How do PS3 owners actually feel?

I guess if I am going to post, I should answer the OP's question:

I have played friends 360's, and we have one at work here. The game selection is much better, but as a pure peice of hardware, the 360 doesn't give me the satisfaction of the PS3. I am totally a non-fanboy, was a xbox guy last gen. I generally like the 360 internals, but something about the PS3...

I prefer XMB's simplicity and clean lines to the MS-Dash bubble gum look. I love the idea of multiple users. Aesthetically the system is great (in a george foreman sort of way). I like the light, sixaxis controllers. Love the no batteries, no charge kit. I also like how non-ps3 specific hardware works with the system, i.e., generic BT headset, usb webcams, usb mic's, etc.

I really am very happy with the system, even though I am on a 480i crt. I would be happier if more of my friends had one, which is where we come back to $$$. The only reason I got one, is because EB had a promo, where I gave my xbox and 10 games for $360 credit towards a PS3 purchase (in canada), otherwise I would have been waiting for another year or so.

I have owned all 3 systems (currently just the Wii and PS3). If you're looking to ditch a PS3 to get a Wii, I'd strongly advise against it. Its fun to play, certainly, but by no means should it be your only next gen system. You will realize this immediately after you finish Zelda. I can't explain it any better than that. I'm glad I have one, but its just not the same as owning a 360 or a PS3.

As far as how I feel about my PS3, I guess I'm still in the honeymoon phase so I can't give an unbiased opinion. I know that my initial euphoria for the 360 lasted at least 6 months, so I expect to be really into the PS3 for at least that long.

I'm not really liking my PS3. I like how quiet it is and the full bakcwards compatability. However, in my opinion, my 360 is the superior system. I'm only buying exclusives for the PS3.

My thoughts exactly OP.

It definetally is getting bad press for no reason.

I cant believe it when people COMPLAIN about the PS3 they own. Are you an idiot? Did you not look online and see millions of people saying how horrible it is?

People just like to bitch about everything. THE Wii on the other hand is COMPLETELY lame. If you go online all you will see is PRAISE for the Wii, and when you get it gets less playtime than if you owned a PS3.

Why do people judge a console SOLELY and ENTIRELY on price alone?

Does that mean a cheap mac is better than a High end PC?

Oh my god, someone is brave enough to admit it! Anyways, I am going through the Ninja Gaiden Demo and Gran Turismo HD. And now thanks to 1.7, I am also using it to play Dance Dance Revolution. Add Virtua Fighter in to the equation and the PS3 gets quite a bit of play time.

But hey, remember, we don't have Zelda or Mario, our console sucks.

A year from now there will be less bashing, then again who knows with people. But a year from now there should be good games on all 3 systems and the prices may even come down for the consoles themselves.

My problem with the PS3 is that there aren't enough exclusive games that interest me to justify buying it. If I had a lot of money, sure, but I don't.

...what's that? PS3? Oh, y'know...it's alright. I'm working on not getting bent out of shape when people dislike the system. I do feel that Sony is unfairly maligned in the eyes of gamers, who buy into this phony reality where companies as a whole are labeled as "good" or "bad" in the market (and that one of the good, ironically, is Microsoft). I think there are good and bad aspects to each system, and we'll see where the systems are in 12-20 months' time.

One aspect I find interesting is that many people make contrary arguments: (1) that game development costs are so astronomical this time around that developers almost have their hands forced to make games for all three platforms, and (2) the PS3 is such an unpopular system that nobody's going to develop for them the way they did in the past. While either of those arguments can be true, I don't think they can both be true at the same time.

I don't think the PS3 can die. the OP mentions Japanese sales from last week; in those 7 days, there were 2,300 360 units sold in Japan. PS3 was the "#2" system of this gen within weeks of release over the 360. Japanese developers making games to sell in Japan won't go to the 360 for shit. We can all mostly agree that the DS is bigger competition to the PS3 in Japan than the 360 (see: Dragon Quest IX, probably Blue Dragon 2 as well).

Truth be told, gamers have become an echo chamber of anti-Sony sentiment for a while now. It's not going anywhere, but so what? I remember 6 years ago when this whole nation believed Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi government believed they were co-conspirators in 9/11 attacks. The majority of the people have been against the war since 2004, however. The anti-Sony thing may hang around, and it may not. That's the point I'm trying to make.

The worst thing for Sony, at this point, is that Nintendo has proven, with the DS, that they are not simply selling novelty hardware to people who are part of a faddish group. Fads boom quickly and die even quicker. This is a massive trend and phenomenon. Nintendo has momentum on their side something ferocious. The 360 is a concern in the US, sure, but it ain't shit in Japan - besides, between American and Japanese developers, which are more likely to put out games for strictly one system, and which are multiplatform whores? INO, the 360 doesn't matter that much.

Will the PS3 win? Oh, I dunno. Can it win? Sure; so can the Jaguar, I suppose. Should it win? What do I care?

I've got a Wii and a PS3. The PS3 has logged probably 5 times as much play time as the Wii. A game like Oblivion really sucks you in.

Sure there's Oblivion on the PC and the 360 but on the PC it's too demanding requiring shitloads of tweaking to get all the graphical effects out of it (and who the hell has the time for all those registry tweaks?)

and on the 360... well, let's just say I had a 360 and I didn't want to have it on for hours on end. Too damned noisy. I guess I'm getting old but I want my toys to be silent unless I tell them to make noise.

The PS3 is just a beautiful piece electronics. It just seems to be very well designed. I'm not sure what all the hate's about other than the cost. $600 is steep (and I wouldn't have bought one for that much). If it had been $400 people would be absolutely *drooling* over it. The 360 wouldn't get a second look.

I get sicker everyday from these threads.

I owned a Wii and a still own a 360. While I owned my Wii, I never played it. The only use it ever got was Zelda(until it was over), and the first few parties after it was released.

I have no regret in selling it. And I'm waiting until one of the three games I bought it for is released, SSBB, to buy another.

The ps2 outsells the Wii in the US. I know that it as supply constraints, but the fact is the ps2 is still selling like crazy.

Sony has future proofed their system. The cost of the blu ray player is going to plummet for the next five years.

Sure the Wii looks better than the last generation nintendo system. But as more and more games like MGS4, GTA4, Assassins Creed, and Resident Evil 5 pass by the Wii's abilities, you'll have to look elsewhere to get truly immersive experiences.

Exactly why I haven't gotten one yet. There's maybe 2 games I want on it and I'm not paying the overpriced VC prices for older games.

As far as PS3 goes, for the most part I'm enjoying mine. I use it a lot and don't regret buying it.

Pretty good, actually. I just got back from the gym, and I totally pounded about a 8 page philosophy paper this morning.

In other news, I can't wait until my new HDCP enabled samsung 22" monitor comes so I can actually play my Ps3 in high definition... I don't think I could ever get enough of Ninja Gaiden, even after beating both incarnations on the xbox.

As far as the Wii comments go, I have to agree with derder. I currently own all three "next gen" systems and the Wii is BY FAR my least favorite... to the exent that it is being sold and shipped out a week from today, no regrets.

Even though I probably wouldn't own a PS3 right now if it wasn't for the AMEX coupon I'm happy with my PS3. Between the blu-ray playback, a couple PS3 games and alot of PS2 games (I never owned a PS2) I'm getting good use. out of it. Of the three consoles I own (Wii and GC are the other) it's the one I use the most. I find myself splitting my time between my comp and my PS3, rather than mostly my comp as before.

Hmm, I think I might sell my Wii as well.

I am in desperate need of money.

And I dont see getting a use out of my Wii any time soon... maybe ill repurchase it in a year or so, when brawl comes out.

i bought a wii back in december and i must admit, it was fun for the first month or two (i bought it mainly cuz the girlfriend hyped it up so much and how fun it would be to play together) and the main gameplay for the first month was zelda. I never had a gamecube, so i beat paper mario and tales of symphonia, but besides that, i don't see myself ever playing the wii unless someone comes over. its purely a partymachine to me.

the ps3 on the otherhand, since i never had a ps2, is getting tons of gameplay. i beat god of war, and the only other game i've touched is final fantasy xii (currently on hour 70 or something equally bizarre hour). i probably wouldn't be so satisfied with my purchase if i had a ps2 last gen, but since i didn't, i get some catching up time. on top of buying the 60gb ps3 for 450 dollars, which made it much more reasonable, and ou can say i'm a very satisfied ps3 owner

fogrim: I agree. I never had a ps2 either. My son and wife play katamari, and ATV offroad fury (borrowed). It is nice to already have a library of 'family' games, as hardcore systems don't tend to have a lot of these types of games.

Myself, I just finished R:FoM, and I happy as heck now. _IMHO_ Resistance is atleast equal to Halo (1/2) for single player. Now that I am done Resistance, we'll see how long I stay happy... I may have to dip into the PS2 pot with God of War.

god of war was amazing, for myself...i'm waiting on god of war 2 whether it drops in price, or i can get a trade on goozex.

I honestly feel lonely. I have zero friends on my friendslist because most of my friends refuse to get a ps3.

I own no games but I rent frequently from gamefly.

I'm being patient though. I will be buying games like littlebigplanet and MGS.
god of war was amazing, for myself...i'm waiting on god of war 2 whether it drops in price, or i can get a trade on goozex.
Same here, but i can't wait any longer... i'm gonna cave in for $35 on BUY.com (after NGC), GoW2.

I'm content, I can't wait for the PS3 and 360 to shine while the Wii realizes it hit it's potential graphics wise with Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube.

The only Wii game I enjoy is Wii Sports, if it wasn't for it being modded and backwards compatible I wouldn't touch it at all.

Bought my PS3 at launch, only own Resistance. Bought my Wii at launch, own 6 games and 15 Virtual Console games. My XBOX360 has only seen enjoyment out of Call of Duty 2 and Gears of War.

However, I like all my systems and am glad they are part of my entertainment. The PS3 will come around eventually. Sony has a great track record of releasing quality software. It'll happen it just takes time.
Or do you feel that eventually, the PS3 will rise above the Wii and x360, and you just keep it inside playing your Sony PSP,PS2 and PS3 games for the sake of not getitng into useless arguments?
Exactly. beacuase everyone knows us Sony PS3 owners/suppoters are a very very small minority around here on the cheapassgamer forums so i dont bother anymore.

I just got one this week-- wasn't really an impulse buy. I had been playing my 360 to death, a relatively newer BenQ model Premium. I was all about ready to nut when I heard that the Elite was coming out. You know, the one we all thought was going to be 65nm chips, whisper quiet fans, instant arctic air teleport cooling...

Then the Elite was released and unboxed, and basically made me damn glad I was one of the lucky few to get a BenQ Premium. Looking at the features--I just didn't want to upgrade anymore, I'm sticking with my protection plan and just letting it ride. The 360 is a great platform for games, the hardware is meh.. but at least its already within my sphere of influence (HD Movie Downloads Be Damned!) and I can enjoy the great games that are coming out this year.

So to the PS3, I had a Wii that I barely played (In fact, I spent about 25 hours on it total, most of them during Christmas with inebriated friends and family--With a Zelda Game I barely got into 12 hours before I remembered that I hate 3D Zeldas), and a slimline ps2 that was also not getting much use due to the problematic 480i display on my LCD. The only reason I was even thinking of keeping my Wii was to play Resident Evil 4, again, for the 3rd time, on a 3rd console.

So, I went to my neighborhood friendly Gamestop with a Wii, a Ps2 with a controller and a memory card, and 3 Xbox 360 games (Lost Planet, Superman Returns, and Big Bumpin'). Thankfully I got one of the guys I'm on good terms with and he gave me the 100 credit for the ps2, another 180 for the Wii, and another 55 with the games. I wrote 'em a check for the remainder and walked out with a 60gig and a copy of Resistance.

I feel great. The PS3 was a breeze to set up--Just plugged in my USB keyboard and typed in the information. It detected my wireless connection from the get go, and there are no weird HDMI handshaking issues. The whole of the interface is so quick and responsive--No sluggish guide button Dashboard pop-in, No oversensitive pointer I have to fight with. Just cool lines, a fresh look, and no cluttered space. Minimalist, Tight....Sleek. Resistance is so amazingly put together, the weapons are awesomely built, the scale and speed of warfare is there-- and Oh my Christ... 40 Man matches with no Lag?!? 4 vs 4 is so rudimentary. Dedicated Hosting..For Free... Hell even the fact that there is a discernible story puts it above Gears---I love it. Well, and to top it off, the NG Sigma Demo---Its flawless. The PS3 gives me all of this without a sound. I haven't even watched a Blu-Ray disc, but in 1080(i or p) over HDMI, I'm sure it will look breathtaking. Hell, I'm even interested in FFXII again now that it looks good on my Widescreen.

All told, I feel like I own the Bently of Video Game Systems. Its just so well put together--And its responsive to boot. Together with my 360, I feel readily prepared for Next-Gen. Great games are coming to both, and now I have the ability to shun the haters and just enjoy the games.

Sorry for the story, but I think we all need some positive press. PS3 is outstanding.

I'm very happy with my purchase so far. Virtua Fighter 5 really stands out. It is the first fighting game that I've actually picked one character and practiced with them to learn their moves. Usually in fighting games I select randomly and mash.

So far my only problem is it doesn't like my wireless router...bleh, guess you can't win them all.

i dont touch my wii or ps3. they just sit nice and pretty on my entertainment set while xbox 360 does all the work!

Im sorry you got 6 Wii games.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Super Paper Mario
Wii Play
Red Steel
Wario Ware

Well Wii Play was just to get another controller, and Wario Ware was given to me. So the only game I regret buying is Red Steel. I have not bought a UBISOFT game in awhile, and here I was thinking they were still the quality publisher of yor that has released Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, etc, and not the publisher exploiting the fact that few other companies did not release piles of crap in a rather slim market. However, those initial three games are amazing, and Wario Ware would have been worth the purchase alone for the crazy drunk grad student nights I have with people playing that game.
Well said. That's why I play PS3 and 360 the most and love both.

My PS3 gets way more use then the Wii, now my 6 year old son and my wife, they use the Wii more then me. I like it, I just don't love the Wii compare to the graphics and gameplay of my PS3, plus I like to browse the internet from my family room with my PS3, its very cool and I have listened to the cagcast from my family room couch. :)

I love my PS3. It's a gem. I have VF5, Resistance, Full Auto 2, and Untold Legends:Dark Kingdom (Man, I hope they make more hacknslash!!)

With the Ps2 games I've yet to finish, plus the deep games for the PS3, I am having a blast. The only thing missing to make it perfect is Heavenly Sword and Tekken 6. :)

I feel GREAT about my PS3 purchase...$450 brand new from craigslist, everything works good, enjoying resistance and getting ready to pickup vf5, f1, and mlb (on the 15th), and finally get to catchup on the PS2 titles I've missed out on...Life is GOOD!!!

Craigslist seems to be paying off in spades for us cheapasses. I took the plunge last night and got a barely played (the console obviously hadn't been touched in the last four months) 60GB with Resistance and NBA07 for $450.

Between the two games I have, and the demos I tried out, I'm feeling pretty good about the decision. :D

The more I use it the more I really like my PS3. I love that its much quieter than my 360. I can hear my games without blasting my tv, lol. I am starting to come around to blu ray after watching casino royale the other night and the web browser isn't to bad. The only thing I don't like about some of the games on the system is that voice chat isn't enabled in all online games.

My PS3 gets way more use then my 360 and Wii. Today was actually the first day I touch my Wii in weeks and that was to play Mario Bros 3. With Mario Galaxy coming out that will change of course. I have played my 360 only for Guitar Hero 3. All of my other gaming generally comes from the PS3. Gamefly has shipped out Call of Duty 4 to me today. :)

I love my PS3. Wish I had more time and a good TV to really get the most out of it though. Fell in lust with some of the 32" screens at BB and I might bite in the new year. Because you care.

I am very pleased with the ps3 the features are amazing and i like the psn games. I play my ps3 most then 360 close and wii distant last.
Nintendo bought Monolith, and along with it the chances of the Xenosaga franchise [a uniquely Playstation style RPG] also appearing on the Wii.
You had me worried there for a second. I had to wiki it. You are talking about Monolith Soft, not Monolith (Condemned, F.E.A.R.). I thought, what the hell would Nintendo want with franchises like those.

I feel so-so about that triple so far. I think the menus and PSN are cluttered/disorganized feeling and I really hate the basic lack of online or weakened online functionality. I'm optimistic though. I'm looking forward to some games in 08 like Little Big Planet and MGS4. The thing I'm most looking forward to however is the strengthened online functionality in Home. If Sony does it right they have a chance to make a fantastic online experience. Xbox Live is awesome but something tells me there will be a great draw to have my own online house, complete with trophies, artwork, posters, and a screening room.

I'm pretty crummy this morning, since I only slept for 4 hours last night.

Oh, you meant about the PS3? Let's talk after Uncharted demo comes out later today.

I'm a bit under the weather today, which is a drag as I'm supposed to go to Japan for the weekend.

As for my PS3? I'll be picking up a *DUAL SHOCK 3* on Sunday....so I feel GREAT.
