I'm bored, let's talk fighters.

What system had the best fighting game collection? Dreamcast and Xbox. Dreamcast has some great exclusives (Project Justice, Last Blade 2). Xbox has some great games and most have online capabilities.

What portable system had the best fighting game collection? Gameboy Advance. The Street Fighter Alpha 3 conversion has more characters than the major consoel verisons. The animation is great and the control is there. I think the PSP could overtake it soon though. Super Street Fighter II Turbo is awesome as well.

What system had the best controller (no 3rd party ones) for fighters? PS2. It is just more precise IMO.

What fighting game had the best control layout? Marvel vs. Capcom 2. They have a four-button system and made the supers relatively smooth to pull off.

What would you like to see in future 2D Fighters? More online games. Graphics engines similar to the Guilty Gear games. Four button control schemes.

What would you like to see in future 3D Fighters? More cel-shaded fighters. Wider use of long-range attacks like fireballs (Project Justice still does this best IMO).

What Next-Gen system do you think will have the most/best fighters? Xbox 360. The already have the Live service in full effect and seem to embrace the online fighting genre.

(feel free to add more questions)

1. Dreamcast has the best collection, but I prefer playing on the xbox, cause I have xbox live.

2. dunno, not enough experience with handheld fighters.

3. I've become extremely comfortable with the xbox-S controller layout. The D-pad is smooth and the option of using triggers or the black and white buttons for Heavy attacks is pretty convenient for me. I've had problems with every other controller I've used.

4. I still like the classic street fighter 6 button layout.

5. A new franchise from Capcom built from an improved version of the SF 3 engine and Guilty Gear X3. I just hope they don't stop making 2-d fighters, though Snk and Capcom both need to stop milking their franchises unless it's quality stuff.

6. Tekken is pretty honed, but DoA could use some upgrades that will add more strategy to the game, but not lose that DoA feel. I have a feeling that'll happen with 4. other than that, i just hope for new Dead or alive and Tekken games. Perhaps a DoA Vs. Tekken game ;-)

7. I dunno. Could go either way. I'll own PS3 and a 360, so I don't care.

New question: What system do you prefer playing fighters on?
2 things. 1) I've heard you can't play imports with it and use it as a 4MB cart at the same time. 2) Do you have $25 to give me?
1) Works as all four items at once (4MB RAM Cart, Game Shark, Memory card, and Region unlock) 2) All I have to you give you is a hearty laugh & a stern 'Hell No!' ;)

What system had the best fighting game collection?
As everyone before me has said, DreamCast. If only because Soul Calibur,Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 are fighting games #1, #2, and #4 on my all time list respectively.
What portable system had the best fighting game collection?
Personally, I would go with GBA because of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Sure it's kind of bastardized, but I still like it.
What system had the best controller (no 3rd party ones) for fighters?
Well, I like a 6 face button controller, so I guess that makes the Sega Saturn (or late Genesis) the best.
What fighting game had the best control layout?
Soul Calibur
What would you like to see in future 2D Fighters?
A future. A true Street Fighter 4. SNK games that aren't just rehashes. I really want a new Samurai Shodown.
What would you like to see in future 3D Fighters?
No idea.
What Next-Gen system do you think will have the most/best fighters?
Probably PS3 by default, although the Xbox has made good fighter progress in its short time, so who knows.

Not quite sure what you mean by this.

whoops, the missing word was fighting.

I don't have a favorite system for fighters. DC, PS2/One, and Xbox are all good. I don't like fighters on SNES or Genesis though.

I know you don't like fighters on the 16-bit systemes but have you tried TMNT: Tournament Fighters on the SNES? Other than the Street Fighter games it is the best fighter on the system.

Of course. I have it on Genesis (sadly the Genesis version blows)

I remember playing TMNT for the Blockbuster Vidoe Tournaments a LONG time ago. The only thing is that they wouldn't let you change button configurations before the match!
New question: What system do you prefer playing fighters on?
Wel, it depends on what game I'm playing. Overall, I prefer to play fighting games on the PS2. Only because I have a PS1/PS2 stick and don't have converters yet.

Don't let my topic die peeps!

I recently played Last Blade and Last Blade 2, both of which kick ass. I want to play Samurai Shodown 3 and 4 but they don't work on *cough*Mame*cough* ;)
I cracked my rival schools disc rescently and well...life sux
Damn that sucks. Do you have the other disc? IMO Project Justice is better than Rival Schools so if you have that, all is not lost ;)
no sadly i do not
Don't have the other disc or don't have Project Justice?

Both, I wanted to get PJ but I sold my dreamcast a while ago and I only bought Rival Schools w/ the first disc only. I did however back it up so now my choices are to find another disc, do a lil modding, or just move on

Kawaks 'special version' ;)

kawaks sucks couldn't get it to work. Someone get me one of those xbox arcade sticks with the switchable stick part.

so... just to spark further conversation:

what's your opinion on fighters being on the portable platfrom (such as the up and comming release of Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the PSP)?

just wodnering what people think about this...

I think if they put in some wireless internet play I might pick it up. I have Darkstalkers (got it cheap) and have enjoyed it but I only have one other friend that bought it and we do not really hang out that much to play multiplayer.
The main reason I got Darkstalkers is because it was cheap. I do not think I would pay $40 for SFA if it does not have wireless internet play and I already have it for Dreamcast and GBA.

I just ordered up a copy of Fight Evolution for Xbox has anyone played it and how is the live play? I heard there are some major balancing issues but I just had to pick this one up I really enjoyed the anniversary collection and Capcom vs SNK2.

i heard that Fighting Evo was leaps and bounds way better than the PS2 version. I say get it.. it's around $30 bux whish isn't too bad.

How was it better? Isn't it the same with Live play? 2D fighters on portables is great. I wish the GBA had an analog stick though. Can't comment on the PSP but by the looks of the button placement it would be uncomfortable.

Yeah, as far as I know, Capcom Fighting Evolution for the Xbox is the same as the PS2 version (except for online play, of course). The game has some serious balancing issues. The Darkstalkers' characters are overpowered and the 3rd Strike characters are underpowered (most noticeable is Chun-Li). Even with online play, it's not worth $30.

I heard it was very balanced, but that was on gamefaqs

Pyron is amazingly powerful in this game. I only paid $15 for it and it was worth it.

WHOOPS, sorry VGM

I agree...Chun-Li just feels wrong in CFE...like most of the characters in the game except the new girl built for the game. I hope it's the last fighter compilation for a long time-- these franchises have been milked enough.

Actually works out quite good... I can pull off all the moves, supers, and combo with ease, after I got used to how it works.

I'm very much looking forward to SFA 3, as Darkstalkers was an excellent port. Espically if they add in the three extra characters from the GBA version (which I never got, glad I didn't get it now) then it will be awesome.

Capcom Fighting Evolution is fun, but VERY flawed in it's character choices. Could have been a great fighter if they chose more people. They were on the right track including fan favorites such as Jedah, Guy, Alex, and Karin, but the Red Earth characters don't mesh well at all.

I would have loved to have seen Rival Schools characters instead. It was a good start, but it just feels like a half finished project, espically for *Capcom* fighting evolution. And having a new character for CFE was just wrong, there was no point to it whatsoever.

Speaking of portable Fighters...

What's your opinion on the higher-quality ones available for the GBA?

As for playing with sticks, what's the main draw of them? I've never gone out of my way to get one and try it out for say Guilty Gear. Is there more precision involved or what? And what does everyone here view as the best stick available for, say, a PS2?

I like the SF Anniversary Collection stick personally, but my experience is limited with them due to lack of funds.

And personally, I've never tried any of the higher quality fighters for GBA.. I was always interested in SFA 3 for the GBA, but I'll just wait for the PSP version (hopefully Maki, Eagle, and Yun make it in). The general public seemed to think they were ok, though. SFA 3 has an 83% ranking for GBA, which is damn good for a portable fighter with only four buttons.

I remember the KoF ones being quality as well.

I've only played Guilty Gear Advance on the GBA and while it is kind of a bitch to pull of certain moves and use L and R, especially on a DS where they are further apart, it feels very close to Guilty Gear X. It's fun but I think I'm just going to stay away from GBA fighters.

As for sticks-- shoryuken.com has a forum dedicated to them and people there have a lot of knowledge, if you want to get the best possible stick. otherwise, the anniversery sticks work fine.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival are great IMO. I recommend them both. Street Fighter Alpha 3 has extra characters that even the major console didn't have.

Guilty Gear Advance was lacking. The AI was terrible and the system really couldn't do the graphics justice compared to the major console versions. It animated smoothly though.

King of Fighters Neo Blood was just average IMO. The second KOF on GBA is supposed to be VASTLY improved but I have yet to play it.

I thought GGX A was awesome. It was kinda hard to see what was going on when you knocked someone into the air though. It's the best portable fighter I've ever played (but I haven't played many). It's also a good way to play Guilty Gear on gamecube (using the Gameboy Player). I bought it for $7.99 used at gamestop and it is definately worth that price.
Dreamcast had the two best fighters IMO.

Soul Calibur and Power Stone
Can't say anyhing about Soul Calibur, never played it. Power Stone was a great game, but not best fighter quality.

I suppose it depends on the judging criteria. It's certainly not the deep work of art that Soul Calibur and VF4 are, but it's one of the more unique fighters to be released and is more 'fun' than a lot of them.

Very interesting avatar you have there megashock5! I like it.

Another obscure fighter on the DC is Plasma Sword. It is the follow-up to Star Gladiator on the PS One. It isn't the best fighter but it does have very unusual character designs that are worth at least one look.

Heh, I got this for $2 new/sealed at Gamestop way back when. They had a huge stack of them at the counter. Not too bad for dial-a-combo fighter...

I think Capcom's weird character designs may have hurt sales too. Some were great (June and Hayato) but some were really out there.

The most interesting thing of note is that this is where Hayato comes from in the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 game.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but my favorite fighting game is Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the arcade, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PS1. I love fighting games in general... I'm a huge fan of Street Fighter and I love Soul Calibur, Guilty Gear, Project Justice, Marvel vs. Capcom, DOA, KoF, etc. But the MK3 series is my favorite; the style of gameplay isn't really like anything else and I just love the way it incorporates the running, juggling, and combos.

UMK3 is the more "pure" game, whereas MK Trilogy is less polished and kind of slapped together... but the extra characters and moves in Trilogy make it great. MKT is also a bit more "broken" since you need to ban a few characters to make the game fair, but that only really matters in a tournament environment.

Any MK3 love in here?

oh and btw, on a completely unrelated note: why the hell were there two wolverines in MvC2? That always bugged me. The roster was already huge, it's not as if they were hurting in the character slection department. That kind of stuff came to be the norm in MK Trilogy (Sub-Zero, Smoke, Kano, Jax, Raiden, and Kung Lao each had two versions) but I never saw why MvC2 needed it.

I liked MK2 a lot. Jax was my favorite. MK3 was ok but I just prefered pulling off special moves with charges and fireball motions instead of tapping forward twice and hitting punch. MK's control scheme alwas seemed better suited to a 3D game.

The only reason for the two Wolverines is because some people wanted him to have bone claws because he had them in the comics. I prefer the adamantium-Wolvie. :)

I would have figured darkstalkers was your favorite. I remember you had that Morrigan avatar for a long time.

If I remember correctly, one Wolverine had bone claws, while the other had his metal claws.

There might have been slight differences in both, but I'd have to check.

I'm gonna check that out when I get home. I think other than the cosmetic change (bone claw Wolvie has slightly longer claws) they are pretty much the same.
