I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). I agree on the second part.... if they deny you, they deny you, no use fighting, BUT the signage does say ALL ANIME. I check both the front doors and the dvd section to see if the signs have been updated to say dvd only, and every time they have not. This is bordering false advertising since ALL ANIME with no listed restrictions means ALL ANIME. Regardless of an e-mail sent to managment, and regardless of the locations of the little signs you can not say ALL of anything with no listed restrictions and expect people not to get pissed about it.

Either way, I found Samurai 7 blu for $45 somewhere else (fleabay) and all i really want now is Ghost in the Shell 2 blu now....but i am in NO hurry to get it, if i can grab i 50% off, then great. if not, oh well!

(ps.... anyone wanna grab me a ghost 2 blu?!)

Ghost in the Shell 2 Blu doesn't include the CD soundtracks ,right?

No, just the movie. It's a pretty bare bones US release, I was going to buy the absolute edition on blu but I got mine for 15 at BB. It doesn't have any high def audio either. There are two japanese versions one has PCM and the the absolute with True HD audio.

Give DBZ season 3 a shot. It had Goku vs. Freiza, which was about as intense as any fight I've seen in the series. Plus, you really can't argue with the price.:lol::lol::lol:
 
Honestly couldn't say. Should be available via kiosk if not. I wouldn't expect to many stores to have it since its not a shonen series.

hey did u read my post i had same thing but after fighting about the sign they gave it to me on all the blurays try diff location i just went back to the store and they took signs down. also if you check bestbuy.com and go to anime section it says now at top of page 50% off all anime dvds at select bestbuys

I wish I'd known about this before I opened my $55 copy of Samurai7 on bluray from amazon haha. Oh well just a few bucks more I guess. Who has some recommendations on other anime series or movies to get? I walked around a best buy today for the longest time deciding on whether or not I should buy on impulse again lol. Was thinking about Air Gear, some originally priced $10 single episode ova called Rescue Me, Zaion, Robotech protoculture collection, and also Gunbuster vs Diebuster on bluray.

If anybody can find an extra copy of Akira on bluray, does anybody mind picking a copy up for me? :D

I think that you should have read at least my post closer. I went to the BB in Long Beach CA the first day of the sale and took Afro Samurai season 1 and Vexille bluray to the cashier and the Afro Samurai season 1 bluray rang up in the system at 50% off but the vexille did not. The cashier was the one who told me that they would sell me the vexille at 50% after I had said that I did not want it if it's not on sale. The manager did an override without hesitation. Also my friend bought 3 regular anime DVD's right after me and one of them didn't ring up at 50% off either.

So I didn't "talk" my way into getting 50% off. My ultimate problem is with the signage in the stores that are having the sale. An e-mail does change the fact that there is no posted signage with exclusions on the bluray or in my case really poor customer service at the Chino Hills CA store.
 
Picked up Case Closed Season 3, Tsubasa 1st Season and School Rumble 1st Season. Decent haul considering the stores having clearances around me are pretty picked clean. Had to go to the store out in the boonies for my stuff.

I can't recommend Air Gear. I enjoyed watching it, yes, but the ending, or lack-thereof really disappointed me. The only thing that keeps making me want to shell out $25 for it are the ecchi scenes. Well, maybe I can recommend it, but with a warning that it was basically cut off after the first season, so if you want any closure with it you'll have to start reading the manga. Ironically this is the same problem with another anime adapted from the same artist, Oh! Great's "Tenjho Tenge". Of the two, Air Gear's definitely better, especially in terms of pacing and in not being toned as far down.

Has *anyone* seen either Nanoha sets at a Best Buy? I didn't see them at either of mine.

IS GITS really worth it?
( I look up reviews, but I don't trust them completely, lol)


What's the difference between GITS -Stand Alone Complex and the re-release. The anime legend version is 15 minutes shorter.
I bought the 3 disk Kino's journey, but according to Anime Network, there's also a 4 - disk set. Does that mean the re-release has no extra features, or the episodes we're squeezed together?

Anyone know why the new Berserk set is listed as releasing the 17th on BB's site, but everywhere else on the net says the 10th and is shipping now? I was hoping to get it on the cheap but I dunno what is up with their release date and or if Ill be able to get it on clearance

I did get the Gunbuster vs Diebuster Blu-Ray 50% off and Ergo Proxy set for $12.50 (50% off 50%,lol ) so who knows.
 
I'm pretty sure i've seen Nanoha at my local store, but its one thats not part of sale. I'd imagine with a series like that the stores wouldn't get many copies.

Like i said don't be surprised if the store doesn't have it, especially since the stores that are part of the clearance are historically bad with anime sales. THey might have gotten a single copy if that much, best bet would be to check kiosk.
 
I'm going to try to grab a copy of the new Fullmetal Alchemist Season 2 box that came out today. Of course, none of the clearance stores near me got any copies, so I have a few questions about the kiosks -

1. If I make an order to "ship" instead of in store pickup, that means they ship it to my house, right? (probably a stupid question)
2. Can I put in the half price order at a clearance store then pick it up at a non clearance store? All of the non clearance BBs in my area have it in stock.

If you choose instore pick it up from other store (5-20 miles near you). You will get the 50% off price that you order from the kiosh. Yeah, that's what i got yesterday ;)

I actually saw that and Fullmetal Alchemist Season 2 in store yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't a clearance store, so I'm having them shipped to me.

It has to be within 20 miles of the store with the kiosk you're using? I was going to have my brother do in store pickup for a store near me that's 100+ miles away :cry:. I'll have him try later anyway and see if it works.

but why would you want that? You are, time notwithstanding, spending gas money on driving 100 miles, and the shipping option is something like 4 dollars-that itself would probably be cheaper than driving all the way out for it (unless there's some bizarre reason like discontinued series or so)

It IS his brother. It's likely that they're going to visit each other anyway at some point in the future so he could just get it then.

I meant that my brother and I live 100+ miles apart, and I have no stores near me doing the clearance. I want to see if he can go to the kiosk and order something that I can pick up in my city for the clearance price. So far, everything he ordered from the kiosk is getting shipped to me, and he's keeping a bunch for himself that he bought in store. All the kiosk stuff we ordered wasn't available for pickup around me, but I decided I wanted Full Metal Panic, which isn't in store around him, but is in store around me. If the in store pickup doesn't work, I'll just get it shipped.

I see-I just thought that was rather puzzling to drive 100 miles for a 4 dollar saving-thanks for the explanation

I believed you can do instore pick it up 100+ miles away from you. When you brother he do instore kiosh order & choose instore pick it up (punch in your zipcode) and make sure have your address & your name account because instore pick it up require ID and make sure the order is YOU not anyone else. Didn't hurt to try ;)

If I had a car, I would have driven 90 miles to that store hiamiyumi mentioned that had five copies of 5 Centimeters Per Second, but I would have probably picked up much much more and gone on a massive run for other clearance games and the like and made a day trip out of it. Unfortunately, I live in NYC where there's no clearance and it's too expensive for me to maintain a car.

Is it really between 5-20 miles? I was going to head up to the Best Buy that's about twenty minutes drive for me that's doing the clearance to pick Full Metal Alchemist Season 2 up.

I looked to see if they had it in their inventory, the store with the 50% off did not, but the Best Buy in my city has it. According to the driving directions, the distance between the stores is 19.30 miles.

Do you have to get an employee at Best Buy to order it for in-store pickup at another location? I've never messed with the kiosk, never actually seen them at either location, so I'm wondering how difficult this will be. Looks like I'll be making a round trip tonight and finishing off my Full Metal Alchemist collection. :D
 
ok i've been wondering this and can't find an answer...but has anyone tried/had success buying some anime at ANOTHER BB that's NOT participating in the clearance and then return & rebuy them at one that is for the 50% off?

I did that but the store said they will make a once time exception and will not do it again.
 
before i go a second time I wanna get some good anime suggestions so i can order it from their computers. ordered box set 1-12 for naruto for about 200. wasnt a bad deal. Premiere Silver gets free shipping =D. thanks in advance.
btw i already have the afro samurai stuff, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Basilisk, Death Note box 1, Complete Full Metal Alchemist, the 3 sets of Shin Chan that is out so far, Devil May Cry all 3 vol., and the whole Ranma 1/2 series. any other anime besides those. (sorrie if i spelled some of the anime names wrong =X)

Well, i tried getting them to price match, but it failed.

I bought around 10-13 boxsets from a BB that wasn't doing the sale then went to the BB that was and just asked for a price match. I had no problem doing it and I think it helped that I had so many because I said if they couldn't price match I would just like to return them. I'm actually going to be doing it again tomorrow to get Elfen Lied and some others I know the BB with the sale doesn't have.
