Hello, I am a Chicago guy so I would like to start a Chicago thread so maybe we can help each other out by letting Chicago area cheapasses find cheap deals.

Saturday or Sunday would be great, because during the week I have a weird school schedule.

The idea of the Chicago meet up being recorded in a video or podcast kind of thing would be awesome. How would we even do that though?

We could do that glow-in-the-dark mini-golf place by the HIP, if everyone is agreeable. It's sounds pretty fun to me. Then we could convoy over to Target, Best Buy and K-Mart to pillage for clearance deals.:D

That sounds cool. Too bad the HIP never really had ANY sort of clearance shit worthwhile. Only store I recall is Target, but now it's all empty last time I went.
I think I've been to the one in Hoffman Estates once, though the most fun I had there was killing myself on a Pump It Up machine, I believe. More available arcade cabinets = more awesomer. Just a suggestion. :)
That's why I was thinking GameWorks, but D&B might be closer for people. It's downtown.

I have been to the golf place by the hip and it sucks. I dont want to go store shopping it distracts from talking and meeting each other. I will see if I can record discussions through my mac and convert it to be a podcast. A good place to meet up may be at giordanos, Father and son pizza, or a restaurant like bakers square like we did a long time ago with rocksolid.

These are all great places for meeting-and-eating, but I think people want to game, too. Maybe we should do a poll before we decide?

A place to sit and eat would be great. I really like the idea of the podcast thing. That would be so cool! Are there any decent arcades in Chicago anymore? Shopping around stores might kind of make the meeting suck, since we'll be all over the store.

Cool. So it's not a big deal if we do it at a restaurant? And, I was just kidding about CAG shopping.:D

Cast your votes for the meeting place:

Giordano's
Father and Son
Baker's Square
Corner Bakery
Panera
Chipotle

I can prolly bring my camera, and possibly a video camera.

Oh, and Johnny, I just read the rest of your post about getting your games ganked. That sucks hard. Can't you go after the moving company?

Yeah, I've been to the D&B's downtown on Clark and the one way out there in Addison, and they should have a few cabinets to please the discriminating gamer. I believe I killed myself on Pump It Up over at the Addison location, too. :p Now to look out for D&B's coupons/deals?
I'm down for Bakers Square, Father and Son, or Giordano's.
Father and Son or Giordano's for pizza. Bakers Square... if I have to.
When would be a good day for this? I say the last Saturday of September.
Saturdays in September are good for me, though you might want to avoid Labor Day weekend because lots of folks might have other plans. Also, try not to make it too early in the day. :)

I've never been to any of those places so I'm down for any of them. But I've ate Chipotle's food and I think it blows. If the meet up is there, I'll be disappointed but I'll be a champ and still go :)

So let's plan on Sat., Sept. 27 at Father and Son. Which location?

North Ave.
Milwaukee Ave.
Northbrook (1911 Cherry Lane)

Also, I grabbed the last copy of Scene It? from Sears at Six Corners. I'll be returning it (borrowed one from a friend) if someone wants to meet at the store and buy it before someone else snags it.
I'm way out by Schaumburg but I might be able to swing this. Which one is easiest to get to? I'm not very accustomed to the city.
I'd say the one on Milwaukee, just because it's not as congested in that area. But the one on North Ave. might be closer to the highway.

It would take about the same amount of time for me to get to each of these locations, but I have been to the Milwaukee Ave. location (near Diversey) before. That one's definitely got its own parking lot, though the others might as well.

Not for me, but I guess if I really want Scene It, I could always redeem 5,100 Live Search Club points on it to avoid paying with cash (just with my time).

Milwaukee ave for me would be good.

Is there any DLC for Scene It, a la more questions? I've had it for a while but I guess I'm waiting for people to come over to bust it out.

No, and I'm pissed.

Gamespot
has Scene It! Box Office Smash with a 10/28/08 release date. Box art and pricing at Amazon. It looks like they won't be putting out any DLC for Lights, Camera Action. Maybe the film clips and audio take up too much space.

Regarding the meetup, I think I can go. Just gotta check if any important family / weddings / whatever events are going on that day or not. Any location is good, but I think the Milwaukee one is closest?

I do have a suggestion...just that it's hella far. It'll probably be a good thing to keep in mind for a future meet up. Everyone I know keeps talking about a "gamer bar" where you can play console games. I found it:

Ranked
15014 S. Des Plaines St.
Plainfield, IL 60544
815-577-6591

More info from Metromix. Not sure how this place is, but I'd like to go there sometime.

Milwaukee Ave works for me as well.

Shieryda, unfortunately it's was 3 months before I noticed the theft so it's too late to go after the moving company now.

What happened was back in May, I moved from my old place to a sublet for the summer with the plan to move to a new apartment in the fall. Since I'd only be here a few months, I ended up putting all my games/books and such (maybe 35 boxes total) into a public storage unit back then but didn't discover the missing box of xbox & 360 games until this week. Went to pull a game to ship out in a trade and realized that one or both of the movers must have seen the box marked "360" and set it aside to steal.

After 3 months, those games are long gone. I suppose I could go to the cops but they would just have a good laugh and file a report - why bother. I was planning on just using the same company again next month to move, keep an better eye out to make sure nothing else gets taken and then not pay the scumbags when they finish.

I forgot that Muvico theater has a gamer bar.

http://www.muvico.com/digitalden.asp

That ranked place is cool. I might check it out later.

I just realized that I wouldn't be able to make the meet. My wife and I are going to be out of town that weekend. (09/26 - 09-/28)

I'll just have to go to the next one.
No, and I'm pissed.
Hahahaha...I'm not laughing cuz you're pissed, sorry. Just reading that reaction was funny.
Also, does anyone have the 360 wireless adapter and if so, is it better or worse than just running an ethernet cable from a router.
IMO, the wireless adapter blows. I actually run a cable thru my entire apartment just because the performance sucked so bad.
The sale is still on at Guitar Center, though you'll want to call ahead for availability:

:360: $99
:ps2: $69
Please posting stuff like this. Every time I see that price I want to go buy it which would then lead to my wife "finding" me in the kitchen with a knife embedded in my chest. She hates when I buy games :)

2 copies of the PS2 version at the Villa Park store.

As for the 360 version:
Highland park has 2 copies, South Chicago has 3. Lucky for my wife me, Villa Park and Naperville are sold out.

Anybody take advantage of that Comcast deal with the free Wii that ended earlier this month? I was tempted but decided I didn't want to take on extra cable bills. Semi-relatedly, I'm pissed that to keep DSL you need to pay for a regular phone line, even if you don't use it. Blarg. Big telecom can suck my ass.

I notice at the hollywood video at harlem and diversey that they had a sign saying that they have wii in stock so if you need one call ahead.

If we do the meeting would this be another trade/sell meetup or would people like this to be a meetup to know and meet fellow Chicago area cags. Also, the people going is recording the meetup for a podcast be cool or do you not want to be recorded?
If we do the meeting would this be another trade/sell meetup or would people like this to be a meetup to know and meet fellow Chicago area cags.
I'm cool with meeting like the last time, I don't have much to trade.

If people have stuff to trade, they should bring it. I only have a few guides right now.

We should try and get a head count of about how many people will be coming by next week (and confirm the date of Sept. 27).

I don't have much to trade besides a couple games. Recording ftw, sounds like a badass idea.
very fast, Best Buy in Burbank IL is doing 50% over 200 games (GTA IV SE included) Thing is it is just tonight only (8/30/08)

lots of goodies
Thanks, heading over this evening.

FYI for those dumb city folk (like myself) not sure where Burbank is even located - It's across from Ford City Mall at 7600 S Cicero.

Sounds like a good sale. I'm dirt broke so I can't go. If anyone does, post your finds!
