I'm bored, let's talk fighters.
Primal Rage?

That was an arcade game as well.

on another note, why has SEGA not brought Eternal Champions out of the vault? The least they could do is port the SEGA CD version to the DS or PSP with some upgraded graphics
Yeah, Primal Rage, that was it.

And if they put out Eternal Champions on the PSP that would be fucking awesome. I would definatley buy it as long as they didnt screw up the port of it. (Hopefully they would also add some extra stuff)

Why don't we gather a list of websites that would allow those interested in developing their skills in certain fighting games?

For soul calibur, I often visit the forums on different websites and view tournament videos in order to observe certain patterns/techniques.

http://www.soulcalibur.com/
http://sc.relaxism.com/ (great site for videos, the nighty (dan) vs. mitsu (lee) fight A++)

For me personally, does anyone have a really kick ass SF III site that could help? That and an snk vs. capcom EO (xbox) site?

^^^ Can't really help you with that. Good idea though.

Cappy I know what you said, but you never mentioned is it sucked or not using 4 buttons ;) .

I dare anyone to challenge me in MvC2 on DC

Also, if anyone has any fighting game soundtracks (especially Guilty Gear) pm me :)

EDIT: Is it just me or are almost all fight videos boring? Nothing happens. They basically use the same moves about 100 times plus a little blocking and thats your fight.
I miss the days when fighting games were the shiznit. I mastered Street Fighter II and won a few local tournaments. I am also good at the Tekken series, everything Street Fighter, VS series, Darkstalkers, and SNK fighters. I try to get into Guilty Gear (I have X2 and Isuka) but I have a hard time with it for some reasons. i recently purchased SVC Chaos and I am very dissapointed by it (great cast of characters, plays like Fighting Street with its balance).
OI! avatar thief!

lol, yeah, there's a lot more to DoA then meets the eye. not as much as tekken or soul calibur, since building skill in it is more like honing an instinct than memorizing, but there's definitely a lot to learn for those who are into it. but I really can't wait for DoA 4-- team ninja is saying it'll be more complex for hardcore players.

but enough about 3-D(er...2.5-D) check this out:

These are from a japanese game called Melty Blood ReAct for the PC...I just came across it yesterday and I've played it for a few minutes. Feels a bit like Guilty Gear, only smoother. Definitely a lot of fun and pretty stylish.

Try out the demo! It doesn't have too high of requirements-- came out in 2002.

scroll down-- there's 2 demos-- one is for the ReAct version, the other is for plain old Melty Blood.
heh, that video is quite inspiring. and yes, SF3 is pretty hard against the computer. much love for Gill's regeneration

ahhh yes gill one of the hardest bosses of all time , pyron from darkstalkers 1 on the ps1 comes pretty close. Theres that move that gill does me and my friends call it "taste the rainbow" damn what a bitch.

Haha you know what's funny? All those characters are from an anime called Tsukihime. Kinda funny seeing them in a fighter - considering the whole anime was 13 episodes of dialogue and drama.

that last link has a demo for now-- you could also import it, but it seems to be nowhere.... or you could PM me and i'll see what I can do ;-)

yeah, in fact, I think the Tsukihime game inspired the anime, iirc. The same people who worked on the melty blood english menu patch are also working on a full Tsukihime game translation.

In MvsC2, what's your team/teams?
In MvsC2, what's your team/teams?
Ah, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure. It depends on who I feel like playing as. My team will always include Akuma, I can tell you that. I like Sakura a lot right now so she might be in there too. I can tell you some people I like to use: Shuma Gorath, Hulk, Spiderman, Venom, Blackheart, Iceman, Iron Man, Ryu, Ken, BB Hood, the list goes on. I don't really have a set team.

Oh and that Melty Blood game kicks major ass

Meltyblood.jpg

OMG teh Fatality in Melty Blood!

okay, no. it's just a jumping punch in the stage with the bloody background ;-)

Anyone else besides VGM grab this game? Do so and jesus will love you. even more.

Is it just on the PC? I don't do PC games often. Especially fighters. And I don't have a controller. That would make learning it painful. Is it on any consoles? I did dl the demo when it was first mentioned. Seems interesting.

it is just on the pc, though there's a petition for a DC version in japan. I've been using a dual shock for it-- they sell PS2>USB converters at Radioshack! I thought that was pretty cool.

anyway, I also rarely play PC games, but this one is too nice-- it's usually flowing at 60 FPS, colorful characters and backgrounds, interesting characters and a good soundtrack. The fighting feels a bit like a cross between M vs. C 2 and Guilty Gear, though not as complex as either- lots of juggles and air combos, simple, cancel-able super moves and a parry button. It's a great pick up and play type of game.

Has anyone heard if Guilty Gear Isuka will eventaully come to Xbox? I know it is $19.99 for the PS2 version on EB.com right now but if it comes to Xbox I'll wait.
EDIT: Is it just me or are almost all fight videos boring? Nothing happens. They basically use the same moves about 100 times plus a little blocking and thats your fight.
You sir, are an idiot. If you think you KNOW fighting games, you don't. Tournament winners use and abuse tactics that they know will win them their matches. If you've ever played any GOOD players in any fighting game, you wouldn't be asking if the fight videos are boring. It's not what they do during their match that you're looking at, it's what they don't do. And it looks like you're touting to be the greatest MvC2 player on DC. Go find yourself some Justin Wong or Combofiend videos and then think to yourself how much better of a player you are compared to them.

The only way you'll become a much better player in any fighting game is if you have someone to play with. The case is almost always something like this:
You're naturally good in one game. You use tactcs that can beat out your friend.
Your friend practices and experiment ways to counter your attacks/defenses.
After your friend adapts to your fighting style, he/she will start to become better than you.
Feeling the need to best your friend, you play/use different strategies to counter his.
And the cycle goes on and on.

Fighting games can get boring after a while if you have no one to compete with ... I used to play with someone at my work with some of the older PS1 fighting games like Tekken 3 & Darkstalkers 3, but once he hits his ceiling he can't really adapt to beat me more than 1 out of every 20 times or so.
More people should buy SF:AC for Xbox... I'm on live a lot and there aren't many people online..(
I have the game, both on PS2 and Xbox. Wanna play right now?

all i can say is this: with good competition, you will always want to be better at fighting games. No ther genre has this as much appeal (and I say FPS do not come close to the amount of challenge or as much "wanting to be better").

I agree!

Say, while we have a fighting game thread going, we might as well get a Gamertag list. I haven't been on as much lately, but I'm all about fighting games on-line.

my GT: sonic docta

games and who I use:
--DoA:ultimate-- kasumi, hitomi..used to play a lot of tag team, but I've since switched to singles.

--Guilty Gear X2# Reload-- Jam, all the time.

--Street Fighter Anniversery-- mainly Ibuki and Makoto, but I've been trying out Chun-Li lately. and I occasionally revert to the shoto characters.

Haha calm down there buddy. I realize they use cheap tactics to win fights, I just said that the videos are boring to watch because they use the same moves over and over. And I believe you too my "I challenge anyone to MvC2 on the DC" statement a little too seriously. ;)

No need to be so harsh about this stuff.

I get annoyed by those who talk like they know what they're doing but they actually don't. That's all.

I want Jojo's bizzarre adventure for DC but I can't find it. I dont want to have to resort to ebay.

Socheata you up for a game? I've got CvS2 and GGX2 if you have either of those.

i'll second that. some people take fighting games way too seriously. god forbid you say you challenge anyone if you aren't the dude who parried that whole super in SF3.

I have seen competition level play, I know what it is, what it consists of, it's boring as hell and has nothing to do with having fun

Every hobby has a certain degree of obsession/seriousness. One person may think you're a dumbass for doing the things you do while others think your cool because they understand/have the same feeling as you do.

And did you just say that competition-level play has nothing to do with fun?! Is the NBA not fun because it's a competitive sport? How about horse racing? Just because you're not in on the action doesn't mean it's not actually fun.

And VGM, I have GGXX and haven't played that in awhile. The lag makes the game intolerable at times.

I can't say that playing matches and shit isn't fun, I wouldn't really know. I think most people do it for the cake though, that's what I'd do.

the reason I say that is cause it seems that competitive fighting game fans(and especially the people who wanna be competitive) have the shortest fuses. On pretty much any fighting game board, if you say something like "I think I am good at this game," you get like 20 people flaming you and telling you to challenge this dude, asking how many tournaments you've won, asking you if you know this obscure strategy etc.
a lot of guys even say if you are only playing for fun and not to be competitive, then it's pointless to play fighting games.
I'm sure fun equates into it for these people, but more times than not, at arcades and stuff, folks are just as serious as they are on message boards about it. it's just annoying when people try to throw their weight around like they are the shit.
over a fighting game.

that's what I mean by "too seriously." It's my own personal line. but I am all about learning some strategies and having nice long sets of matches with people...

It is fun watching some tournaments and vids, unless it's one of those stalemate matches...or if somebody decides to lose their shit and really try to kick the shit out of the guy(actually, that's funny to watch too)

just calling it like i've been seeing it for years.

Every competitive event/match/game are bound to have to have the know-it-alls. If you say you're good at something, someone out there will try to prove you wrong. So they'll ask if you have any recognition that is worthy enough to back up your skills.
And I've heard the "if you're not playing competitively, then it's pointless to play fighting games" rant a lot. Of course, every videogame doesn't need to be competitive to be fun. So whoever's spewing that comment out is quite ignorant of the fact that there are casual players.

However, I do know where you're coming from. My younger brother loves Marvel vs Capcom 2. So whenever I have videos of MvC2 players performing things he can't do, he gets excited. But if I was to make him watch a great video of players duking it out on Capcom vs SNk 2 or Virtua Fighter 4, he becomes bored. Only because he doesn't fully understand what's going on. Of course, I'm not saying you don't fully understand, because everyone has a different take when watching/playing something. To each his own.

I'm goig to Japan on the 30th. Gonna try to go to the location tests for Guilty Gear XX #Reloded Slash. (What a stupid name.) I wish I could see Neo Geo BC while I'm their.

another update? Wow. guess they are going the way of street fighter

anyone know of a place to get Guilty Gear Isuka under $19.99?

so... jsut to start off a little more discussion:
What system had the best fighting game collection?
What portable system had the best fighting game collection?
What system had the best controller (no 3rd party ones) for fighters?
What fighting game had the best control layout?
What would you like to see in future 2D Fighters?
What would you like to see in future 3D Fighters?
What Next-Gen system do you think will have the most/best fighters?
(feel free to add more questions)

-------------

answering my own questions:

What system had the best fighting game collection? Either the Neo Geo or the Dreamcast... but in terms of only 3D fighters, PS2 takes the cake.
What portable system had the best fighting game collection? ... kinda a given... Neo Geo Pocket Color
What system had the best controller (no 3rd party ones) for fighters? Alot of old school games seemed to work great with the Genesis contoller, but I have to say I like the PS2 contoller alot
What fighting game had the best control layout? Tekken... it's the most simple and logical layout I have ever seen in a fighting game... Left is left and right is right.
What would you like to see in future 2D Fighters? I think 2D fighters are doing great now... but what sems to be a trend is the reusing of old sprites... sprites need to be more detailed and look alot better.
What would you like to see in future 3D Fighters? More enviornmental interaction
What Next-Gen system do you think will have the most/best fighters? PS3... partially due to Tekken 6 already announced.

Dreamcast, then PS2 (if only for VF4)
No opinion
PS2
VF series (not 3)
Higher resolution artwork
True full 3D movement
That all depends on how the controllers feel

1. DC no doubt
2. I'd say NGPC even though I've never played one. Maybe PSP will change that.
3. Dreamcast, then a tie between PSOne/2 and Xbox
4. This one made me think. I like the Guilty Gear X2 layout a lot, and MvC 2 on DC.
5. More characters. Sprites don't bother me that much. Maybe an English VA option too.
6. Something new. DOA is always the same old same old. So is Tekken. Soul Calibur 2 was great, hopefully 3 will be.
7. Can't say. I don't like 3D fighters that much but I'd give that to PS3. I have no idea about 2D ones.

My own Q and my Answer:
What's the best/your favorite vs series game?

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is my favorite. I believe the best would be either CvS2 or X-Men vs. Street Fighter (I haven't gotten to play my saturn version yet. Damn region protection).

What system had the best fighting game collection?
Definitely Dreamcast. Let's see... Marvel vs Capcom 1/2, Capcom vs SNK, Last Blade 2, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, Street Fighter III: Double Impact and Third Strike, Soul Calibur and a few others I'm forgetting.
What portable system had the best fighting game collection?
Neo Geo Pocket Color.
What system had the best controller (no 3rd party ones) for fighters?
Sega Saturn's Model 2 Controller.
What fighting game had the best control layout?
The Tekken series.
What would you like to see in future 2D Fighters?
A balanced defense system a la SFIII's Parrying system.
What would you like to see in future 3D Fighters?
A deep training mode and AI that plays like real players. For example, playing Soul Calibur II on the higher difficulties, the CPU tends to GI every attack you throw out. The only way to counter is if you GI it, and you'll be doing that back and forth numerous times. Which isn't realistic in a competitive match.
What Next-Gen system do you think will have the most/best fighters?
PS3
