Iron Man - Movie Thread
Saw it thursday night and it was great. It Batman Begins and Ghost Rider have got to be my top 3 comic book movies.
Seriously?

This movie should not be compared to any other movie outside of the Marvel universe. This was much better than Spiderman 3 and Ghost Rider.

saw the advance screening Thursday. loved the movie. great origin story. the different creations of the suit. i knew i should of stayed towards the end. im goin to see it again anyway since i got a free ticket. i need to see that ending, and look for that Tobey Maguire cameo. where was that?
You didnt see stan? It was kind of obvious.

Stark mistook him for Hugh Hefner when entering the party
At the end when I saw stan lee in the credits I thought that might have been him. Hell I mistook him like stark did. Dont ask me why.

Yes anomynous, I liked Ghost Rider. I didn't think it was all that bad. Hell it was alot better then Spider-man and some of the others i thought. They need to do like they are doing with the hulk and punisher and remake spider-man with out that jackass that plays peter parker.

Took a break from GTA IV and saw it Friday. The movie was kick ass and I can't wait for an Avengers movie. They also showed the trailer for the Hulk reboot movie and it made me a believer in second chances.

I saw it last night and thought it was great. It set itself up just like Batman Begins did. I can't wait for the sequel.

It's a shame I had work today, because a local comic book store was handing out slips for a free comic at the movie. I would've been able to go if I didn't have work :whistle2:(
You didnt see stan? It was kind of obvious.

Stark mistook him for Hugh Hefner when entering the party
Oh wow! I didn't even notice that was him. I thought it was actually Hugh Hefner. Guess I wasn't really paying attention X(

I'm probably the only one who doesn't want to see an Avengers movie. Who the fuck wants to see Captain America and Thor in a live action movie? And other than those guys the other notable Avengers; the Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-Men, and Spiderman all have their own movies already.
I just saw it last night it was damn good. id give it an 8.5.
I'll say a 9 over here, very enjoyable throughout and the only thing keeping it from a 10 is...well I don't know exactly, but it doesn't get it :shame:

The guy who saw Tobey was bsing?

Well I am gonna see it in about an hour again, so I can see the Samuel Jackson and see if I can find Tobey.

Cool. I would like to know where Tobey is so I can be cool in front of my friends! *cries*

What part was Tobey M in? I didn't see that.

I also didn't see the movie prop that Cheapy D is giving away for the contest.

See now that the "Avengers" movie is getting a high demand after that scene, it's going to force DC to really start moving the ball forward with the JL movie instead of tossing ideas around for years. If both Avengers and JL movies start production soon, then it is a possibility we may have two juggernauts going head to head for the Summer of 2010.

loved it, im a big fan of Downey Jr...and it wouldnt been as good if it wasnt him. I for one am interested in seeing the avengers movie. Should be a doozy.

With Tony Stark making a cameo in The Incredible Hulk, I am really hoping we get to see the Hulkbuster armor in action in the Avengers movie.

Oh and the Captain America supersoldier serum is used in the Hulk movie as well, they are laying the groundwork for the avenger's movie all over the place.

Saw it again.

The audience was really boring this time. Seeing it at the preshowing was 2x's better. Everyone would cheer at like every sweet part. And the audience the second time was like quiet as hell. Lame...

I was the only one to cheer for SHIELD the second time, really awkward.

And I didn't see Tobey this time either. The other guy is on some type of Tobey Crack.
Oh well, and I saw the Nick Furry thing, was sweeet! Didn't know he said, "Avenger Project" dude that movie would be sick!

Can't wait! I want to see Hulk throw Spiderman at some bitches.

Only issue with the Avengers movie is doesnt more then one movie studieo own the rights to each of the marvel movies? I know sony has it for spiderman but doesnt someone else have the hulk and another have the x men?

So who else could possibly be in The Avengers movie?

Iron Man
Hulk
Spiderman
Wolverine
Nick Fury
Captain America? (well, he would have to be in it, but its been a while since he was in on TV or the movies)
Thor (same thing here)

I think Marvel has the Hulk license back with the new movie.

You know, I had heard that the movie was cool, but wow. I was completely blown away. 10/10, easily. The audience was great, cheering and laughing. I told my friend that we should see if there's anything after the credits. When he said "I'm Nick Fury", the place erupted. It was freakin' AWESOME. Walking out, I overheard one girl going "I love being a comic book nerd".. indeed, lady, indeed.

Saw it last nite. It was okay but I had some problems with the movie:
1. Yinsen is never given a reason why he helps stark. It was like he was just there to help him and die, people were laughing when he died cause it seemed so throwaway and awkward.

2. The biggest problem was with Obadiah Stane. First, he tries to kill Stark when stark is the one creating all the tech and making him rich a billion times over? doesn't make sense cause with Tony in his playboy mode, he didn't give a shit about anybody and Obadiah was still sitting pretty pulling the strings behind the scenes. But by trying to kill Tony he creates the Anti-tony which is anathema to stark industries. Second, he's old and it doesn't make sense that he wants all the power and glory now when he could have had it back when Stark was a youngster. Third, he makes a better suit than Tony's using Schematics from Tony's shitjob suit from the caves? How is this possible if Tony is a genius? not only does he make a more powerful suit but it seems he's already a professional at using it just by getting in the suit for a couple of seconds while Tony needed months or R&D just to get the flight propulsion right. And Lastly, with his cover blown by Pepper he just goes on a killing spree? Dude, SHIELD knows what you are up to now.

3. And if SHIELD were such a big government agency why the fuck do they need to slink around and ask pepper all the time for help like they've lost their dog or something. the Agent for SHIELD seemed like he was trying to sell Amway to pepper not the regulator of top secret highly funded projects.

It seems that Favreau Modeled this movie after Sam Raimi's Spider-man 1 and robert Downey Junior modeled Stark after Johnny Depp's idiosycratic captain sparrow. To be honest, Iron Man sucked! I mean the character, not the movie. Tony Stark was much better and more entertaining. It seemed like I was watching a worse CGI transformers when Iron Man came on and the last scene looked like it was rejects from the transformers highway car battle. Decent but not mind blowing. I don't think Iron Man 2 will be good unless they get a really good villain.

Usually the first two days of a highly anticipated movie has the most enthusiastic crowd, after that it dies down a bit. I think SLJ said Avenger Intiantive. I don't remember seeing TM/PP either.

No one picked up on the full SHIELD until it was said outloud that way. When I first heard it I was like, doesn't that spell SHIELD?
Walking out, I overheard one girl going "I love being a comic book nerd".. indeed, lady, indeed.
In my showing I guess this guy and his girlfriend and his friend were leaving and the girl screamed "I AM NOT A COMIC BOOK FREAK!". Guess she got dragged along and didn't know what was going on. I almost bursted out laughing leaving the theater.

I admit the movie did have some flaws, but since I have never read any of the Iron man comics and only seen some of the cartoons I gave it a chance to work. I knew that Yinsen was going to die, but hoped that they would change it so that he could escape with Tony. I am sure Tony would have given him a top job in SI. But oh well.

I really didn't like the part where he tells everyone that he is Iron Man. By doing this, he puts himself and his company in danger. Tony has no choice but to work with SHIELD and the Avengers other wise they can fuck him up big time.

Also did anyone find it weird when Pepper stuck her hand down Tony's chest to hook up the Arc reactor? I was like whoa that tube is deep. Considering all of SI technology, couldn't he get the shrapnel removed by his best doctors?

No way they would use Spider-Man or Wolverine for an Avengers movie. Cap and Thor are both scheduled to get their own movies soon, and there's talk of one for Ant Man as well.

Edgar Wright with Ant Man?

Simon Pegg as a super hero possibly?

Win

Then Avengers with Downey Jr, Norton and Pegg?

Saw this last night with some friends and loved it. I can't wait to see what they do with the
Avenger initiative
hook at the very end of the movie.

Caps movie I've heard has been layed to the way side for fear that it wouldn't score big in any other market except in America.
That last part after the credits was great. Just totally awesome, best after credits thing ever.
Shit. Saw it yesterday because my girlfriend and I hadn't been to the movies in months. Both of us were very impressed. But we didn't see any after-credits thing.

Captain America is not as popular internationally as Captain Uruguay or Captain France :D
Captain America is not as popular internationally as Captain Uruguay or Captain France :D
Dont forget captain Britain (union jack as he is more commonly referred to as)
No one picked up on the full SHIELD until it was said outloud that way. When I first heard it I was like, doesn't that spell SHIELD?
Honestly, no, I didn't really pay attention until the agent to just call them SHIELD. Sam Jackson looks pretty weird with a eye patch. But he's actually who Marvel designed Nick Fury after in the Ultimate universe.

The one thing I hope they don't do with the sequel is introduce one of Stark's rogues gallery villains, Mandarin. For some reason, I just don't see that character working in a movie.

As for the Avengers, they'll probably go with the original line-up. Sony has Spider-Man, Fox has X-Men & Fantastic Four(meaning no Wolverine).

Can't wait to see War Machine possibly in the sequel, since it was teased.
Dont forget captain Britain (union jack as he is more commonly referred to as)
Well Captain Britain and Union Jack are not related, there is always a possibility they will show up in the upcoming movies.

Union Jack was a member of the Invaders (Alongside Captain America, Bucky, the Human Torch, Namor, etc) and Captain Britian was developed (in the Ultimate Universe) as a response to the Ultimates. He fought alongside Captain France and Captain Spain.

As for the Avengers/Ultimate line up, I think we are looking at more of the classic group.

Captain America
Iron Man
Wasp
Ant Man
Thor

(Maybe) Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Vision, and Scarlet Witch

Yeah, when they said "SHIELD" out loud, everyone in the audience marked out, whether they caught it before or not (as did those that sat until the end for Sam Jackson w/an eye patch). So I guess we don't need to spoilerize anything now? Anyway, the movie was awesome--better than the trailer. Downey was perfect, Bridges was surprisingly perfect as Stane, and the movie was entertaining to me from start to finish.

I guess a lot of other people thought so too: Marvel said the movie did $100 million, $201 million worldwide. 10th biggest opening and fourth biggest for a superhero movie. And I heard quite a few, "I'm seeing this again" as I was leaving the theater. Bluray "must get" for me.

Edit: separate thread for Avengers talk? Still in the talking stage for that one, I think. I can't see Downey Jr doing an ensemble piece like that after being lead, so maybe they'll bring Terrance Howard in for that one?

I didn't read the whole topic but I'll state what I thought of the film. I saw it today and enjoyed it. I've never read an Iron Man comic in my life, but my dad did when he was younger so he and I went. Tony Stark seemed almost like a cockier Batman what with the whole, no real super powers thing.

I liked the whole thing with the glaring exception being the final fight. I was too comic-bookish (I know, I know) and seemed campy. Also, the whole icing up thing effectively brought the audience back towards the start of the movie, but it really didn't do anything but take up time.

I disagree on the last fight.
A "comic book" slugfest would've been just the two suits going mano a mano. But both characters lost the masks and ended up facing each other exposed. It was really the only way to end it and still keep the movie from losing it's personality.

Saw it today and enjoyed it. Was better then the majority of comic book movies that have come out, but that still isn't saying much. Can't wait for the sequel, which reminds me about why they ended the movie the way they did. I guess they will just make the "I am Iron man" remark look like a joke in the next one.
Holy smokes. I've gotta see this thing.
what? you haven't seen itn Moxio? what the fuck are you waiting for?
Unless they decide to start a Marvel Civil War movie series.

Which would be bad ass.
I tried to read that series but their was just to meny of them. I have them on disc around here some place but at the time some of them were still comeing out and didn't want to keep up with downloading them. I thought at first it would be just the 7 books but ended up being more. did they ever come out with a graphic novel of them? I would buy that if it had them all in order even it it was more then one set.

When he said "I am Iron Man" first thing I thought of was civil war. Only in the first issues of civil war and some of the tie in issues for spiderman, fantastic 4 and others wasn't stark playing both sides?

I saw it last night and I was more than impressed. I'm trying not to hype it up too much to my friends who have not seen it, but IMHO it is in the top 3 of all time traditional comic book movies. Full discloser: I am a comic fan, but I had only a passing knowlage of Ironman; so I can't speak for inaccuracies; but I found very little in this film that could be nitpicked.
I'll be going again soon.

Marvel just released their upcoming movie plans. Avengers in July 2011. Iron Man 2 in 2010. I am now really excited.

Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates!
Source: Marvel Entertainment
May 5, 2008

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $104.2 million domestically and over $201 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)

In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.

With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)
