It's a Wonderful Last Movie You Saw

The Blue Angel

The poor audio had enough of an effect on the film to prevent me from giving it my highest praises, but still a very good film. Not exactly uplifting, but quite excellent ending.

Hmmm, it says I posted, yet my post does not appear in the thread. Ok, try again then.

German or English? I saw the German one off of TCM a while back, when I was really into Marlene :)drool:) and thought it was pretty good. Not amazing, but good.

zomfg im on topic nows: Hiroshima, Mon Amour

Watch Visitor Q. Lot more messed up, but nowhere near as good sadly.

I just watched Ichi a couple days ago for the first time. Yeah, it's pretty fucking messed up.

Steamboy.

With the exception of that little annoying whore, Scarlett (you would think at least one gear could fly out of the wall and maul her: why not, Otomo, why not?!?!?), I greatly enjoyed the movie.

Yes, watch Visitor Q. It frequents my dvd player for the amusement of my friends. That film has everything- Incest, narcotics, premature ejaculation, sodomy, rape, middle-aged nipples squirting milk, murder, necrophilia, feces, domestic violence, and happiness.

Gotta love it! :)

Platoon

Fantastic, I think it can easily stand as one of the great war films of all time. The great performances and moral struggles mix with anarchic combat and the realistic lives of the everyday grunts. It doesn't touch the awesome heights of Apocalypse Now, but then again, it's not meant to. This isn't an epic, poetic war film. This is much more a real life, through the eyes of the meat film with a strong moral struggle and a view of the horror that is war. In that sense it kind of reminds me of the book The Things They Carried. If you haven't yet, definitely see it.

Unfortunately, the libs only had the English version. I checked and the German version is on DVD, so I'll probably have to check that out sometime.

Platoon is awesome. I feel the same with Full Metal Jacket and The Boys in Company C (both with R Lee Ermey). Classic Vietnam flicks.

Saw Charlie and the Choclate Factory last weekend with my mom and my sister. It would've been a decent movie, if it didn't have to live up to Willy Wonka. The Oompa Loompa's just didn't have the same feel as they did in WW. Overall, the movie was a 6.5/10 for me.

Now to go off in another extreme and watch The Machinist and King's Ransom. I will give my thoughts on these 2 movies at some point tomorrow.

Don't forget confused gender issues.

Mean Creek- Good movie. Had the guy from Eurotrip and the fat kid from Drake and Josh, and the kid from Jurassic Park 3.

Grass - Documentry narrated by Woody Harrelson about Marijuana and the misconceptions about it put out by the government in the mid 1900's.
When I saw it they called it Haute Tension.
Even when I knew the ending (I guessed correctly it had a twist ending a la Machinist) I still thought this was a pretty well made film.

Wages of Fear

Wow, fantastic movie. I liked the opening hour, introducing the characters and their desperate situation while seamlessly switching between French, English and Spanish. The rest of the movie, as the characters get their trucks on the road (and switch to French), is absolutely amazing, containing some of the most intensely suspenseful sequences I've ever seen. Highest of marks and recommendations.

Do you happent o know if the other two movies are any better? Because that was a real low point for Miike.

I have no clue. The first one was the only one I saw.

If you didn't like DOA, you won't like the others.

Speaking of fucked up movies, I just saw a movie called "Gozu" a few days ago. Weird shit...
Dead or Alive

That is probably the BIGGEST "WHAT THE fuck?!" endings EVER
I'm not sure I'm remember them correctly, but 3 might be even weirder.

Stealth. Much better than I expected, though I expected utter garbage.

Survive Style 5+

Good. fuckin' Good. It's almost like 'what if the movies Snatch and 4 Rooms had a baby?' scenario. One of my all time favorite movies. Plus, not to sound like I'm typecasting but casting Vinnie Jones as a British hitman in an otherwise all Japanese cast was genious. He really does personify the role. My favorite scene involves a family of four drivinng on the highway at night singing a la Wayne's World to a song that ends with 'fuck fuck fuck fuck Yeah!' Absolutely hilarious. 2 thumbs up!

I've had that for like 2 months and have yet to watch it. Perhaps I shall tomorrow.

I'll have to borrow that from my friend, the only question is when I can get it from him as he's leaving the country on Monday ... :whistle2:k

Well, you have about 1 day to catch up to him so as soon as it's dawn, call his ass up!

Actually he's here now, playing Onimusha 3. But I don't really want to drive all the way over to his place and back tomorrow as it's about 40 minutes each way. Also I already have almost 50 of his DVDs here waiting to be watched, including the 9 I grabbed today.

The Jerk

I just had to pick up the 26th Anniversary dvd. It had been way too long since I last saw it. Still one of the funniest movies I've seen :D

I need to pick that one up.

Halloween

Liked it better than the first time I saw it, it's quite good, but I just don't see it as the classic it's supposed to be. Then again, I'd say the same thing for some of the other so-called classic horror movies I've seen, and at least this one isn't crap like those. It's got some great effects going for it (Michael's breathing, the opening sequence from 6 year old Michael's perspective), but it just doesn't consistently hold tension for me.
