The Indie/Limited/Obscure Physical Release Thread

Physical media may not be as popular as it was in years past, but that has not stopped it from finding success in more niche areas of the market. In fact, we're seeing so many physical releases, these days, that it has become difficult for even dedicated collectors to keep up with all of them. Many games, usually indie titles, are seeing releases with highly limited prints, regional exclusivity, retailer exclusivity or are simply appearing with little notification. The purpose of this thread is to identify, catalogue, discuss and post deals for these releases, in hopes of making information more accessible and supporting the medium.

FAQ

Q: tl;dr

A: There are probably games that were released physically that you don't know about. Find them here.

Q: What is the "master list"?

A: The master list is a catalogue of all the games that have been identified here that meet certain criteria that differentiates them from standard, mainstream releases. It offers information regarding regional exclusivity, retailer exclusivity, print quantities and more.

Q: What are the criteria? How do you decide which games make the list?

A: For the most part, these will be "smaller" titles that were originally released as digital-only but have been given a physical release. Some exceptions may apply, like if an indie game launches with a physical release, it will likely be listed. Another exception would see a larger title that was only released digitally, for whatever reason, get a limited physical release (example: if Limited Run Games did a print of Fatal Frame V.)

Generally if a game is, as the title says, indie, limited or obscure and has a physical release, you'll see in on the "master list."

Also, the game must be region-free or NTSC-U and in English (subtitles are valid).

Q: Region free or NTSC-U? Doesn't that mean the list is only valid for North American users?

A: This means that every game on the list will be playable on North American consoles, though a few games may have versions that are region-locked on a certain console (this will be noted). Most games are now region free, so if you aren't from the NTSC-U region, it's very likely that the game will work for you. Knowledge of which systems do and don't have region-locking should allow anyone to make use of this list.

Q: What about games for collectors who aren't in the NTSC-U (North American) region or own consoles that can play region-locked games?

A: There may be a separate tab for you guys down the line. One step at a time.

Pre-Orders/Upcoming Releases

Notable Publishers/Distributors

iam8bit

A retailer, located in California, that sells all sorts of limited edition video game merchandise. They occasionally publish physical, indie titles for the PS4.

Limited Run Games

Based in California, Limited Run Games is generally accepted as the company that started the modern trend of releasing physical games in limited quantities. Currently, they publish several games a month but have stated they intend to ramp down. Their games come with collectible, trading cards and are sometimes offered alongside soundtracks, collector's editions and other related merchandise. The two heads of the company are very active on different forums and regularly engage with the community. They currently publish games for the PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch and occasionally the PC.

Play-Asia

They are well known for offering a large variety of imported merchandise, including many games that have not seen western releases but have English subtitles. They've recently partnered with eastasiasoft to distribute exclusive and limited, physical releases. These games are often offered with collector's editions which are highly praised for their presentation, content and low prices.

Special Reserve Games

A company based in Texas, Special Reserve Games currently publishes games in limited quantities with no discernible schedule. Their games are frequently offered alongside collector's editions. They also collaborate with Limited Run Games to create variant covers for some of their titles, which are then sold via Limited Run Games' website. They currently publish for the PS4, PS Vita and PC.

Not sure if it's appropriate to post this but is there any video games released only in Mexico that I should look out for? Here's a list I have so far.

El Chavo Wii
El Chavo kart racing PS3 and 360
Epic Mickey 2 Vita (got this already)
FIFA 14 was the final PS2 retail release and it had an ESRB release in Mexico.

And I'd also be in for that $70 copy you mentioned if you land a bunch of them. :D

Mini update. It seems to be on Walmarts site for $1,000 pesos, which as of right now, it's $54.80USD. It looks like I'll be passing through 5 different Walmarts on my trip throughout the week. If I end up getting multiple copies, would $70 shipped sounds fair?
Sign me up for a copy if you can get them.

It's possible we're still going to do it, but our original plans were to launch a standard edition (4.000 copies) on July 28th at $24.99. That's just not feasible when a more robust release is coming out two weeks earlier at only $5 more.

I've proposed to the devs a push to November/December, with a decreased print run, $29.99 price, and premium contents matching the PA release at bare minimum. I don't want to play second fiddle to Play-Asia so we won't release anything less than what they've got.
Personally, I've been passing on the PA releases because I've been expecting them to hit LRG at some point, like how Soldner was the inverse. But it sounds like that isn't likely.

Hoping I can hop on an order for semi-spheres tomorrow.

Update: I didn't went to Walmart but I ended up going to 3 local mom and pop stores and they didn't have any Mexico exclusive games. However, I traded them 4 games (watch dogs, assassin's Creed 3, Halo 3, and Halo 4), and in return, I got a sealed Virtua Tennis 4 on Vita, and 2 sealed mega Man battle network gba games.

Bekfast, which system? Afaik, it's released on both PS3 and 360.

Notaxation, last I checked, there's a copy for $93 shipped on eBay for an NA one.

I would really prefer 360, but if you find PS3 only then I'm fine with that.

I'm curious how long it takes to get 4,000 Vita games once you've placed the order. Must not be as long as one would think if you were planing to put it on sale in 5 weeks but it still has to be longer than the wait for PS4 games.

Ghost Blade HD is only on PS4. Production times are 2 - 5 weeks on PS4. Vita is 4 - 7 weeks.

I would definitely take a copy of this. No idea it even existed. Paypal ready if you get a bunch.

Is everyone talking about Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls Mexican PS4 edition? If so it can be ordered from Sanborns. They offer free worldwide shipping on Wednesdays, so I ordered one. The total was $599 MXN, which is about $22.

Play Asia is after the market. Watch it. They ship better, they package better, they include bonuses and they accommodate buyers.

No brainer if they do a LRG.

How do I fill out the address form on the website? I see a section called Status, Delegation or Municipality and Colony. What do I put in those sections for the US?

Also, cheaper shipping on a single game and a $3-$5 discount code depending on how much you spend.

Its good to have multiple businesses with the same idea because it creates a better overall product.

Just talked to my aunt and she said that the site is legit so I went ahead and made an order. Got free shipping to the states.

Status is state, Delegation or Municipality is the county, and put N/A for colony

You mean $399 MXN right? I just ordered it for that and it came out to $22. They didn't charge me for shipping so maybe that isn't just on Wednesday?

Excellent. Thanks---you might have just saved me 50 bucks!

Anyway, website was pretty hard to figure out, but after I saved an address with them I was able to check out with PayPal, which allowed me to select my actual address from a drop down list and not feel sketched out about giving that site my credit card. Hopefully it pans out.

Also was not charged for shipping.

So, question for everyone looking to grab Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls from Mexico...is this confirmed to have English on it?

Where the hell is America under the list of countries to choose when inputting my address on Sanborns? I'm seeing pretty much everywhere, including North Korea, the Artic Ocean and  "Old and Bearded" but no US.

Also thanks lot for the heads up to the poster that let us know about it being in stock at Sanborns

Estados Unidos.

Hmmm, so either someone bought all of them off of sanborns, or the site is broken. Every time i add the game to my bag and checkout, it takes me to an empty bag with "recommendations" of games i would like.

It was in my bag before and now it seems to be gone after i finally got my address added.

If anyone can or did buy 2, i will pay 45$ shipped for it. Thanks!

I blame Slickdeals. Always a good scapegoat.

Anyway, glad I got an order in before they ran out. Hope mine doesn't get cancelled.

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning and I'll be having limited internet til I get to Puerto Vallarta so I'll try my best to keep you guys updated on the Heavy Rain solution.

I just want to clarify that *Play-Asia* doesn't include the bonuses - Eastasiasoft does. Aerea proves PA themselves will stretch anything out as an exclusive. It was ~$20 more expensive than Amazon (after considering shipping and prime discount) and it only came with a free deck of cards versus the edition on Amazon.

Alternate note, it's also really easy for them to offer cheap shipping as a China based company - China has negotiated ridiculously good international rates. Not to mention we pay our shipping staff a livable wage which is exponentially higher than someone would get paid in China for the same job.

Shipping from the US is expensive and there is no real way around that.

Welcome to the "benefits" of globalization. Wish you guys luck with this but this is how it goes anymore and it can get very hard to compete very quickly. When you don't have slave labor and those stupid e-packet Chinese shipping rates you really do get screwed.

You are correct. My total was $599 MXN since I added a Blu-ray to my order and that's what I was thinking about when I typed my post. The free shipping may be on just Wednesdays and Thursdays.
