Kung Fu Hustle - Reminded me of Kung Pow Enter the Fist I think that it was because of the English Audio.
Did a store near you break street date? I thought that was coming out August 9. None of the import releases have an English dub, I believe.

I'll probably rent this to check it out, and then I'll buy the import if it's good. The U.S. version is cut for no reason.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 4/5

Sweet & Sour I loved it but it was very flawed. I liked that it is not a remake but a different outlook on a classic. Depp did a great job making a peculiar but not creepy Wonka. The songs in CatCF are weak but funny, but the score is awful. The Score sounds like he recycled a bit from all his other movies and remixed them and stuck them in CatCF. I am being crucial CatCF is a great flick but Burton is stuck in his own ways. Burton somehow made CatCF the most vivant colorful, dark movie I have ever seen.
This review basically sums up my take of the film. I truly enjoyed it. I liked how Burton stuck to story with bits of the original in it, but turned it into something of his own, and in my opinion capturing the original story better. The score wasn't that bad IMO. There are some catchy tunes and Danny Elfman didn't do too bad of a job. Burton and Depp always seem to shine. And that last line of yours, of CatCF being the most vibrant colorful dark movie is the best quote and sums up the movie to a t. It fits it perfectly.

I would have to give it a 9/10 though.
I saw it last night and it exceeded my expectations ten-fold. If you like '70s exploitation, this movie is for you.

Much like Tarantino, but far more disturbing and a little more true to form (as it is set in the '70s).

I loved the role-reversal near the last half... brilliant stuff.
This quote is from the Devil's Rejects, but this basically sums up my view on it as well. Saw it this weekend and loved it. I did my part to help support Zombie and he came through this time aruond. Far better than the first and the dialogue was excellent. The story IMO was also a lot better than the first. It felt that this time around Zombie really flushed out the characters and the development is great. Like you said, the role-reversal at the end was excellent. Really turned it around. This movie make House of 1000 Corpses seem like it was only meant to be the backstory or for just to set up this film, basically sequel fodder, but nonetheless this one comes through and is awesome.

From Dusk till Dawn - This is probably my favorite Vampire/Vampire related movie ever. I absolutely love the dialogue. Tarentino's writing never fails it seems and Rodriguez's directing is great as well, with it bieng comical sometimes like with the band at the Titty Twister. Clooney is great and I can actually stand him in this movie. The character fits his snob persona perfectly and he shines. I found Tarentino to be overly dramatic in his scenes and to be very annoying, I was glad he died in the film. The rest of the cast is great and it's kind of funny seeing three different Chong variations. I also love the plot of the film. It's just enough out there that it works like a charm. Salma Hayek is incredible Santanico Pandemonium, even though it is only one scene, but it's worth just seeing the movie for that one seen(people that have seen the movie know what I'm talking about). She does the best strip tease I've ever seen in a film without getting nude. You've gotta love Tom Savini as well. His character of the Sex Machine is hilarious and just cool. You've also gotta love his effects even though they aren't state of the art. An excellent film in what to me is mostly a stale genre. The movie's an absolute blast.

Up next, From Dusk till Dawn 2.

Hiroshima, Mon Amour with commentary. Say what you will about his dryness, Peter Cowie researches the hell out of these commentaries, heh.

The Aviator

Quite good, but shy of greatness. The first third or so is fantastic, with a great, propulsive look at Hughes' making of Hell's Angels, but after that, the movie runs into a bit of turbulence. It drags some in the middle as Howie's OCD gets crazy bad, and the movie ends up seeming a little too long, with some extraneous stuff that I think the film could have done without. The movie ends up just seeming a bit too much like a standard Oscar biopic (although not nearly as much as Ray), without the extra cinematic oompf that makes another biopic, say Scorsese's Raging Bull, a classic. Still, plenty of strong points in the movie, including great acting from the cast (especially DiCaprio, who really pours everything he's got into the role), some great flying sequences, and the excellent hearing sequences near the end. I don't really think I'd call it one of last year's best, but if you're interested in seeing it, definitely check it out.

I fucking love the internet.
Hey, I watched it several times in theaters, and I'll be buying the good DVD when it comes out.
Same here. I just haven't seen it in awhile and don't want to go through the hassle of getting copy. I'll wait till the DVD so it will be even better to watch.

The Thin Blue Line

All I can say is that you have to see this movie right now. Just came to DVD last week, so you have no excuse, fuckers.

Vernon, Florida

Prettt good documentary by Errol Morris about the town of Vernon, whose residents include a man who thinks his pet turtle is really a gopher, a turkey-hunting expert and an elderly couple in possession of a jar of sand they're convinced is growing.

The Best Years of Our Lives

Excellent, classic drama. It does a wonderful job of intimately involving us in the lives of three veterans returning from WWII to the same small city. The characters all seem so alive, so vivid, so well done, they help make the movie a constantly engaging and emotional experience. The extremely high quality cast certainly helps to make the characters so good. Highest praises and recommendations.

Fantastic Four (2005)

Awful, awful film. The CGI was terrible, the plot was so slow and pointless, and you didn't care about the characters one bit. Predictable, too. See The Wool Cap instead.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (finally)
Such a wonderful, wonderful movie. I was listening to Virgin UK earlier and they played "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).. good stuff.

I'm currently watching a part of I, Robot and will be watching Constantine on Wednesday.. but the last movie I sat down and watched from end to end was probably Toy Story 2 this past weekend.. yet again! :D
Youth of the Beast

Pretty good Japanese gangster flick.
Damn, I saw the same thing.

Just got back from Las Vegas last night, and today was my last day off before hitting the grind again (ugh I hate my job ever so much - now I can start looking for something new too) so I decided to see what was playing to enjoy my last day.

Ended up going to see 'Sky High' as really the only other option was 'Stealth' from the director of such favorites as The Fast and the Furious and XXX... Need I say more?

I went into the movie with a mixed mind, I didn't know what to expect and thought it was just going to be full of lame teenage-esque jokes and what not, but I came out pleasantly surprised.

The movie was a family movie by Disney, so don't expect any cussing, nudity, or blood and guts... What you can expect is a somewhat compelling story, some cute girls (and one guy I know my ex would have been wet over), a love triangle, and some nice graphics.

Really not greatness, but something you can take your kids to and not be bored out of your mind watching. I'd give it a 7/10

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

Easily one of the best westerns I've ever seen. Actually, it may be the best western I've ever seen.

Yes it's very, very good.

Yes you should see it. Now.

I got this movie from another "source".
Cursed - 1/5

Crap but I rented it expecting crap so all is fair.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=16277 One of my favorite trashing reviews.

Steamboy. For all youse guys who don't like spoilers:
I didn't have the highest expectations for Steamboy, going in. It only averaged 6.9 on imdb.com and quite a few critics dismissed it as sub-par. I'm glad to report that it exceeded my expectations greatly. It's a fun anime romp, plain and simple. Plenty of great action setpieces abound, and a serviceable plot. The setting, the 1800's steam era, serves the movie very well, and adds a nice atmosphere that you don't get from conventional anime.

From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money - 7/10. No where near as good as the first, but it is still far and above most vampire movies. Some good dialogue here and there and Robert Patrick is great. The overall movie though seems a little bland though. Bruce Campbell's little mini movie at the beginning is hilarious and only makes this B movie that much better. Bruce is the man!

The Island - 6/10 Eh... I didn't like this movie as much as I thought I would. Too much glitz and glamour and not enough substance with plot through out the film. One such plot hole is if in this future of the movie, if we can create motorcycles that can fly, then why aren't all the cars flying, and why are we still relying on helicopters? Nonetheless, Johanson (sp) and McGregor (sp) pull of some stunning performances. The actions sequences were quite nice once the movie picked up, but the overall plot was relatively easy to pick up on and see in what direction they were going. Did I mention that Johanson (sp) is great and super uber ultra hot, which just gives this movie a bonus point ;) A lot of the questions that the movie asks have been done in the past, and IMO far better. Overall, the Island to me felt to be too long with one too many explosion and the lack of a solid plot really hurt it to me. Then again, this is Michael Bay so I guess I should have seen it coming.
I'm watching Heat now. Dane Cook got me all inspired.
I love Heat. It totally rocks. one of my favorite Heist films ever.

Knockaround Guys - 3.5/5

Crazy plot but it worked. Nothing special about it but it was full of black comedy. It was a fun watch nothing more, nothing less.
