Also, a new blog post about the morality system, at least as far as his potential companions are concerned:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/02/01/infamous-2-morality-revealed-meet-the-companions/
Greetings from the SCEE PlayStation Experience in London! We’re excited to be at the event, and for the first time, reveal how our duality/morality system will work in inFAMOUS 2.

Karma moments from inFAMOUS are now represented by character-driven dialogue and 3D mocap cutscenes. Your conscience comes into play with the introduction of Kuo and Nix, two NPC characters. Kuo is a NSA agent working to help Cole defeat the Beast. Nix is a New Marais native that grew up in the swamps around New Marias, whose hatred for Bertrand stems from witnessing him kill her family. She is your hedonistic guide that coaxes Cole into not thinking about the consequences of his actions.

There will be multiple crossroads where Cole will decide to follow Kuo’s lead or give into Nix’s temptations. Your choices will directly affect the gameplay by permanently remaining in the world. Whatever path you choose, remember that in inFAMOUS 2 you can always change your mind. It’s never too late to look for redemption… or to say “to hell with it” and become selfish.

Attendees of the show will get to go hands on with the Good or Evil version of the “Save Kuo” mission. Two allies. Two plans of attack. A choice to follow Zeke’s plan and get the help of the captured police by taking out the convoy guarded by the Militia, then assaulting the Militia compound with the army of cops to free Kuo. Or, side with Nix and her destructive plan to ram a trolley filled with explosives through the front gate. The choice is yours!

Amazon has awesome pre-order bonus and other bonuses from retailers

Definitely won't be buying it anytime soon (if at all) as they are pulling that same crap again, game powers as a pre-order bonus. Though this time it's even worse as different retailers are offering different powers as pre-order bonuses so no matter which store you pick you are missing content.

You're not buying it because they're offering powers as pre-order bonuses? What kind of dumb logic is that? It's not like it's a multiplayer game that is impacting your game. You can play the campaign perfectly fine without any of those bonuses, just like the original. I mean, the amazon bonus just gives you a gold version of a weapon that you can get in the game, the gamestop bonus just unlocks a weapon early. Big f'n whoop. Seems like an extremely silly reason to give for not getting it.

Wow, I'm definitely getting the Hero edition (probably the first LE I'll buy this year) and pre-ordering at GS. The rest of the places seem like items that really don't serve a purpose other than cosmetic, while the GS offer seems like the giga-watt blades from the first one.

I hope they do a 'previously on' or something like that b/c I never got to finish part one, lost my PS3 and save file, no way am I starting over when I found all the shards on the first 2 islands and was progressing quite nicely..:bomb: oh well. But I'm really looking forward to picking this up.

All the pre-order bonuses are included in the collector's edition like what they did with LBP2.

Maybe I'm mistaken but it looks pretty small. In all seriousness, it looks like it would hold a book or cell phone and that's about it...not really big enough to hold a decent amount of stuff.

the cole statue is 8.5 inches. so if you go by scale, the pouch is about 10 inches tall. haha.

A PS3 game case is about 7 inches tall, but in the picture it's only about half the statue's size.

Infamous 2 is getting some new feature that allows for user-generated missions of various types and those that are rated highly enough by players will be dropped into the single-player game. This is just being announced at GDC, so there aren't any concrete articles explaining the feature in detail just yet.

http://twitter.com/#!/kobunheat
Infamous 2 will have user-generated levels, Sucker Punch says at GDC.
Apparently the user generated missions will be integrated into the single player story mode somehow.
Apparently you can have a "shooting gallery" or platforming style missions as well as stuff that's more like the main game experience.
If your mission is played by a lot of people and highly rated, Sucker Punch will drop it into the single player game. Interesting stuff.
Public beta in early April, info on signup on March 14.

Been actually playing the first Infamous and I don't know why everyone gave it such "high" ratings. I mean navigating the city is pretty cool when you have your powers unlocked but other than that its the same repetitive missions and a so-so story. It's a good game, not nearly as good as the hype made it out to be.

Not levels, just missions.

They've got a full post and trailer on the PS Blog to explain the new feature:

Here at Sucker Punch, we’ve spent the last couple of years hard at work on inFAMOUS 2. Over the last nine months or so, we’ve talked about a lot of things that make I2 awesome—things like crazy new powers for Cole, super-powered sidekicks, radically improved graphics and special effects, a cool new karma system with branching story lines and multiple endings—but we’ve managed to keep one major feature completely secret.

Until today.

Trailer: http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/1643/0.64

Sandbox games like inFAMOUS 2 are a ton of fun. There’s a whole city to explore, and we provide lots of stuff to do in the city… but no matter how many missions and mini-missions and systemic opportunities and branching story lines we add to the game, eventually the story ends.

We thought inFAMOUS 2 would be better if it didn’t end—if you never ran out of missions and mini-missions to play and things to do. So… we spent the last two years adding a User-Generated Content feature to the game. With User-Generated Content, inFAMOUS 2 players can build new missions, then share them with the world. I think you’ll all quickly discover that while building missions is a lot of fun, seeing people play and enjoy those missions is even better!

There really aren’t a lot of limits to the sorts of missions you can build. Sure, you can build the sort of missions that will ship on the inFAMOUS 2 disk. Mission creators have access to the same set of characters, creatures and props—so if you want to set a pack of Hive Lords rumbling after Cole through the streets of New Marais, you can do it. If you want to have Cole and Zeke face off against Nix and Kuo, you can do it.

If you want to bend the rules of inFAMOUS 2 to create new kinds of missions, you can do that too. Wish I2 had pure stealth missions? No problem, you can create stealth missions. Looking for more of a challenge? Try taking away some of Cole’s powers—see how the player does facing a platoon of Militia wielding only his Amp. Or add an old-school platforming challenge, or a race, or… I could go on all day.

It’s pretty easy to do missions that are more like mini-games, too. Skeet shooting? No problem. Disc golf? Assuming you’re happy tossing around cars instead of Frisbees, sure. How about a mission where Zeke just tells you bad jokes until you shoot him? Um, yeah, you can do that, too.

Building missions is only half the story, of course—we make it super easy to upload your missions to the network, so other players can see your cool new missions.

User-generated missions show up in the world just like regular missions. When you walk up to them, you see the PSN tag of the mission creator, plus extra information like the mission’s current rating. And back at Sucker Punch headquarters, we’ll be watching—missions that get high scores will get promoted to the Sucker Punch Featured Missions list, and those missions will end up just about everyone’s copy of New Marais.

We think this is a neat opportunity for people to become famous for the missions they build. We know there are lots of creative people out there, people who love third-person action games like I2, and have great ideas about what they’d do with the game if they had the chance. Well, now we’re giving you that chance! Let’s see what you can do!

There will be a limited public beta of inFAMOUS 2 UGC starting in early April. We’ll be announcing how to sign up for the beta on March 14… watch infamousthegame.com for more details! And be sure to watch the video above to whet your appetite…

PCS on inFamous sounds fun, as well and shocking other players.

I still imagine DLC lightening colors at some point.

Another reason I may just give Sucker Punch full retail MSRP. Unless someone comes out with a deal. Either way I loved the first game and look forward to an improved version.

I was already going to get this game day one since I loved the first Infamous, now this might be the game I will play all Summer or even the rest of the year.

New trailer and info about some new powers for Cole:
Trailer: http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/1763/4.032

For those of you who don’t know the original inFAMOUS story, Cole’s electrical powers appear when he’s caught in the blast of a mysterious device called the Ray Sphere. Cole gains more and more abilities, becomes more and more powerful, and survives the gauntlet of Empire City… but he also is given a glimpse into his future. He realizes that even at the height of his powers, he is no match for the challenge that awaits. A battle with a great Beast looms, and Cole isn’t ready to face it.

So in inFAMOUS 2, Cole travels South to New Marais to trace a path to the man behind the Ray Sphere technology, Dr. Sebastian Wolfe. With buddy Zeke riding shotgun, they set off to find the key to the next step in Cole’s evolution and a new level of power– powers that will be necessary if Cole hopes to survive the upcoming battle.

When Cole and Zeke eventually track down Dr. Wolfe, he explains that over years of experimenting, he had isolated the specific type of energy responsible for all genetic mutations. Dr. Wolfe’s technology—like the Ray Sphere—was all created to concentrate and manipulate this energy. To most people a dose of this mutative energy is fatal—but for a small fraction, the energy unlocks their untapped potential. These rare individuals are called Conduits, and of course Cole is one of them.

Wolfe has also developed a device—called a Blast Core—which can store this type of energy safely for an extended period of time… Over the years, he’s built and charged six of these Blast Cores. So to continue his evolution, Cole will need to locate these all-important Blast Cores, and absorb their energy into his body. But Wolfe fears the Blast Cores will fall into the wrong hands, so he has moved them to safe locations around the city — and Cole will have to hunt them all down.

Of course our story will take some important twists and turns along the way, we’ll meet other Conduits, and as in the original inFAMOUS game, your choices about what kind of person you are. But no matter which path Cole follows, one thing remains the same: without the Blast Cores he won’t survive.
I'm doing my evil playthrough of the first game now and it's really amping me up for the sequel.
I'm going to do this as well after I finish arkham asylum (I beat it 3 times on 360, but I want me some trophies ).

My excitement for this game is bordering on the lines of obsession. I can't remember the last time I've been this excited for a game. I really hope it turns out well. The article on IGN about the user created missions that they posted today gives me a lot of hope.

As a CAG, I always buy my games from amazon (free release day shipping, good credit) and trade them in as soon as I'm done, but this will definitely be a MSRP keeper for me. I am seriously tempted to get this at midnight somewhere and forfeit any credit or savings. That's a good 12 hours I could put into the game!!!

This is unhealthy..

I am right there with you. I loved the first game and after watching the trailers recently and that behemoth, I am even more amped. It makes me want to go find the first game again. I have been buying games recently just because they are cheap, but it is more satisfying to find a game I love and pay more money because of its quality. Or at least quality that I perceive.

Yeah going form the videos I've been watching it def looks like they've improved upon everything quite nicely, yet retained that familiar gameplay that makes it inFamous.

Cool, thanks for the vids. Only watched a few minutes, but it certainly looks more colorful that the first. also faster and more fun to play, though the "parkour" elements (e.g. where he's climbing the building around 1:30) look more floaty and less "realistic" to me.

yeah theres alot of improvements all over. especially when it comes to npc reactions. i jumped on a car at one point and levitated it near a group of people. some of them cheered and clapped a few freaked out and others did other things and their character models look alot better too seemed like there were more types of people around.

this infamous may end up being more of a challenge they have some very powerful enemies that in the right setting will cause you trouble.

once i finish the missions already in the game ill try to make one of my own. i believe you can go online and post them and try out ones others have made. you have a decent number of options ofr mission types.

this is again one of those few instances where a sequel does look and feel to be imrpoved over the original ive only used the electric powers he has at the beginning ( basic electric shot, electric grenade, the force push , object levitation and throwing) but it looks like you may be able to unlock more.

the rail grind and air glide are also unlocked theres also these
vertical pipes on the sides of some buildings that you can jump on and be shot up into the air kind of like rail grinding the side of a building.

when you attack enemies with your stick
a meter fills up with each hit and once it fills up you hit triangle for a finishing move. seems like diff ones pop up.

that move where you drop down and hit the ground causing a shockwave is in there too.

heh, people are taking the LBP2 route and attempting to make different game types with the creator. I played one mission that was skeeball. It didn't really work too well though.

did any of you who got into the beta get an email from sony talking about how people were having trouble logging into the infamous 2 forum or something?

I got my beta invite yesterday as well. Despite the improvements I was actually a little surprised how very similar the feeling of the gameplay was compared to the first game. And this is coming from a person who just plat'd the first game a week ago. I've been playing around with some of the custom missions and I found that the best rated missions are always ambush or kill em' all type. I haven't seen any clever missions that stood out for me yet, but I'm sure as more people get into the beta that will change.
