Help Destroy a signed Jack Thompson book for charity! - video linked
Just posted a link to Fark.com
Lets see if it gets greenlighted
EDIT...and it was already listed yesterday and was not picked. Bastards.
Yeah, I already tried that twice - were there any comments made in the thread part? I'm not a TFarker.

BTW, sudden idea. Try and contact Stern; if a bunch of us email the Howard Stern show about this auction he may pick up on it - he HATES Thompson. Frankly I'd be honored if the king of all media talks about it.
in a recent interview with a paper who spoke to him about a recent lawsuit filed against the florida bar, Thompson said this:

"I enjoy doing what I do and I think I've got a First Amendment right to annoy people and participate in the public square in the cultural war,"

So did he just supply me my own defense or what?
If for some reason you find yourself actually needing to front a defense for your actions that quote and the one in the book is all you need.

I quote, "Follow your passions as I have". Its clear your passion is to respect free speech but to challenge those who would use that tool to lie and distort while helping those less fortunate. I must say we should all aspire to have the same passions you have Visc.

He doesnt really hate him any more as JT stuck up for him recently re: the CBS lawsuit.

damn. it.

When i saw that your original post was locked I had shocked googley eyes....

But its alive and the auction is doing well so far...:applause:

I just read through this entire post and I must say, this is a great thing you are doing Visc. Your helping a charity and destroying 1 piece of material that doesn't need to even exist. Once the auctions over, you should take a video of you destroying the book via the winners method so everyone can benefit from it. :)

I posted a link on my site (DreamStation.cc) I'll also mention it to the guys who host the DreamStation VideoGame Show since they like ragging on this guy and see if they don't hit on the topic for this coming weeks episode.

Why doesnt someone ask the seller (Visc) a question about has jack thompson contacted him with threats? Then the stuff JT has done can be seen ....

While I happen to think thats a good idea - if I post legal threats I may be getting, I think ebay ould end up pulling it.

While I'm still here, no real updates to report today, just the price is now up a bit.

Very nice sale for a very good cause. Are we open to suggestions to try and sway/assisst the top bidder? And do we get to see the vid?

Has anyone here bid on it. I'm thinking about it but I need to come up with a great way to send this bitch off.

Yes, some people here have bid on it from what I've seen. Heck, if you guys want to pull together as a group and make a combined effort bid on the book, where everyone either gets to add something to the book's demise, or I divy it up by pages, I'd be all for that too.

And since part of my plan was to send video to collegehumor.com , I think sharing the video wouldn't be a problem unless the winning bidder objects.

No, I was just expecting it to change by now. I'd be surprised to win this at $75.

If this keeps up, I'll have to start brainstorming some destructive ideas...
So Visc...what will you do if the winner actually wants the book to be "dropped from a cessna at 15,000 feet"? :p
Already covered - friend of a friend has one :p

Slander actually refers to spoken words. Libel involves written communication. To be considered libelous, a statement has to be false. I don't think your auction falls under this category, because you're not saying anything about him directly. As far as I can tell, you're actions may be protected under the 1st Amendent (symbolic speech). Although, you could consider it defamation of his character. It's nearly impossible to prove defamation in court, because public figures have to prove that you posted the auction with "malicious" intentions. Then again, he might not be considered a public figure. In that case, it would be easier for him to win the case. My two sense: He's just trying to scare you. If he took you to court, the judge would laugh in his face. Why would they want to waste their time with some guy destroying one copy of this loser's book? Plus, the auction is intended to aid a charity, not malicously attack him. Remember when Sinead O'Connor destroyed the picture of the Pope on SNL? Free speech, baby! I'm not an expert on this stuff. I'm just trying to let you know what I think. And I say: Stick with it!

From Jack -
"Actually, I caught the kid doing this and he's in a lot of trouble with his parents. He asked for the book, posing as someone who wanted it for one purpose when in fact he wanted it for this purpose--fraud.

How typical that a gamer would engage in bookburning in defense of, uh, freedom of expression. You gamers are such blind hypocrites that you don't see the inconcistency, the juvenile pettiness of destroying that with which you disagree.

By the way, all the studies now show that violent video game play causes harm to knuckleheads like you. That's why you're knuckleheads. Duh. Jack Thompson"

From Visc-
"I should probably refute a few things that our gracious Mr. Thompson has claimed.

1. I'm not a "kid" as you might think, and no, I'm not in trouble at all. I have the full support of my family, friends, and coworkers, and have been told I have nothing to worry about from scare tactics. If i was "in trouble" the auction would have been pulled and I would have been evicted; neither is happening. Frankly, all you did was tick everyone in the building off qith your 8am phone calls - which if you do again, will be considered harassment.
2. "the juvenile pettiness of destroying that with which you disagree" - I want you to remember those words the next time you make the threat of "say bye bye to Rockstar", or something moronic like that. Seriously, you need to watch out for irony when you speak. Better yet, the next time you have a thought, let it go.

Lastly, this auction will be win-win in all circumstances. The money is going to a well deserved charity, and the value it sells at is a determining factor; If it sells very high, then it shows how much people are willing to help charities to spite Thompson. If it stays low, then it just shows how worthless his autograph is. I don't have the exact count right now, but I think this is the fourth charity inspiration Mr. Thompson has created - the first being the ten grand from Penny-Arcade after Jack backed off of his claim to do so, then there's the Flowers for Jack campaign, there is the sale of Pixelante shirts currently going on, which were inspired by Thompson's own attempt at insulting us, and then there's this auction. So to conclude, all he is doing is bringing out the charitable side of gamers at his own expense. Have a nice day everyone."

Nice :)

Visc you are the man. Great response, especially keeping your cool. And what the hell is jacky boy doing on forums flaming a charity. What a ass hat
http://www.pspupdates.com is now covering the auction as well. Thompson gave a response in the comments section too - #49 I think
Those "gamers", I swear they are going to bring this country down one day, being knuckleheads and all...DUH!

Congratulations Visc.
And in response to a post earlier in this thread, I'd have to say Jack reminds me of Tiny the Tiger from Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. First, Tiny breaks out of chains attached to pillars (scare tactics), then he jumps around four or five times trying to hit you, all of the jumps can be easily avoided with a step or two (his false legal "attacks"), then, his spear gets caught and you hit him (him getting "caught" trying to fool you). After this, he steps out of the arena and unleashes tigers on you, which can be easily sidestepped or jumped over (his 'lawsuits'). There, you win :D

I swear did this guy have a stroke a few years back or something how the hell did he pass the bar with him being such an idiot.
it is people like that, that make me hate organized religion

Ya, hating religion because of a few bad people is nothing like Jack hating all gamers because of a few bad people... oh wait...

It is not the only reason just one of many

Hi, I'm the guy who won the auction and I thought that I should tell you how I plan to destory the book. Keep In mind I havn't email Visc yet so things could change. First I'm going to have him dress up the book to look like one of the whores in Grand Theft Auto. Then I'm going to have him put some money inside then if possible have him act like a dissatisfied customer. Then he'll beat the book up with a baseball bat, take the money back, shoot it with a shotgun at point blank range, burn what evers left of the book, mix the ashs in with some concrete, and then dropping the book into the nearest and deepest body of water Visc can find.

Sounds good to me!

Congratulations on winning the auction! And thanks for donating your money to a great charitable cause.

Ya, that'll certainly prove Jack wrong about gamers to the general public! WTG!

If that really is you the winner, please make sure to include it in an abay email as well, just for clarification, as I love the idea personally. Being an art major, I still have all my art supplies sitting around begging to be used; I'm going to do some work on Jack's picture on the cover for the dressup part, maybe throw some crappy perfume on it to accentuate it. My uncle will provide the shotgun, and probably the blast (I don't like handling guns personally). The bat and cement parts are easy enough too. I think I know the best body of water to throw it in too - I don't know how deep it is, but the thing is so polluted you'd break out in something if you took a dip in it.

Quick thought in my head - whats the song used in Office Space when they beat the hell out of the copy machine? THats a perfect soundtrack for this imo.

Geto Boys - Die Mother fuckers is the song you're looking for.

Edit: Yea, I wouldn't doubt that the track has a better name like "Still." Just going off of how mine was tagged when I grabbed it.

Looks to be "Still" by The Geto Boys.

Edit: Geno has it right too, Amazon.com calls the track "Still" but it's probably better known as "Die Muthafuckas." Just fyi.

So the theme listed above has been made official. I'm going to give you guys a chance to partake a little more. Since I have to dress up the book like a prostitute, and I'll be editing Jack on the cover for that - if you want to send over some sample ideas to go off of feel free to post them here; if I like it I may just use it. I've got a lot of leftover art supplies from college, and I don't think its too difficult to find a picture of the book cover to photoshop, so have fun with this, should you choose to do it.
