure there were no scratches and put it back in. Same thing happened again. It was even a problem trying to fast forward it. Is this a hardware issue with my hd dvd player, or a faulty disc? Granted I will be watching another movie tonight, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had these problems from the hardware side of things so I could be prepared that the movie tonight won't work.
Yeah, Smokin' Aces had a bad run, Uni will replace it for you.

Anyone going for the B3G2 Best Buy thing, I recommend buying online as their selection is larger and shipping is free. Three of the discs I bought are not available in-store. I got all $25 titles so it came out to under 16 per disc. If you get more than one $30 title it sort of kills the deal if you still have your Amazon discount, but if not it's not too bad.

+The Hurricane
+Being John Malkovich
+The Last Starfighter
+Hustle & Flow
+Serenity

Those are all non-Warner, I try to stay away from Warner stuff on sales like this since you'll always get the best price on their stuff directly from them.

A 1080p rip of Island Fever 4 with full screenshots is up at Empornium.

Thankfully (from what I saw from the screenshots) it's slightly soft and not as rough as Girlvana 3 (which was eye-scarringly horrible from the skanks they had)

- edit I guess I could post one image as long as I edit it. I don't know if this was taken from the HD-DVD or the compressed file he made.

Yeah.. my best buy's hd dvd selections. for all 3 stores here in ohio. Suckk

Buying online is just the better way to go for this sale :( But my hd dvd player died, and even with the warranty at best buy I still am waiting another two weeks.

They said theyd either fix it, or if they can't,(disc drive made loud buzzing noise, louder than a 360, froze constantly, etc) they'd give me my 423.xx back and let me get an HD-A40 the new one for the same price.

So hopefully it wont get fixed -_-V

Amazon has both The Hurricane & Serenity for $19.95 total with B1G1F. $9.95 a disc sounds better than $16. May want to cancel your order and select another two movies.

Honestly, it took me so long to even find five non-Warner movies I wanted that it doesn't matter to me. I juggled that order for like an hour before I placed it.

Too late to cancel...plus I spent so long finding 5 movies I even wanted that I don't really care at this point. If I figure out something else I can always exchange one of them at the store when they arrive I guess.
A 12g porno? wtf is wrong with you guys!
I'm doing a comparison between the standard def version of the movie and the HD version. Yeah, that's it...
Jeez, you guys would just be better off paying the $35 for it instead of actually trying to download it.

pretty cool

looks like jan gonna be pretty boring in terms of releases, feb needs to get here quick

i wanna get a new TV, anyone have the sony a3000? the rear projection one?

Everyone should buy The Pianist when it comes out. It is fantastic and destroys Schindler's List IMO.

I'm also looking forward to Zodiac. I missed that one in theaters.

yea those are the two i want for january

maybe i'll get The Invasion too from WHV

feb i'm looking to pick up into the wild, valley of elah, michael clayton, assassination of jesse james, beowulf, justice league

Feburary is completely dead for me buywise. I'll end up renting Into The Wild, Jesse James, Micheal Clayton and Things We Lost In The Fire.

Which is a good thing because March and early April are going to hurt.

Bonnie & Clyde
UFC: The Best of 2007
IMAX: Coral Reef Adventure
IMAX: Fighter Pilot - Operation Red Flag
UFO: Showtime
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

If it's anything like the UK import, you shouldn't be disappointed.
i wanna get a new TV, anyone have the sony a3000? the rear projection one?
I just got the KDS-60A3000 a week and a half ago. I bought it from Crutchfield for $1699 + tax (special phone price - just call them and mention you heard there is a special price if ordering over the phone...if they have any left). If you're looking to get one, you'd better act fast; Sony is getting out of the rear projection market, so the A3000 series is discontinued.

It's my first HDTV (an upgrade from a 10-year-old 36" 800x600 computer monitor), so I've been very pleased with the picture quality. The picture gets a little darker when you view it away from the horizontal or vertical sweet spot, but it's nowhere near as bad as reviews led me to believe; I find it very acceptable. Otherwise, I have no complaints about it at all. I'm really loving the size; 60" is huge for my living room, and it really makes for an immersive picture.

I'm waiting for my HDMI cables to come from Monoprice.com (they should arrive tomorrow), so I've seen the picture only through component cables so far. I've watched 1080i output from my cable box and 1080p output through my 360, and I watched an HD-DVD (300) on my HD-A30. 300 looked slightly grainy, though I'm not sure if that was an intentional (read:artistic) effect of the filmmaking, or a result of using component cables instead of HDMI. Everything else looks amazing on it, especially Discovery Channel HD. It's amazing what a difference it's made in 360 games, too; I played a lot of Halo 3 on my old TV, but there were so many details I didn't notice until I played it on this TV (for example, the lines from Master Chief's visor on the screen).

I definitely recommend the TV. It's hard to beat the size and quality for the price. If there are any specific questions you'd like me to answer, let me know and I'll be happy to help. I can also post pictures if you'd like.

I may get Zodiac, but the first two months of the year are frighteningly barren. I'm pretty disappointed that the HD DVD side would make the same fucking mistake two years in a row...yes, it's not as bad as the utter drought of last year, but considering the momentum they built up during the last several months, they should be rolling along at a strong clip now. I hope they have some bombshells for March and beyond to announced at CES - which I'm not counting on since they don't seem to be that big on announcing titles at CES - because if they go all the way into April again with nothing noteworthy, it'll do a lot more to kill the format than any Blu-Ray price drops.

I also hope they at least tease some 4th gen players...not showing anything would likely be interpreted as them getting ready to give up.

nice thanks, sounds like a good tv, think i'll order it in the morning

i was gonna get it from Crutchfield too, but Vann's has the 60 inch + the $400 stand for 1999 free shipping no tax

i seen it at the sony store over the weekend and was gonna buy it there, but its so over priced there

right now i only got 37 inch 720p, been putting off watching movies because i wanted to wait til i got 1080p

The line-up so far for all of '08 doesn't look that good at all. Hopefully there are some recent announcements for some releases on-par with Transformers on the recent films side.

Patience young padawan...just wait for CES next week, I'm sure we'll hear all kinds of good stuff...atleast that's what I'm expecting.

Finaly picked up Blade Runner...I'll check it out sometime this week...I'm watching WAR tonight.

I cant wait for White Noise 2 Personally.

*correction* called best buy and talked to the manager there who helped me before.

He said, once again, HD-A40. -_-V Im pretty sure he means HD-A35.

But hey he works at best buy and not me :(
