I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). I went back today to finally bite on Gurren Lagann, only to find out that 2/3 of them had floating disks in them. Somehow they restocked a big pile of Afro Samurai season 1 :br: so I got to pick that up, but now I remember that I originally went to look for Twelve Kingdoms :bomb:

Can anyone check out the 12 Kingdoms collections on the kiosk? I'm curious if they show up/what price they're at.
 
I was wondering if going to a store and ordering through the kiosk would be worth it? I'm pretty far away from the nearest best buy and I would hate to drive all the way out there for nothing. I'm looking to pick up The girl Who Leapt Through time and Akira on Blu-Ray.
 
For that much? I'd say yeah, but only if you like that type of anime. I thought it was pretty good, but I'm not sure if I would watch it again.

I was looking for collection 2 and it came up for $40 which is only like $10 off. It's on sale but not part of this sale, same for collection 1. I had a list of 13 or so animes and none were 1/2 through the kiosk sadly.

Thanks. There were 2 types of sets though, budget and regular, right? I'd check on the website but bb.com seems to be down right now.
 
Love hina is good as long as you don't watch it in english. The dub is a fucking joke. And keep in mind this is from someone who generally likes most dubs. And yes, the manga is better, much better than the anime.

Is that even a question? Lol. Without a doubt is it worth $22.50. Even for 13 episodes, the series is incredibly good. I'd buy it for it's full price. I actually just bought the collection this sale, and am on the last episode and have to say I loved what I saw in the series, I wish they would make a sequel series so I could see all of the characters again. Just a lovable series and for $22.50 it is without a doubt worth every penny.

Haruhi is generally considered one of the best anime series going. It is absolutely worth $22.50. There is always the chance it doesn't click with you, of course, but as a general rule, most people find it outstanding. Personally, amongst the >$300 I've spent on anime during this sale that I am thinking abou returning because I spent way too much, Haruhi is one of the very few series that is "off hands" with concern to what is potentially going to get returned.

I made a special trip to Best Buy just to get it and I'm having no regrets. The show looks great on my HDTV. And if you're worried about not liking it, know that the DVDs are individually shrink-wrapped, so if you watch the first one and know for a fact that you don't like the series, you can sell the other 3 DVDs as "new" and only sell the first as "used".;););)

Since August I've watched this two times, and I bought the complete series on this sale. I absolutely love it, but I think that Haruhi is the type of character you either really love or really hate.

Wait, are you saying Mikuru-chan is your avatar and you haven't even finished the whole series? Anyway, there will be a second season of it sometime in the future, but I don't think they made any official announcements about how soon it's coming. Hopefully it's soon!

I've seen bits and pieces of the show up until I actually watched it, I knew I liked Mikuru right when I saw her. She's the best! And yeah well, I only have one episode left. But I absolutely love the show. I agree too, it is a love it or hate it kind of show. I'm glad I loved it. And on what you said about Haruhi being either a love or hate kind of person, I found myself always wishing I knew somebody in my life that had her personality. Something about it is just so great to me.
 
I started to watch FMA season 1, for 24.99, it is worth. I just finished the first disk, and the Nina part made me sad :/

I already ordered Love Hina and Shina. So, Love Hina is not worth the 18 bucks for the whole series? I was going to try and get it price-adjusted later with the coupon.

Yeah, I think it's "budget" which is the $40 one and is like a clam shell with 5 dvds stacked over one another (which I have for collection 1). Then the "premiere" which is way to much money.

Really, I agree with this guy... but it really depends on what type of anime you like. If you're a mech-head, then you may look into Vandread... as it is the space version of Love Hina with big ships, and similar antics.

I enjoyed love hina, myself... so imo, it's well worth that 18$

I also liked Gantz, but there is a big love-hate relationship with that show... as is progressively gets more flaunty with nudity/sexual themes (not sure if the english version removed all of that). It does have both seasons, so you shouldnt be left "wanting" knowing that there's a second season out there. I'd personally be a little hesitant to throw 40 at it, considering Samurai 7 blu-ray was only 35.99, and i've already seriously overspent... If youre a huge fan of ultraviolence/gore anime, then you may want to check it out (along with claymore).

Has anyone's store gotten a restock of anime? I spoke to someone in Media last week and he confirmed for me they are supposed to be getting a huge shipment in, but didn't know the date and assumed it would come in during the sale. I tried calling yesterday, but the lady at the said, "Um, we get shipments in every Monday" and refused to connect me with someone in Media. I guess I'll just have to head in sometime this weekend.
 
Picked up The Berserk set that came out yesterday no problem, rang up at 50% off.

On a side note, It seems like there is quite a few people in this thread that are not even really into anime but buying up all these series and artbox sets *gag* like it's some sort of contest to see who can buy the most. If you plan on flipping them, congrats on being a douche. If you are just collecting them to "have" them and never plan on watching them, congrats on being a douche.

This is a great sale for real fans and it's a shame that real fans can't get what they want because people feel the need to buy multiple copies etc, and clean out inventory. /rant
 
I picked up both Death Note live action movies today. The first one rang up automatically at $10, and I was able to get the second one overridden.

According to the website, they should be in the drama section, but when I went to that aisle, they only had one copy of #2. I found 2 copies of #1 and another 1 copy of #2 in the anime section.

I was going to use this sale to finally pick up the Cutie Honey live action lunchbox set for cheap, but it seems that's disappeared locally and wasn't showing 1/2 off at the kiosk.

I don't know if my store restocked or if they just had more stuff in the back but I bought the last DBZ season 8 a week ago and yesterday there were six more there on the shelf.
 
Yeah, I've noticed restocks on Dragonball Z season sets and the movies, and I think for Samurai 7 as well (noticed lots of them popping up).

It's all fair game if you can find it and if you want it, for whatever reason. If anyone really wanted anything they woulda picked it up already anyway.

so wait,If you use this kiosk thing, you could order the anime for 1/2 price even if it's not in stock? because my local store in Trumbull doesn't seem to have much left. Also,if you order using the kiosk, can they ship it to your house or does it have to be shipped to the store?
 
I'd also pass on Love Hina. The show really isn't that good. It has one of the worst dubs of all time for starters.

Secondly it starts off good and then by the second disc it just falls apart as they re-use the exact same routin every episode.

Kitaro does something, accidently peaks on girl X, Naru punches him into orbit. Repeat about 50 times. It wouldn't be so bad but Kitaro is a spinless wimp, Naru is a crazy person who beats him if he even looks at someone wrong. You want them to kill each other more then have a happy ending.
 
Anyone know if the Ghost in the Shell movies rang up at 50% off on the kiosk or can check next time they go? Still need those and I might get those and Beserk and call it quits.

I have to agree with that for the most part. Plus, flipping anime isn't nearly as widespread as it is with video games. Other than trading at FYE I don't know of any place it could benefit people to flip anime anyway.

I don't like flippers on a sale, but that is why I headed out on the first day to get what I wanted. The only way I would even buy multiple copies is if someone here on CAG wanted something (which I have done with Big Lots sales on anime). Even at half off, a lot of this stuff is still expensive.

I hear you I passed on 5 extra copies of 5 Cent at mine. Told my friend to grab one and he said they were all gone that night. This place didnt even have the sign up so It had to be a net shopper.
 
I was able to get Coyote Ragtime Show Complete Series($17.99) and Cowboy Bebop Remix Complete Collection($19.99). I don't really know anything about either series but for less then 20 bucks I figured I try them out. I heard very good things about cowboy bebop though :)

Yeah, I really loved her personality and I found it to be really infectious. She's definitely up there among my favorite characters of all time (I haven't seen too much, though, so take that with a grain of salt).

Also, for anyone watching this show for the first time, I'd recommend watching in the original broadcast order, not the order on the DVDs. It was originally broadcast anachronically. The original order was 0, 1, 2, 7, 3, 9, 8, 10, 14, 4, 13, 12, 5, 6. I haven't actually watched the DVDs of this yet, though, so maybe I'm wrong in thinking the DVD order is different. I just read on wikipedia, haha.

I also liked Gantz, but there is a big love-hate relationship with that show... as is progressively gets more flaunty with nudity/sexual themes (not sure if the english version removed all of that). The problem with Gantz is that they just end it while the manga continues. ( I had the same problem with ouran). The manga gets a lot better

The second season of the Gantz anime is an anime only story. Kurono's teacher is hot btw. :D

still hoping somebody can find a copy of akira on bluray for me ;)

I knew only one person like that my whole life. I was living in San Francisco at the time, and she was working as a cashier/accountant at a cafe. It turned out to be this great friends-with-benefits 'relationship' for 4 months. My problem was that I got too caught up with the *benefits* part and not so much with the *friends* part. If I had to do it all over again, I would've respected her more. It was a nice ego-boost though, as she was an 8 out of 10, and 9 years younger than me (I was 29-30 at the time).

I'm an admitted flipper, but I don't see where making money is any different from saving money, especially on a site like CAG. Moreover, much of the profit I make usually ends up funding anime purchases that I couldn't find at this sale.

Cowboy Bebop is one of my all time favorites and a steal at $19.99.

Not that this directed to you, because your a great guy!

I think, in my opinion, people have problems with flippers because your basically selling something that other CAGs can enjoy. When I go to a store in hopes of finding a show or game, and they have been obviously been "Hoarded", I think it's not fair. Some people say, whoever get's their first, get's priority, but shouldn't helping a community member be worth more then a quick buck? That's IMO.

Is there a Welcome To NHK Collection? I really dis-like Season 1 Part 1 +2 box sets :/ I like the whole idea of TV being corrupt, but I hope it isn't loaded with Nudity.
